IPhoto 9.5.1 stalls as soon as slideshow is selected

I'm running iPhoto 9.5.1 on a newer iMac running OS 10.9.5 with the 2.7 Ghz processor and 8GB of RAM. My 1 TB HD has about 800 GB  of free space.
I'm trying to create a slideshow and every time I select slideshow I get the pinwheel because iPhoto stops responding. I have a fairly large photo library with just over 10,000 photos so I took the 119 photos I wanted to use and copied them to my desktop. I then created a new iPhoto library and imported them. Same problem with just 119 photos in the entire library. For lack of anything else to try I ran disk utility to fix permissions. Unfortunately no change occurred. Any suggestions would be welcomed.

So no iPhoto Library is working at all?
then either you are having a problem with your user account (broken preferences files, permissions in your home folder) or there is as system wide problem with iPhoto. To test, if the problem is system wide or only occurs in your user account sign into the guest account (you may need to enable it in the System Preferences > Accounts panel).  Can you run a slideshow, when working from the Guest account?
If iPhoto works from the Guest account, trash the iPhoto Preferences file.
Quit iPhoto, if it is open.
Remove your User preferences: Open your user library in your Home folder and delete the following files:
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iPhoto.plist
Delete the complete folder ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto
Then restart the system and try again to launch iPhoto.
Your user library is hidden by default. To open the hidden User Library:
Use the Finder's "Go" menu.
Click "Go", then hold down the options key, until you are seeing "Library" in the drop down menu appear and click it.
In the Finder window that will open navigate to the folders Preferences and Containers and remove the files.
Then restart the Mac.
If iPhoto does not work from the Guest account either, reinstall iPhoto.
If that does not help, launch the Console.app from Applications > Utilities, and check, if there are any error messages in the Console Window, that might give us a clue.

I get this pop up when trying to create a photo book through the iPhoto store.
"Some or all of the photos you selected were downloaded from your published albums. You can only view these photos. To use them in an album or a slideshow or project, you must import them to your photo library."
The photos I have selected have already been imported so how and why do I do it all over again?
What do they mean by published albums?  I categorize them into photo albums for organizational purposes after I import them from my camera or phone. So why can't I put them into a book now?
I have over 400 photos selected for a photo book for my child's graduation gift so how can I tell which photos I have to do this to?
Please help. Any insight wouyld be appreciated.
    Confused and frustrated...

Give this a try:  apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.

  • How do I get iPhoto on new iPad to load all Facebook albums to select where to upload?

How do I get iPhoto on new iPad to load all Facebook albums to select where to upload?
Besides 'new album' , 'wall photos', or 'iPhoto Uploads' ... it only shows 24 pre-existing albums to choose. I need to see the other 50, 60, etc albums I have.
I've also noticed that iPhoto fails to load to certain albums with some 'Domin Exception' error of some kind (not sure the exact message).

You need to make the new Mac iTunes library your syncing library. iTunes on the Mac sees your iPad as a new device because you have never synced with this computer before. You can make the Mac your syncing computer by following the instructions in this user tip. You will be able to transfer the purchased music on the iPad into iTunes when you follow this procedure.

  • Iphoto won't display photos or run a slideshow. Thumbnails all OK etc. Tried rebuilding library and reset Mac Air but no result.  Ideas please!!!!

Iphoto won't display photos or run a slideshow - just a black screen. Can't see photos to edit etc. Thumbnails all OK and all else seems visible in the usual way etc. Tried rebuilding library and reset Mac Air but no result.  Ideas please!!!!

and was told to go home and rebuild the photo library (there are 2257 photos). Did this but problem is still there.
When you rebuild the library did you rebuild the database?  Also did you repair the library's permissions? Is this the First Aid window that you got?
Those are the two options to use.
Here's another fix you can try:
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.>Click on the Add Library button,
2 -  select the library you want to add from those in the selection window.
3 - make sure that in the rebuild window the checkbox  "Scavange orphaned photos" is checked.
4 - now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
5 - in the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed. Click on the Create button.
Note 1: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.
Note 2:  Your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.
You'll have to recreate your slideshow after using this method.

  • IPhoto won't let me edit subtitles in slideshows

I have the latest version of iPhoto, I'm using Lion and everything is updated.
This happens often, not everytime, but iPhoto won't let me edit subtitles in slideshows. When I select the text and begin to type it just gives that annoying "you can't do that but I won't tell you why BEEP" that Apple have devised to irritate the **** out of people.
On this occasion I was using the Sliding Panels theme.
I have closed down iPhoto and restarted several times, but whatever I try it won't let me edit the text. I have read on other forums that this is not an uncommon bug, but not found a solution yet.
Anybody any idea how to fix this, please?
    Thanks!
    Bruce

As nobody has replied to my post yet I thought I would try something myself, and I seem to have found a work-around.
As I said, I only get this problem now and again - about one slideshow in six - so I changed the theme to one I know works, edited the subtitles as I want them to be, then changed back to the theme I had originally, and everything works perfectly!
You still can't re-edit these subtitles in this theme. You still get the annoying beep if you try.
Incidentaly Apple rather churlishly censored my comment, and replaced it with four asterisks, making it look as if I was using some dreadful expletive. I merely used the commonly used word for The Price of Darkness' home that starts with a letter "h".
Hope this post helps someone with the same problem.

  • Iphoto freezes when trying to open a particular slideshow

When using Iphoto the program freezes to a spinning beach ball when selecting or trying to open a particular slideshow, other slideshows work OK. How do I delete the slideshow?

back up and rebuild your iPhoto library - launch iPhoto while depressing the option (alt) and command (apple) keys and use the first three options
Just tried rebuilding the thumbnails like you suggested and still no luck.
If you used the first three options you rebuilt the entire library - not just the thumbnails - did you select all three or did you select only rebuild thumbnails?
You need to rebuild the library - not just the thumbnails

  • IPhoto (v.9.1.1) freezing soon after launch

    What gives?
Something weird is going on with iPhoto today.
I sent myself some image files (.jpg - some logo pics for my iPod Touch).
Mail tried to save them to iPhoto - but iPhoto would just freeze.
I saved the files to a folder on my hard drive. Tried to copy the images to iPhoto.
As soon as I launch iPhoto, the spinning beach ball begins and the app freezes.
The only way out is to do a Force Quit. I just can't use iPhoto.
    What's going on?
OS 10.6.7 on 2.8 Quad Core iMac, 16GB RAM, 2TB HDD - so there's enough hardware to handle this simple task.
Looks like iPhoto has an issue.
Anyone else having the same problem?

First, launch iPhoto with the Option held down and create a new library.  If that is successful then your current library is damaged. In that case make a temporary, duplicate copy of the library and try the three fixes below in order as needed:
      Fix #1
delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
delete iPhoto's cache files that are located in your Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding the the Option key.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
    Fix #2
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library.
    Select options #1, #2 and #6.
    Fix #3
Rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

iPhoto 11 (9.1.5) started freezing. The appln opens, all seems OK. When I select photos or categories: events, last import etc. I reinstalled with no change.

backup your iPhoto library and depress the option and command keys and launch iPhoto - repair the library - if that does not fix it do it again and rebuild

  • Bug in iPhoto 6?  Blank images in edit and slideshows

    Hi...
Have read a few threads on this topic, and it seems to be widespread. The usual helpful comments are made, but I really don't think that this has anything to do with something that the users are doing (e.g. copying libraries, moving libraries, etc..). Also, it seems to be happening to a number of people in exactly the same way, since iPhoto 6 was launched.
I have been using iPhoto since the beginning, have about 40,000 files in several libraries, and I have never seen anything like this.
The problem is that out of several hundred images in an individual library (uncopied, and not edited at the finder level or anywhere but iPhoto), a few of them are blank when you view them in edit mode or in a slideshow. This seems to be some sort of internal iPhoto corruption, and not related to the photos themselves (same camera and computer hardware that I have been using for years).
Also, the images themselves seem to be OK. When you export them from iPhoto to the desktop and open them in Preview or Photoshop, they are fine, and when you reimport them into iPhoto, they seem OK too.
Obviously, this is a big problem, and even though I can workaround for a single photo, I can't be doing this on an ongoing basis for all of my shots..
Anyone have any ideas? Is there a way to submit this question to Apple directly?
    Thanks very much!!
    Mike

I foolishly tried this on a separate Mac on a different library, that one with 22000 images that I had not edited (since the old iPhoto would just die a slow death on that sized library).
I actually only spent the money for iPhoto 6 (iLife's remainder package did not have any compelling use for me right now) and its ability to handle 25000 images.
Well, it is faster (i.e. it does not go to sleep for 12 minutes) if I click the scroll button but the blank images problem showed up there also. And ALL of those pictures were standard jpgs and not one was from a weird camera or ever modified or otherwise tweaked if that were an excuse for iPhoto 6 misbehaving with some pictures.
VERY annoying and very strange that they would not see this in Beta testing. Assuming they do test. So, folks, if you are planning to buy iLife for iPhoto, be forewarned. I will add this to my TO BUY OR NOT TO BUY blog entries at http://imran.com/media/blog/ so people are aware.
    regards
    Imran

  • IPhoto will not open iTunes to make a slideshow.

Trying to put together a simple slideshow.  Under settings, I wanted to choose a song from iTunes.  When I select iTunes from the dropdown it says "open iTunes to see your music" or something to that effect.  iTunes IS open and everything is in its place as far as I can tell.  Any suggestions?

Can you access the iTunes Library from another app - iMovie for instance? If not then the issue is with iTunes and you'll get best help on the iTunes forum. If you can then post back here as the issue will be with iPhoto.

  • Iphoto 11 9.4.2 won't export slideshow

This is what I get when I try to export a slideshow.
    I have a Mac Book Pro 13 running 10.8.2
I have exported several slide shows before with my old white Mac Book.
I tried exporting slideshows with only 2 pictures, and still no luck.
Any ideas? thank you for your help in advance.

    Hello,
OT, so I tried to log in with a different account, and when I tried to import pictures to iphoto, I kept getting an error about a problem with the Flip4Mac plugin. I removed the Flip4Mac plugin and now I can export slideshows again. Kind of weird but it works, so now when I need Flip4Mac I just install it and uninstall it as needed.
Thanks for your patience and all the ideas OT, and Jose Luis, if you have Flip4Mac this might solve your problem, or it might be some other external plugin! Good Luck and thanks!

  • I want to upload a photo from iPhoto to Facebook, but when I it asks me to select a file it puts the entire iPhoto album in place. How do I get around this without transferring photo to desktop and then Facebook?

How do I upload photo to Facebook from iphoto without first transferring photo to desktop?

Can you describe the way you're trying to do it at the moment?

  • Using iPhoto 9.6/Yosemite can not  export a slideshow, either to my desktop or to iTunes.

Using Yosemite and iPhoto 9.6 I can not get it to export a slideshow. I have tried to export to a file, and to ITunes. It looks like it is working but the file transfer graph appears then goes away immediately as if something is blocking the action. I'm wondering if anyone else has run into this problem, or if there is something I am doing wrong.

Several folks have fixed this with a reinstall.
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
    2. Download it from the App Store to reinstall It's on your Purchases List* there.
*Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4928
One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

  • Iphoto Library moved to Time cpsule but wont let me select. Help?

I have found that my HD is almost full and I have over 14k photos in my library. I copied the library to my TC wireless ( took overnight) and now Iphoto will not allow me to select from new location on my TC.Any ideas how to wirelessly do this or is it futile with a wireless TC, and I need to be wired to it?
Kind of thought the wireless part was the sell on being able to store things with multiple computers being able to grab data from it in the house.
    Thanks
    LPM

Ya, I would like to edit and organize as well however if i do not need them, i can just leave them in my TC. The problem is that when I open i photo and hold the (Alt button) i go to select the file in my TC and it is grayed out. it wont let me?
I have no problem starting a new library on my HD or even on my other wired External drive ( Almost full though)
Just a ton of pics and videos.
