IPhoto and OSX 10

Upgraded to OSX 10.8.5 and have consistently updated software as provided
Now having trouble with iPhoto 8.1.2 -- frequent freeze-up, color wheel, etc.  Advice?

Your iPhoto library may need repairing or rebuilding. See Old Toad's post an how to get to the Photo Library First Aid Tools:
Rebuilding iPhoto Library for iPhoto '09 and Earlier
But I'd strongly recommend to upgrade to iPhoto '11, since you are using Mt. Lion.  iPhoto 9.3.2 and later are the only iPhoto versions built for Mt. Lion.
The upgrade to iPhoto '11 is not a free update. You will have to buy iPhoto from the app Store.

  • IPhoto and OsX Lion

I recently was messing around with iPhoto on my Macbook Pro, which is running Lion, and I noticed while I was assigning names to faces on my pictures the main clipboard slightly flashed.  The flash turned out to be my mouse scrolling over the clipboard and anything it scrolled over it flaced the "places" display.  Almost as if the "faces" clipboard was becoming transparent and the "places" was shinning through.  I don't know what kind of an issue this is.  The only other issue I had was my airport assigned itself an IP.  This caused me to reformat, simply because I didn't want to dick with it and I feared I might have had a trojan virus because of a previous warning.  Please somebody shed some light on this topic,  everything I have is up to date and the MacBook is a early 11 release, the new model that came out.  Thank you, I am still learning the ways of the Mac

The latest version of iMovie,  Garageband and I think also iPhoto require Mavericks.    You can instal the ilife '11 applications - if you buy a copy on DVD from for example Amazon.  You will also be able to update them from the App store to the last version compatible with the operating system you are using.
If you purchased Mountain Lion then it should be possible to re-download it from the App Store.  It won't be listed on the mac running Mavericks but I would expect it to be available on the macs running Lion, especially if the harware doesn't support Mavericks.

  • Printing problems with Elements and iPhoto on OSX 10.5.7

I am having problems with printing photos on my printer (Canon iP4000) since getting the new iMac with OSX (10.5.7) and using Photoshop Elements 6 and iPhoto. The Canon printer driver (and all my other data) were copied to my Mac by the techs at the Apple store from which I purchased the iMac. (I previously had a Mac G4 with OSX 10.4.11 Panther.)
Photos that used to come out crystal clear and brilliant on the printer from the G4, now are faint with kind of a white veil. When I try to print in Elements, I get a message that says "Some PostScript specific print settings (Interpolation, Calibration, Encoding) will be ignored since you are printing to a non-PostScript printer." I really have no idea what that means. Anybody?
Text printing comes out fine, both from word processing documents and web pages. I am using the latest printer driver (4.8.3) for the iP4000 (probably 4 years old or so), and there are no new driver downloads available for it. I trashed the Canon software/drivers and reinstalled, to no avail.
Canon Support has been helpful and have made many suggestions, but none has worked. I tried printing with Canon's EasyPhotoPrint app, and the photos print fine. So the problem appears to be a compatibility of the printer with Elements 6 and iPhoto.
Has anyone else had this experience? Does anyone have an opinion if this means I need to get a new printer? If so, any suggestions on a good, moderately priced one for Leopard on the iMac that will definitely work with Elements 6 and iPhoto?

The v4.8.3 driver she has is the latest version Canon has supplied.
Given the driver is working okay from some other applications, there has to be something amiss with the colour management of iPhoto and PSE6.
For iPhoto, as a test I would suggest the Color Options > Color Correction is set to None to see how this impacts the printed image. Then I would try the BJ Standard and ColrSync settings to see how the output is affected.
During the Color Options trial, ensure the Quality & Media > Media Type is set to the appropriate paper type, such as Photo Paper and the Print Mode be set to Top Quality Photo. With regards to the Media Type setting, some of the paper stocks have a profile associated with them. If you use Photo paper but use the Plain setting, then you will get a washed out print.

Yes you can. In iPhoto create a Album with the photos you want in it. You can drag them from your Events folder. In iTunes with your iPad connected go to Photos by cliking on your iPad. You can then select the album or events you want.

  • Even via time machine the new osx lion has deleted all my latest files in iPhoto and will only revert back to an old 2009 backup?

even via time machine the new osx lion has deleted all my latest files in iPhoto and will only revert back to an old 2009 backup?... Help?!

Have you verified that the original files are missing from the Originals/Masters folder?  There are time when the library might appear empty due to a damaged database file but still has the files.  If you can open the library package via the Finder to see if the files are really missing or just can't be seen by iPhoto there are fixes you can try.
If the files are there make a temporary, backup copy of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Using IPhoto 11 9.4.3 and OSX 10.8.5 when I download from my Nikon P1 Coolpix it takes hours. So far I have not been able to download

Using IPhoto 11 9.4.3 and OSX 10.8.5 when I download from my Nikon P1 Coolpix it takes hours. So far I have not been able to download a flipping pic. Please help me ?

    Can you clarify:
it takes hours. So far I have not been able to download a flipping pic
Either it takes hours to download or you are not able to download at all.
How are you trying? Have you tried alternatives? A Card Reader? Different USB Cable? When did you last reformat the camera card?

  • IPhoto 9 (8.1.2 (424) and OSX 10.6.4) will not import jpg's

I purchased and installed iLife '09 yesterday. After downloading the latest software updates to iPhoto 9 (8.1.2 build 424) and OSX (10.6.4) I cannot import jpg's into iPhoto. It says "The file is in an unrecognized format." Under GET INFO, the file kind is "JPEG Image". This same photo imported just fine in iPhoto '08. Obviously, iPhoto '09 is designed to import jpg's. How do I fix this?

Thank you, that worked. I was able to import random jpg's, but NOT able to import any jpg from a scanned picture from my Lexmark X7675. They all failed, but other jpg's imported fine. So the problem is with the scanner. I downloaded the new drivers, but that didn't work. I'll now exit this forum and take up the issue with Lexmark. Thanks for your help.

  • I updated my iPhoto and it now won't open because it says I need osx 10.7.5 to open it?

Mountain Lion won't allow me to save photos from Mail directly to iPhoto (as you could in all other recent OSX).  Tried opening iPhoto and then click/drag each photo onto iPhoto icon on dock (as Help instructed) but the photo will not drag.  Suggestions?

I have real a lot of posts that say to click Command+Option while opening iPhoto and this will open the Photo Library Repair window, but... this is not happening.
Be sure you're holding the correct keys and that you're holding them long enough. Depress them before clicking on iPhoto and don't let go until the menu shows up.
If you don't want to lose those photos, make a back up now. Hopefully it's not too late.

  • Restoring osx from mybook:  will iPhoto and iTunes be there?

My imac hard drive crashed.  I did online restore.  The system does not find the mybook backup via time machine.  I can see mybook and it's contents in disk utility.  If I restore from mybook to Mac OSX Base System in disk utility will iphoto and iTunes be there?  If not, how do I retrieve them?  What is the best way for me to proceed to be fully operational again?  Thank you.

Sounds like the hard drive died. Good thing you have a backup. Unless your backup was on another partition of the same drive. Then that may be gone for good, too.

  • How can I disable iPhoto and use my iPhone / iPad as in Windows?

I really despise iPhoto and I would like to use my iPhone / iPad just like in Windows where I can drag and drop the photos and videos from my iPhone or iPad as if it's an external hard drive in windows.  iPhoto is the only thing I really truly hate about OSX.
    Thanks.

If I understand what you want, maybe these two programs can help:
Transfer items from IOS device - DiskAid
Transfer items from IOS device - Touchcopy

  • How to restore iPhoto and iBooks after clean install?

I need to do a clean erase and reinstall of Yosemite.  How do I preserve my iPhoto and iBooks content and settings after reinstalling those apps?
    Thanks,

I am new to Yosemite and to date have not used Time Machine.  I did find another detailed web site that hopefully will answer your questions - Apple  OSX  and  Time  Machine  Tips.  There is a link on that site titled How Time Machine Works its Magic which is very detailed.  The author of the website was a respected member of this community.  He passed away I believe last year.
