Iphoto and Leopard upgrade?

I just had Leopard installed. I backed up my hard drive and photo library but can't find iPhoto anymore.
Is iPhoto hiding somewhere on my system, or do I need to by iLife 08?

iPhoto is not part of the OS - it's part of iLife.
If it came supplied with your Mac - you will be able to re-install it with the original restore disks. Insert disk one and there should be an option to install bundled software.
Of course, you can just upgrade to the latest version...

I downloaded the new iphoto and the upgrade
Does that mean, you are running iPhoto 9.6 on MacOS X 10.10.1 Yosemite? Or are you using an older MacOS X? "New" iPhoto is relative and depends on your system.
If I click on update the program shuts down. How can I fix this?
Does "shut down" mean it crashes?  Then post please the error log from the error panel here - copy and paste the report into your next answer (the first 50 lines should suffice)
Where is your iPhoto Library (Mediathek) stored? Have you moved it to an external drive, or is it still in your Pictures folder (the order "Bilder")?

  • IPhoto and Leopard

Since installing Leopard, iPhoto fails to open. The error message states that the "library not found". The iPhoto library is still in my document folder and when copied to another computer, opens just fine. How do I fix this?

Quit iPhoto and restart it with the option key depressed and navigate to your library when it asks you for your library

  • Get new restore disks if Mac shipped with 10.4.x and Leopard upgrade DVD?

    Hi,
I am new to the forum and I have searched the topics for quite some time but have not quite found an answer so please forgive any redundancy.
I have a 9 month old MacBook Pro which shipped with a Leopard upgrade disk. I have tried to do a clean install using the 10.4 disk and then the upgrade disk again but I keep getting an error on install saying the disk is corrupted. I think it may have been scratched.
I am wondering if there is a way to get a Leopard restore disk without purchasing a retail Leopard? When I called Apple the lady said she did not know and they would call me back in 48 hrs. I have not heard yet and am wondering if anyone has any experience with this. Thank you very much!

    Hi,
Thanks for your response. I have tried repartitioning and zeroing the drive and I ran my TechTools Pro drive checker (which also repairs) to make sure it was not the drive. I am sure it means the disk and not the HD as well. I was hoping not to have to buy Leopard. One would think that if Apple already gave you Leopard once they should be able to give you newer restore disks. Anyway thank you very much for your input. If there are any other ideas I am all ears. Thank you!
Sometimes a copy of a disk is "better" than a scratched or damaged original.
You might copy the install disk. Copying reads and rereads marginal areas on disks and sometimes results in a disk that works when the original does not.
    It's worth a try.

  • Movies iPhoto - Snow Leopard upgrade

Hello. I have just installed Snow Leopard on my Mac & I use iPhoto '08. I have tried playing videos that I captured using my iPhone but they aren't playing. Does anyone know why? I have had a search on here and someone said to go back into the snow leopard install folder and install the QuickTime 7 which I have done but after I restarted my machine the videos still don't play.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Are you able to play the videos with either of the Quicktime Players? Are you able to play any movie files other than your iPhone? If the problem is limited to iPhone video files only then I would suggest you also pose your questions in the iPhone forum and/or the Quicktime forum. iPhoto 08 only passes off the video files to Quicktime for playing. So it's more a QT issue.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
NOTE: this is not the same as routinely backing up your entire iPhoto library folder to protect your photos. It only protects the loss of your organizational efforts that the database file contains.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

  • QuickUpload to Snapfish after iPhoto 08/Leopard upgrade

My wife and I have been using Snapfish for years both on Windows and Macs. The Quickupload tool has always worked flawlessly through Safari. 2 weeks ago, I upgraded our MacBook Pro to Leopard and iPhoto '08. Now all the pics "fail" when uploaded through QuickUpload. However, they do upload using the one-by-one method (which is not practical). This is a pretty big deal for us since we probably upload 50-100 family pics a week for family back east.
Any ideas? Can I reload the QuickUpload plugin? Any advice is much appreciated!!

The Snapfish plugin is called "Photo Center Plugin.plugin" and it's in the main Library->Internet Plugins folder (not the user Library). I am not using iPhoto 8 yet - but the plugin works fine with iPhoto 6 under Leopard. I'm not sure why it would matter which version of iPhoto one was using though - this is a plugin for browsers, not iPhoto.
Note - it took a couple of tries to install the plugin on my G5 running 10.4.11 - not sure why. I had to download the thing several times and retry before it finally worked. On my MBP running Leopard, it was fine.
BTW - if you want to look to see if Safari sees the plugin, with Safari open, go to the Help menu and click on the Installed Plugins option. You'll get a nice long list.
Hope this helps. (Please let us know if it does!)

  • IMac and Leopard upgrade

hello, I have been seriously considering installing the new Leopard OS X on my iMac, I see Apple is not selling it anymore on their website, just Snow Leopard? (and to get that you need the orig. Leopard) so I found it on the site: everythingoutlet.com, which seems pretty reputable, but that stats say that I need 9GB of hard disk space??? And I don't think I have this. All my iMac details are listed below in the 'other details' section. Do I have a Mac that can run Leopard? If you need more info. just ask. Thanks!

    Hello amelia:
If I read your profile correctly, you have an Intel-based Mac. That Mac will run OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard). There is no need to buy OS X 10.5 (Leopard) first. I would recommend you buy what Apple calls the +"Mac Box Set."+
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC209Z/A?fnode=MTY1NDAzOA&mco=Nzk2MTg0Ng
That will give you all of the latest software (including iLife 09 - which includes a really good release of iPhoto). I strongly suggest that you not try to use the upgrade disk (which is for people who already have OS X 10.5). That would violate license agreements and you would not get the other software).
Be sure you have at least 10-15% of your hard drive free at all times (performance issues if you do not). I would be amazed if your Mac did not have plenty of HD space.
If you move to OS X 10.6, I also suggest you acquire an external Hard Drive. In that way, you can use Time Machine - a really easy way to regularly (and automatically) back your system up.

  • Manually migrating iPhoto and iTunes from Snow Leopard to Lion..

    Hi all,
I received a shiny new iMac yesterday and in my haste to get it up and running, I began to run the migration assistant on wi-fi.  Unfortunately, my 2006 macbook model is so old that my firewire cables don't actually fit the firewire port on the back of the iMac!!
11 hours later, there was still 40 hours left to go.  At this point I manually quit the migration assistant. Partly because I have to work and to work I need to use a computer and partly because I realised that I don't want all the old crud from my previous system.. all I want is my iTunes (songs, apps, playlists etc) and my iPhoto to migrate.
The original admin account that the migration assistant was going to replace was still there.  Everything seems to be working fine... I did a quick repair of disk permissions and all seems fine.   So, I think I flirted with danger by quiting the migration assistant, but danger doesn't seem to have flirted back.
I've searched high and low on the web and I can't find any advice on migrating just your iPhoto and iTunes from Snow Leopard to Lion.  I did read a post somewhere (relating to a migration to Leopard) where someone wrote that, for iPhoto, you simply had to replace your iPhoto Library in your pictures folder on the destination machine and then simply start iPhoto.  iPhoto would upgrade the databases etc and all would be fine in the world.  I cannot find a post online that suggests that this is also the case for Lion.
Can anyone here give me some hints on how to manually migrate the iPhoto and iTunes libraries over (and still preserve playlists in iTunes, albums/events in iPhoto etc)?
I figure that I cannot be the only person in the world who wants a "fresh start" on their machine, with the exception of iPhoto and iTunes.

Resident apple gurus at work have advised me to use the migration assistant and plug an ethernet cable between machines.
I'll give this a go and then go through the process of removing and cleaning up whatever old data I can.. but if someone posts a response to this question for me, I'll happily roll back in time-machine and go again in a cleaner way. :-)

  • Can't find Events in the Leopard upgraded iphotos?

I just installed Leopard but I don't think it installed my iphoto properly. It still says I have version 6 when I click on about iphoto. Is this normal? I can't find Events either which is one of the new features on iphotos. Anyone else had this problem?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Installing Leopard does not upgrade the iLife application becuase they are not part of a system upgrade disk. Therefore you still have the same iLife versions that you had with Tiger. You either have to purchase a iLife disk or a new computer to get iLife 08.

  • Iphoto 4 oversaturating after Leopard upgrade

Ever since I upgraded to Leopard, when cropping photos in iphoto 4, the color automatically adjusts and over saturates, especially the red. If I undo the crop, the color goes back to normal. I was hoping it was just on screen but my prints turned out horrible. Any ideas on why this is happening or what I can do to correct it?

reinstalled iLife08 and both iPhoto and iMovie icons came up on the bar. Appears to be there now and opens. CD looks fine but hearing a nice hum when installing like an abnormal spinning of the hardware.
Thanks for the update. If you know of any issues with the original iMax core duo white, drop me a note as I do not believe it something tied to hardware and not the disk. The disk is a family pack upgrade and have never had the problem on another machine....
Good day and thanks for the thread.

  • IPhoto '08 and Leopard

I am using an iMac G5 with 1.5 GB DDR SDRAM, 160 GB Hard Drive and recently upgraded to OS 10.5.1 Leopard. I am using iPhoto '08 Version 7.1.1 (354) and currently have just over 3000 photos (8.2 GB) in the library.
When I try to scroll in the photo viewing window when in "Photos" mode in the source list it is extremely slow, erratic and jerky. Also when in this mode even moving the "Zoom in/Zoom out" slider is slow and jerky. I don't check the "Outline" or "Drop Shadow" in the prefs.
On the other hand when I go to "Events" mode in the source list everything seems to be smooth and fairly rapid, certainly by comparison. I am puzzled and very frustrated by this especially since I went to the trouble and expense to upgrade my memory to 1.5 GBs. Is Leopard the culprit or is it my latest version of iPhoto? Or both?

    jerrydav:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I don't think it's the amount of memory that's the culprit. 1.5G is plenty. Is iPHoto slow in opening? Do you open into the Photo section with all thumbnails displayed? If so, select show Event names and close all of the events before shutting down iPhoto. Control click on of of the event triangles to open or close all at the same time. Having all the thumbnails open and fairly large can slow iPhoto a bit.
How much free space do you have on your boot drive? Too little can definitely affect performance, not only of iPhoto but the system and other applications. Report back with how much free space you have.

  • IMessage and iPhoto Issues with Upgrade

    Hi,
I've just upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard and then Mountain Lion. All thats gone fine, I've put more RAM in and the upgrades have all gone smoothly. However I'm having two difficulties that I just can't seem to work out where I'm going wrong.
Firstly I want to use the contacts on my iPhone 5 for my iMac to use iMessage. It's all set up, however not all my contacts have been synced from my iPhone, only certain ones? and some just say the mobile number on my iMac and not the contacts name?
Secondly, I had iPhoto etc on my iMac when I bought it with Leopard operating system, now I've upgraded I've lost this, how do I go about getting it back? I've tried to put the original disks that my iMac came with in but I can't seem to load just the software back on. I know with newer Macs you can now download through the app store, but I have a 2007 iMac so don't have iPhoto on my account.
I'd appreciate any advice on this as I can't seem to find anything online thats helped so far. Thanks!

    Hi,
If you use an iCloud Apple ID then the Contacts list should sync across all devices.
I would check the iPhone has the Name of the contact as well as the Number.
At first thought I would have suggested a Time Machine restore of the missing app.
However many Apple Apps can get their Updates when the OS is updated.
My iPhoto version is version 9.4.1
If you only have access to an much earlier version it may not work in Mountain Lion to then get updates for it.

  • Compatibility of iPhoto 4 and Leopard

I am still using iPhoto 4 (4.0.3), and have moved to OS 10.5.1. The discussion in a previous thread seemed to suggest that these two are compatible, and in general that seems to be true. But is it official?
I am seeing one strange effect in iPhoto since I upgraded to Leopard. If I select more than one photo and click on "email", I receive a message "Mail got an error: can't get paragraph 8 of content of outgoing message id 100043968 (different id every time, always 9 digits). Invalid index." This is a singularly uninformative message to me. And only one of the photos appears in the created email.
Does anybody have any ideas about this? Is it perhaps evidence of an incompatibility of these two softwares, or is something else going on? And is there anything I can do to track down the cause and fix it? Has there been an up-issue to iPhoto 4 beyond 4.0.3 that might help?
    Thanks for any suggestions.

    Thanks eww.
At least I know where I am. For the number of times I need to do it, for the short term I can convert photos one at a time and then drag them all onto one email.
And yes, I expect to upgrade iLife sometime in the foreseeable future. It's just that it isn't a budget priority just now.
    Regards, Paul.

  • Leopard and IPHoto and Quicken

After upgrading to Leopard, my IPhoto pictures were gone. I imported some from a disc and half of them are black squares which if you click on them, they turn into the picture. Is there a Apple fix for this yet? Also my Quicken-05 was fine the first night and now it is frozen - any ideas? I even found the original disc for both IPhoto and Quicken and downloaded them but no luck. Do I have to remove the applications first? As for the Time Machine - everything slowed to a crawl and/or froze!

There are two ways to share iPhoto, depending on what you mean by 'share'.
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account. In that account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.
If you want the other user to have the same access to the library as you: to be able to add, edit, organise, keyword etc. then:
    Quit iPhoto in both accounts
Move the iPhoto Library Folder to an external HD set to ignore permissions. You could also use a dmg.
(Some people have had success putting the library in the Users/ Shared folder. If you do this make sure the file permissions are set to allow read/write access to everyone.)
In each account in turn: Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting dialogue, select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new library location. From that point on, this will be the default library location. Both accounts will have full access to the library, in fact, both accounts will 'own' it.
However, there is a catch with this system and it is a significant one. iPhoto is not a multi-user app., it does not have the code to negotiate two users simultaneously writing to the database, and trying will cause db corruption. So only one user at a time, and back up, back up back up.
    Regards
    TD

  • IPhoto not present after Leopard upgrade

iMac upgrade to Leopard fails to install iPhoto
Did an upgrade with format old data. Install appeared to be completed successfully. Went to import some photos and iPhoto was not present. Had installed the iWork suite as well and was under the impression iPhoto was on the OS disk.
