IPhoto and iMovie gone after Mavericks upgrade
I upgraded my MacBook Pro to Mavericks and lost ALL of my applications. I finally have most everything back in order, but iPhoto and iMovie are gone and now the App Store says I need to purchase them.
Why should I have to purchase them when I already own them from the purchase of my MacBook Pro? Getting a free Mavericks upgrade should not cause me to have to spend $30 to get the applications back that I already owned in the first place.
Please help me restore those two applications.
Thanks,
Greg
so please read my responce
2 - to get them back you reinstall from the original source - which may be the restore disk that came with your computer, a purchased iLife upgrade or the app store using the Apple ID you used to set your computer up
Maybe it is clearer using bullet points rather that standard English puncuation
To get them back you reinstall from the original source
which may be
1 - The restore disk that came with your computer,
2 - a purchased iLife upgrade or
3 - the app store using the Apple ID you used to set your computer up - in this case you go to the App store under purchases
Only you know what the original source is
As as to who should pay for yoru mistake -- obviously if your mistake creates a cost then you should pay the cost you created - pretty simple stuff
As to Time Machine - yes they should be there but it is better to reinstall them - copying from a backup dose not work well for applications

IMovie Issue after Mavericks upgrade
I upgraded my iMac 2009 to Mavericks today. I updated all the user accounts for format changes to Mail, iPhoto and iMovie. What a pain. I don't recall this being an issue before (I was running Lion) but iMovie now only lets one user run iMovie at a time. A dialog pops up stating "You can't open the application "iMove.app" because someone else is using it. Ask the other user to quit the application, and then try again." Was this always like this? It's kind of funny to have an app that behaves like this. Does anyone know what wrong? Operator or System error? Thanks.
Update Saturday Jan 4, 2014
Before my Mavericks upgrade on my Mac Pro, no problems ever (use my Mac 4-8 hours a day) using my Bose Companion 5 USB connected speakers. I've tried shutting the Mac down and plugging the Bose USB cable into another open USB port = no joy and other combinations. I tested the same Bose Companion 5 USB speakers on two other laptops with NO issues (ouch...they were running Windows 7) I have deleted the two .plist files, did the CMD+OPT+P+R reset, etc... = no change. Looked into Midi Audio Setup and did not see anything in there to change even though I tried a couple of things and no avail (there was no Garageband setting/entry).
I still get a solid "BEEEEEEEEP" sound every 20+ seconds, when the sounds tries to toggle, by itself, between the Bose USB Audio device and the Internal Speakers. -
I had not upgraded to the free 10.8 update.
Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If you do a clean installation, you will lose all iLife apps (iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand) because they are not included in OS X. However, after reinstalling OS X, you will be able to reinstall them for free from the Mac App Store. Open the Mac App Store, go to Purchases and download the iLife applications. Note that the latest version is only compatible with OS X Mavericks.
Also, make a backup of your files with Time Machine before upgrading and check that your apps are supported > http://www.roaringapps.com -
IMovie, IPhoto won't update after Mavericks upgrade from OSX 10.06
Upgraded to Mavericks, iMovie won't update, says, "This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled." And then I get a null error.
However, I am using the only apple ID I have to sign in to the app store. You can update for free to version 9.5.1 in the App store

IPhoto library gone after Mavericks upgrade?
After upgrading, iPhoto tried to index but I don't believe it happened. Then the library disappeared. I retrieved the library from Time Machine but it won't load ie, no pictures! Next? On an iMac, 2008, 2.9 mghz dual core Intel.
Rebuilt, repaired etc library , no luck. Problem might be download of iPhoto. It shows the new iPhoto 9.5 on About iPhoto, however in Apps, it shows no record of download to 9.5 My other Mac, a MacBook has 9.5, works great and shows download on App. with a date. I'm guessing it never downloaded (fully) but shows it did on my iMac. Since I can't re-download, guess I'll call Apple :-(

IPhoto is very slow after Mavericks upgrade
I'm running a 27" mid-2011 iMac with 4 GB memory and I've recently upgraded to OS X 10.9 (Mavericks). I've had a chance to load iPhoto 11 (9.5) a few times now and it does so slowly each time. I have about 33k+ photos/videos and they're stored on my main hard drive. Basically, iPhoto slows to a crawl and lags when I try to scroll up/down or try to view photos. In addition, my iMac exhibits the same behavior when I try to switch between applications, run Spotlight search, or load a page within my browser. Any suggestions on how to remedy this problem?
Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. It will be slow, but maybe not as slow.
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2. -
After upgrading to Mavericks I cannot update iPhoto and iMovie. Why?
Just got my first Mac, an iMac. I upgraded to Maverick and once done I find there are updates available for iPhoto and iMovie. First I have tried to register "accept" the two apps. Nothing happens. Then I try to update them and get the answer that these apps was installed with another Apple ID. The thing is that I don't have any other Apple ID and noone else has touched my iMac. I have tried to reinstall Maverick three times now but end up with the same result. Anyone who has any clue or have experienced the same problem?
Open System Preferences > Users & Groups then select the Password tab.
Make sure you see the correct Apple ID.
If not, click Change.
Make sure you are logged into your admin account before updating apps.
Reinstalling Mavericks requires using OS X Recovery but there's no reason to reinstall Mavericks just to update your apps.

My iPhoto and iMovie go missing after upgrade to Mavericks. How do I get it back?
I recently upgraded to Mavericks and my iPhoto and iMovie went missing. How do i get it back. I do not want to pay for it.
First if you haven't done so already click on the Apple Logout > and make sure you don't have more than one user account... If you don't log back in and see if your files came back. Try this:
press command + space keys > Search for terminal then hit enter.
from command line > type: cd ~/Documents (or Desktop or Pictures just depends where you had your files)
then type: ls -a (this will list all files even hidden ones let me know if you see your files or not)
*Note: Be sure to read the instructions carefuly and ask questions if you don't understand something. -
IPhoto and iMovie will not open with Mountain Lion upgrade.
Since upgrading to Mountain Lion OS 10.8, my iPhoto and iMovie will not open. I am using a newly purchased MB Air. I re-installed iPhoto from the App Store after trashing my previously installed iPhoto application. IPhoto Library Manager was downloaded as recommended on Apple Support but also will not open. I also tried to trach the iPhoto plist as recommended by a community member. Each application (iPhoto and iMovie) bounces above the dock and message received that application unexpectedly closed. Thank you for any recommendations.

OS X Mavericks problem with iphoto and imovie
Hi,
I having problem with my iphoto and imovie after installing 10.9. When i go to Appstore and ask me to recomfirm but there's nothing happen..why? kindly help me.If you purchased the apps from the Mac App Store, log into the Mac App Store, go to Purchases and redownload them. If you didn't and you have the CD/DVD of iLife you can reinstall the apps from there.
If you have a Time Machine backup or clone of your previous OS X install, you can use the Migration Assistant to copy over your apps. -
Can't reinstall IPhoto and IMovie after reinstallation of the operative system.
I made and reinstallation of the entire operative system of my Mac. But now having the MAc oS X Lion 10.7.5 I can't reinstall some apps as IPhoto and IMovie. They said I need the 10.9 version.
How am I proceed?
Thanks'Download Mavericks from the Mac App Store, or install those applications from a DVD; iLife 11 DVDs are available from sources such as Amazon and eBay, and if your computer's incapable of running Mavericks, it'll have come with disks which can be used to install them.

Iphoto and imovie and garageband don't work!!
iphoto and imovie and garageband will not reinstall, but they worked after upgrading to mountain lion, but have had to do a clean install and i can't get them to install now, any suggestions please?
thanks!I have the same probleme
Nevethless, I just tried the following scenario :
On my Imac (OS X Lion), I have two user accounts, mine and one for my daughter.
1. If my daughter send me an email from her account and her Iphoto using iphoto template, I receive her email on my accouint perfectly. I do not have the message "plug-in missing".
2. On the other hand, if I send an email from my account and my Iphoto using iphoto template to my daughter, she receives my email on her account with the message "plug-in missing".
It seems the probleme comes from either my iphoto or my domain an dnot from my mail application. But no idea to fix it. -
How to reinstall Garageband, iPhoto and iMovie
Three weeks ago, while I was surfing the net, the Macbook I was using suddenly displayed a message asking me to turn off and restart. I turned it off but it could not get restarted beyond the "sign on" screen. I tried to reinstall the OSx by using the CD that came along with the Macbook, but it could not work either. So I brought the Macbook to an authorised Apple Store, the technician on duty tried to do the installation as well but to no avail. I was told to leave the set there and to collect it 4 days later. True enough, I got my set back after the third day, I was told that since I upgraded the OSx from Snow Leopard to Lion, I could no longer use the CDs for reinstallation. The store also warned me that for this round, the reinstallation was free but for similar future installation, I would have to pay for service charge (by the way, my set is still under warranty).
The store also told me that I could reinstall Lion on-line but then I found these applications iPhoto, iMovie and GrarageBand missing after the reinstallation. Again the technician on duty reinstalled Lion several times but could not get these applications back. With no other help available, I took the set home and tried reinstallation several more times and tried downloading these applications without success. Finally, I went on-line to Apple Store to do a download, for iPhoto and iMovie I was billed but for GarageBand it was also downloaded but could not work, each time I click the icon, an error message "the instrument library is invalid" appear. Can anyone please help.B Teo wrote:

That is completely incorrect.

All you need to do to get these applications back is to insert disc 2 that originally came with your mac. I know this for sure because I just did a fresh install of Lion and the applications were missing as well, so I inserted disc 2 that came with my mac and reinstalled them (my mac originally came with Snow Leopard). It has those applications on it as well as the Apple Hardware Test. The people who you talked to have no idea what they are talking about. -
Hi,
after I updated my software to mavericks (Snow Leopard before) I'm missing here iphoto and imovie apps. I tried to download some old versions but none of them is working. I also cant get those apps from App store for free. It costs like 15 dollars for one. I just want to know whats happened? Did Apple just took this software away from Mavericks and start charging for it. I really liked those Apps and I used both of them very often but now I dont want to spend like 30 dollars to get them. Please help me to solve this.
Thank you for your help.Try going on launchpad it might be in there because thats what happened to me but with pages & i started freaking out but i clicked on launchpad & it was in there. hope this helps
