IPhoto adds ugly black border around imported screen grabs

When I grab a picture of an application screen (using cmd + shift + 4 and then hitting the space bar over the application), I get a screen grab that opens fine in Preview, but when I drag/import it to iPhoto, it adds an ugly thick black border around the whole picture. Why? Is there any way to stop this from happening?

Old Toad wrote:
Missed the Command....... I have used that command and don't get the border except when viewing the file as an thumbnail in the Finder.
Do you have a MMe account? If so upload the screenshot file to the Pictures folder and use the following code to add it to a post:
You'll get this: Click to View Photo. It's a screenshot of the screenshot and it's presentation in Safari.
So, I can see immediately from the photo in the link above that you have not used the key combi I am talking about - was that intentional?
Anyway, here's the link, and you can quite clearly see the drop shadow.

  • Black border around screen

Hello, I'm not entirely sure when this started but I have an annoying 1/4" black border around my screen. I think it has to do with scaling, but can't find an option within the integrated Intel HD Graphics to change built-in monitor.  This notebook has Intel HD graphics 4400, and is running the most current Intel Graphics HD and WIndows 8.1. Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks!

  • How can I print with black border around edge of image?

I'd like to add a black border around the edge of certain images I'm printing. I know it's fairly trivial in Lightroom, but I can't see where this option is in Aperture. Is this lacking in Aperture, or am I just missing it? Many thanks.
PS -- I'm aware there are some plug-ins that claim to do this, so if Aperture can't do this, please feel free to chime in with comments on the best plug-in for this task.

    Aperture BorderFX 1.1
Thanks, Rich. That's a good plug-in, and does cover what I need (with lots of other features, too). The problem, though, is it requires an export of the image, which I then have to either print from another application, or reimport to Aperture to print. I was hoping to find something that will either just apply the border to the print job, or that would serve as more of an Edit With . . . type of plug-in than an Export plug-in, so I can keep everything in one place. Thanks again.

  • Black "border" around project

I just started using Captivate 4 (upgraded from 3).  I am building a new project from scratch.  It is 800x600.  My problem is the black border or line that goes around my project - see below.  I am using a customized skin that does not include this black rectangular border.  I don't know how to get rid of it.  I have changed skins but it doesn't make a difference.  It seems to be more prominent on the right side for some reason too in that there seems to be more of a gap.  The blue border I put around the project is 800x600 so I don't understand why this is showing at all.  It is much more noticeable when I publish as a swf an run it in our LMS.  Can someone help me?  Thanks!

    Thanks for responding.
It turns out it was an unhappy coincidence.  When you preview, Captivate adds this black border around the skin you have already chosen.  Although it does not do that when you preview in a web page.
But then I am placing the Captivate swf file in another product called Datango.  This also put a black border around the Captivate file.  This was the real culprit, but at first it looked it came from Captivate.
    Sorry!

  • Silver border around my screen, instead of black.

I chose to add "MacBook Pro 15-inch Hi-Res Antiglare Widescreen Display [Add $ 150.00]" to my MacBookPro, but has also gained a silver border around my screen now, instead of the black. Why?

    paller wrote:
Still, I do not understand why Apple chose to use grey instead of just the other one.... They should just have made this grey one black aswell looks way cool'er..
    Easy,
The anti-glare film is applied directly to the LCD panel at the LCD panel factory and in order for the anti-glare film to exhibit it's properties, it needs to be exposed directly to the light rays bouncing off of everything so it can diffuse them at the surface layer and give you a nice clear picture to view.
If you think about it, a glossy pane of acrylic/glass over the anti-glare LCD panel would render the anti-reflective properties ineffective.
So a bezel is needed to hold the anti-glare LCD panel in place in the frame, so Apple decided to use the same strong aluminum that the casing is made out of, likely from a spare cut off of the machining process along the line, which makes it less expensive than producing a whole new bezel from another material, perhaps at another factory.
Apple could have colored the aluminum bezel black, however that would have obscured the "MacBook Pro" logo at the bottom, and then that would have had to be changed. So it's a snowball effect of too many steps to get the two bezels to look similar, which was very likely hard to do.
But dude.. u just made my day! i'm happy i chose the antiglare now (as i'm working as a graphic designer) ^^, well i've been since I first got the mbp, but lso thought alot about the border around the screen aswell...
As a designer myself in my early days, we had CRT displays and they were all glossy and even slightly rounded, which reflected even more than the flat panel glossy displays of today.
So as a youngster I was wondering why my eyes hurt everyday at work, I was having headaches and so forth, but didn't know (nearly no one did) what the cause was and just accepted it as a occupational hazard.
Then one day we all got these silly looking anti-glare screens hanging in front of our CRT's, they didn't look pretty but it sure did help us be more productive because we could observe the screen for the long hours required to keep production on schedule.
but lso thought alot about the border around the screen aswell...
That's the artist in you wanting to look as cool and trendy as possible, however there is a practical side of things, your computer is a tool first and a fashion statement second.
People who hire you are not going to judge you too much what tools you use, but by the quality of your results in a price and time frame they can accept.
Now if your really serious about changing the silver bezel for black, you can contact TechRestore here who specializes in turning glossy screens to anti-glare, which include a black bezel.

  • Export from FCE to iDVD, results in black border around movie

    Here is the problem....
I have edited a movie in FCE where all of the footage is 1440 x 1080
I export it using: File -> Export... QuickTime movie
I choose "self contained" movie and "audio/video", plus "chapter markers" in the pop up menu.
I then take this into iDVD amd all looks ok in the preview, but once burnt to DVD, there is a large black border around the entire movie.  It is almost like it is a smaller movie which does not fill the screen correctly.
Any idea why this happens and how to overcome this. When I lok at the exported movie from FCE- it is 720-x576 and not the full size- is this the problem?
    Thanks for any tips.

    Hi
    Is it widescreen ?
Did You in Your browser window set sequence and material to anamorphous. To me it was a revelation that the Browser window was exstendably to the right with lot's of columns - and one of them was Anamorphous.
Did you start a WideScreen project in iDVD - First window that opens after You clicked Start a New iDVD project (top button). At bottom this new window You set 4:3 (SD format) or 16:9 for WideScreen.
In iDVD You also need to go up to Project and down to Projectinfo
then set 16:9 here TOOO !
Proportion - Change it to 16:9
When I go from FinalCut to iDVD - I do
    FCE/P to iDVD
    Several things
    • How to go from FCE/P to iDVD
    • Free space on Start-up hard disk
    • Encoding
    • Brand and type of DVDs used
    • Burn speed set
    • iDVD BUG
    • Chapters
How to go from FCE/P to iDVD I do
    • Disable Screen and Energy saver
    • IMPORTANT --> FIRST in FinalCut - Mix Down Audio under Sequence Menu / Render Only / Mix-down
    • Export out as a QuickTime .mov file
    • Select with Mark - Chapter Mark
    • Not as Self-Contained (not important but saves time and space)
    • NO QUICKTIME CONVERSION (IMPORTANT)
This QT.mov file I import into iDVD from within iDVD.
Free space on Start-up hard disk
I set a minimum of 25GB (for Mac OS and iDVDs temp files)
    Encoding
    • I use Pro Quality encoding
Brand and type of DVDs used ( Important as cheap brands DO NOT WORK )
    • I use Verbatim
    • I use DVD-R
    Burn speed set (IMPORTANT)
    • I set down this to x4 (or x1)
    iDVD BUG
    • One can not go back to movie-project for any alterations and then go back to
the iDVD project. It will notice and ask You to either Up-date or Cancel. Neither
    of them will work.
Medicine - Start a brand new iDVD project.
    Use of Chapters
    • I only use a to z and 0 to 9 in naming them. NO other symbol/letter !
    • NO Chapter-mark at very beginning - iDVD NEEDS TO set this by it self
    • No Chapter marks in or within two seconds from a transition
(Way around this last one - Export movie as QT full quality and NO Chapter marks
Import this into a new Movie-project and now You are free to set C-Ms where You want
them except at very beginning - still)
    Material used to build movie
    • video - I use streamingDV (or convert all other to this e.g. .mp4, .avi, .wmv etc)
    • audio - I use .aiff 16-bit 48kHz or from Audio-CD (44.1kHz) - no .mp3 or direct from iTunes
    • photos - I use .jpg - no .bmp etc
Problems - then Trash iDVD pref. file and run Repair Permissions - and have a re-try.
    from post ??
May not be relevant, but I had the same problem with iDVD, where burned DVDs showed a green screen. It was cured by quitting Quicksilver and Quickeys as well as disabling sleep and screen-saving

Answers in CAPS.  But from playing with the file, it does not appear that I can get rid of the black border.   I would have to start again from scratch.    I tried a FV4 file format and a AVCHD.mp4 format and they both have black borders.   Any other suggestions on how to get rid of the border, or is it impossible at this point.

Open a new project and, in the new project dialog, click on change settings, followed bychanging the project preset toNTSCDSLR1080pDSLR [email protected]
I OPENED A NEW PROJECT AND THE STANDARD SET WAS NTSC-DV-STANDARD-48kHz WHICH IS MY PROBLEM AS YOU POINTED OUT.

  • Black Border Around Footage

    Hello,
I have a problem when I import footage into Final Cut. If it is from my camera in SD at 16:9 I get a black border around the footage. It looks like the footage is scaled down a bit but when I open it, it isn't. When I capture it, it looks normal and I can work with it in iMovie but as soon as it is in the timeline of FC it gets the rectangle around it.
Please help, I need to fix the footage +by tomorrow+.

Please be specific. What camera is this? What format are you shooting? What are the item proprieties for the clips? What are the item properties for the sequence? Do they match?

  • Remove Black Border Around Embedded Flash Video

    Hi-
I have searched on the Web without luck, so again I have to

straightforward, but doesn't appear so. I have a simple little
Flash video embedded in a plain old web page created with DW8. When

  • Black border around jpegs even tho frame size set right

    Hi
Can a friendly soul please tell me why my images are not the same width as my video footage.
The project is set to "standard" at 720 by 576.
When I set up the image prior to importing to CS3 i make sure they are the same 720 by 576.
Yet after theyve been imported i get a virtical black border around the left and right side. the pic is too narrow.
Experimenting with the sizes before import it seems 769 by 576 is about the right size.
But now the image (its a movie title) moves ever so slightly as i play the timeline. Its the first clip in the project.
Images are created in photoshop and then saved as Jpegs.
Video footage is DV PAL quality filmed on a Sony pd150 camcorder (this is a GREAT bit of kit btw)
    thanks in advance
