Iphoto and photobooth deleted!! :(

i need help asap!! my mac was saying that my startup disk was getting full, so i decided to delete as many photos as possible. in doing so, i accidentally deleted iphoto and photobooth by moving them to the trash, and emptying it. i need the fastest way possible that won't take up a lot of space on my laptop to get them back. also if anyone knows any ways to free up some space i would appreciate it a lot!
Thanks so much!!

Whoa.
If you're hard disk is getting so full that you're getting messages you have a major crisis and you need to deal with it first.
OS X needs about 10 gigs of hard drive space for normal OS operations - things like virtual memory, temporary files and so on. Without this space your Mac will slow down as the OS hunts for space on the disk, files will be fragmented, also slowing things down, apps will crash and the risk of data corruption - that is damage to your files, photos, music - increases exponentially.
Your first priority is to make more space on that HD. Nothing else can be done until you do.
Purchase an external HD and move your Photos and Music to it. Both iPhoto and iTunes can run perfectly well with the Library on an external disk.

  • IPhoto and PhotoBooth deleted, how can I get them back???

My boyfriend deleted these applications and I finally was brave enough to put the installation disc in (I thought, that everything will be deleted when I use it :D) but I couldn´t find them on it...Tried to download gimp but it wont work...Please help me!!

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
To get PhotoBooth: you're going to need a piece of software called Pacifist. You can use this to extract the relevant software from the Disc. For full instructions see the Pacifist Website.
For iPhoto: Simply choose to install the Bundled Software only.

  • ALL pictures in iPhoto *and* PhotoBooth are gone :(  please help

    Hello,
I have a bit of a dilema here. On 6-27-07 (actually 6-28 cause it was after midnight), my daughter and I were taking pictures in photobooth. I selected the iPhoto icon from the PhotoBooth picture to send a copy of those pictures to iPhoto.
PhotoBooth froze up after doing several of them and wouldn't work. I am trying to remember from memory (which is swiss cheese from the MS), but I think I had to do a hard shut down. When I tried to go to iPhoto, it acted like it was my 1st time using it and it began asking me questions as if I was setting it up for the 1st time. ALL pictures are GONE. Everything in iPhoto and PhotoBooth are GONE I don't know what I did or how (if I can) to fix it.
Can anyone possibly help me? Lots of precious memories gone. I was recently going to read how to do a back-up right before this happened. Now I wish I hadn't gone to sleep that night until I learned how to do it and actually did make a back-up
My husband called Apple and they told him to do something and now that has created approximately 3 copies of random pics and not all of them, or I would just delete the extras. My husband may have done something wrong to have it make extra copies of the pictures it has now, I don't know.
My husband didn't seem like he was happy with the help that he was getting at the time. So, I found my way here again!!! I have been to the discussions boards once before, but I forgot how to get here (serious swiss cheese memory from MS). I have to save ALL websites that I like to my favorites or I should say 'Bookmarks' or I will probably never find it again. <embarassed>
**I will tell you a little about me and the use of my mac....... I have Multiple Sclerosis so my husband purchased the lap top to make it easier for me to get online and not be stuck to one chair which makes me hurt bad. I am new to Mac and have always used a PC.
Anyway, when we purchased it we explained that I would mainly be using it for Internet use and for the pictures that I take (I am disabled, so that is about all I can do but I thoroughly enjoy it), which happens to be more than the average person since I have a new Grandson
Any help that anyone can give me, I would TRULY APPRECIATE!!!!!!
    Thanks,
    New2Him

    Brenda,
    You're quite welcome.
That does sound like your original library. It makes sense to me; your husband was probably told to drag it to the Desktop by the Apple help desk person. Look inside your Pictures folder for the other two iPhoto Library folders. If you don't find them there, do another Finder Search. Click once on a found item in the Search window to see its path at the bottom of that window. That should help you locate those folders.
After you find and rename or delete the other libraries, you will be ready to create a new library. (You might not want to delete those other folders yet - in case some photos are missing from your main library. But if you are sure that nothing in them is original, go ahead and Trash them to free up the space.)
To create a new library, Option-launch iPhoto and click "Create Library." By default it will be located in your Pictures folder and named "iPhoto Library." You can change the name if you want - say, "iPhoto Library New" before you click "Save." A new, empty library will open. Drag the right corner of the window up so that it fills only about half of your screen. Do iPhoto > Preferences > Advanced and make sure that there IS a check in the boxes beside "Copy files to iPhoto Library folder when importing to library" and "Add ColorSync Profile".
On the other half of your screen, open a Finder window. Set it to column view and navigate this path: Desktop/ iPhoto Library/ Originals/ 2007/ (Film Roll folders). It is these Film Roll folders that contain your photos. Select all of the Roll folders and drag them as a group over the iPhoto window until the cursor shows you a green plus symbol. Drop them in the main viewing area of the iPhoto window. iPhoto will indicate to you that it is importing. A film roll will be created for each folder that you dragged. [Tip: if you want an Album to represent each film roll, then drag them to the Source Pane (left column) instead of the main viewing window. This will create an Album and a film roll, both with the same name as the imported folder.]
I have read that the film roll date can be wrong after importing, so you may want to check the dates as you go. Open the Info Pane in the lower left corner of the iPhoto window (click the little i). When you select a Roll, its info will display in the Info Pane. You can edit the Roll's title and date, if you wish.
When the 2007 rolls have all been imported, switch to the Originals/ 2006 folder, select the roll folders, and drag to your iPhoto window. Repeat for each year in your Desktop library.
This will recover your Original, unedited photos in the same film rolls as before. What cannot be saved is your Albums, Slideshows, Books, titles, keywords, ratings, and other metadata. These were contained in the database file that was damaged during the iPhoto hang or subsequent hard shut down.
If you had spent significant time editing your photos, then you may want to have a look in Desktop/ iPhoto Library/ Modified to see if you wish to save any of the edited versions. There is no way to reconnect the edits with their Originals; that info was also stored in the database file. But if you want to import them to your library you may. Be aware that this will cause the appearance of duplication, much like you had in the library your husband created. If you can part with your edited versions, then it is much easier to discard them. (If not, be selective.)
I'll look forward to hearing your progress. Regards,
    Shelly

  • Workflow integration with Aperture or iPhoto, and storage/deletion questions.

I have been using my iPad to download and view photos when I am travelling. I liked the fact that I could delete bad photos or do basic edits like crops and straightens in the "Photos" app and those edits would be saved when I transferred the photos to Aperture. And furthermore, the edits would be shown in Aperture as edits with the ability to revert back to the original or modify those edits later (for example if I wanted to change a crop or fine tune a straighten). This is an example of nearly perfect workflow integration, only problem is that the tools are pretty basic, for example the straighten tool requires an awkward gesture and has no control for fine tuning.
Now when I bought iPhoto for iOS I figured it would be a more advanced version of that except with more complex editing abilities. However, when I make my edits in iPhoto for iOS, no matter how I import my photos onto my mac there seems to always be two different versions of each photo rather than having both the original and the edit combined like when I edit directly in the "Photos" app. And there's no way to fine tune the edits once imported into iPhoto or Aperture like there is when I edit the photos inside of the Photos app. Is this the correct behavior, and if so, is there anyway to make iPhoto for IOS behave more like the Photos app editing mode in terms of workflow integration.
Also, I am unsure how the photos are stored in iPhoto for IOS. If I have a bunch of freshly imported photos in my "Photos" app's film roll, and then I edit them all in iPhoto for iOS, I now have two versions of each photo - one in iPhoto and one in the film roll. If I want to delete some photos to save space, can I delete all of the originals in the Film Roll and just keep the edits in iPhoto until I can sync with my Mac, or will that delete it in both places? Manually saving each edit as a new photo in the Film Roll and then deleting the original is tedious. Is the iPhoto app's library only storing the edited versions while the film roll is only storing the originals? Seems kind of like a weird way to handle things, and very unintuititive for those of us used to either iPhoto or the iOS film roll method of editing.
I'm a fairly advanced user and all of this is pretty confusing to me. It seems like I might just have to ignore iPhoto for iOS and go back to my old method of editing in the Photos app for workflow integration purposes, but I wanted to check to see if I was missing something or doing something wrong first before giving up on iPhoto for iOS.

    Hello Robert. wow, dense prose...
this wil be more transversal.. hope you'll forgive me.
iPhoto has several shortcomings that other people might point out. I'll just mention a few.
when you adjust the image, using the adjustement HUD that floats around just like the one in aperture, you're making destructive pixel changes. True, iP 6 has a way of keeping the original untouched, but the two images will live separate lives (in albums, etc). Furthermore: once you move to the next picture you want to enhance, all the adjustment HUD sliders return to zero. This means that you'll never be able to return to an image and visualize the changes you made to the picture looking at the sliders. You'll have to guess. and restart from scratch.
About quality: the adjustement sliders in Aperture are waaay more subtle. iPhoto sliders impact the image in a very visible way.... as you "touch" will immprove, you might start to feel that adjusting with iPhoto is a bit gross.
File renaming: personnal opinion: don't bother. set your camera to increase numbering always... and if possible choose a meaningful prefix (few cameras allow that, the Nikon D200 does). beyond that, I don't have time for this, and don't need it... keywording images is a much more effective way of making them easier to locate. my own view. others will disagree.
duplicates: lots of people have identified this shortcoming in aperture. considering in version 1.5 they took the time to be able to identify referenced masters in a pretty comprehensive way (using a bunch of data like name+ date/time of capture to reconnect to a lost master), I'd be really surprised if the next major version doesn't fix that.
Aperture accepts to import/reference your iPhoto folder but I don't think the former will see changes made in the latter..?
    just a few ideas.... HTH
    yours

  • I imported a ton of photos from my iPhone into iPhoto and after deleting off phone they're not in iPhoto.... HELP PLEASE!

I have an iphone 5S, using version 7.0.4. I had a TON of photos on my camera roll which was taking up space so this evening I synced and chose to import all 600 photos into iphoto (version 9.5.1). It took a while to import all the photos as expected and seemed to be slowing counting down during the import. At the end it told me all the photos had been sucessfully imported, showed thumbnails (or similar) on a roll of them all and asked if I wanted to delete the photos from my iphone. As I was doing this due to a space issue I of course said yes. The annoying thing is that before choosing to delete I clicked on a random photo to import it just to check it was infact already imported. I had the message box telling me it had been imported and did I want a duplicate, apply to all duplicates etc. So I thought it safe to delete off my phone.
Once they were deleted, I now can't find them ANYWHERE on my iphoto. Please someone help me, surely they are somewhere? I really hope so, i have some precious photos special once in a lifetime events with my children. Grateful for any help!

It should. So they aren't shown in the Last Import smart album, right? Try the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - Run Option #4, Rebuild Database, followed by Option #1 if needed.

  • If I create a smart folder in iPhoto, and then delete it, are the pictures gone?

I am still trying to figure iPhoto out. I just created a "Smart Folder" and it imported some of my photos. I decided to delete that folder. Did that delete the pictures or are they still somewhere else in iPhoto or on my computer? Thanks!

    several issues with your question
1 - there is no such thing as a smart folder in iPhoto
2 - folders in iPhoto can not hold photos and it is not possile to import photos into them
3 - there are smart albums - deleting a smart album has no effect on the photos - the "contents" of the smart album are simply pointers to the photos in your library that meet the criteria - deleting the album has no effect on the photos themselves
4 - as the contents of a smart album is the photos that meets the criteria it is no possible to import photo into a smart album
5 - it is helpful to know what version of iPhoto you have
So please ask with correct terms since we can not see you or your computer and can only help based on wha tyou tell us

  • Iphoto and Revel: Deleting photos from Revel on iPad.

If I delete photos in Revel will the original photos in iPhoto be deleted???

Thanks for your reply Pattie. I eventually figured this one out. However, my other question is regarding how I accidentally deleted a photo and then Revel wouldn't upload it again. I even tried renaming the photo and dragging it to my desktop. Revel said that it was a duplicate file and could not be uploaded. What doesn't make sense to me is that I deleted the photo from my library, not just an album, so where was Revel seeing the duplicate photo? I don't get it - have you come across this before?
My question was how do I upload the photo again?
Luckily, after having downloaded the Revel application to my laptop, the photo WOULD finally upload after dragging the original photo into the Revel app. However - just to let you know - it would NOT upload the photo, and continued to give me the "duplicate file" error, every time I tried to upload it to Revel in my browser (on Safari). Like I said, It would ONLY upload to Revel AFTER I downloaded the app to my laptop and used that. Drove me insane because it didn't make sense to me!!
    But now you know.

  • Apple Installed a New Hard Drive ... they left off iPhoto and PhotoBooth

My hard drive on my MACBOOK went bad. I have applecare so I got a new drive installed on my Macbook but I just got it back and there's no photobooth or iphoto applications that were originally there when I bought this macbook.
    Whats the deal?
I know iLife has iPhoto but what about photobooth? Where do I find that app?

    Hello Dallas:
Talk to the people who installed the new drive. You should be able to get back what you originally had.

  • I've lost Iphoto and have deleted the original files - help!!

I have just bought a new WD My Book Studio external hard drive to store all my photo's and free up space on my imac. I moved all the files to the EHD checked to see they were there - checked my back up other EHD to see that they were there then deleted them. I have just come back to view the pics on my WD EHD and all I have is a blank page with a turned down corner called iphoto labraryand no folder - this is the same on my other back up EHD. When I try to open them it says there is no application to open them with. Have I lost all my photo's? 354gb (the info on the page says theat amount is there) and how do I get them back? The iphoto icon at the bottom of my desktop has turned into a question mark too.....Please help!! Thanks you My Mac is OSX Version 10.9.2

What format are these external drives?
It sounds like you have deleted the iPhoto Application.
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
    2. Download it from the App Store to reinstall It's on your Purchases List* there.
For older versions that have been installed from Disk you'll need these additional steps:
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 or later they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
*Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4928
One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

  • Deleting a picture in iPhoto AND the file in the finder at once

How can I delete a picture in iPhoto and also delete the file of that picture in the finder in one step? In iTunes the program asks the question if the real file should be deleted also.

If you're running a Managed library then put the pic in the iPhoto trash and empty it. Note to do this you have to be viewing in an Event or Photos view, not in an album.
If you're running a Referenced Library, you can't. When you elected not to have iPhoto manage the files on import, you also elected not to have it manage the files on deletion.
Are you running a Managed or a Referenced Library?
A +Managed library+, is the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing
A +Referenced Library+ is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing because you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.

I updated my iPhoto and now I am organizing and deleting some photos however it does not delete.
I tried cutting it and it went to trash in iPhoto, and tried clearing the trash bin and it does not do anything.
I also tried in the General tab to delete a photo and it freezes.
It must be a bug on the latest update.
    Any thoughts?

Oppps. just cheked and open the program while online and it finally worked.

  • How to delete photos from iPhoto and hard drive at the same time.

I need to remove some files from my iMac G5 in order to free up some space. I have some photos on my machine that I would like to delete. Is there a setting I can change so that I completely remove a photo from my machine when I delete the iPhoto thumbnail? If not, what is the best way to remove photos from my machine, and not leave thumbnails in iPhoto to photos that no longer exist on my machine etc. I'm using iLife 08 and the most recent version of Leopard on a third generation iMac G5.

To remove file from iPhoto and the HD simply put the files in the iPhoto trash and then go iPhoto Menu -> Empty trash.
This works if you're using iPhoto in the default setting, where the files are copied to the Library on import. If, however, you have a referenced library, you'll need to trash the files in your own folder structure yourself.

  • How to delete photo's from both Iphoto and source (external HD) at the same time

I've seen a few postings on this but none seem to answer the quetion.  Sorry if this is a duplicate and I coudn't find the answer.
I have an external HD with over 4GB of pictures in various folders and subfolders.  I would like to import one folder at a time and go through the photo's using iPhoto to choose which ones I want to keep and which ones I don't.  If I come accross a picture I don't like I would like to delete it in iPhoto and at the same time have it deleted from my external HD.  I have tried the following with no success:
    1. Import photo's to iPhone and delete photo's I don't want.  I did this in the photo's view, not events or albums.
    2. After deleting the photo's I empited the iPhoto recyling bin which then sends the photo's to my Macbook pro recycle bin
    3. I then emptied the macbook pro recyle bin.
From what I've read this is how you're supposed to be able to delete photo's permantently form you HD or External HD.  The photo's I delete never end up getting erased from my external HD though.  So now I'm still stuck with a back up of a bunch of pictures I don't want on my external HD.  They are gone from iPhoto but this doesn't help or avoid taking up space.  This only cleans up iPhoto library but not my actual external HD.
So am I correct that there actually isn't any way to do this other than going through the photo's on my external HD using Finder and deleting them before importing to iPhoto?

A managed library is the default type that iPhoto creates.  Make sure you have the option selected to copy photos into iPhoto when importing:
was hoping it would at least keep thumbnails of all my photo's.
I use a DAM (digital asset management) program which will do exactly what you want: Media Pro 1.  It creates catalogs (libraries) of thumbnails, up to 640 x 480, that is uses to manage the photos.  You can do anything to the photos except edit, slideshows, or anything that requires the full source image when the source files are not available.  You can arrange  photos in Catalog Sets (like iPhoto albums), add keywords, etc. to them even when the sorce files are not available.  When the source files are available you can write that metadata to the source file and rename files. You can use Media Pro in demo mode for about a month I believe.
A catalog file for 44,000 photos (178 GB) with the thumbnails set for 320 pixels at high resolution is only 1.5 GB. The larger the thumbnail selected the larger the catalog file will be.
