IPhoto albums not appearing in iTunes

Hi
I usuaully can fix these issues myself but this one has me frustrated.  I bought a new Mac around 6 months ago and transferred all photos to the new computer.  Everything was working perfectly.  However, recently I have added photos to iPhoto in a few new albums.   Now, when I try to sync photos with my iPad/iPhone all the old albums are there but none of the new ones are shown.  I also cannot stream any of the new albums through to my AppleTV as they do not appear.
I have looked into the Home Sharing preferences in iTunes - File>Home Sharing>Choose Photos to Share with Apple TV and the new albums do not appear there either.
I've looked everywhere but cannot see why it does not pick up these new albums.  Around the time, I put all my media on an external drive and changed the pathway but it all seems fine for my musice, tv and movies but not photos.
So they albums are in iPhoto but not in iTunes.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

If a new library worked then your current library is damaged.  Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • New photo albums not appearing in iTunes

I upgraded to IOS6. Now when I create a new photo album in iPhoto it does not appear in iTunes when I sync my iPad. I am now no longer able to add photo albums to my iPad. I do not want to use the cloud to manage my photos.  Anyone else encounter this problem?

Indeed, following the instructions from this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1614078&tstart=60
first led to iTunes finally clearing its cached information, but it still would not adop the new Contacts. They would only appear after following the instructions from the other thread mentioned above:

  • IPhoto Albums not seen in iTunes after iOS 6 update

I upgraded a 3rd gen iPad and an iPhone 4 to iOS 6, then updated my Macbook Pro (2.4 ghz quad core i7, 8GB RAM) to 10.8.2 with the requisite iPhoto update.  Now, iTunes will not show my iPad even though wireless sync is enabled, unless the iPad is connected to the laptop via the docking cable.  Both iPhone and iPad error out on synch with an error 1140 if synching photos is enabled.  Under the photo tab, the button to have "selected albums, events and faces" is grayed out.  So I can only select to sync ALL photos or none.  I believe the error 1140 is stemming from my library being too large to sync to the i-device.  In any case, I can no longer choose certain albums that were enabled under iOS 5.  The area below these options in the Photos tab in iTunes also does not show any albums, where it used to do so in a grayed out fashion even if that option was not selected.  Major issue here.  Have tried all the rebuild and repair of iPhoto library.  The kicker is that both the devices I upgraded have the exact same issue, so I'm thinking this is an update/Apple problem, not an issue with my devices or config.

Ok, all.  I think I found the problem.  In searching for reports of this issue and solutions I found someone that mentioned they had fixed a similar issue with a "free" program called "iPhoto Library Manager."  The app apparently lets you split a library into multiple smaller ones or combine multiple libraries.  Generally it just "manages" your libraries.  I figured I had nothing to lose so I checked it out.  Turns out it costs $19.99 but they do have a free demo.
I launched it and it immediately told me that it couldn't display my library and albums due to an issue with the AlbumData.xml file on line 22155.  I read in the documentation of the app under it's "Help" menu that likely causes were a keyword with a "null" character at the end, or a file path being referenced inside the library that had an ampersand or backslash in it.  The person on the board I'd found had had a keyword issue.
Anyway, I opened the iPhoto library by showing package contents (right click the file to choose this) and loaded up the AlbumData.xml file in TextWrangler, since that displays line numbers.  I found that line 22155 indeed referenced an mp3 in my iTunes library that had an ampersand in it.  Deleted that line.  Then it said line 22156 had an issue so I deleted that, at which point iPhoto Library Manager instantly displayed all my albums.  I checked iTunes and it too now showed my albums and the option to sync only selected albums was no longer grayed out!
Per the Library Manager's instructions, I saved the AlbumData.xml file I'd modified.  The app said the iPhoto only writes this file out, it doesn't read it.  However, other apps read it to get your album info, hence the issue.  So I had to go into iPhoto and fix the problem, else the next time I exited the app, it would write the file back out improperly.  I noticed in the xml file that where the song was listed it was also referencing one of my albums.  So when I launched iPhoto, I went to that album and checked the slide show settings.  Sure enough, I had set a custom playlist for that album and listed the song I had seen on line 22155 in the AlbumData.xml file.  I removed that song from the settings, and exited iPhoto.  No more issues!  I appear to be all set!
Now, I'm not clear if I NEEDED to edit the AlbumData.xml file.  Just looking at it showed the error and then I had to fix it in iPhoto.  So you can probably do that.  However, the iPhoto Library Manager software is the only thing I know of that could show WHERE the error was.  Since the free demo works for this purpose, I'd suggest giving it a shot.  This issue is obviously caused by our individual libraries and is not an Apple issue.  Now, the album that had the problem has existed for almost 3 years and I've never had an issue like this arise before so it's anyone's guess as to why it became a problem now.  Fortunately, it's all in the past for me now, though!
Hope this helps someone.  Good luck!

  • IPhoto album not appearing on Apple TV

I just created a new album on iPhoto.
The new album appears in iTunes - "Choose Photos to Share" and I checked this particular album; however, the new album is not displayed on the Apple TV.
All my older albums are displayed on Apple TV, but not the new one.
    Thanks for your help.

Try quiting iPhoto or restarting iTunes, or turning the Apple TV off and on, or basically anything to close and re-open the homeshare connection.

  • IPhoto Events NOT Appearing in iTunes for iPhone Syncing

    Hi Guys,
I'm a recent convert from PC to mac. I loaded all my pictures into iPhoto and it recognized them all correctly as Events.
In iTunes though, I don't see a listing of my events. It says "Last 3 Months" and "Last Import"
How can I get it to see my events?

You need to create "Albums" in iPhoto if you want them separated by Events:
Ex: Johnny's Birthday (drag the birthday pix in Album-Titled: Johnny's Birthday
    Next Album, etc.
In iTunes, when you go to the "Photos" Tab.. you choose which Albums you want to sync in phone.. Then Ta daa!
I personally, just made an Album Titled "iPhone". Any pix I want in my iPhone, I just drag it in that file.. (all events)
That way I only have to worry about one file.

  • IPhoto Albums not Appearing in List to Sync with Nano

I have a second gen nano. I want to sync an iPhoto album on it. When I look at the Photos tab in iTunes, there are no albums listed in the "selected albums" box. In fact, the radio button for that choice is grayed out as well.
How can I get the "selected albums" box to populate?

For anyone reading this later, look at Dave's messages in this thread. I followed his advice to edit the appropriate xml file and it solved the problem.

  • Album not appearing in iTunes!

I am a new user of an IPad and using it with iTunes.  I have a good selection of purcahsed via iTunes music and that's all downloaded fine.  I also have been ripping some of my purchased CDs using iTunes and in the main this works great.  I have some audio tape cassettes of music.  I have input this via Audacity into mp3 tracks. But I converted these to MP4 and put them in a folder of the Artists name and under that a folder of the album name.  I then put the artist folder into the My Music/iTunes folder.  But it doesn't appear in the list of artists on the iTunes for my IPad.  So normally I tick this, say apply and then sync and the music is transferred to the IPad.  Is there some way to tell iTunes to sync with the PC in the folder iTunes in My Music that appears to be where it puts all the music for iTunes/IPad etc...

Um, I'm trying to understand you clearly, sorry if I misunderstood you.
    Right...
Music on CDs is in digital form and have data on them. They tend to have some small data on them that tells any machines, be it portable CD players, Hi-Fi, car CD players, computers, etc., what is the album called, who is the artist, how long is the track, and so on.  That's how those LCD displays list track numbers or how long it is or whatever.
When you rip your CDs in your computer, via iTunes or any other software, it is my understanding that those tend to go online and connect to some big database that contents all the details about CDs sold in shops, your software reads some kind of catalogue number off the CD and compare it to the database, and download information about the CD.
This big database is called Graceland or something. You could check it out on Wikipedia for some more details.
However when it comes to audio tapes, the music on them are in analogue form, when you imput those music into your computer via Audacity or whatever you got, and converte them into MP3 or MP4 form, whatever you do, there is no way for those software to know any details about the music on the tapes. There is no data files for the computer to send via Internet to Graceland or similar to get a full list of artist, album title, track titles, running time, album art, etc.
It is somewhat similar to say...
A digital camera will tag the photo with a small file that contents date, time, etc., so your computer will know when it was taken. That's your CD and ripping.
But a film camera only captures the picture only. You are the one who knows when it was taken, so you are the one who have to write down the date and time on the back of the photo yourself. That is you and your audio tape.
So go to any of the tracks you have on iTunes, right click to bring up a sub-menu, click on 'Get Info' to bring up a box, then you would have to type in manually the name of artist in the boxes. You have to tell iTunes who this track belongs to, otherwise iTunes would assume it is unknown artist.
    Hope this helps?

From the box the iphone came in:
Syncing with iTunes on a Mac or PC requires:
Mac: OS X v10.5.8 or later
PC: Windows 7; Windows Vista; or Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 3 or later
iTunes 10.5 or later (free download fromwww.itunes.com/download)"

and my computer opened iPhoto as it always does. It obviously recognized the device, but the iPod sis not appear in iTunes and I therefore could not sync it. Is there some setting I may have accidentally turned off?
Also, today, there seems to be no sound coming through either my internal speakers or my headphones, and not just in iTunes. I doubt these two problems are related, but perhaps there is something beyond coincidence and an old computer?

but the iPod sis not appear in iTunes and I therefore could not sync it.
Try reinstalling the AMDS >  iTunes: How to remove and reinstall the Apple Mobile Device Service on Mac OS X

For sound issues check System Preferences > Sound

  • ITunes or iPhoto do not appear when I click the music or photo icons

I wish to add music & photos to my production in iMovie. But when I click the music or photo icons, iTunes and iPhotoe do not appear in the boxes that open. I can have them open in another window and drag them in, but this is not what is supposed to happen, what can I do ?

Do you mean you have checked the box: "Always use private browsing mode"? If so, it's intentional that the private browsing icon isn't displayed as we didn't want Firefox to be showing everyone within view that you're using private browsing mode IIRC.
There are some easy things you can do to confirm that you are in private browsing mode such as visiting a new website and then confirming it doesn't appear in the history window.

  • Device Synch Menus does not appear in iTunes 11 on Windows 8 PC

My 3rd generation iPod Nano connected to Windows-8 PC and iTunes 11 - Device "Summary" menu does not appear.  If you select the <File> menu in iTunes there is an option to "Synch Nano".  My iTunes is set to manually manage music on the Nano - because the "Summary" menu does not appear in iTunes it is impossible to select albums to Synch with the Nano.
On the upper right bar there is an eject button for the iPod Nano.  This does in fact eject the Nano device and re-appears in iTunes if you disconnect the device then reconnect the iPod Nano.
No other device menus are present in iTunes 11 under Windows-8.  The iPod Nano music library also does not appear.
Only the PC based iTunes music library is visible.
Itunes software versions are both current on the Nano and Windows-8 PC.
The computer was deauthorized and then authorized in iTunes.
The Synch History was reset in iTunes Preferences - this did not re-establish the Nano as a device to synch with iTunes.  (Typically fixes similar problems)
Resetting nano device by holding Menu after switching unit on/off (Apple Logo Appears then Reboots Nano) makes no difference.
Nano shows as a drive in Windows-8 in "My Computer" and the operating system recognizes the device connection.
No problem ejecting and reconnecting the Nano in Itunes but traditional device menus are gone with the exception of the eject button.
Tested the same iTunes Nano on two other computers with iTunes 11 installed on Windows-7 and Windows XP - works fine.  This issue only occurs on Windows-8 computers.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • HT1386 Itune 11 on Windows 7 x64 and iPad 2. The device do not appear in Itunes.

    Itune 11 on Windows 7 x64 and iPad 2.
On 3 different PC and 3 different iPad 2 when I installed iTunes 11.1 Windows Autoplay recognise the iPad but iTunes do not.
The device does not appear in iTunes and thus neither synchronisation nor backup are possible.
Reverting to the previous version of iTunes solved the issue.
However with IOS 7 iTunes 11.1 is required and I am back with the same issue. Could you please help?
    Thanks and best regards

If you try syncing with iTunes again, perhaps the phantom album will be erased since it does not exist on the computer.
Have you tried restarting or maybe resetting the iPad to see if the album will disappear?
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • IOS 5 Devices not appearing in iTunes 11.1.3 (8)

I have 2 different iOS 5 devices that will not appear in iTunes 11.1.3 (8) on a Mac running Mavericks. One is a 4th gen iPod Touch and the other is a 1st gen iPad Wi-Fi + 3G. I have tried erasing the devices from the device and starting over, hard resetting, other cables, etc., but nothing works. Both are immediately recognized by iPhoto when they are plugged into the computer, but iTunes seems to hate them. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
