IPhoto 9.6 - previous library lost during transition to this version. OS X Yosemite

While rebuilding database from previous version of iPhoto 9.6 the size of my library reduced from 160 gb to 16 gb as it displayed message error in writing to disc. Any idea on how to recover my photos

That is why you need hour backups like Time Machine does - and yo must always backup prior to an upgrade or update
If your library is missing photos then you must restore a backup to get them back - it is possible that file recovery software like file salvage can find some or all of them

  • The shared library is not compatible with this version of itunes

I have a G3 running Jaguar (and iTunes 6) that hosts my MP3 collection. Until recently, this worked great as a shared library, happily showing up in iTunes on other machines on my network, including my Powerbook.
Then I got iTunes 8 on my MacBook Pro.
Now, when I try to access it from my MBP with Leopard, I get the message "the shared library Nick's Music is not compatible with this version of itunes".
Can I somehow run an older version of iTunes as well as v 8.0 on Leopard?
Is there another program that can access that library and run on Leopard?
    Any other solutions?

I solved it myself...What I did was to backup the old library, run iTunes 6 to create a new library, move that new library, edit iTunes 6 preferences to use the library in it's new location, then restore the iTunes 8 library to it's original position.

  • IPhoto Primary library lost during LION Upgrade

Previously running Snow Leopard and had, for some insane reason, two different iPhoto libraries.  Upgraded to LION today and only one of the iPhoto libraries is able to be found, and wouldn't you know, its the wrong one.
When upgrading to my new macbook Pro a year ago, from a powerbook g4, I transfered over my iPhoto data and was prompted for some reason to create a second iPhoto library.  Now, as I've upgraded said macbook pro to Lion, I've lost the main library.  Just hours ago, when I would open iPhoto in Snow Leopard, I had no issues at all?  Any ideas as to where my old library is?  Any way to downgrade now?  And no, TM had not been used in 8 months for B/U.  When Apple figures out how to easily select files/apps/folders to back up with TM, I'll use it.

Restore from the back up you made with one of the hundreds of other back up utilities that are not Time Machine.

  • [svn:fx-trunk] 13317: Fix to allow Animate to automatically handle changes in styles during transitions .

Fix to allow Animate to automatically handle changes in styles during transitions. This same logic already works for properties (e.g., if you specify different values for x in states and run Animate with a SimpleMotionPath with property="x" then it will automatically determine the from/to values to animate for x). But we needed to add an override for getRelevantStyles() for Animate to advertise the possible styles to pick up changes for so that the transitions array would be populated accordingly.

  • My iphoto on my imac somehow updated on its own and now its saying "The photo library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto." have i lost my photos?

I tried to open my iphoto last night on my iMAC and it somehow updated on it's own and now has a message saying  "The photo library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto. Your photo library will not be readable by previous versions of iPhoto after the upgrade. The upgrade process for very large libraries may take an hour or more to complete." I only have the option to quit or upgrade. What does this mean? Have i lost my pictures? i don't properly have my back up hard drive set up so all my pictures aren't backed up.

"The photo library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto. Your photo library will not be readable by previous versions of iPhoto after the upgrade. The upgrade process for very large libraries may take an hour or more to complete."
After your iPhoto application got updated to a new version, iPhoto will convert the iPhoto library to a new format, that is used by the new version. The warning tells you, that after this upgrade older iPhoto versions will no longer be able to read the iPhoto library. If you have a second Mac with older software that might be important. Make a backup to be on the safe side and let iPhoto upgrade the library.

  • I have lost previously downloaded music during back-up.

I am trying to find music that I have lost during previous back-ups with older versions of iTunes, I had backed up my library to my external hard drive. I know where they are and am unable to get my music back. I have tried opening them. I have tried dragging and dropping them into my iTunes. I have tried double clicking, but have had no results. Any suggestions? Is my music lost forever?
I tried updateing my current iTunes to the latest version and it is running into install errors also. So...that was a bust as well. :'(

You buy one and only one download.  It is your responsibility to move/copy/backup your music.
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer files/docs/pics/music/etc.  Use this to put everything back.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup copy (not good), then you can transfer itunes purchases from an ipod: File>Transfer Purchases

  • I try to open I photo and  I get the message, your iPhoto library is damaged...please restore from backup. But i din't made backup copy. How can i delete previous library and work wrom the new one?

I try to open I photo and  I get the message, your iPhoto library is damaged...please restore from backup. But i din't made backup copy. How can i delete previous library and work wrom the new one?

Try this (assuming you're using iPhoto 12): make a temporary, duplicate copy of the library and try the three fixes below in order as needed:
      Fix #1
delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
delete iPhoto's cache files that are located in your Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding the the Option key.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
    Fix #2
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library.
    Select options #1, #2 and #6.
    Fix #3
Rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • How do i keep the original manual sort of my photos that i had in previous library after a rebuild in iphoto library manager?

how do i keep the original manual sort of my photos that i had in previous library after a rebuild in iphoto library manager? and keep the events in the same order with blank events also

    Not sure you can.
Library Manager creates an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.

  • I used to have a large music library on I Tunes but I somehow overwrote it with the few purchased items that were on my I-pod so I have lost everything apart from these few.  Can I retrieve a previous library even if I've somehow lost it?

I used to have a large music library on I Tunes but I somehow overwrote it with the few purchased items that were on my I-pod so I have lost everything apart from these few.  Can I retrieve a previous library even if I've somehow lost it?  Any ideas?  I've tried the Apple Support but they just showed me how to retrieve previous purchases and don't seem to have any solutions to my problem.

  • HT4710 When copy my IPhoto 7.1.5 Library on my desk computer and open it on my laptop w/IPhoto'09, many albums/slideshows are lost because of compulsory "upgrade." Help!

When copy my IPhoto 7.1.5 Library from my IMac and open it on my MacBookPro, which has IPhoto'09, many albums/slideshows are lost because IPhoto '09 insists that I click on 'upgrade' before it will open the 7.1.5 Library.   Help!

The library is damaged in some way.
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • IPhoto has duplicated my library during transfer!

I've recently bought a MacBook Pro and transferred files and applications across from my previous iMac without any hassle. However, when it comes to my iPhoto library, my original 6,580 photos have been duplicated 5 times... the iPhoto library now contains 35,819 pictures!
I dragged and dropped the iPhoto library on the iMac onto an external hard drive, and then dragged and dropped it into iPhoto in the MacBook when I loaded it up, and this is the result.
Does anyone have a solution, other than going through 35,819 photos individually and deleting each duplicate?
    Thanks in hope and advance...
    Joe

I dragged and dropped the iPhoto library on the iMac onto an external hard drive, and then dragged and dropped it into iPhoto in the MacBook when I loaded it up, and this is the result.
When you dropped the Library "into" iPhoto you imported that library to another one.
Never import one Library to another. Every version and thumbnail is imported like a distinct photo, you lose all your Albums, Keywords etc., the link between Original and Previews is destroyed, the non-destructive editing feature is ruined and so on. In summary: it's mess.
The trick is to simply copy the Library to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine. Then open it.

  • When I upgraded computers, I lost about 700 songs in iTunes.  I am sure they are in a "previous library".  Is there a way to retrieve these into my current iTunes?

I upgraded to a new PC and in the process about 700 of my 8,000 iTunes songs disappeared.  They were songs ripped from my CD collection, not purchased songs.  Would they be located in a "previous iTunes library" from prior to the upgrade, and if so, is there a way for me to retrieve them from the "previous library"?

The Previous iTunes Libraries folder holds copies of the iTunes database file, an index of the media and playlists that make up your library. You need to retrieve the entire iTunes folder from your old computer, or alternatively see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device assuming you have such.
If, in fact, the missing media has been transfered to your new computer, but iTunes has lost touch with it, then see Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash.

  • When I Open Iphoto it tells me that it can not open current photo library using this version of iphoto.  Any help on what I can do to fix this without loosing all my previous photos?

For some reason I tried to open Iphoto and it keeps giving me an error message that It can not open my current photo library.
It says "You can't open your current photo library using this version of Iphoto.
You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of Iphoto. Do you want to quit and use the latest version of Iphoto, or do you want
to create a new photo library?"
I tried updating the software and didn't do nothing for me.
Anyone have a solution to this problem, I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thanks.

Ok, here is what I would do for that situation. I would back up all your photos on a memory stick, then create a new photo library and re-upload all the photos to the new library. If iphoto wont let you even copy your photos, you should just schedule an appointment at the genius bar. This has never happened to me, but if it did this is what I would be attempting.

  • I have a link to a previous library? Completely lost in this question...

    Hi there,
I am incredibly new to this i-pod, (it's the new version video etc etc), as it was a gift, and I am trying to figure this out. My brother has a ton of songs he downloaded to this i-pod since my PC is much slower and has less memory than his. I assume he "linked" it to his i-pod as evertime I try to download songs from my i-tunes library it asks me if I want to exhange libraries, or something like that. I don't want to lose the current songs on it, as they're allot, but I definetly want the i-tunes songs I bought to be eligible for download/transfer...Also I tried getting podcassts from my new library and it won't go on it...Anyone have any input ehre that could let me keep the previous library and download my new songs and podcasts? Thanks allot!~

Put your video clip on Video 1 track. Put SAME clip above itself on Video 2 track. Select Video 2 clip, and go to EFFECTS CONTROLS panel and open MOTION. Scale to 50% or what looks good to you. This creates the PIP or "Picture in Picture". Then select (click on) the V1 video, and go to EFFECTS tab and find the Gaussian Blur effect (type in search window). Apply to V1. Adjust "Blurriness" to taste. Only thing missing at this point is the white outline for the PIP. I don't believe there is an "effect" for this, I could be wrong. But you should be able to use the shape tools in Titler to fake it pretty easily. For instance, just make a solid white box slightly larger than the PIP image. Move V2 clip up to V3 and put title on V2, sandwiched between the two video clips. As the box is larger than the scaled video, white edges would show behind PIP clip.
    Hope this  helps you

  • I have lost control. This version does not remember id's and passwords for any sight, makes me re login for every site every time I return to a site even during the same session. With the previous version I did NOT have this problem.

I loved the previous version and this version for me is a downgrade. I am not able to correctly set the option, and I cannot even get the feedback function to operate correctly.

There is a difference between remembering the name and password in the Password Manager and a "remember me" check box on a web page.
The latter usually involves the creation of a special "remember me" cookie that is stored on your computer and that is send to the server.
If that "remember me" cookie is removed or gets corrupted or is not send to the server then the server won't remember you and you need to sign in once again.
