Iphoto and wd my cloud

I've purchased a wd my cloud as my mac is full and I'm trying to transfer iPhoto folder but it keeps saying "perpairing", I've used my cloud for time machine and iTunes and had no problems. any ideas?

You're welcome
I see - with only 2GB of free disk space, it was critical to free some space.
My iphoto is Version 9.5.1 so not sure if this is 8 or 11
You can tell by the version icon - if your iPhoto.app icon looks like this, you have the latest version iPhoto '11, version 9.5.1.
Any application will show you the version in the "About" panel - from the main menu bar "iPHoto > About iPhoto".
but from what you've mentioned I think I will only use the wd my cloud for back up and putting some pictures (copy) on to share with the rest of the family and I will use a external drive for iphotos,
That is a good plan. A directly connected external drive will be faster any way when you are editing and browsing your photos.

  • Iphoto and cloud storage

Does anyone know of a solution which allows me to store iPhoto pictues in "the cloud."  The goal here is to be able to view photos on my apple tv or iPad without having to rely on my laptop always being on with home sharing enabled.
The only solution I have come across so far would be to use iPhoto in parallel with Google Picasca for mac to upload photos to Picasca Web Albums.
Does Apple have any plans to have perminate storage on iCloud for this?

You are correct, there is no Apple iCloud solution for photos.  I would like to be able to use iCloud for permanent storage instead of paying another third-party to store my photos where they will not easily be accessible from my Apple devices.
Therefore, Apple is suggesting I leave my computer on with iTunes running home sharing 24/7 to be able to access my meida since they are not offering me a solution "in the cloud" for photo storage.
I was just trying to see if anyone else had run into this issue, as everyone seems to be moving toward "the cloud" now a days to store and share media.  Or see if anyone had come across a home NAS solution which you store your meida at home but still have it accessible via my Apple TV 2 or iPad without needing to have iTunes open with home sharing enabled, possible on Linux server.

How do I backup iPhoto and itunes to the cloud?

  • Photo Stream activation fails in iPhoto and Aperture

    Hi,
i've just updated to OSX 1.7.2 on my iMac and MBA and to iOS5 on my iPhone 4S and iPad 2. Everything basically works well except the iCloud photo stream on my mac.
iPhone and iPad play well and push and pull fotos from the photo stream.
On the mac i can't activate the photo stream. I've updated iPhoto and Aperture but when i try to activate the photo stream it says that it's unable to reach the photo stream. I've already logged out from i cloud and re logged in again but that didn't help. iPhoto and Aperture are the latest versions.
    Anyone with an idea?
Addition: Activation works well on another iMac with another iCloud account from my girl friend (in the same local network), i've also double checked little snitch isn't blocking anything.
Addition 2: It also works on my MBA with the same iCloud account that doesn't work on the iMac. Weird,

I'm fairly certain that it's an account-wide preference. You could always enable a second user account, turn on Fast User Switching, and only swap to that account to launch iPhoto and do your Photo Stream business.

  • Best way to backup Iphoto and Itunes?

I just purchased a 2TB Timecapsule and after reading addtional reviews I am reconsidering my purchase. What is the best way to backup iphotos and itunes? The idea of backing up the data wirelessly and seamlessly with time machine was a what encouraged me to purchase Apples solution. However I am seeing alot of TC's are dying after their warranty expires which is a deal breaker as I have a newborn and do not want to lose pictures.
My 2009 MBP memory is nearly full and my photos eat memory. I would like a solution that allows me to access previous photos etc without relying on the MBP HD in the event it is stolen, crashes etc.
The same holds true for itunes which I rarely use now that I have Spotify, however I do not want to lose my itunes catelog in two years either, but it would be great to have them off my MBP HD, but readily accessible if necessary.
The literature on purchasing cloud storage is pretty scarce (Icloud!?, Amazon?)
Any insight is greatly appreciated, and I am sure I will have followup questions as I need to resolve this soon now that I have a 2 week window to return the TC.
    Thank you!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Presumably, the old iMac is pre-Firewire? If it is, it really would be very slow for backing up. You can use these methods to network the two machines on my FAQ:

  • Using iPhoto and iCloud

    i have 9.4.3 iphoto and a Mac OSX 10.8.3
first I lost my photo library. I found 1000 pics in web stream. They seem to be in i cloud-stored.
I use pixelmator and now everytime I try to edit-it goes to i cloud.
    This all began yesterday.
Larry suggested that I go to launch iphoto and depress the hold option key.
When I do this the i cons shake and x's appear in the corner of iphoto, movie, garage band and one more.
    What is going on.
If I continue to edit my photos which I need to do daily, how is icloud going to affect me.
icloud seems to have hi jacked me

Exactly how are you using Pixelmator to edit photos in iPhoto?
If you launch iPhoto do the photos show up in your PhotoStream? If so import them to iPhoto -
Since your Mac and PC have more storage than your iOS devices, you can choose to have all of your My Photo Stream photos automatically downloaded. In iPhoto or Aperture preferences on your Mac, be sure to select Photo Stream > My Photo Stream > Automatic Import. All of your photo stream photos will be imported into your Events, Projects, Photos, Faces, and Places folders in iPhoto or Aperture.
And note that you have it backwards
    You do not
Larry suggested that I go to launch iphoto and depress the hold option key.
    You do
Depress and hold the option key and then launch iPhoto - this will give you the select library window

  • IPhoto and dropbox conflict

I have saved my photo collections in iPhoto for a few years.  I have replaced my Macbook Pro twice and every time I simply migrate everything without a problem.  Thus, my iPhoto Library contained photos from several years (6 or 8).  Recently my wife's macbook was having problems and we decided to replace the hard drive.  I created a backup of her computer's main documents, including her iPhoto Library, in my dropbox account (I have a dropbox account with plenty of space available).  Since then, my own iPhoto is shown all her photos and events and all my own photos and events are gone from my computer!  One thing that is important here is that I NEVER made a backup of my own iPhoto library in dropbox, because I keep all my backups in external drives.
Not sure why iPhoto and dropbox are conflicting, but I hope someone can help me here.
    Thanks.

I created a backup of her computer's main documents, including her iPhoto Library, in my dropbox account (I have a dropbox account with plenty of space available).
The only location an iPhoto Library can be safely stored is on a volume formatted OS X Extended (journaled).  There are no know cloud storage facilities, including Dropbox, that are compatible with the complex construction of an iPhoto library package and can recover a working library safely.
Since your library is disiplaying you're wife's pictures I'd move it to your Desktop and restore your backup copy from the external HD.  Then see if it will just show your photos.
If it does then you can move the other library to your wife's account for her to use.  But be sure it is working correctly, that all photos are there and that all can be viewed in full size.

  • Share photos from IPhoto with friends through cloud

Anyone know the simplest way to share -- say a whole event -- with a friend, without filling up their email inbox.  In other words, how can you quickly identify photos in IPhoto and put them somewhere on the cloud and then send a link to that place to a friend?
    Thanks.

I just want to choose some photos in my IPhoto (in this case, an Event) with a particular friend.
The above-linked support articles explain how to do that. You create a shared stream from the images you want to share, and then invite those whom you wish to share it with via email.

  • My 7-year-old iMac died. I don't plan to replace it. It is backed up to Crashplan. Is it possible to restore my iPhoto library to the cloud, i.e. iCloud or Dropbox, so that I can access the photos as needed from my iPad or iPhone?

Probably not - but that certainly does not involve iPhoto for the Mac - you need to look at Crashplan support for you options
And iCloud is not a place to store photos so that is certainly not a possibility
If you restore your masters folder out of the iPhoto library you will have all of your original photos to do with what you please

  • After upgrading to Mavericks I cannot update iPhoto and iMovie. Why?

Just got my first Mac, an iMac. I upgraded to Maverick and once done I find there are updates available for iPhoto and iMovie. First I have tried to register "accept" the two apps. Nothing happens. Then I try to update them and get the answer that these apps was installed with another Apple ID. The thing is that I don't have any other Apple ID and noone else has touched my iMac. I have tried to reinstall Maverick three times now but end up with the same result. Anyone who has any clue or have experienced the same problem?

Open System Preferences > Users & Groups then select the Password tab.
Make sure you see the correct Apple ID.
    If not, click Change.
Make sure you are logged into your admin account before updating apps.
Reinstalling Mavericks requires using OS X Recovery  but there's no reason to reinstall Mavericks just to update your apps.

On the bottom bar of the window (on the left iPhoto 11, on the right in other versions) note the slider. Drag it left.

  • Using iPhoto and editing with Photoshop Elements 4

    Hello
I am new to Macs after many years using PC and I am struggling to set up my photo workflow. I shoot in RAW format and input into iPhoto from iPhoto I double click on the photo and which opens the RAW editor in Photoshop Elements. After making changes I open the file in Photoshop and then save as a TIFF.
My problem is I do not see the changed and saved file in iPhoto and if I double click on the photo again it opens back up in the RAW editor not as a TIFF.
Can any one point me in the right direction to solve this or is what I am trying to do not possible
    Thanks

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
What you're trying to do is not possible.
When you save as a TIFF you create a whole new file that needs to be imported into iPhoto anew. iPhoto will track an edit as long as you stay with the same file - so, edit your jpeg in PSE and use the 'Save' command and the change is reflected in iPhoto. However, you cannot Save RAW files, it's always a Save As... and so the resulting file has to be imported.

  • I've paid for and activated the cloud software I need, yet I am repeated asked to "Activate or start my trail software"

I've paid for and activate adobe cloud services. Yet I am repeatedly asked to activate or start my trail software.
This is getting extremely annoying, especially in combination with having to repeatedly sign in for software updates.
I don't want to have to sign into my account everytime I need to use photoshop, illustrator, on indesign!
I also feel like I should not have to sign in for software updates. I only work on one computer.
I want my software updates to take care of themselves, beside security pop ups asking me to grant Adobe software permission to make changes on my computer.
I most especially don't want to be asked every time I use the software if i want to "activate" or start a trial of the software! Besides the annoying time suck, it makes me feel like I am not a valued customer, if every time I use my software it can't remember if I paid for it or previously activated it.

Inarinainari please reinstall the Adobe Application Manager by utilizing the steps listed at Error "Failed to Install" Creative Cloud Desktop application - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/failed-install-creative-cloud-desktop.html.  The Adobe Application Manager has been rolled into the Creative Cloud Desktop application which is why the referenced document refers to the Creative Cloud Desktop application as opposed to the Adobe Application Manager.  Since you are running Mac OS 10.6.8 it is not possible for you to run this later version.

  • Good morning, i would like to know how to take pictures from iphoto and put them in a folder on desktop

Good morning: would like to know how to take pictures from my iphoto and put them in a folder on my desktop

To take photos from iPhoto and put them onto a folder on Desktop, first create a folder on Desktop. Right-click on Desktop and create a new folder.
Then, open iPhoto, and you have two ways to export photos:
    1. Select the photos you want to copy to Desktop with Command key (or go to Edit menu > Select All, if you want to copy all photos), and then, drag them to the folder on Desktop.
    2. Select the photos you want to copy to Desktop with Command key, go to File menu > Export, and follow the steps.
You can choose the one you prefer
