Iphoto--Adding Pictures to album

I have tried to add additional photos from the library to an existing album. But the images will not transfer. What am I doing wrong?

Casey,
Is it a Smart Album (purple icon with a gear)? You can't drag to a smart album; the photos must meet the conditions defined by the album.
If a photo is already in the album it will bounce back when you try to add it again.
If not, what happens when you drag the photos to the album?

In iphoto, I drag photos to an album and it bounces back.  Album won't take it, like its full.  I've been doing it all night and all of a sudden I cant add anymore. Any help

Album won't take it, like its full.  I've been doing it all night and all of a sudden I cant add anymore.
Can you drag photos to albums, if you open a different iPhoto library? Try to create a new library, import a few photos, create an album. Can you add photos to this album?
If yes, try, if repairing your iPhoto library will help. Hold down the keys ⎇⌘, while launching iPhoto and keep holding them down, until you are seeing the First Aid panel:
Try all First Aid options in turn.  Before rebuilding, make sure you have a working backup.

  • Adding pictures to albums in Ovi Share

I have over one hundred pictures that I would like to add to an album in Ovi Share. Is there a way to select more than one picture at a time to add to an album? Going one by one is impractical as you need to select then confirm etc. It would be absolutely ridiculous if there wasn't a way to select more than one at a time.
Can someone tell me how this is done?
    Thanks

I would also like to know how to do this.. just uploaded 20+ pictures, and spent way too much time clicking each to add to album..

  • I am using iPhoto 2009.  If I empty the trash bin, will it delete those pictures from albums I have created?  I noticed some of the pictures appear to be the same in both the trash and album.

I have a lot of photos in my trash bin and was thinking about emptying the trash.  However, I got a message that said that if emptied, I would not be able to recover them.  I chickened out.  I looked at several pictures in the trash and noticed that they were the same pictures in albums that I had created.  I compared the numbers shown on those pictures in the trash and found that they were the same as the numbers shown in on the pictures in the albums that I had created.  I would like to delete the pictures to create more space, but I don't want to lose pictures that I can't replace.

yes - albums are not copies or places - they are pointers in the databae pointing to the photo in the library - you can see it in an album, under photos or under events - but it is all the same photo - if you delete it it is gone everyplace - and no additiponal space is used for an album (or many albums - a photo can be in many albums without using any additional space
Only put photos that you do not want to keep in the trash
How much free space do you have on the disk volume that the iPhoto library is on?

I have been working on a wedding slideshow for days and have over 3,000 pictures in albums on iPhoto.  It suddenly will not open without upgrading to Aperture and I can't find any of my photos!!!!  I need these photos, to complete the video, not to mention I don't want to lose them. I have had trouble ever since upgrading  to Maverick.

    Try the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window.
    2 - Run Option #4, Rebuild Database.

  • I just downloaded iPhoto 9.5 to replace my old ver. 7.x.  Downloaded the library upgraded but have no idea where it installed as it is not listed in Applications.  Opened iPhoto added my Library (12.5 GB) but iPhoto shows no pictures.

I just downloaded iPhoto 9.5 to replace my old ver. 7.x.  Downloaded the library upgraded but have no idea where it installed as it is not listed in Applications.  Opened iPhoto added my Library (12.5 GB) but iPhoto shows no pictures. In fact, iPhoto indicates that I have zero photos in the library while at the same time indicating the file size as 12.5 GB.

If your old iPhoto version was iPhoto 7, you need to run the iPhoto Library upgrader:  http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1523
It will install itself in the Utilities folder in your Applications folder.
Run it, and after that, you should be able to open your iPhoto Library with iPhoto '11.

  • I tried moving an album from iPhoto to Pictures.  It took the entire iPhoto Library.  Now I can't use it, and I cannot open it.  How do I get it back to just iPhoto?

I tried moving an album from iPhoto to Pictures, but the entire iPhoto Library moved.
I now cannot open iPhoto.  How can I get it back?

A folder named Library popped up in Pictures.  I didn't want the entire Library, just the one album.
When I open the Library Folder in Pictures, I get sub folders dated with years.
When I open the subfolders, I just keep getting more folders.
This looks like you were viewing your iPhoto Library; the contents of the Masters folder. Is your original iPhoto library still there?
Where do you keep your iPhoto library? In the default location in your "Pictures" folder?

  • IPhoto 5 deleted my albums!

I started iPhoto 5 for the first time today. Previously, I had all my pictures organized under a folder called "Albums," under the usual "pictures" folder. iPhoto 5 asked me if I wanted to transfer the albums to iPhoto 5, and I said yes. However, only some of the albums were transferred. Other albums that I had created and placed in my albums folder without using iPhoto disappeared completely. Not only do they not show up in iPhoto, but they are also no longer on my hard drive. The entire folder is gone. What more, my organization is completely gone; I had all my folders organized by date and subject, and instead of bringing the pictures in the way I had them organized (ie, if I had a folder called "Christmas 1999," bringing that in as an album called "Christmas 1999"), it brought the pictures in by when they were added into the computer. So now I am VERY VERY irritated at having lost not only my organization, but hundreds of pictures! What the heck is wrong with iPhoto 5?

    Hi Liane,
    You never used iPhoto before?
The Albums folder you made yourself in the finder?
When did iPhoto ask you to transfer the Albums? I have never heard of that before.
If you had an earlier version of iPhoto and upgrade to version 5, when you open it for the first time it will ask to upgrade your library. Is that what you meant?
The albums you placed yourself in the Albums folder will not import when the library is upgraded. You have to import them into iPhoto yourself.
since am still not sure what you are talking about and instead you mean you imported your whole Albums folder with albums you did yourself and not with iPhoto read the following:
Importing Images from the hard drive, CD, or DVD
To import a folder with subfolders of images maintaining the same organizational structure (or close to it):
Drag the folder into iPhotos viewing area.
A film roll will be created with each sub folders name. To view the rolls in the Library you need to first go to the menu bar and choose View>by film rolls.
To make each roll into an Album, highlight the tile of the roll
Go to File>new album from selection.
You will now have an Album in the source column with the images from that roll. Do this for each roll if you want them to be an Album. This is your choice.
Next, go to the menu bar and hit File>new folder
Name this new folder with the year or whatever the name was of the Parent folder containing the subfolders that you had dragged into iPhotos viewing area.
Next drag all the Albums into the respective new Parent folder you just made.
Albums- collection of images from one roll or many rolls. The Albums will be listed in your source column when you make them. The albums only contain placeholders for the images that are still in the library. They are not duplicates.
Rolls- rolls are created when you import folder of images. It will be given the name of the folder you are importing.
Rolls are also created from each import from your camera. You are given the option to name the roll at import.
Folder-a folder you create manually using the File>new folder command
Folders can hold Albums, slideshows, books, another folder, etc.
One other way you can import a folder of images and have an Album created for it as the same time it is imported as a roll in the Library view:
Drag each folder of images into the source column of iPhoto. When you see the plus sign, drop it in the source column.
An album will be created in the source column, and the roll that the album was created from will be in the library view window.
Further more, the organization of the iPhoto Library in the Finder is different than how it is within iPhoto where you do your own organization creating albums, folders, etc.
This is a view of how the iPhoto Library looks in the Finder.
It is organized by Year folders. Inside the Year folders are Month folders. Inside the Month folders are the days of the Month. Inside the day folders are the photos you took on that day. If you imported video clips and RAW files on that day they will be in an Originals folder. If you have edited any photo imported on that day, the original will be in that folder also.
If you can clarify more if you were using iPhoto before, if the albums folder you were taking about was in the Finder in the iPhoto Library folder or in the Pictures folder, etc.
If the album folder you were taking about was in the iPhoto Library folder, then that folder just had aliases to the images that were in the albums in iPhoto 4 and that album folder is no longer used by iPhoto and is usually deleted on an upgrade or rebuild of the iPhoto Library.
    Hope this helps!
    Lori

  • I've lost ALL my iPhoto library pictures

I've tried to recover them using the "Hold down option and command while opening iPhoto" routine but it is still empty.
    I Backup daily.
I had closed down my computer by holding down the Start button when using iPhoto and iWeb as I had got stuck with the "spinning wheel of death". This was after getting the "upgrade thumbnails " message.

EBay used to be able to grab pictures from the iPhoto folder but the upload window Browse button can't see the files.
And this may be the cause of the database corruption. In simple terms, you should access your pictures via the iPhoto Window - end of story.
    Here's how iPhoto works.
In reads a file in the iPhoto Library Folder called the library6.iphoto file. That files tracks things like picture titles, albums, smart albums etc., pretty much everything except the actual photos. The photos are in the Original (and Modified) Folders, the thumbnails in the Data folder.
The library6.iphoto file tracks the relationship between the thumbnail and the file it represents.
So you begin to see how important this file is.
If it gets damaged you see the sort of problems that you are having. What damages the file? If there's a crash while it's been written to, or some HD corruption, or even changes made in the iPhoto Library Folder via other means than iPhoto.
    So, to solutions:
    1. Try and preserve the library - your albums etc. Hence, my suggestion that you copy the db file (library6.iphoto) into the iPhoto Library Folder to replace the one that's damaged. Net result, everything back to normal.
However, as you had begun adding files to the damaged library, that was no longer possible, Think of it this way. Suppose you have a Petrol car, and you inadvertantly put diesel into the tank. What's the solution? Clean out the tank? Or just put more Petrol into it on top of the diesel?
In this situation, I suggest that your iPhoto Library Folder is now useless. It has a damaged db file and duplicated images and is, in short, a mess.
So, my next suggestion is that - because you back up daily - to restore your entire iPhoto Library Folder from the back up. What does that achieve? It brings things back to the point before all this happens.
However, I don't use Back Up. So I can't give you instructions on how to restore with it. So I sent you to the Back Up forum.
Many people back up as a sort of virtuous activity. I've backed up, so my data is safe. However, backing up is a two part process: Creating the back up and then restoring the data in the event that you need to replace lost or damaged data. As things stand, you run your application every day, but are you sure it's actually backing anything up? If your photos are important to you, then I truly suggest that you investigate this element of backing up.
I still think you need to replace that iPhoto Library Folder.

  • How do i view all photos on ipad that haven't been added to an album yet?

I have over a thousand pictures on my iPad. I want to sort them into albums. But I am running into difficulties.
    (1) After adding a bunch of images to various albums, I am sure I missed a few. Is there a way to just see ONLY those pictures that have NOT yet been added to any album? Can this be done in Photos app, or do I have to buy iPhoto or something else?
    (2) Is there any app that can overlay on top of each image thumbnail a set of icons where each overlaid icon represents one of the albums that the photo is currently in?
    Thanks.

No... the whole point of my question is that I want to organize my photos on my iPad prior to putting them on my computer. I have a lot of "dead time" on the bus/train/plane where using iPad for this would be ideal. I find it shocking that it lacks this basic capability in the built-in software.
Surely there must be an app which can access the images I've already imported to iPad using the Camera Connection Kit, and allow me to sort them out into folders or albums. Photos app already does most of what I'd like it to do, but it does not let you filter images by which albums they don't belong to. I.e. you can't see which images aren't sorted into at least one album yet. Photos app also lacks metadata viewing/filtering/tagging/rating. Heck even my PS3 can show metadata...!
I am constantly mystified at Apple's lack of what I would consider pretty basic features. There are some ideas, like the classic Mac GUI file/folder desktop analogy, that to me are timeless. I have yet to see the benefit or advantage to iOS's crippling lack of the ability to work with files in a logical or direct way. I do understand how letting the app itself organize its own documents into directories itself helps it keep track of files for the purposes of using CoreData to create more informative views and organizational structures. However in Unix there are abundant ways to have this cake and eat it too -- you can do what TimeMachine does, which is to create hard links to files, so any given file can simultaneously exist in multiple different folders without necessitating duplicated data. Why can't Photos app therefore let me organize my files into folders the way I want to, in a standard, Mac-like way, without disrupting its own DB, simply by usig hard links or symbolic links, or something like this? Why not have file system layer that refers to each file by a UUID instead of by a directory path?
I am so tired of the gimped file system of iOS. First they said it was for security on iPhone. But then when iPad came out and it was the same way, then the excuse changes to, "People just like it better this way, and so should you." Wait, so 1984-2007 didn't happen...? You can't suddenly act like the Macintosh desktop analogy is suddenly an irrelevant bad idea. Just because people suffer through the lameness that is iTunes File Sharing, doesn't mean they universally would like it better if they could just access their files right in the Finder instead of through a kludge-funnel.

  • New photos in iPhoto 9.5.1 albums no longer sync into synced albums on OS8 devices.

    iPhoto 9.5.1
    iOS 8.0.2
    Mac Mavericks 10.9.5
Using iTunes, when I sync my selected iPhoto albums (on the Mac) to my iPhone and iPad, new photos added to those albums on my Mac are no longer added to the albums on those devices, but rather are orphaned as loose photos. Or, if they ARE added, it's only through half a dozen trial-and-error tricks I've tried. I never know for sure what trick is working, so I have to ask if there's an easier, dependable way to get albums or folders from my Mac to sync into what's on my devices. I don't want every single photo I have on my Mac on those devices. JUST selected, categorized photo albums so that I can show off categories of my paintings and sculptures to clients.
If iPhoto is being phased out, what's the easier option for creating albums in my "photos" app on my devices and moving those photos from my Mac to the albums?

Use the rebuild function in iPhoto Library Manager. That does not require a purchase. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Lost iPhoto and pictures

Tonight opened iPhoto and was prompted to select a library. I chose the library I thought was the correct one (I only have two choices iPhoto or Pictures) and now when iPhoto opens I have all the thumbnails but when I click to open them all I get is a black screen with an "!" mark.
I have tried all the usual procedures such as opening with "Option & Cmd" buttons held and rebuilt
all #1,2, & 6, or only "option" held to choose new library all to no avail.
Furthermore, when I went back to my Pictures folder all I have is a folder which went clicked on opens iPhoto. If I right-click on this folder then I can see all my other contents. I have tried to select-all in the this folder to drag onto the Pictures folder but all I get is a pop-up saying it can't be opened because "Pictures" may be damaged or incomplete
Using a cmd line from a previous problem I was able to get my "Pictures" folder back to what it should be (after several goes during which it kept reverting back).
Can anyone offer some advice on how I can open up my photos please?

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Please help needed os x lion I wish to transfer photos from the iPhoto library to a album or folder then delete them from the Library but when I do this it also deletes them from the album ? how do I do this please.

Albums are not places to store photos, they're more like "labels" you can apply to photos to better organize them. A single image file can be in multiple albums... they are not copies, it's simply been labelled as being in all those albums. So what you're trying to do doesn't make sense, because it's based on incorrect assumptions.
The iPhoto library will always show all photos that you have added to iPhoto.
