IPhoto and old photo app

I downloaded IPhoto and I also have the old photo app on the Iphone 5c.  I now have 2 sets of photos because I can't delete the old photo app.  Is there another solution other than deleting IPhoto and just using the old photo app?

I now have 2 sets of photos because I can't delete the old photo app.
You need both apps - the Photos.app and iPhoto.app; they work together.
Installing iPhoto has not duplicated your photos. iPhoto is only showing you all photos on your iPhone, i.e. in the Photos.app and lets you edit and organize them. But iPhoto will not copy the photos; they are still in your Camera Roll and managed by the Photos.app.
See the iPhoto Help:  http://help.apple.com/iphoto/iphone/2.0/?handbuch#blnka7d353af
All of the photos and video clips in the Photos app on your device automatically appear in iPhoto. You can also import photos into iPhoto from other devices and computers, other apps on the same device, or a digital camera (if you're using iPad).
Also, some things are not possible in iPhoto. You still need the Photos.app to manage your Camera Roll.

  • I do not understand iPhoto and/or Photo Stream, help me?

I do not understand iPhoto to say the least. I've imported my photos which I have stored on an external networked hard drive. However after they've been uploaded to the iPhoto library, I've got NUMEROUS duplicates which seem to be showing as different events even though they are the same photo.
Another thing is that in Photo Stream which I have turned on my iPhone 4, I seem to have photos showing up in there that have nothing to do with a photo I've taken on my iPhone or manually dragged them to Photo Stream. They are mostly some old photos that I've NEVER had on my iPhone at all. How did they get there. My photos that I've taken with the phone or saved on my Iphone are there just like I was expecting but most of these photos, and this is while I'm on my iMac, are just a bunch of random photos. I don't even know how to delete these photos in Photo Stream to try and start over.
Could someone help me understand iPhoto and/or Photo Stream, these are two different questions please!

Is there a specific file that iPhoto makes and stores on my computer or the external drive that has the iPhoto library? I want to delete all instances of it and try reloading my library.
Also, how do I reload or start fresh a Photo Stream library on my computer? What's weird is that the photos on my iMac are not what's on my iPhone. I mean I have the ones that are on my iPHone are within the iPhoto's Photo Stream but then there is also a bunch of other photos that I have no idea how they got there.

What won't open? Photoshop, or the photos that you "stored in iPhoto"?

Trying to sync new photos from iphoto without having the old photo synced on ipad2 but when I select sync from iphoto the old photos are already included. How do I stop itunes from preselecting photos? Already tried selecting "selected albums, events, and faces, and automatically include" then I enter "no Events" with no success the photos still are being synced along with the new photos. I want to be able to add new photo and remove old photos. Please help this has taken a lot of my time trying to figure it out.

If I knew the answer I would have given it - but since it is not an iPhoto question I suggested
You might try the iPad forum - or the iTunes forum - this really is not an iPhoto question

Recently I downloaded photos from an sd card. When the download was complete all photos were loaded in a random fashion completely out of order. This is the first time it has ever happened this way. downloaded same card to iPhoto and all photos were in order. Help needed. Am working on a job that needs immediate attention and HDR images out of order are impossible to deal with.

Thanks for your help. The out of numerical order comes before the actual import begins. It happens when first uploaded to Lightroom and prior selection of of photos to imported to the catalog.

  • HT4108 Why does an iPad (1st gen) and the Photos app using VGA adapter

Why does an iPad (1st gen) using iOS 5.1 and the Photos app not send a single photo to a projector while a slideshow is sent photo by photo?

I am not 100% sure, but i believe the iPad only does mirroring when connecting with AppleTV. AV cables will output audio and video out the bottom of the iPad (30-pin connector) to a TV/monitor, but the iPad screen itself will only show video controls (play/pause, FF, RW, Done, Progression bar).  If your cables say otherwise I am interested to know what brand they are and where you got them. If you are not getting any video at all the cables are probably not Apple approved and dont have the special chip in the 30-pin connector that allows for video transition.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
This is normal. OS X doesn't come with iLife apps, so you have to reinstall them after reinstalling Mac OS X.
If your Mac came without DVDs or you purchased it after July 2011, you have to install the iLife applications from the Mac App Store. Open the Mac App Store, log in with your Apple ID, go to Purchases and download GarageBand, iMovie and iPhoto free of charge.
If your Mac came with DVDs and you didn't purchase the iLife apps in the Mac App Store, insert the Applications DVD and install the iLife apps. Then, open  > Software Update, and install the latest iLife applications version

There's a system component that 's missing that Photos is trying to use.  You'll need to boot into the Recovery volume (boot with the Command + R keys held down) and reinstall the system.

  • IPhoto Library and new Photos app

What happens to the iPhoto Library when the new Photos app comes along?  Does it automatically get uploaded to iCloud?  I have 34 g/bytes of photos.

    Only 34 gigs?
I can see no way that you will be forced to upload everything to the Cloud. It simply makes no sense for those with hundreds and hundreds of gigs of photos.

  • Iphoto to new photo app help!

With the recent update and the new photo app installed on my imac, I can no longer open up any of my old iphoto libraries that I have backed up on an external hard drive. How do I do this? Iphoto has disappeared so I can no longer do it that way, and i've tried to re-install it but its no longer available on the app store! I want to be able to open up the libraries with the new photo app and so I can save them in this new format to make sure they are not lost. Any help greatly appreciated
    ios. OX Yosemite 10.10.3

    1. iPhoto should still be in your Applications folder. If it's out-of-date:
Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
Install the App from the App Store.
Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.
    2. Photos can also open and migrate libraries on an external that is correctly formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled). To do this simply open them: Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch Photos. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'

  • Delete old iPhotos AND old linked files?

SO I upgraded to 10.10.3 today with the new Photos app.
My old photos configuration was using one library in iPhoto, but almost half of my library , from back when I first upgraded from PC to Mac, were in external folders and iPhoto just linked to the original photos in their external folders.  At the time I didn't understand that iPhoto would manage the library for me.  But it was too much of a hassle to fix, and the old iPhoto wouldn't let me consolidate everything into the library, therefore allowing me to remove my old photos from their external folders.
Now with the new Photos app, I consolidated all my pictures into the library.
I just want to confirm before I screw something up that I can now safely delete my old iPhoto app, the old iPhoto library, and all the old folders that held the original photos as those photos have now been copied into the Photos library.  Correct?

Make a bootable clone or another full backup of your macintosh HD, before you start deleting. You may not be able to ever reinstall iPhoto otherwise, since they have been pulled from the App Store.
If you should discover later, that the migration of your libraries has been faulty and you need to repeat it after repairing your libraries, you will be out of luck.
Remember, it is is just one day after the first release of Photos as version 1.0.  There are very likely some bugs and I would not burn all bridges before the library has been thoroughly tested and you are very confident, that this early Photos release is working well on your Mac.

  • Unable to migrate Iphoto Library to Photos app from an external harddrive?

I have a 1TB external harddrive that contains my 250+ GB IPhoto Library. However, whenever I try to open it up in the new photos app, I get an error saying the library cannot be opened because it is on an unsupported disk format. Apple has a "solution" to this problem, but the means of solving it aren't feasible in my case. I don't have enough space to copy 250GB onto my internal drive, hence why its on an external hard drive.. Does anyone else have a solution?

    Hi Ksevv
As A.Fruit said you will need to quit the photos.app and as well the iPhoto. When you restart the Photos app, hold down the 'alt-option' key (not the Shift-key) and the choose your library from the Photos app in the pop-up window. The path of the library is indicated on the window, so do ensure that you pick your right library in case you have multiple ones. The Photos app, will prepare the import and takes its time, so be patient. Also be aware, that if you have iCloud Photo library activated, this will go against your 5GB free storage, so if you need to store your photos in the iCloud, ensure that you have enough space.
    Hope the above helps.

  • Cheap and worthless photo.app program

How?! How it was possible on to treat the buyer so many devil-may-carely?!
People, for years bought your production, kept the most high points, saved, edited and sorted the photos, and not on 1 gigabyte!
How it was possible, it is simple to take and it is so impudent, without having given even the chance of a choice, to change the program, for the discretion?!
Like, who doesn't want, can choose to himself, something another, we don't care?!
I think, now, the most exact moment, to outdo apple, other leaders and to step in all technologies because apple, on became haughty so many that doesn't put in the account at all, the user and yes to grasp one more kopek (to transfer violently, all to a subscription cloudy (the PAID!) service) to slide the accelerated rates down!
Come round, Dear Jobs isn't present more and to rescue for the second time, you there will be nobody!
Personally I as the buyer, I DEMAND that didn't return opportunity to use that appendix, namely to iphoto which I want and to which me it is more convenient as I paid for it in due time (the program was paid or I fitted into production cost, upon purchase, it is as if free)!
At least, having cleaned possibility of concealment of photos, forced to look for me alternative, this primitive aaplet, under the name photo.app, and to transfer all undesirable, for the general review of a photo, to the third-party carrier, on what by the way, too was necessary, because of you to be spent!!!

  • Import problems iPhoto and other Photo software

    Hi there,
I am a new MacBook Pro owner with Leopard 10.5.1 and iLife 08. Absolutely impressed by the system, but a bit disappointed that importing JPEG formatted photos from files sometimes results in garbled photos in iPhoto and Aperture, even though the originals are simply fine. Tried to used other software like GIMP, but the issue remains.
Is this a known Mac OS X problem? If so, does anyone have a solution for it?
I would be eternally grateful for any help I can get on the issue.
    Lucien

    Hi Terence,
Thanks for answering. The photos have all been stored on my FAT32 formatted external USB 2.0 harddrive that I used with my old XP system. And the majority was taken with a variety of digital cameras (Toshiba, HP and Sony) and some were scanned in with a HP flatbed scanner.
I do not know how to check the color profile of the photos on the Apple system (I am still a newbie) and I did not look at them yet on my old XP system (but I will, but I am not near the system at the moment).
Would the color profile have anything to do with the problem?
    Thanks for your answer!
    Lucien
