IPhoto and slideshow cache
HI there, I know I had this issue last year with the slideshow. Odd things, it is taking hours to export, music that I did not set is there, my show was 8 minutes and now it is 4. Basically it is not working correctly. I know to remove the pre file but I think it had something to do with the cache, there is also a slideshow cache as well. It fixed it last time, I of course can not find the thread. Thanks as alwasy for the help

If you take the songs in iTunes that you wish to use in the slideshow and put them into a playlist such as slideshow. Then when creating the slideshow in iPhoto you select the playlist named slideshow, the songs in that playlist will be used.

Hey guys just wondering if there is a way to have a slideshow with more than 1 song playing in the background? I have a ton of pictures for a slideshow and want to use 3 or four songs as background music, any way to do this?

Can someone please tell me a simple but effective method for burning a slideshow to DVD? Now that the connection between iPhoto and iDVD no longer exists, I can't figure out a way to get there with an acceptable quality result.
Export the slideshow out of iPhoto as a QT movie file via the Export button in the lower toolbar. Select Size = Medium or Large.
Open iDVD, select a theme and drag the exported QT movie file into the open iDVD window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it. If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality. Always use top quality media: Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
If iDVD was not preinstalled on your Mac you'll have to obtain it by purchasing a copy of the iLife 09 disk from a 3rd party retailier like Amazon.com: ilife 09: Software or eBay.com. Why, because iDVD (and iWeb) was discontinued by Apple over a year ago.
Why iLife 09 instead of 11?
If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides themes from iDVD 5-7. The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:

You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.

I was just forced to "upgrade" iphoto, and most of my slideshows are gone. What is going on? I'm desperate here.

It wouldn't open unless I clicked "upgrade." The other option was "cancel." The Genius at the Apple Store said I had no choice. The new stuff looks idfferent but maybe it's just taking a while to go through all my photos. I can't tell what is going on exactly, but I'm nervous to see the last slideshow there is 2010.
We are backed up on Carbonite, but the hoops to go through getting specific items back seems daunting to me. -
IPhoto 11 slideshow mode decreases the image sharpness and quality
The images that weight over 5 MB and are fine and sharp become somewhat blured when displayed in the iPhoto '11 slideshow mode. The loss of image sharpness is just too big. The pictures look like they were made with a 100$ camera or even worse. I know the images are fine and big enough. I used picasa slideshow mode just to check. I saw a much better image quality and no noticable lose of sharpness.
Anyone has an idea why the iPhoto 11 slideshow mode looses so much image sharpness?We all like iPhoto and its ease of use, good looks and fancy features.
However Aplle must concentrate on the core .... sufficient quality of the displayed images. The colors, sharpness, tones - the essence of photography
I understand that iPhoto is not the Aperture. But if the Slide Show mode virtually washes the sharpness away from the pictures than something is not right! Picture that is not sharp is worth the trash

When running a slideshow from an album it will not run properly if the photos are sorted manually. Sort them by any of the other options, title, date, rating, etc. and it will play correctly.
Send a report of the problem to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html.
If you must sort them manually create the slideshow in the slideshow mode in iPhoto, not from an album.

You need an slideshow app that gives you more control over the Soundtrack.

Others will have excellent audio controls. It's worth checking them out to see what meets your needs. However, there is no doubt that Final Cut Express is the most capable app of them all. You get what you pay for. -
Slideshow fails to launch in iPhoto and Aperture
I used to run slideshows in iPhoto and Aperture without problems and really liked the scrapbook theme in Aperture (thanks Apple!). Then I made the mistake of re-installing Leopard and now everytime I click "start slideshow", the screen goes black for a few seconds and then goes back to where it was before. Does anyone know what the reason could be. Otherwise both iPhoto and Aperture seem to work just fine.
Start with the troubleshooting basics:
1. Delete the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
2. Repair Permissions using Disk Utility

The PDF file and slideshow view corrupted using iPhoto. Macbook air only get corrupted slideshow and Mac Mini both slideshow and PDF file is corrupted.
Saving as a PDF file for some users have been a problem. If you boot into Safe Mode and run iPhoto you can create undamaged PDF files. We don't know why the problem but this is a workaround.
This problem prevents many from ordering books, calendars and cards since iPhoto creates PDF file of them for uploading and printing. Booting into Safe Mode lets them successfully order those items. -
BUG: iPhoto 9 Slideshow - Text Slide Bugs and iPhoto Library Corruption
I was wondering if anyone else has run into the following issues:
I have had multiple issues with iPhoto crashing, stop responding, and database corruption where I cannot open iPhoto. These issues all began when I tried to use the new themed slideshow in iPhoto v9.1. Previously, I had only used iPhoto to create basic slideshows with iPhoto v7.x. I was hoping that I would be able to create my masterpiece in iPhoto 11 (v9.1) but I have only been frustrated by my attempts so far.
What should have been a 3 - 4 hour operation has become a 20 hour nightmare and I still don't have a slideshow to show for my efforts. This has been one of my most disappointing uses of Apple software ever.
Repeatable, reproducible bugs that I have run into include:
1. Deleting a photo that appears in the timeline before a sub-title causes havoc with subsequent sub-titles (a.k.a. Text Slides). Subsequent subtitles are randomly copied to pictures following the one it was assigned to. Further, there is no subtitle icon in the timeline and the photos have to be manually modified to eliminate the subtitle. Work around is click the "Text Slide" button
2. Zooming and/or image placement is not preserved and not visible when previewed, exported, or iPhoto is closed and then reopened.
3. The iPhoto Library becomes corrupt and permissions problems prevent me from working with my photos. This happens while working on slideshow. I have had to rebuild my library and repair permissions no less than five times since I started working on my slideshow.iPhoto's slideshow feature is fine but no tool for a "masterpiece".
Alternatives to iPhoto's slideshow include:
iMovie, on every Mac sold, as is iDVD.

My albums and slideshows disappeared from the left column when I ejected a Canon camera after a download. My version of iPhoto '08 (V7.1.5(378)) had just crashed when I first connected the Canon camera to download. I restarted iPhoto.....successfully downloaded 22 photos, and ejected Canon camera, upon which albums & slideshows highlighted blue and disappeared from the left column. The photos still seem to be under the EVENTS and PHOTOS in the LIBRARY. Any thoughts?

I have a slideshow I made in iPhoto and it is showing in iTunes movies but when I select it and click 'sync' it does not load into my phone. I have made sure it is a mobile version of the slideshow. How do I load it onto my phone? Or also, how do I play it from iPhoto or iTunes through Apple TV
Was the iPod setup via iTunes on this computer?
Setup via wifi?
Was the iPod previous synced to another iTunes library/computer?
Have you successfully synced from this iTunes library/computer before?
Do the songs play in iTunes?
Do you have the right boxes checked to sync?

Try syncing using the manual method -
Upgraded to OS X 10.9 and Slideshow in iPhoto stopped working (stays on first slide; will not advance)
Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database followed by Option #1 to reapair permissions if #4 doesn't help.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
If still not working log into another user account on your Mac and try a slideshow from there. If it works there then the problem is limited to your account. If it fails there it's system wide and may require a reinstall of iPhoto or the system. -
Trying to make a slideshow in iphoto and export it to iDVD
I just got a Macbook Pro this week and I am using the ilife 6 suite on it. I imported about 50 pictures into iphoto and created a slideshow with 1 music track playing in the slideshow. I want to be able to play this slideshow on a dvd player hooked up to a tv so I exported the slideshow to iDVD. I notice, it takes an extremely long time to export the file into iDVD, after about 15minutes, an error message comes up saying "An error has occured exporting slideshow to idvd". I also get a message saying I'm running out of HD space when I have about 53gb remaining. I checked my HD space and the slideshow ended up eating 32gb of HD space so I just deleted it. Can anyone tell me how to make a slideshow in iphoto so that it plays on my dvd player?
