IPhoto and iTunes issues.

Good Afternoon Everyone,
I am having some problems with my iPhoto at the moment. I have over 15,000 images in the library, and they all appear in thumbnail format under their respective dates, however when I double click on any image between roughly image 6942 and 12428 to enlarge it and look at it on full screen, a blank window is all I see, there isn't even a thumbnail of it where it should appear in full size.
Can anyone suggest what I could do to rectify this problem?
I have archive and installed the original OS X discs, as suggested by an apple store rep and it hasnt fixed the problem.
Also now iTunes gives me an error msg when I try to run it saying that it will not run with this version of OS after the reinstall. Previously, iTunes would not connect to the apple store either, and would not find the CCDB info when importing a new CD, and he also told me that an arch and inst would fix this.
Maybe a couple of probs here, but the iPhoto is the most pressing I guess.
I would appreciate any suggestions or knowledge!
Cheers Trent.

Trent
Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). A Finder Window should open with the file selected. Does it?
As to the iTunes issue, best to pop that one over to the iTunes forum:

  • IMovie, Garageband, iPhoto and iTunes no longer working together.

I have seen several variations of this issue but NO solutions.
I work with iMovie almost every day; up until a month ago, all four (iMovie, Garage Band, iPhoto and iTunes) worked together perfectly.
iMovie no longer asks to make thumbnails of the videos in iPhoto when opening iMovie.
When opening the iphoto media browser, I am told to open iPhoto..
When opening the itunes media browser in iMovie, I get the same message "open itunes..."
I have opened those apps and iMovie is not recognizing that they are open.
    Garageband no longer recognizes iTunes - again, I am getting the message to "open iTunes";
Last night I discovered that iTunes no longer offers me the option of syncing selected iPhoto albums to my iPhone and iPad; the only option I have is to sych my entire iPhoto Library file.
I have posted these issues in iMovie and iPhoto forums and always am given a workaround but no solution; or I am told to ask the quesiton in another forum. I am posting THIS in all of the forums, so please do not suggest that I need to go to another forum.
I have searched all similar threads and found others who are having the same issue but seem to never be given a solution.
I have found temporary work arounds (exporting photos from iPhoto as slideshows and then importing them into iMovie; creating a Loop in Garageband which I export to iTunes to my "playlist" which is THEN recognized by Garageband and can be used in iMovie.
Any help for this will be greatly appreciated.

    Try the following:
Delete the following two preference files from your Home/Library/Preferences folder:
    com.apple.iApps.plist
    com.apple.iApps.lockfile
Launch iPhoto and then iMovie and check the Media Browser again.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

  • The iphoto and itunes will not open please help

on my Mac G5 the iphoto and itunes will not open can anyone help

Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at the top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
Then, hold the Option key down when trying to open iPhoto, does it ask where it's Library is? Or what exactly happens?

  • Manually migrating iPhoto and iTunes from Snow Leopard to Lion..

    Hi all,
I received a shiny new iMac yesterday and in my haste to get it up and running, I began to run the migration assistant on wi-fi.  Unfortunately, my 2006 macbook model is so old that my firewire cables don't actually fit the firewire port on the back of the iMac!!
11 hours later, there was still 40 hours left to go.  At this point I manually quit the migration assistant. Partly because I have to work and to work I need to use a computer and partly because I realised that I don't want all the old crud from my previous system.. all I want is my iTunes (songs, apps, playlists etc) and my iPhoto to migrate.
The original admin account that the migration assistant was going to replace was still there.  Everything seems to be working fine... I did a quick repair of disk permissions and all seems fine.   So, I think I flirted with danger by quiting the migration assistant, but danger doesn't seem to have flirted back.
I've searched high and low on the web and I can't find any advice on migrating just your iPhoto and iTunes from Snow Leopard to Lion.  I did read a post somewhere (relating to a migration to Leopard) where someone wrote that, for iPhoto, you simply had to replace your iPhoto Library in your pictures folder on the destination machine and then simply start iPhoto.  iPhoto would upgrade the databases etc and all would be fine in the world.  I cannot find a post online that suggests that this is also the case for Lion.
Can anyone here give me some hints on how to manually migrate the iPhoto and iTunes libraries over (and still preserve playlists in iTunes, albums/events in iPhoto etc)?
I figure that I cannot be the only person in the world who wants a "fresh start" on their machine, with the exception of iPhoto and iTunes.

Resident apple gurus at work have advised me to use the migration assistant and plug an ethernet cable between machines.
I'll give this a go and then go through the process of removing and cleaning up whatever old data I can.. but if someone posts a response to this question for me, I'll happily roll back in time-machine and go again in a cleaner way. :-)

  • Thinking about storing my iPhoto and iTunes on a NAS Drive

    Hi,
I am thinking about buying a LaCie Network Space MAX NAS Drive and I just wanted to know if anyone else is using one and can provide some insights or advice. I have a the following set up:
    - Macbook pro
    - Macbook air
    - Apple TV
    - Airtport Extreme
    - 2 x iPhones
    - iPhoto album over 150Gb
    - iTunes library over 800Gb
I have been running the iPhoto and iTunes off a 1.5tb USB WD external hard drive attached to the Airport USB. It has been working but has been slow but a few days ago the drive became corrupt. I have been able to recover the data but I am now looking at other options for storing iPhoto and iTunes externally.
I can't help but think I am not the only person in this situation. I find managing these large data libraries really annoying and I think apple should be offering a better solution to this problem. I think most peoples' iTunes and iPhoto libraries are too big or getting too big to run on a portable computer's internal hard drive. Anyway that is my moan for this post.
Does anyone have any ideas on a good set up for this situation? And if you are using a LaCie Network Space MAX drive is it working for you?

Same exact problem in my case... thinking same Lacie Network Space could help...
    Any idea ?

  • Is there a way for my macbook air (running Lion) to access an external hard drive on my Imac (running snow leopard) specifically for Iphoto and itunes?

Is there a way for my macbook air (running Lion 10.7.2) to access an external hard drive on my Imac (running snow leopard 10.6.8) specifically for Iphoto and itunes?

Yes. For those two applications specifically there is sharing. This presumes both computers are on and connected to the same network.
In iPhoto, enable sharing by (on the iMac) going to the iPhoto menu > Preferences > Sharing > check Share my photos. You can either share the entire library or only selected albums. Now on your MacBook Air, in iPhoto, go to the same preference pane and select Look for shared photos.
iTunes has something similar. In the iTunes menu > Preferences > Sharing > check Share my library on my local network. On the other computer, look in the left column for SHARED and select the iMac. You can now play that music on the MacBook Air.
There are other ways to share files but for those two applications this is the simplest way.
    Best of luck.

  • How to transfer iphoto and itunes libraries from NAS back to MacBook Pro

I recently upgraded my MBP hard drive, and decided I'd like to move my iphoto and itunes libraries back to my local drive from my Synology NAS. I thought this would be easily achieved by copying the libraries from the NAS and pasting them in the desired locations in the MBP, as I did to get them to the NAS in the first place. This will not work.
First off, when I try a simple copy and paste through finder, the transfer gets about half way through and suddenly stops with  "You can't copy "iPhoto Library" because it has the same name as another item in the destination volume, and that volume doesn't distinguish between upper- and lowercase letters in filenames".
This occurs even if there is no Iphoto directory currently on the MBP.
I contacted Synology, and they attempted to have me use a windows transfer protocol to transfer the libraries, but when transferring this way I am stopped half way through with an "Error -8084" code.
I am aware that the MBP is formatted with MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and that the NAS is formatted differently, but there must be some way to get this back.
My itunes library contains all my family's ipad, and iphone back ups, in addition to around 35 gb of music. Additionally, I don't want to lose Event info in Iphoto.
    Please help!
    Thank you

  • IPhoto and iTunes not fully syncing?

I am running up to date versions of iPhoto and iTunes software on OS 10.8.2. I cannot fully sync my photo library (around 5000 pictures) with iTunes (which then impacts iPhone 5 and ATV2). Has anyone got any advice to help solve?

Until recently, all my photo's in iPhoto were syncing perfectly to iTunes and I could selectively decide what was further synced to my iPhone and to my Apple TV2 - I could select the whole photo library or all photo's within one or many specific events without error.
I recently upgraded to iPhone 5 (from 4) and noticed that I am not syncing all my photos from iPhoto to iTunes. If I select the entire library, it doesn't take all of the photo's from the library. If I choose selectively certain events, not all photo's in the specified event were syncing to iTunes (1 out of 25 photos in one event for example would get synced to iTunes yet all photo's in other events would be synced). If I deselect the tyick box for photo's in the iPhoto to iTunes sync, switch every thing off and then try again, the errors seen previously are repeating - that is, if the event has 25 photo's, still the one gets synced and the other 24 don't.
Whatever is in iTunes photo library will onward sync to iPhone 5 and ATV2 without a problem. The error is therefore between iPhoto and iTunes but I don't know how to fix it. I don't receive any error messages whatsoever, I discovered the discrepancy when trying to find a specific photo for my wall paper on my new iPhone.
Sorry for the waffle but I hope this is a better description of my problem. Thanks for any help you can give.

  • How do iPhoto and iTunes libraries connect to iMovie?

I'm still having trouble with iMovie '08 being unable to "see" or show still photos or sounds from the iPhoto and iTune libraries. It does not seem to even know those libraries exist.
Can someone at least tell me how iMovie normally connects to those libraries? What file tells it where to look?

In iMovie 11, there is a Preferences file called com.Apple.iApps.plist. If you move this preferences file to the trash, it will reset the links to iTunes and iPhoto. I haven't had iMovie 08 for several years, but I assume there is a similar preferences file for iMovie 08.
In general, the steps would be...
    Close iMovie, iPhoto, and iTunes.
In the Finder, find this file and move it to the trash. Empty the Trash.
    Restart iTunes. Restart iPhoto.
    Restart iMovie.
It should be in the Home/Library/Preferences folder.  (Macintosh HD/<Your user name>/Library/Preferences/)

    Hi Spookola,
I don't know how that could have happened. Go through the folders for the rolls and separate the 2005 rolls from the 2006 rolls, then import the 2006 rolls.

  • Navigation of iPhoto and iTunes not possible by Remote Control

Navigation of iPhoto and iTunes not possible by Remote Control after upgrading from Leo to Mountain Lion. I miss this functionality because it was nice to see may photoes directly on the iMac-Screen as well to hear the Music on my Radio. No chance to implement this function again by a newer upgrade?

    Answer to captfred and mende1:
I am using already AppleTV, but only for streaming into a different room on to my TV - it is great!
But I like to hear all my iTunes Music by LineOut Cable from iMac to my Stereo Device.
I can activate music titles in iTunes by Apple Remote, but only for jumping from Title to Title and not back to Albums or Playlists etc.

  • Iphoto and itunes files disappeared when i upgraded to os mavericks. How can i access these files?

iphoto and itunes files disappeared when i upgraded to os mavericks. How can i retrieve these files? Time machine is not opening my backup files on an external Lacie HD.

Apple keeps books for a short time (used to be 40 days. I've not seen a recent time frame)
    What version did you have?
Books do nor exist except in the iPhoto database so you can not "find" a book vista TM. You restore a previous library (be sure NOT to overwrite your current library) and switch to it

  • HELP! Deleted iPhoto and iTunes Libraries by changing name?!?!?

    Hey guys,
My friend had two user accounts on his Mac. One was "Chris" and one was "Katie". The only one that was ever used was "Chris". Since his wife used the Mac a lot more than he did he thought it would be funny to change the user name from "Chris" to "Katie's Big Mac". The short name was not changed at all. He then deleted "Katie". I guess that deleted all the iPhoto and iTunes Libraries. But that was it.
Does any one know why it did this? I told her to look under Users: Chris: Music: iTunes: iTunes Music: and all of the old files were there. She dragged one of the files over and dropped it in iTunes to copy it over and then she went back to get more and they all disappeared from the folder iTunes Music. I didn't tell her to do this she did it on her own.
The iPhoto Library is totally empty though. Does anyone know why this happened and how to fix it?
    Thanks in advance.

Okay it's fixed now. All he did was change the old names back to the way they were, recreate "Katie", and it all came back. He had to reload the libraries for iPhoto and iTunes but that was it. All other prefs are fine. But the weird part is that now the files that were in Chris are now in Katie. Thanks for your help.
