IPhoto App not loading... anything.

I recently updated iPhoto to 8.0.2 and (I think) iPhoto was still fine afterwards. I tried the faces thing and although it took forever, it all seemed OK. It was certainly OK with the 8.0 or 8.0.1 from the install DVD.
However I opened the app today and got a blank window – I don't just mean an empty library, I mean absolutely nothing – an empty window with just the tinted bar down the left hand side where the events etc should be. No text, no buttons - nothing. Tried to quit and iPhoto said something like "iPhoto can't quit – photos are being imported", even though none were (no camera or card was attached to laptop, just my son's iPodTouch charging in its dock - but no syncing or anything going on at the time).
I then force quit the app, and relaunched – same again – just an empty window.
I assumed a corrupted library and tried both the iPhoto rebuild and iPhoto Library Manager rebuild – nothing. Then removed all the traces (that I know of) of iPhoto and reinstalled the app from DVD – again nothing.
After searching forums for similar posts (only finding 1 very similar, but unanswered), I tried:
• moving the library back from its external fw800 (where it's been happily for years) to the internal HD, into my User/Pictures folder
• deleting all cache files that I could find (with onyx)
• re-deleting the pref files
• reinstalling whole app again
• creating a brand new library, again by both methods
• repairing and re-repairing permissions on HD
• checking HD with Disk Utility and Drive Genius
• ensuring no external disks connected (even ipods)
All to no avail...
The only clue I can find is that when I open an existing or new library and get the blank window – if I then open the prefs window and close it again (with or without changing any settings) the events, photos albums etc all re-appear. However I still can't then open an event or album (although I can view old slideshows, books and calendars). If I click on an event or album – I either get nothing (no response), or a blank grey window, or a crash. In almost all cases the app won't quit either.
Frustratingly, the entire library is perfectly accessible and usable from iWeb, so there doesn't seem to be too much wrong with the library itself. I still suspect some kind of prefs or permissions issue, but I don't know what to try next to identify it.
MBP running perfectly normally otherwise...
Anyone fancy a challenge?

Yes ...well mostly.
It was the Helvetica Neue issue. iPhoto 8.0.x won't open without the Apple Helvetica neue (.dfont) activated, and I had deactivated it as I'm a graphic designer and need to run the Postscript version instead.
This was where I found the tip:
http://discussions.apple.com/click.jspa?searchID=-1&messageID=8902008
I have tried running both versions at once (despite realising that this isn't recommended), and although I've had no disasters with it yet, I can see that the Apple font doesn't seem to be listing all its weights in the font menu (of InDesign at least). I need to do further investigation to see if this is likely to cause serious issues either with font substitution or system behaviour, but it hasn't reached priority status yet. Perhaps someone else can shed some more light on it?
Ultimately of course Apple need to STEP AWAY FROM THE HELVETICA NEUE! To ride into town and claim a font that so many designers like myself rely on every day (in Postscript form) as 'their own', betrays a lack of knowledge of their creative user base. But having now embedded the requirement for it in applications such as iPhoto, I don't see this happening any time soon...

  • Appstore app not loading anything

My Appstore.app is not loading anything - by itself, through Software Update or even when I click a Mac Appstore weblink.  Running Mavericks 10.9.2 on late 2011 h/w. Already tried 10.9.2 update and restore from backup - behaviour did not change.  When the Appstore app opens, the screen is blank, all tabs (Featured...) give blank pages.

    Hello NG2014,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with the Mac App Store.  I recommend the following article for the issue you described (the title of this article references an error that you didn’t mention, but the steps are relevant for the issue you described):
OS X: "Cannot connect" or "Cannot connect to the App Store. An internet connection is required"

  • Iphoto will not load ANYTHING

    Hi,
My iphoto 5 will open, but has stopped loading pictures. All it does it is tell me that it's loading, and nothing happens. I've waited up to an hour thinking that the computer was just slowing down (though I haven't even had it a year).
However, if I log in as a guest, the iphoto will work, and will even load images from my digital camera--but not when I log in as myself.
Any and all comments are welcome!
    thanks for your time

The files on the desktop you can put in the trash. The albums folder and the Albums.xml files were only used by iPhoto 4 and no longer used by iPhoto 5.
For the blank photos, you can try a rebuild of the library...
    Try this:
Before doing a rebuild make sure iPhoto's trash bin is emptied. You can do this by control clicking on the trash bin, or from the menu bar under iPhoto.
    Close iPhoto
    Duplicate the iPhoto Library folder
Drag the duplicate to the desktop (hopefully you have enough room on your hard drive for the duplicate.)
Launch iPhoto holding down the Command and Option keys until you see the rebuild options screen.
Choose the first three options. If you were missing photos in your library, also choose the last option. Be advised that you will get a roll of orphaned photos and it might be quite huge. Most of them will already be in your iPhoto library, but use caution when deleting anything from this roll until you are sure the photos are still in your library in another place. It might be a good idea to share/export this roll of photos just in case you need to import them again.
Back to the rebuild, depending on the size of your library it might take some time. When it is done, hopefully your photos will be there.
You might see some unexpected results as I did when I did a rebuild. Photos had been moved to wrong dates, video clips had lost their duration info and some were even orphaned from the jpg pointer file. It took me some time to straighten it out again.
This is the reason to make a duplicate before you rebuild, in case you do not like the result. If you don't like the result, close iPhoto, then delete the rebuilt library and drag the duplicate back into the Pictures folder making sure the name is iPhoto Library. Launch iPhoto and it should open the library in the Pictures folder.

  • My ipad 2 did its own update as normal except this time it will not load anything to do with game center I cant even open that app is there something I can do

my ipad 2 did its own update as usual ( 7.0 to 7.1) except this time it will not load anything to do with game center even its own app............is there anything I can do?

Try closing all of the apps on your iPad and then reset the device.
To close an app, drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it. Close every app this way.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • IPhoto Will not Load even after reinstall

All of a sudden, iphoto will not load....I receive this error:
Iphoto cannot be loaded because of a problem.
Check with the developer to make sure that iphoto works with this version of Mac OS X. You may need to reinstall the application.  Be sure to install any available updates for the application and Mac OS X.
I reinstalled iphoto from the disk (so now I have iphoto and iphone (original) .....i reboot and then try to access the new iphoto....same error.  iphoto library appears ok. I can still attach a pic via "photo browser" button in email.

The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS.  So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Basic things like :
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For instance: 'iPhoto won't export' is best explained by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.

  • Iphoto does not load into iDVD- too many photos?

Recently upgraded to Leopard 10.5.6 and iLife '09. Ever since, iPhoto will not load into iDVD (iphoto 8.0 and iDVD 7.0.3). When trying to open current and new projects in iDVD, the project opens, and plays, but the photos from iPhoto never load, the loading icon just spins on and on. When I open a new document, the same thing happens. Tried trashing preferences in both programs, reinstalling iLife, and reparing permissions. All software updates are current. Still won't work.
I am starting to wonder if it has to do with the number of photos I have in iPhoto, which is about 4000. The photos loaded with no problem until I upgraded. Could it be that the upgrades in iPhoto just make the files too large, and it's too much to expect that many photos to load? Does anyone know how many photos is too many,— or can you suggest anything I have not tired that might work?

This is from Mac Help. It is a good idea to create another account to use in troubleshooting situations such as this. After you create the new account, open iDVD from that account. Try creating a small project to see if you are having the same problems. Post back with your results.
_Adding a new user account to your computer_
You can create individual user accounts for each person who uses your computer. Each new user has a separate home folder and can adjust his or her own preferences without affecting other users.
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences and click Accounts.
If some settings are dimmed, click the lock icon and type an administrator name and password.
Click Add and type the user's name.
If you don't want to use the short name generated automatically, type a new short name. (Once the account is created, you won't be able to change the short name.)
Type the user's password in the Password and Verify boxes.
Type a hint to help the user remember the password if they have trouble remembering it at login.
Click Parental Controls and select options to determine what the user can do with the computer.
If you change your mind while you're creating a new user account, click Delete to cancel.

  • Iphoto will not load

Iphoto will not load and has not opened since my Mac book pro was new.  It will just stick in the start up mode with the pinwheel spinning, (no color, large wheel)  I am running os x lion 10.7.2, updated iphoto software to 9.2.1 and tried trashing iphoto.plist file with no luck.  Any ideas?  Thanks, Keith

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .
