Iphoto and pictures gone

My sons IMac is missing Iphoto 08 and all the picures are gone. We have looked under applications, but is not there anymore. Unfurtunately we didn't back up any of the pictures on the MAC, luckily most of the pictures were loade on our PC.    Can the application be deleted easily and is there a way to get all those pictures back?

BTW. This would be a good time to purchase an external drive and start backing up. If you do not sooner or later you will lose everything

  • I lost all my photos in iphoto and picture project

I have a Mac OS X version 10.3.9, and the iphoto is version 4.0.3
i emptied my trash, and then went through the applications and deleted the ones i don't use (such as PDA and palm pilot applications and the games that i will never play). After i was done, i went back to iphoto and all the albums and pictures were gone. I went into picture project (a nikon software) and those pictures were gone, but had the little boxes of blank pictures. My desktop originally had a picture on it that i downloaded from a camera was gone as well. when i logged onto another account those pictures were still there. When i logged back onto my account, my desktop picture came back, leading me to believe that my pictures are still there. But those are gone too. Is there anyway i can retrive my pictures? I really hope they are not gone! I have too many pictures...and only half of them backed up! =(

i'm talking about the desktop trash. I don't know how to empty the iphoto trash.
No, i didn't delete anything with iphoto. i know i can delete duplicates, and still keep one of the pictures, i have done that before. I did delete Chess, Deimos Rising, Ambrosia Software Web, Kinoma, Palm, PDA Shop Lists, PDA Money, PDA Safe ID, Splash ID, Splash Money, Splash Shopper.
I logged under a different user name, and all those pictures were still in iphoto and picture project.
No, i did not contradict myself. The desk top picture did come back, leading me to believe that all the photos were still there. However, when i checked the iphoto and picture project, those were still gone.

  • Lost iPhoto and pictures

Tonight opened iPhoto and was prompted to select a library. I chose the library I thought was the correct one (I only have two choices iPhoto or Pictures) and now when iPhoto opens I have all the thumbnails but when I click to open them all I get is a black screen with an "!" mark.
I have tried all the usual procedures such as opening with "Option & Cmd" buttons held and rebuilt
all #1,2, & 6, or only "option" held to choose new library all to no avail.
Furthermore, when I went back to my Pictures folder all I have is a folder which went clicked on opens iPhoto. If I right-click on this folder then I can see all my other contents. I have tried to select-all in the this folder to drag onto the Pictures folder but all I get is a pop-up saying it can't be opened because "Pictures" may be damaged or incomplete
Using a cmd line from a previous problem I was able to get my "Pictures" folder back to what it should be (after several goes during which it kept reverting back).
Can anyone offer some advice on how I can open up my photos please?

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • IPhoto and iMovie gone after Mavericks upgrade

I upgraded my MacBook Pro to Mavericks and lost ALL of my applications.  I finally have most everything back in order, but iPhoto and iMovie are gone and now the App Store says I need to purchase them.
Why should I have to purchase them when I already own them from the purchase of my MacBook Pro? Getting a free Mavericks upgrade should not cause me to have to spend $30 to get the applications back that I already owned in the first place.
Please help me restore those two applications.
    Thanks,
    Greg

    so please read my responce
2 - to get them back you reinstall from the original source - which may be the restore disk that came with your computer, a purchased iLife upgrade or the app store using the Apple ID  you used to set your computer up
Maybe it is clearer using bullet points rather that standard English puncuation
To get them back you reinstall from the original source
    which may be
1 - The restore disk that came with your computer,
    2 - a purchased iLife upgrade or
3 - the app store using the Apple ID  you used to set your computer up - in this case you go to the App store under purchases
Only you know what the original source is
As as to who should pay for yoru mistake  --  obviously if your mistake creates a cost then you should pay the cost you created - pretty simple stuff
As to Time Machine - yes they should be there but it is better to reinstall them - copying from a backup dose not work well for applications

  • Difference between iPhotos and "Pictures"

Can someone explain why some pictures show up in Pictures and iPhotos and which ones I should keep?

Photos only go into iPhoto if you import them. It could be that ImageCapture, the program that interfaces with your camera behind the scenes, is set to put the images it downloads into Pictures and not iPhoto.
Somewhere along the line you set that behaviour.
What are you using to take your pictures, and where do you want them to go?

  • I just installed iLife on my new Imac version 10.8.2 and now I can't open my iPhoto app.  It says that I Photo is damaged or incomplete.  What do I do to restore my iPhoto and pictures!

I just installed iLife on my new iMac 10.8.2 version and now I can't open my iPhoto app.  It says it is damaged or incomplete.  What can I do to get it back along with all of my picutures?  I was told by an Apple employee at my one to one training that it was OK to install iLife to get the iDVD that I wanted. Help!

I have installed iLife a few times and because of photostream, the version on the disc must be updated.  Software update usually takes care of it.  It sounds like you installed an old version over a new version.  I've not tried that.
You have a late 2012 machine, if you open the Mac app store from the dock, you should be able to go to the purchased tab and download/install the right version of iphoto.  Honestly, you should not have used that disc on this new of mac or at least only installed iDVD & iWeb but not garageband, iphoto, and iMovie.
If the Mac App Store shows iphoto as installed already, drag the app from your applications folder to the trash and reinstall it again from the Mac App Store.  That is the version you need.  You may find garageband and imovie have similar problems.
    good luck.
PS.  your photos are in your photo folder in your home folder.  don't touch those, I'm talking about the app "iphoto" in the applications folder.

  • Iphoto import interrupted during photos being deleted from iPhone now no photos on iPhoto and most gone from iPhone

I have imported 5000 photos from my iPhone to iPhoto, after doing this i selected "delete from phone" during this my usb connection was knocked and i received an error message. When i connected it again none of the photos are in iPhoto and all but 195 photos have been deleted from my phone.
I cant find anything on the macbook with any of the photos in and i am worried that ive lost them all. Would be greatful for any help.

Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild your iPhoto library database

  • Iphoto and ilife gone!

I discovered today that iphoto and the rest of ilife are suddenly not on my macbook anymore! They're not in the applications folder and I searched for them on the computer with no use.
I bought the macbook the day Leopard came out. It came with Tiger on it and Leopard on a CD. The Leopard CD was the only one it came with, and I don't see ilife on the CD.
How can I get ilife back?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
They are on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert and opt to install 'Bundled Applications Only'.

  • I opened iPhoto to find all of my albums and pictures gone.

None of the rebuild options discussed in other forums have brought the pictures back. Earlier today, my computer experienced a kernel panic. Would that have deleted all of my pictures? I don't know a lot of technical stuff about how my Mac works. I just really need my pictures back! I don't understand how they can just disappear. They aren't in my trash or anything. I had opened Skype and tried to change my profile picture and it asked me something about a "new iPhoto library." Did I click something wrong?

The only way is to tap the screen as if you were entering the passcode, there is no secret way around this. Try plugging it in to your computer and see if it will let you import the photos, if not then you may want to look at trying some data recovery software.

  • Knowing what to do with iPhoto and Pictures on my mac

Hi! I am a complete beginner and this is my first time on these forums. I guess I have had my Mac Mini for about a year and although I do love it i still haven't touched the surface of the things it can do, in all honesty I guess I'm a bit scared to do or try too much and this is proved in my problem: sorry about the preamble!
About two months ago I was looking at my pictures on the slideshow from a distance after I had finally realised that the pictures I had needed to be put into iPhoto 6 personally; so that done, I noticed that they were still in Pictures on my mac, as well as in iPhoto - I DID NOT know that these two packages operated simultaneously, together (is this correct?) Anyway I deleted the pictures from Pictures and then I noticed that they had vanished from iPhoto 6 too. BANG! About 1000 photographs gone and vanished, that had come from me man and boy, and PC! Any chance of getting them back?

Yes, they are mixed up, like events/albums from a baby shower are now mixed in with a housing photo shoot, etc. So I don't quite know why or how it happened,it could be because when I migrated them from my windows, I just went into my network and sent them over the network and they went kerbluee every which way, also I think I may just pull the plug and take them all out and start over either way, I thank you for sending me the link to look at the tutorial, I am going to utilize the information this weekend and try to do some sorting, and will check out those options. Thanks for helping 'new kid' on the block.

  • Uploading Photos from iPhoto and Picture Sync (quality)?

    Hi, my first post -
I am using iPhoto to store all of my photos and uploading my photos to Kodak Easyshare gallery via Picture Sync, and not happy with the quality of my photos when uploaded to Kodak. On Picture Sync preferences are set to the highest quality. Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    LDC-

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. It doesn't look like there's much else you can do. Do you have the option to convert to sRGB selected. That might change the color a bit but not sharpness. You might be better off exporting you select photos to the desktop and using a resizing application like Resize! or iResize. I tried both and compared them to the Picture Sync version and both were better.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • IPhoto '11 upgrade from iPhoto '08 - Pictures gone!!!

About 1000 photos have vanished including everything since June 2010 (~500-600) post upgrade. Some pre-june 2010 are blank, but something is there...
I have since run the cmd-opt rebuilds and recreates with no change.
Any new ideas?? This is really disappointing...

The missing photos could have been missing from before iPhoto "11 upgraded the library. When iPhoto upgrades the library it also rebuilds the thumbnails. If the original is missing iPhoto cannot create a new thumbnail and then the issue becomes visible. Try going to a 8.1.2 version of the library and check on the missing photos and see if they exist there. The thumbnail could be showing but you need to to double click on a photo to see it in full size (edit mode). If the photo is missing you will see the large exclamation point. If the photo loads (is not missing) in the 8.1.2 version, then you can use TM to restore just the missing photos into the iPhoto '11 library.

  • IPhoto and iTunes gone!

My iTunes and iPhoto icons on the dock suddenly acquired transparent question marks and will not open.  They have also disappeared from the applications list.  What has happened?

On both our log-ins, iTunes and iPhoto are now only in the applications folder and not the bar - inconvenient but better than denial of service! Now how to get them back to the dock for both of us....?
Nice to get a reply from California - we are in the UK and our daughter and husband have just emigrated to Santa Monica
Locate each app in the Applications folder and drag it back to the Dock and it it will be restored to the Dock.
Southern and Northern California are worlds apart, both very nice but personally I'm a N. Californian and prefer it up here.

  • Macbook Pro iPhoto or Pictures?

Just bought a MacBook Pro, could someone please explain to me the difference between the iphoto and pictures? Should I upload my pics to both? Or should I use one rather than the other? Thanks in advance!!

iPhoto is an app that supports importing photos from a digital camera and is also a photo storage and management app. The iPhoto Library is stored in the OS X Pictures folder. If you mamage photos the good old Windows way - by manually creating folders, etc, you can store all your manually created folders of photos in the Pictures folder. Pictures is basically just a folder.

When I download photos from my SD card they are downloaded clear, then I hit edit in iphoto and pictures are fuzzy. In Apeture and Preview they are clear.
