IPhoto album to event issue

Please could someone assist: I am using iPhoto 11 and have created an album from several events. I have edited many photos in the album but new want to replace the original photos in the event but can't seem to find a way to do this? Secondly, i get the spindle for 5 seconds every time i click on a different photo? Thanks for your kind support.

want to replace the original photos in the event
You don't have to.  If you look at the photo in the Event that tghe photo came from you'll find that it has been edited.
The photos in albums are only pointers to the original photo in the Event.  There's no file duplication in the process of adding a photo to an album.

  • Iphoto album sort order issue.

Stadard iphoto album (iphoto 11) being manually sorted suddendly reverted to what appears to be a random sort order.  The order now is not by date, camera, keyword, or any other.  It appears to have set its own manual order.  How can this happen? Is there a way to revert back to the previous sort order?  Even if I had mistakenly reset the manual sort, wouldn't it default back to one of the standard sort criteria?

  • Syncing iPhoto Albums (not Events) onto iPhone from iPhoto.

    Hi There,
I wonder if you can help me with something. I have started to put iPhoto Albums onto my iPhone. If I sync an Event, it all works fine and I end up with the camera roll and the new Event I just synced onto iPhone.
The problem I have is when I do this with an Album, rather than an Event. I tried this last night and for some really strange reason, when I sync only the new Photo Album to my iPhone, when the sync is finished and I look at the photos section on the iPhone, I end up with my camera roll (as it should), the new Album I have synced (as it should) but then I also get a mirrored Album which is named "Photo Album"
Any idea why it's duplicating the Album I am syncing and naming it Photo Album? It's useless to me having 2 of the same Albums on my iPhone, one being the one I synced and the other being a duplicaton with a different name.
Any ideas at all on this? It could just be a bug that needs fixing, as I said above, it doesn't happen when I sync an Event, only happens when I sync an Album I have created in iPhoto.
Thanks very much for reading this and I look forward to a reply.
    Thanks,
    Adam

    Hi,
    I'll try again: Sorry.
When I sync an Event, all seem fine and all i end up with is the Event on my iPhone. (this all seems 100 % correct to me)
When I sync an Album, I end up with another Album on my iphone called "Photo Album" that has the same photo's within it. (Now this I understand as it's the same as iphoto, you get a MASTER FOLDER and then you can create from that)
    What my question is:
Why when I sync an Event, I only get the Event and not the second new folder called "photo Album" showing me all the pics from the Event.
Should it not work like the below?:
If I had say 1 Album and 1 Event tranferred to my phone, surely I should be able to see a "photo Album" showing all the pics from BOTH THE ALBUM AND THE EVENT that I have trtansferred (LIKE A MASTER FOLDER)
I hope that makes sense now?

  • Iphoto emailing and "events" issue

I am not sure if these issues are related.  2 weeks ago I began having and issue where 3 of my events had no key image.  It also said there were 0 photos in the event.  If you clicked on the event, you could still see there were photos in there.  I did a little research and discovered that I may have caused this when I emptied iPhotos trash recently.  I didn't know this had to be done and there were several thousand photos in there.  Since then I have also updated to Yosemite.  I have now noticed that I cannot email photos from iPhoto anymore.  I can go through all the steps but after I hit send, the wait bar goes to the end and nothing happens.  I let it sit overnight once and it was still waiting.  I assume these issues are related to either me emptying the trash or updating to Yosemite.  Anyone have any ideas how fix this?  I am using OSX 10.10.2 and iPhoto 9.6.

Go into iPhoto's Accounts preference pane and delete the email account that's there.  Then add it back and try to email again.
A better solution, IMO, is to set Mail as iPhoto's email client in iPhoto's General preference pane.  That allows you better access to Contacts, a sent copy created automatically and also has templates in the stationary section similar to iPhoto's.  Mail is also more reliable.

  • IPhoto albums vs events

I am having trouble understanding what to use the events for. Lets say the family traveled the East Coast last year and went to around 4 different states. Do I make an album for the trip and events for each state or activity? How does it work? What should the events be used for. Also, how should I sync back to my phone? With events? Or do I use just albums or just events? What are the events supposed to capture? A day, week, month? And how should I use the events and albums feature to go together?
    Thanks for the help,
    Phillip

There is no "should". There's whatever system you devise that happens to work for you.
Events is a view of the Library, and every photo is in the Library, therefore every photo is in an Event. You just can't have a photo that's not in an Event.
Albums are arbritrary collections of Photos. You decide what goes in an Album. So, import 500 pics and you might want to keep them all, but only show the best 100 to your friends. That's a use for an Album. Albums are also handy in a few other ways. A photo can be in any number of Albums as use no extra space. This is because essentially, an album contains pointers to the photos in the Library. (To be in more than one Event means the file would need to duplicated and imported as a new file).
Here's a canned answer I use to illustrate the organisational abilities of iPhoto. It might spark something for you.
I use Events simply as big buckets of Photos: Spring 08, July - Nov 06 are typical Events in my Library. I use keywords and Smart Albums extensively. I title the pics broadly.
    I keyword on a
    Who
    What
Where basis (The When is in the photos's Exif metadata). I also rate the pics on a 1 - 5 star basis.
Using this system I can find pretty much find any pic in my 50k library in a couple of seconds.
So, for example, I have a batch of pics titled 'Seattle 08' and a  typical keywording might include: John, Anne, Landscape, mountain, trees, snow. With a rating included it's so very easy to find the best pics we took at Mount Rainier.
    File -> New Smart Album
    set it to 'All"
    title contains Seattle
    keyword is mountain
    keyword is snow
    rating is 5 stars
Or, want a chronological album of John from birth to today?
    New Smart Album
    Keyword is John
Set the View options to Sort By Date Ascending
    Want only the best pics?
add Rating is greater than 4 stars
The best thing about this system is that it's dynamic. If I add 50 more pics of John  to the Library tomorrow, as I keyword and rate them they are added to the Smart Album.
In the end, organisation is about finding the pics. The point is to make locating that pic or batch of pics findable fast. This system works for me.

  • Iphoto albums and events

i upload photos on the mac and this creates them as and event in iphoto. I then want  to organise manually so i create and album. Once they are organised if you delete the event this deletes it from the album!!! can you create and event from album with the new sorted pics?

Under the iCloud photo library beta (in settings > iCloud) it says that the following will happen if have it turned on
'automatically upload and store you entire library in iCloud to access photos and videos from all your devices...'
So why does it not do what it says it will do....?
iCloud Photo Library (Beta) is currently only available for your mobile devices with iOS 8. "store you entire library in iCloud " is referring to the "Photos" library on iPhone or iPad, not to the iPhoto Library on a Mac.  On your Mac you can only access this library from the iCloud web interface.
Or will they be in the cloud in the spring.
Early next year a Photos.app for MacOS Yosemite will be released. Photos on the Mac will be able to access iCloud Photo Library (no longer Beta), and Apple announced, that you will be able to migrate your iPhoto Library to "Photos".
To see your iCloud Photo Library (Beta) use the Photos.app on the iCloud webpage.

  • IPhoto albums and events and thousands of photos not showing on iOS devices

I have 10,000 photos in iPhoto, and several albums.
I have noticed that for the last few weeks on my iPhone 6 plus the only albums that show are
    Photos.... Years 2004, 2005 and 2014
    Shared (nothing)
Albums All Photos (only 163 photos) Videos and Deleted
There is no photo stream or anything else. All there is is listed above.
    Does anyone have any ideas?

  • Ihave many unwanted jpgs in my iphoto trash.  Many are duplicates of jpegs that I have in my active iphoto albums amnd events.  Can I send all of these jpegs, etc. in the iphoto trash without deleting the duplicates, etc, that i want to keep.  Thanks

I would appreciate an answer from someone who has encoiunted this particular problem, and/or who in knowledgable about it. Thansk

    Happy New Year to all!
I made a test and I confirm what I was suspected at first place.
I uploaded a photo taken from my iPhone to the shared photo stream. Then I imported this photo from the photo stream to my iPhoto library on my Mac. The resolution in which this photo is stored locally is 2048x1536 and its size 961 KB.
Then I sent the same photo from my iPhone via e-mail. I opened the email on my computer and downloaded the photo. Then I imported it to my Mac´s  iPhoto library. I checked the info out and the resolution is now 3264x2448 and size 2.2 MB.
Therefore the quality and resolution of the photos that are uploaded to the icloud photo stream is NOT the same as the original one.
I don´t know whether there is somewhre an option to change that, but this is what happens to me right now.

  • How do you import photos from the iPhoto library albums on the Mac to lightroom 5---i hit import but have no idea where to find iPhoto albums

how do you import photos from iPhoto albums on the mac to lightroom 5

Have you used the built-in migration plug-in? I'm not sure how LR handles iPhoto albums or events. there have been several reports indicating varying levels of success or otherwise, with import.
See my comments on this similar thread which also has a link to users comments on the LR journal blog.

  • Iphoto 9.6 .. Events issue

    HI léonie,
I've a similar problem and hope I've made a clear description of it.
    System information:
    MacBook Pro 17inch - late 2007
    Version OS: 10.10 (14A389)
    iPhoto: 9.6 (910.29)
    # Events: 129
    # Photo’s: 13.604
    Other (maybe useful) information:
    - When the issue starts, this was under the Mavericks OS. I’m using Yosemite now.
    - I make from each (backed-up) library a catalogue (Event-name + photo ID)
    - My Event-name is always built up in the same way: <Year> - <Country-name>; <Place> - <short description>
    - No links to external discs active / no shares with iCloud
    - the same back-up is written to 2 external discs separately
    - some private photo’s created in Albums are shared on Facebook
    Background:
Because I’m doing long-term projects as a photographer I have Events in my active photo-library which are dating back to 2011. During this year I upgraded from iPhoto8 to iPhoto11, it looked like that everything went okay after I used the converting software for the library. But then I started to use “Faces” (and for my feeling,) it was then when the trouble starts.
    Symptoms:
    - photo’s were thrown out of the Events and being mixed up with others or they were put in an unnamed event
    - photo’s which should not be in the active Library appeared back
    - after converting a backed up Library and activating the (as I call it) “Face option”, the earlier described symptoms occur.
    - but it happens not consequently because for instance “Event Y” in Backed-up library 1 on HardDiskA doesn’t have the same amount of pictures in the same “Event” but then on HardDiskB
    - searching on Finder-level, I run into Events dating back before 2011 which should not in my active library anymore (after backing-up an active level, I throw all the Events in the Trash, subsequently empty the Trash).
    - also on Finder-level, the corresponding folder with the Event consists of different photo’s than in the iPhoto Event. (I’ve checked this by using 2 Events; made a detailed inventory - photo ID + shooting date / time; compared it on iPhoto-level / Finder-level)
    Consequences:
    - All my backed up Libraries and my current Library are a mess
    Question:
    - can you (or somebody else) provide me a splendid idea to correct this in a fast way? or should I (how I will find the time for this?!?!?!) correct all these libraries manually, photo by photo - according to my own created catalogues?
    Thank you in advance,
    Frank

    Symptoms:
    - photo’s were thrown out of the Events and being mixed up with others or they were put in an unnamed event
    - photo’s which should not be in the active Library appeared back
That may be caused by "Recovered items" due to the bug I mentioned above or by and external editor saving files into your library. Are you using an external editor with your library?
    - after converting a backed up Library and activating the (as I call it) “Face option”, the earlier described symptoms occur.
    This may be a coincidence.
    - but it happens not consequently because for instance “Event Y” in Backed-up library 1 on HardDiskA doesn’t have the same amount of pictures in the same “Event” but then on HardDiskB
Have you checked, if there are photos in the "Hidden" album?
    - searching on Finder-level, I run into Events dating back before 2011 which should not in my active library anymore (after backing-up an active level, I throw all the Events in the Trash, subsequently empty the Trash).
Again, there may be several reasons that emptying the Trash does not work. Either the bug I mentioned, or permission problems. If your Home folder has a permissions problem or the hard drive with your iPhoto Library, iPhoto may not be able to move the trashed items from your iPhoto Trash to the system Trash on your Desktop. Then the trashed events may stay hidden in the Library.
Try to delete a few of the items that have reappeared now. Can they now be moved to the Trash on your Desktop, when you empty the Trash?
    - also on Finder-level, the corresponding folder with the Event consists of different photo’s than in the iPhoto Event. (I’ve checked this by using 2 Events; made a detailed inventory - photo ID + shooting date / time; compared it on iPhoto-level / Finder-level)
Don't rely on the folder structure you are seeing for the original image files in the Finder. This is not meant to be human readable. The way the images are stored in your iPhoto Library has changed considerably between iPhoto versions and is not a feature of the user interface. It can change any time. Right now, iPhoto will store events in folders according to the data of the import session. That may not necessarily be the date you took the photo, but the date of he last iPhoto Library upgrade.
In what way is the backup a mess? You backed up the libraries before you upgraded to Yosemite, didn't you? Have you opened the backed up libraries  and they were also upgraded?

Question: Inadvertently a visiting toddler gained access to my computer during a visit. He's obviously fiddled with something as I can no longer use my arrow keys to navigate through my albums or events on iPhoto. Only one pic shows up in the album view - I can't see any thumbnails. To see the other pics I have to use the scroll bar on the right hand side of the window. Please help!

Depeding on your version of iPhoto: On the left (iPhoto 11) or right (earlier versions) of the lower frame of the iPhoto Window you'll see a slider. Drag it left.

You need to use a credit card with a billing address in the same country as the delivery address.  Since there's no Apple Print Store for Costa Rica I assume you're using the United States print store.  Therefore you'll need a credit card with a billing address in the US.

From where did you lose the iPhoto icon? From the Dock? If so, then it's still in your Applications folder. Find it there then drag the icon back into the Dock. If it's no longer in Applications perhaps you've moved or renamed it. Use Spotlight to search for "iphoto."
Upgrading to Mountain Lion will not affect your iPhoto Library unless you erase the hard drive first. Be sure you backup before any system upgrade.
Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You must purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
             7. Xserve (Early 2009)
         Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.
Am I eligible for the free upgrade?
See Apple - Free OS X Mountain Lion upgrade Program.
For a complete How-To introduction from Apple see Upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion.

  • ITunes doesn't "see" iPhoto and can't sync photos, albums or events.

When I connect my iPod Video 30Gb, iTunes launches like a champ.
Clicking on the Photo tab within the iPod setting screen displays a dimmed reference to iPhoto.
Enabling this option fails to display any of the 300+ events nor any photos.
In fact, the screen says at the bottom "Coping photos from iPhoto requires iPhoto 4.0.3 or later.
    I have:
    iPhoto 7.0.2 (341) (part of iLife '08)
    iTunes 7.4.2 (4)
    Mac 10.4.10
I've already rebuilt the albumdata.xml file inside the iPhoto package. No luck.
I have iPhoto Library Manager (great tool, btw) and have:
checked permissions - all are read & write even though the iPhoto Library is on a permissions free drive.
created a new Library - no change
It is as if iTunes thinks I have an old copy of iPhoto. Before I reinstall iPhoto and/or iTunes .... thoughts?

I was having a similar problem after updating to iLife '08 and Leopard. No matter what I did in iPhoto (creating new albums or deleting old ones), iTunes always showed my old iPhoto album list and all were empty. I finally deleted albumdata.xml and restarted iPhoto and iTunes and violå, iTunes suddenly showed the correct (current) iPhoto album list.

  • Iphoto album synced issue...

Has anyone noticed once you sync an iphoto album and open pictures, then while your on the "photo albums" screen and press the home button and the app closes there is a white pixel that stalls for a second in the middle of the third row of apps?
    I know I'm nitpicking...maybe I'll send some feedback...

it only happens via photos app, none of the others, its like the gui is messed up for the closing of this app...I submitted a bug, but it is a very small detail...
