IPhoto and Images Storage Question

I've started a task of scanning in a bunch of old negitive strips. The strips are not organized so I never know whats really on them until I've scanned them. What I have been doing is scanning all the negitives to a scan folded on the desktop. When I've scanned them all in I create other folders on the desktop that are named by the event. After I put all the pics into the appropiate folders I drag the folder from my desktop into iPhoto. Normally this works fine if but when I try to drag a single or set of pics into an existing event in iPhoto it creates a new "unnamed event". How can I move these pics over to an existing filder. Also, can I put the folder that I created on the desktop into the trash once the pics have been imported into iPhoto so I dont have two copies laying around?
Thanks,
Jim

Jim
You cannot import to a specific event. You can however move pics between events in the iPhoto Window to consolidate them - drag and drop will do it.
Assuming that you’re using iPhoto in the default mode, then the pics are copied into the iPhoto Library, therefore yes, you can delete the versions on the desktop.

  • HT201302 Old iphone 3g has photos on it. When I plug into my imac iphoto and image capture only bring up photos in the camera roll. There were more photos on albums and photo library on the iphone that arent showing up in iphoto and icapture.

My old iphone 3g has photos on it. When I try to get the photos off and onto my imac iphoto and image capture only bring up the camera roll. I have more pictures that arent on the camera roll there are albums and a photo library full of pictures that I want off of this dang phone. I have tried everything and I cant email them to myself because the service has been cut off of the phone. They are stuck on the phone there is there any way to get them off? Am I missing something.

The iphone is not a storage/backup device.  It simply mirrors the selected content of the computer to which it is synced.
Again, the photo sync is one way.
Did you fail to maintain a backup copy of your old computer?
Not good.  You can e-mail the photos from your iphone.  You do not need to have phoe service for this.  The iphone uses wi-fi.  The photos will never be of the original quality, as they are reduced when synced to iphone.

  • I updated iphoto and images weren't visible.

I updated iphoto and images weren't visible.  Still in the library but not visible.. did all the normal start up fixes like rebuilding thumbnails, database etc --- bt nothing worked...
I copied images folders ORIGINAL MODIFIED etc -to an external harddrive and tried to restore my library from time maching - but now it tells me I don't have the memory...
Of course I deleted the 'new' library and tried ... still the same information.
I am now copying my time machine iphoto library to an external harddrive - but what is the go with this?  I've also lost my iphoto books that took hours to build...
    I'm devastated!
    Any help would be appreciated!

Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.>Click on the Add Library button,
2 -  select the library you want to add from those in the selection window.
3 - make sure that in the rebuild window the checkbox  "Scavange orphaned photos" is checked.
4 - now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
5 - in the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed. Click on the Create button.
Note 1: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.
Note 2:  Your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

  • IPhoto and Image Capture does not see the iPhone as a camera

Whether I launch iPhoto or Image Capture, in both cases the iPhone is not recognized as a camera. I am running firmware 1.1.1. I am afraid up upgrade to 1.1.3 because I do not want to lose my pictures. This was working at one point, but now it is not. I have no problems syncing music and video content within iTunes. I recently used migration assistant to move my home folder to my new Mac Pro running leopard. I am not sure if this is when it stopped working. I also tried using the Tiger machine at work, but the same thing happens there as well in both apps. Is there anything anyone can suggest?

This helped me. It is advice I found from a user named Carlosmara. First make sure iPhoto is closed and your iPhone is not connected. Then, as Carlosmara stated in his post,
"Go to your Library/preferences and delete the file com.apple.iPhoto.plist
IPhoto should recognized the iPhone again."
The file in question is under your user folder.
I then restarted my mac and plugged in the iPhone so that it would sync. After the sync, when I opened iPhoto, my iPhone was recognized and I could download the photos perfectly.
Hopefully this will help you as it helped me

  • ELOM Remote Console Scriptability and Remote Storage Questions

    Hello,
I have a few questions reguarding scriptability of the Java Web Start eLOM Remote Console and the use of this application for redirecting remote storage.
    Setup:
    - x6250s in 6048 chasis
    - x6250 Bios version 1ADPI040 & SP version 4.0.52
    - Sun eLOM Remote Console version 2.53.05
    - CentOS 5.2
    Questions:
    - I'd like to write a wrapper script that would allow me to start a remote console on the Linux command line. Then, a command line like "myjavaconsole bladexyz" would give me a java remote KVM without me having to click through the web interface. Is something like this possible? Hints?
    - The [Sun Blade X6250 Server Module Embedded Lights Out Manager Administration Guide|http://docs.sun.com/source/820-1253-14/remote_con.html#0_66586] says that you can use the eLOM Remote Console GUI to redirect storage devices including CD/DVD drives, Flash, DVD-ROM or diskette disk drives, hard drives, or NFS. These seem very instersting options, but I've only been able to sucessfully redirect an ISO image. Are these other options really possible?
    - Is it possible to script the mounting/unmounting of remote ISO images or other storage? I would love to be able to control blade boot processes by having this functionality.
    Thank you,
    -Matthew

It seems the problem is related somehow to the setup of my Windows box. I did try a couple of other Windows boxes with the same result, but everything worked perfectly when using a Linux/ubuntu system to run the remote console. The blade saw the CD, booted from it, and is now happily running ESX Server.
The wierd thing is, the ubuntu system was running inside VMWare Workstation on the same Windows PC that has the problems, and was accessing the same physical CD drive. Sometimes you have to think out of the box, or in this case into a box inside the box:-)
I guess if these things we all straightforward I'd be out of a job, so I shouldn't complain!!
    Steve.

  • Iphoto and cloud storage

Does anyone know of a solution which allows me to store iPhoto pictues in "the cloud."  The goal here is to be able to view photos on my apple tv or iPad without having to rely on my laptop always being on with home sharing enabled.
The only solution I have come across so far would be to use iPhoto in parallel with Google Picasca for mac to upload photos to Picasca Web Albums.
Does Apple have any plans to have perminate storage on iCloud for this?

You are correct, there is no Apple iCloud solution for photos.  I would like to be able to use iCloud for permanent storage instead of paying another third-party to store my photos where they will not easily be accessible from my Apple devices.
Therefore, Apple is suggesting I leave my computer on with iTunes running home sharing 24/7 to be able to access my meida since they are not offering me a solution "in the cloud" for photo storage.
I was just trying to see if anyone else had run into this issue, as everyone seems to be moving toward "the cloud" now a days to store and share media.  Or see if anyone had come across a home NAS solution which you store your meida at home but still have it accessible via my Apple TV 2 or iPad without needing to have iTunes open with home sharing enabled, possible on Linux server.

    Matt

  • Iphoto and image capture not recognizing kodak camera

    Hello!
I am having trouble uploading photos from my Kodak easyshare dx4530 to iphoto 6.0.5. This is a new thing as I have uploaded many times before. The camera is not recognized by iphoto or by image capture when the usb is connected. The camera and usb work fine when connected to my husband's ibook G4.
I tried moving the preferences to the trash (com.apple.iphoto.plist and com.apple.imagecaptureapp.plist) and this did not work. There is only 1 account on the computer and it is the admin account.
Thanks in advance for any help offered.

    pb35:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Is the camera recognized by System Profiler? Did you run any updates before this problem began? A first cut would be a reinstall of the 10.4.9 COMBO updater followed by a permissions repair.
I'd create a second, non-admin, very vanilla account and see if the camera is recognized there by iPhoto or IC. A second plain account is a very good troubleshooting tool to see if the problem is with what's been added to the primary account.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

  • Layout cell and image repeat question

I want to put a background image into a layout cell. The

repeats itself from left to right. How can I stop this? I want the
image to appear once and once only. Should I just create a layout
cell with a smaller width and another cell next to it?

  • IPhoto and Image Capture won't recognize jpegs

Ok, yes I know this has been discussed, but I feel the solutions in previous threads were work arounds, not solutions to the actual problem.
I have a Kodak digital camera, and a MacBook pro (with the software up to date).  I'm using iPhoto '09.  I've used this combination for 3+ years without a problem.  In the past when I plugged in my camera, iPhoto recognized the camera, and recognized the photographs, and imported them without a problem.  Today when I plugged in the camera, it iPhoto recognized the camera, however it cannot recognize the jpegs on the camera, it gives the error "format not recognized."  I have not (intentionally) changed any settings on the camera or iPhoto.  What could have changed to make this combination work once before, but now no more?
    -Randy

In your first post you say:
Ok, yes I know this has been discussed, but I feel the solutions in previous threads were work arounds, not solutions to the actual problem.
Correct. They are workarounds. There is no current solution.

  • Seed_pool and general storage question

I am trying to deploy EBS 12.1.3 Prod and Apps VM templates on a VM Server using just internal disk and I am running out of space.
So do I need the seed_pool files after I have successfully imported the templates as Virtual Machnes?
I was thinking I could also maybe create an NFS share from another server and mount the /OVS/seed_pool directory that way if needed.
    Yes/No?
    Edited by: user6445925 on May 13, 2011 9:33 PM

I don't know if there is a better way to manage this but what we are doing is NFS mounting multiple file systems from a NetApp then move the files we want to the file systems we want and connect it all back to the file system that /OVS is pointed to with symbolic links
    e.g.
    10.53.252.2:/vol/cos1_tier03_rms_testdev_os_ovm_nfs
    158G 87G 72G 55% /var/ovs/mount/1A57047A2ABE4210B37DEEF62C33CF1F
    10.53.252.2:/vol/cos1_tier03_rms_testdev_asm_ovm_nfs
    2.0T 356G 1.7T 18% /var/ovs/mount/0465D5417DAB4F9F9D4EFDB141940AE6
    10.53.252.2:/vol/cos1_tier03_rms_testdev_app_ovm_nfs
    450G 417G 34G 93% /var/ovs/mount/7B543EC95C0B40648377E762F2F04713
    [root@ovs-tst-01 /]# ls -l /OVS
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 47 Feb 9 16:00 /OVS -> /var/ovs/mount/1A57047A2ABE4210B37DEEF62C33CF1F
so copy the file you want into the 2tb file system then link them back to the same location in the 158gb file system where the /OVS link points to. This is the way that we have figured out to put different storage needs onto different volumes on the NetApp - specifically moving +ASM to a different storage pool on the NetApp.

  • Videos taken with iphone 4 imported as jpegs to iphoto and image capture???

extremely annoying problem. When I try to import the videos I shoot with my iphone 4 they upload to my mac as jpegs. ie. the movie file looks like this IMG_0102.MOV and when I click the file a picture opens in preview rather than the movie opening in quicktime.

It sounds like it could be a file permissions issue. Try repairing the permissions of the hard drive from within Disk Utility and rebooting the Mac.
You'll probably find that it's not just the iPad that is affected. If you were to remove the videos from your camera roll on the iPhone you would probably run into the same problem when trying to sync them back from iPhoto.
PS do you have a previous backup of the iPhoto library? If so try setting the backup as your main iPhoto library and then see if that syncs to your iPad.

  • Macbook Pro and iCloud storage questions/help

Hi all, Im needing help here as my Macbook Pro has become extremely slow and sluggish, is this because there is too much stored on it? Having iCloud should help take extra room up on the Macbook should it not?
Just general help and advice regarding these matters would be appreciated.

iCloud is a syncing facility, not a separate storage one, and any data on iCloud is duplicated on your Mac. You would do better to buy an external hard disk and use it to store bulky data such as media files.

  • My iMac will no longer import .jpg files.  With either iPhoto or image capture

Can someone tell me why iPhoto and Image Capture say that .jpg is no longer a supported format.  I've imported hundreds of photos from my camera before and now I can't.  I noticed this after I had placed the SD card in my Panasonic Viera TV to view the photos.  Is it possible that the TV screwed up the formating on the SD card?  I'm still able to view them on the camera, but unable to import them.

Try this:  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. If the problem does not repeat itself in the test library then your current library is the culprit.
If that's the case try the following: make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Old iphone3 photo albums not showing in iphoto and I want to import them

I found my old iphone3 today and discovered a heap of photos on there that we lost years ago when our hard drive died.
I'm very keen to get these photos onto the computer and of course then back them up onto an external drive!
When I plug the phone into my mac, both iphoto and image capture only show the photos that are in the camera roll to import, not any of the albums that are on the phone. I'm assuming this is because at one point in the phones life the album photos had already been imported, but that doesn't help me now.
    Any suggestions?
I've also tried opening the photos in preview, but again it only shows up the camera roll photos.
    Thanks in advance

I'm assuming this is because at one point in the phones life the album photos had already been imported, but that doesn't help me now.
Have the photos been synced to your iPhone using iTunes? Then you cannot import them directly. iPhoto, Image Capture, Aperture will only import photos, that are in the Camera Roll, not synced photos. On no account sync your iPhone again with iTunes, until you have rescued the photos.
See:  iOS: Syncing photos using iTunes
You can't reimport pictures synced from your computer to your device back to your computer. You can only import pictures in the Camera Roll or Saved Photos from your device to your computer. If you need to retrieve synced photos from your device:
Email them from the device to yourself.
Copy them from the emails to your computer.

  • Just bought a 2tb external hard drive with the intention of moving my iPhoto data files on it. I have so much of my 500 gigs being used up by images and video. Questions: Will this foul up my iPhoto app? Do I need to point iPhoto to this new location?

Just bought a 2tb external hard drive with the intention of moving my iPhoto data files to it. I have so much of my 500 gigs being used up by images and video. Questions: Will this foul up my iPhoto app?
Do I need to point iPhoto to this new location?
    Thanks!

Are you running a Managed or a Referenced Library?
A Managed Library, is the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing. The files are then stored in the Library package
A Referenced Library is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing because you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced. (You unchecked the option to copy files into the Library on import) The files are then stored where ever you put them and not in the Library package. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.
    Assuming a Managed Library:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
