IPhoto 9.5 won't recognize USB card reader.

I loaded Mavericks this week with iPhoto 9.5. But now iPhoto will not read a card reader and gives me a message that the card reader was ejected improperly. When I force quit iPhoto and reopen, it won't open the card reader so I can import pictures. I have tried several times to get it to read the card reader. Any ideas?
Nevermind, I found someone else's reply about Image Capture. That worked!

iPhoto 9.5 immediately tries to "upgrade" my library using the upgrader.
iPhoto 9.5 asks you to run the upgrader to prepare the library for 9.5. It then will update the library to its format.
You need to do the following:
1 - go to your Applications/Utilities folder and double click on the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1 application.
2 - select Choose Library, navigate to your iPhoto library, select it and let the upgrader do its thing.
3 - launch iPhoto 9.5 to open and finish the conversion of the library.

  • N8 won't recognise USB card reader

Hi, i was wondering if anyone knew which card readers the N8 recognises and which one's it wont. It doesn't recognise mine unfortunately. It's an Integral Mobile Card Reader.
    Thanks

This is a tricky subject. The main problem seems to be that most card readers use about 500 mA, while the N8 (and I gather most mobile devices) can only handle USB devices up to 200 mA.
After some searching and experimenting I found an SD(HC) card reader that works:
    http://www.mcbub.com/item/SD-MMC-RS-MMC-USB-Card-Reader-Writer-126439/
(I received a black transparent one)
I found it by searching for "200 mA card reader", so if you need another card format this might help you.
Note that for me 4 out of 5 of my cards worked: A Kingston 16GB SDHC class 10 (SD10G2 designation) failed, but four other SDHC cards worked perfectly: 4 GB Emtec class 4, 4 GB Sandisk Extreme III (class 6), 16 GB Emtec class 6 and 32 GB Dane-Elec ProLine200X (class 10)
Another warning: A reader that looks the same as one you've seen or heard that works does not have to have the same internals! So don't order by looks alone, check the power specs (although they are rarely mentioned).

  • MacBook Pro now does not recognize USB card reader

My computer recently stopped recognizing my usb card reader. The usb port works fine with my iphone and ipod. The card reader works when plugged into a windows based machine. The problem is not related to OS 10.6 because I had the issue prior to upgrade. I must of updated something software related that is causing the problem. Anyone have any ideas?

My computer recently stopped recognizing my usb card reader.
We'll need to know exactly what you mean by this. Plug in the reader, without a card in it. Go to Apple Menu > About this Mac > More Info and click on USB in the left column of System Profiler. Do you see *Mass Storage Device* listed under one of the USB port entries in the right part of the window? If so, the reader is recognized. If not, it really isn't. In that case, reset the SMC in your MBP:

Then test again and post back with results.

  • I have Mac mini Mid 2010.  It will no longer open photo memory card in SD reader.  It also won't recognize a card reader device when connected to USB.  It never had this problem before.  Any thoughts?

I have Mac mini Mid 2010.  It will no longer open photo memory card in SD reader slot.  Plus, I've tried using a card reading device in USB slot, and it won't open that either.  Any thoughts?

    Do other USB things work?
Do they show up in Disk Utility at all?

  • IPhoto won't recognize SD card placed directly into my iMac's SD slot.

iPhoto won't recognize SD card placed directly into my iMac's SD slot. Image Capture shows the name of the SD card but does not show any photos. If I use the Finder I can see all of the photos on the sd card so I know they are there. I've previously imported lots of photos from teh SD slot directly into iPhoto. Tried a second SD card with the same issue.
Any ideas? Thanks for the help
    Using iPhoto 8.1.2
    Mac OS 10.6.8

Make a temporary, backup copy of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
any tips on how to recover those lost photos?
If you don't recover the photos with the above you'll need to run a recovery app like MediaRECOVER to recover the photos from the memory card.

  • Suddenly won't recognize memory card

Hi all. I have a MacBook OS X 10.5.8, have had it for a couple of years, and have always imported photos from my camera's memory card (Sony) to iPhoto via a USB card reader. Haven't ever had a problem with it, usually when I plug it in, iPhoto opens right up and everything's good.
Today, out of the blue, when I put the card in the card reader and plug it into the USB port, the computer doesn't seem to recognize that it's there at all. iPhoto doesn't open and nothing seems to indicate that the computer knows anything is plugged in to the USB - doesn't appear on the desktop or in Finder anywhere. The lights on the card reader light up when I plug in the card and when I plug in the USB to the computer, so it seems like the reader is working fine and recognizes a connection with the computer, but not vice versa. I have no idea why this is happening; I just used the exact same card less than a week ago and it worked fine. Since then I've downloaded one update from Apple (something about security), but I can't think of anything else that could be different.
Any ideas? I have some vacation pictures on there that I really would love to access! Thanks!

  • A665-s5184x won't recognize SD card

I bought a used Satellite a665-s5184x with a dead hard drive. I replaced the drive and ordered the restore DVDs from Toshiba. It's up and running, but it won't recognize a 2GB SD card plugged into the computer's SD card slot. It WILL recognize the card if I use an external USB card reader.
I've downloaded and installed the SD card driver from the Toshiba web site and restarted the computer but it made no difference.
    Any suggestions?

Everything should have been working after using the recovery media. If the SD drive never worked after that, it sounds like it may be hardware failure that happened at the same time.

Repair permissions and restart your computer.  Also, check System Preferences/Printe & Fax.  Make sure your printer is listed.

  • IMAC won't boot with USB card reader attached

My quite new 24" iMAC won't boot if I have a USB card reader attached:
I get to the white screen with the apple logo, but it gets stuck there and the little spinning gear below the apple logo never appears (I've waited several minutes). (In all my test cases, there is no card in the card reader.)
I've tried two different card readers with the same results ("iDOTconnect" brand and a brand new Apacer unit, both are USB2.0 multi-format card readers).
The 1st one I tried via a USB hub, the second one I tried via a new hub and also directly connected to the mac (both of those hubs work fine).
    Anyone have any ideas?

    Hello strathglass
The same thing can also happen with other connected devices such as external HD's and iPods, the Startup Manager is lost and searching for a boot volume.
    1. You may be able to fix it by going to: *System Preference / Startup Disk* and select the *Mac OS X 10.5.5 on Macintosh HD* then *Click the lock to prevent further changes.*
    2. Leave those devices that cause boot issues disconnected until the iMac is up and running!
    3. Only sleep the iMac, and be sure to disconnect those devices be for shutting down or updates that require a restart!
As a habit, I have always ejected and disconnected all mounted USB devices (flash driver, iPods, cameras, card reader, etc.) from my hub be for sleeping, restarting or shutting down...

  • HT5172 My new Macbook Pro doesn't recognize my card reader (with a CF card inserted).

My new Macbook Pro doesn't recognize my USB card reader with a CF card inserted.  It works fine on my old Macbook Pro.
Do I need a new card reader?  USB 3 perhaps?
I would appreciate any input that you may have.  Thank you.

Hi, closereaching. Instead of spending 12 hours reinstalling your operating system and getting everything back up to date again, which probably won't accomplish anything, why not buy a $10 USB card reader for your Casio's SD card? Or (more expensive, but a much more elegant solution), an ExpressCard SD card reader that can stay in your computer all the time?

  • Mobilemate usb card reader adapter worked well in Macbk pro. suddenly stopped showing up as a device in finder-it is listed as a device in utilities- how do I get it to show up again?

Can anyone tell me how to get my mobilemate sandisk usb card reader adapter to show up in the finder as a device? Card is good and the adapter was working fine until my boyfriend tried to get it to work in a photo frame. When I plugged it back into my mac bk pro it is not recognized in the finder.
It does show up in the utilities as a usb device.
Does not show up as it had before in Image Capture or Iphoto.
LIke I said it was working in this computer no problem. light is on as if it is reading. card is not locked.
    thanks!

I reformated the disk with an applecare rep this morning. it did not correct the problem.
the card works fine when I insert it directly.
Just trying to find out why the adapter no longer shows up in the finder when it did previously- yesterday.
This is a usb device. Device shows up in system profiler.

  • Installed Snow Leopard 10.6.3, now usb card reader (CF, SD etc.) is not rec

For some reason my MacBook doesn't recognize my usb card reader at all now. I have never had this happen before. It doesn't matter if my camera's cf card is in the reader or out or if it's plugged into my usb hub or directly into the MacBook. I just installed Snow Leopard so I think that's causing it, however, I don't know what to do to fix it....

Shutdown and restart, Zapping the Pram. Then, try the card again.

  • Won't mount CF card reader or accept CD in optical drive

I can not longer mount a USB card reader. The reader power light goes on but it won't mount in any USB port. This began happening at the same my optical drive no longer accepts disks. Insert a disk, and it makes some reading noises, then ejects the disk.

I haven't been able to read a CF card for weeks now on either my iMac or MBA - both computers say the cards are unreadable. This is with both my old CF/SD reader and a brand new one. Both computers read SD cards ok and until recently both read CFs without a hitch.
    What give here?

  • USB Card Reader no longer works after Lion update.

My USB card reader/writers no loger work since I "upgraded" to Lion 10.7.4. All was well with Snow Leopard, but with no built-in SD card reader I must rely on USB readers. Anyone know how to fix this issue? Are there updates avaiable or coming soon to resolve this issue?

Hi MissMedia 83 and welcome to the forums!!
This has been a trend that a lot of AppleCare advisors have been seeing as call drivers. Essentially, many of the USB internet modems that are used widely require a 32bit kernel to operate. In Snow Leopard, although the system was in 64bit by defauly, people had the option of booting the computer into a 32bit mode to use the USB modems successfully.
With Lion, however, no such options exists. If your USB modem device is only compatible with a 32bit machine, then your only options are to either downgrade to Snow Leopard or find a different provider that supports 64bit.
Sorry to be the bearer of crappy news. My suggestion is to use something like a pocket wifi or personal hotspot, where you have a wifi network that is being created by a small device that connects to the cell network. Much much easier and your computer thinks it's just a regular wifi network.
This is what I think the issue is anyway. Could be wrong.
    Any other suggestions?
