IPhoto 9.5.1 export no options

why doesn't my iPhoto 9.5.1 not give me options when exporting a slideshow?

iPhoto does give you options when exporting a slideshow from the slideshow mode.  The are not as extensive as they were:
Also, if you are creating slideshows directly in albums and export via the File ➙ Export ➙ Slideshow menu option you get the same options:

  • IPhoto '11 can't export

Recently I've been having a couple problems using iPhoto '11, version 9.1.3 (607).
I am routinely taking photos (JPG) and putting them into iPhoto. I'm right-clicking in iPhoto and knocking out backgrounds in Photoshop CS3 (my default external editor). I'm then copying that file, now a .psd file, back into iPhoto. Here's where the problem starts. Now I want to edit the psd file so I right-click on the file and click on "edit in external editor". It switches over to Photoshop and get an error that reads "Could not complete your request because an unknown or invalid JPEG marker type is found".
I'm also having a problem exporting some files with iPhoto giving an error that it can't create the file on the volume. I've tried various volumes but it will always give the error. When I take the picture out that it errors-out on, and export again, iPhoto will continue to export until it hits another photo. As far as I can tell there is nothing different about the files that throw up the error.
I'd really like to revert back to my older version of iPhoto. iPhoto '11 has some nice features but it seems a bit buggy.
    Thanks, Dan

I have a workaround for the JPEG marker type problem when one is editing TIFF files. The principle should work for other types stored in iPhoto as well. The underlying problem is that iPhoto is renaming your TIFF (or whatever) image as a JPEG - that is, if your image is called "foo.tif" it's making a copy of it called "foo.jpg" but the contents are still in TIFF format. Thus Photoshop gets confused when opening it - it believes it to be a jpeg image but can't read it as such.
My solution is to write a short applescript that invokes Photoshop on the image but tells Photoshop that the image is in fact a tiff image. Then you tell iPhoto that this script is your photo editor (instead of Photoshop).
Here's the script for CS5. (There are reports that CS5 handles the file argument differently from other programs or versions, so if you get a problem there you'd have to adjust the script accordingly). Paste it into the Applescript Editor, save it out as a an application (don't check any of the options in the save dialog), and then go to iPhoto preferences to choose this instead of Photoshop as your image editor. A better script would figure out more thoroughly what kind of file this was and tell Photoshop to open it as such.
    on run
set thefile to choose file with prompt "Choose a file to edit as tiff..."
      openInPs(thefile)
    end run
    on open filelist
              repeat with thefile in filelist
      openInPs(thefile)
              end repeat
    end open
    on openInPs(thefile)
              tell application "Finder"
set thename to thefile as string -- save away the name in a form CS5 understands
set inname to quoted form of (POSIX path of thefile) -- and in a form that Unix shell understands
set mycommand to "file " & inname & "| grep -q TIFF" -- shell: grep for the word TIFF in the description of this file
                        try
do shell script mycommand -- run the shell script.
tell application "Adobe Photoshop CS5" -- if the word TIFF was found, open as TIFF
      open alias thename as TIFF
                                  end tell
on error -- if the word TIFF was not found, we end up here
tell application "Adobe Photoshop CS5" -- and just try opening the file with no "as" option
      open alias thename
                                  end tell
                        end try
              end tell
    end openInPs

  • Iphoto 08 won't export modified version

    Hi!
I'm having some real trouble here. I modify my photos in iPhoto, but when I export the pics, it exports the ORIGINAL version, not the modified version.
I've even gone into the iPhoto library package and found the 'Modified' folder for my photos, and they're the SAME as well! I have NO idea what is going on here. The only copy of the actually modified photos that I can find is the thumbnails in the 'Data' folder inside the iPhoto library package.
    Any ideas??
    Thanks so much!

    paxrasmussen:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Are you able to get the modified version if you just drag from the thumbnail to the desktop? Or is it not working that way as well as the File->Export method?
Try rebiulding the library as follow: launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the option to rebuild just the database.
    Happy New Year
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Snow Leopard, iPhoto, Mail - loss of image size option when mailing photos

I just installed Snow Leopard on both my laptop and my desktop. Now I have lost one of the size options when I email images directly from iPhoto. This is a big problem for me, as I have the need to send photos out to colleagues for their review several times per week. Before the new OS, I could choose (from within iPhoto or from within Mail) from these options: small, medium, large, and full-size. "Large" was the choice that almost always worked best for me. Now an image is medium-sized no matter whether you choose medium or large. Small and full-size still work.
If I add images to a mail using the photo browser in Mail (which is less convenient for me anyway), then I lose the titles and descriptions I have added to those images in iPhoto. Not good.
Is there a setting I can change, or is this a bug, or what?
    Help.
    Marion

    Ernie,
It's not the the image size buttons are not available. They are. It's that they don't work correctly. From within iPhoto: choosing "small" gives me a small image; choosing "medium" gives me a medium image; choosing "large" also gives me a medium image; choosing "full" gives me a full-size image. So, there are four buttons, but only three sizes. I need large, and it's the one that's not working.
I am currently experimenting with your export-attach suggestion, and the results are very messy indeed as well as inconsistent. If I export an image as .jpeg and as full-size, and then attach them to a mail, the first problem is that I lose all the titles and descriptions, even though I have chosen to export them. In the past, all the images lined up neatly in the body of the message with titles underneath each one; now the images are all "stuck together" and you must mouse over to get the title info. Thus you can see this info for only one image at a time - inconvenient for my colleagues.
The second problem is that, the size option buttons work for some images and not for others. I tried attaching three files of different sizes: 2.7MB, 5.2MB, and 6.2MB. All four size buttons work for the two larger files, but, once again "medium" and "large" choices both result in the same size image, "medium."
Even if the export-attach option worked correctly, it would involve many more steps and much more time than my former method of sending direct from iPhoto.
I have not upgraded to iLife9. Perhaps the problem has been corrected in it. I was holding out for iLife10, but might go ahead with 9 if I could be assured it would work. This is really a huge problem for me.
    Thanks,
    Marion

  • IPhoto questions - resizing and exporting

Hi there - I have a couple of questions surrounding iPhoto and resizing images.
    1) I want to use my original file - as I first imported it. Most of my images when imported were 2-3MB files. When I export them out of iPhoto, I have a number of options in regards to quality and size. When I exported best quality and maximum size, the file became twice the size of the original (around 5MB). How do I just use the original as it was imported?
    2) When I right click on an image saved onto my desktop and look at 'get info' it tells me what I believe is the actual size of my image - usually around 2.4MB. However, when I open it in Preview and go to tools/adjust size it gives me a 'resulting size' which is much less than what I see when I open the 'get info' option (around 1.5MB). Does anyone know anything about why this is?
    3) I understand the 'myth' surrounding dpi but is there any reason WHY everything is opening at 72dpi when other programs have opened my images at 300dpi?
Many thanks in advance for your help
    Sarah

have you tried exporting with no option? the final size depends on lot of things (and no matter how big it is it will not be better than the original

Actual size would be large - think TIFF size - all JPEG sized re compresses - more compression means slightly less quality and smaller size
    3) I understand the 'myth' surrounding dpi but is there any reason WHY everything is opening at 72dpi when other programs have opened my images at 300 dpi?
Because DPI has not meaning until there are inches associated with the image - it is a meaningless number

  • IPhoto '08 won't export pics

iPhoto '08 won't export any files. I've tried jpegs and tiffs and iPhoto 08 just hangs during export - I've had to "force quit" it - any ideas? I've tried exporting just one pic and let it run for close to 5 minutes before giving up.

Try rebuilding the database. Hold down the apple and option (or alt) keys and launch iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
If that doesn't work try trash the com.apple.iphoto.plist file from the home / library / preferences folder.

  • Export excel option is not working in test environment in Firefox.

In our application 'export excel' option is present in 4 different pages. All the excels working in development environment in both IE and FF. In testing env, all the excels working fine in
IE. But only two excels are working in FF in testing env. Remaining not working and 'The connection was reset The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading' error page appears when we click on 'export excel' button. Can any one help on this issue...

    Hello,
You can do one of the following:
Select the table in Firefox and then copy it to the clipboard. In Excel do Paste Special and select either 'Unicode text' or 'text' to copy it into Excel.
Use the Table2Clipboard extension. This will provide the Right-Click menu option, it will copy the data into the clipboard and you can then paste the selection into Excel.
    I hope that helps.

    Hi,
I need some information from your side.
Which reports are you using?( Crystal Report, Webi or Deski) with exact version of it.
If the reports are running properly from the designer and you are having issue with application or in coding then you can post this question to BO Java SDK Application (Java Development) forum for better assistance.

  • IPhoto 5 refuses to export

I've been having this problem for a few days now. When I try to export pictures from iPhoto I get the "Exporting..." message, but the progress indicator doesn't move and it reads "Unable to create [the directory I'm exporting it to]". I get a zero kb file with the name of the first picture in that folder, and nothing else.
    Console log reads the following:
    2006-02-13 11:48:39.001 iPhoto[395] * -[NSTextField setAllowsMultipleSelection:]: selector not recognized [self = 0x7a6ae10]

I've tried permissions repair, but I can't think of anything else to fix this (not to mention what caused it...) Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have nearly the same problem. When I try to export a slideshow I get an error message saying the file cannot be saved. Posted a question earlier and got no response.

    Thanks Guys,
I am still a bit lost though...
It may be simply a matter of me finding Oracle 8i so I can do what I need to do.
Where can I get Orcale 8i from? Does anybody have it? The oracle site only has a version back to 9.2 I queried with a employee from Oracle University here in Australia, and he suggested asking in the forums.
Just so you know what I'm trying to do:
    Data Server:
Running Aix with Oracle 7.14... actually could be 7.41 - I'll check today.
This system will not be upgraded to any later version of Orcale, because systems are in place, and core systems at our other sites have to be the same. (my project is a local one)
    Web Server:
Running XP profession with IIS and using ASP (active server pages)
Currently running Oracle 10g, and ASP code connects to the local database on this machine via an ODBC connection.
At the moment, I have scripts on the Aix server that dumps data from Oracle 7.x into a .csv file.
Then, I have scripts that copy those csv files to the XP server, and they are imported to the local Oracle 10g database.
To display this data on the website, I use ASP via the odbc connection to query the local database on the XP server.
As said in my previous post, there must be an easier way to do this.
I need a local database on the XP server too, and am thinking the best way is to downgrade to 8i.
Can anybody tell me where I can get 8i to try this out? I have been trying to reasearch this for a while now without luck. Any help would be appreciated, and thanks for those who have replied so far.

  • Access to Export formatting options that may not be readily available?

How can I access Export formatting options that existed in CR XI using CR VS2010?
I am converting an app from CR XI to CR VS2010 and am attempting to generate DiskFile exports.  The general process is succesful, but there certain formatting options I cannot find in the API:
    NumberOfLinesPerPage(n);
    UserDefinedCharactersPerInch(n);
    CharFieldDelimiter(c)
    UseReportDateFormat(b)
    UseReportNumberFormat(b)
I have found some mention that some or all of these are still available via the RAS interface.  Given my efforts in updating my database connections on the fly, I am now somewhat versed in RAS access, but am struggling with how to use it to format my exports.  Can I set the above options somehow, and if so are there any examples of how to do this?

Yes, the RDC.  In fact, I was reading a doc entitiled Migrating from RDC to .NET which had this:
    ExportOptions.UseReportDateFormat
    RDC
Set the date format to be the same as report.
    Report.ExportOptions.UseReportDateFormat = True
    .NET
Not supported in the .NET assemblies, but supported in the ReportClientDocument object model provided with the Report Application Server (RAS). RAS is available with Crystal Reports Server and BusinessObjects Enterprise.
    ExportOptions.UseReportNumberFormat
    RDC
Set the number format to be the same as report
    Report.ExportOptions.UseReportNumberFormat = True
    .NET
Not supported in the .NET assemblies, but supported in the ReportClientDocument object model provided with the Report Application Server (RAS). RAS is available with Crystal Reports Server and BusinessObjects Enterprise. 1/3/2006 4:51:00 PM Copyright © 2006 Business Objects. All rights reserved. Page 44
    crxi_r2_migrating_from_rdc_to_net.pdf
I admit I missed the Text Format properties. Thank you.  I'm just not a heavy with this.  In the RDC, when I set UseReportNumberFormat and UseReportDataFormat then that would apply regardless of my output file type.  With this, it seems only to apply to CSV.
