IPhoto application has disappeared!!

All,
I usually don't use iPhoto and today when I went to try it out, the application was gone. It was installed when I installed 10.4 a month ago. I repaired permissions and verified the disk is okay; but to no avail. My iPhoto library is still there. Anyone have any suggestions. Using an iBook G4 (April 2004), and OSX 10.4.6 and have only one user account.
Thanks!
Frank

Hi FAC,
Did iPhoto come installed on your iBook when you bought it, or did you install it with iLife?
Check out these links to see if you can reinstall it from your computer installation CD/DVD.

  • My iphoto library has disappeared. How can I get it back?

My iphoto library has disappeared. How can I get it back?

I'm very new to this sort of thing, so bear with me.  I had my computer in to the Apple store on Jan 10th, & they replaced Leopard with Snow leopard because of problems.  I have iphoto 8.
This morning opening my computer a picture briefly appreared that I had saved to iphoto. I decided to place it in its correct event box, and  ! sign appeared.  Upon opening iphoto, I found a blank.  I've not backed up my files.  I've looked everywhere on the system, including Trash, applications, Pictures, all my document files.
Also I had 2 icons  of iphoto on my desktop because it had disappeared 2 years ago & came back some months later.  Two days ago I decided to clean up my desktop & moved the icons to the pIcture  file and a document file.  I don't know whether this triggered the disappearance. The main icon is still in the dock.
    Does this help?

  • Using OS 10-6-8. For no apparent reason, mail refused to open and the icon in the dock changed and the application has disappeared except in iWork. Under Iwork, the message says: "yoou tried to open Mail version 4.5 (1084/1085) in: /Applications/iWork '06

Using OS 10-6-8. For no apparent reason, mail refused to open, the icon in the dock changed appearance and the application has disappeared except in iWork. Under Iwork, the message says: "you tried to open Mail version 4.5 (1084/1085) in: /Applications/iWork '06. Using OS 10-6-8. It can't be used on thius version of Mac OS X. Try opening the version of Mail located in the Applications folder..."  How do I get back to mail and retrieve my existing messages?

You should consider downloading the 10.6.8 combo updater and applying it again.

  • Address Book Application has disappeared from iMac

my son has an iMac with OSX 10.4 (Tiger). the Address Book application has literally disappeared from his computer. i suspect that i need to re-install Address Book, but cannot find where/how to do that anywhere on apple.com. any help will be greatly appreciated.

Both the Tiger and Leopard Installer discs include an Optional Installs installer. Launch this installer (found in the Optional Installs folder on the Leopard disc) and at the root level in the Tiger Installer disc. Launch the installer and click the continue buttons until you reach the Custom Install screen. Click the triangle next to Applications, tick the box next to Address Book, and click the Install button to install Address Book.

  • IPhoto app has disappeared

My iPhoto app won't launch and I can't find it via searches either.
I discovered this when I plugged in my digital camera and the import didn't start automatically as it had done previously.
How can the iPhoto app just disappear?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
How can the iPhoto app just disappear?
It can't. Here are the usual reasons it might be missing:
Someone put it in the trash - have a look there
Someone did an Erase and Install of the OS - iPhoto is not part of the OS and therefore needs to be installed separately.

  • My iphoto icon has disappeared from my dock and applications folder. Please HELP

I tried clicking on the iphoto icon in the dock and nothing happened. I went looking for it in the applications folder and it wasn't there. I then moved the icon from the dock on to the desktop and it poof'd into thin air! GONE. What can I do? Please help! VERY upset.

reinstall iPhoto from the restore disks that came with your computer -
reinstall iPhoto - go to your receipts folder ("Your hard drive" ==> library ==> receipts) and remove any iPhoto receipts and reinstall from the restore disks that came with your computer - do a custom install of bundled software only

  • HELP - All of my iPhoto library has DISAPPEARED

A week ago I installed iLife 5. I have had no problems until today. Last night I was working in iPhoto, and had no problems. Now....I open iPhoto, all of my albums are there....BUT ALL OF MY PHOTOS ARE GONE....OMG...what has happened. The scary thing about this is...I remember a similar thing happened to me several years ago, when I did an upgrade from another version of iPhoto.
HELP..anyone with some assistance out there??

    Foxall:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Look in your User/Pictures folder and see if there isn't a folder titled "iPhoto Library". If it's there then launch iPhoto with the Option key depressed and when asked, navigate to the Pictures folder and select that folder. It should open. If you have library issues like a damaged database file or whatever it may not open fully or not show all the photos. If it does open and everything is there we're done. If not, but it does open, then close iPhoto and relaunch it with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select all of the options. You may get some duplicates but those can be culled out after you're up and running again. If that fails post back and we can go from there.

  • Application has disappeared, turning into automator workflow

I usually can get to the bottom of a problem like this without any assistance, but this has me stymied.
In my applications folder, I've had and used for years, a Photoshop application pure and simple. But recently, when I tried to access it, I found that it always opened as an Automator workflow (having a reference to the Photoshop app). The Photoshop icon had been replaced with a workflow icon. Get Info on that workflow identifies it as the Photoshop application, with an appropriate size of some 50 MB.
I've used Automator a few times, but not for a long time, and I don't recollect having created a workflow referencing Photoshop. But I thought little of this, as I have two backups of the main
drive and an install disk for the Photoshop.
I did find the Photoshop application on both of the backups. I tried to copy those to the Applications Folder on the main drive, with the maddening result that the Photoshop app turned into an Automator workflow on all three drives!
Using the CD originally used to install Photoshop, I set out to re-install it. But the CD contents (which can't be changed) now show only the Automator workflow!
As the most recent step, I trashed Automator on one drive, but that made no difference whatsoever -- except now I get an Alert saying that the workflow file cannot be opened on this machine.
What on earth might be going on here?

Get Info on that workflow identifies it as the Photoshop application, with an appropriate size of some 50 MB.
Hmmm, my Adobe Photoshop CS3.app is 59.3MB inside the Package contents, but 217MB for the Package Adobe Photoshop CS3.app
I think you have some corruption, how much I don't know, but...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions...
    Reset Launch Services...
    http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/resetlaunchservices.html#Anchor-Reset-47857
    Reboot.
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.

  • My iPhoto app has disappeared and my iMovie has a question mark through it!?

I went to go onto my iphoto app on my macbook pro today and realised it was missing and imovie has a question mark on the app and won't let me open it can any help me get it back please? I haven't messed with it nor deleted it so haven't got a clue where it has gone or what's happened. I don't want to pay for it as its not cheap and I had it for free on the mac so don't see why I should by it.
    Thanks in advance

I've managed to get them back for all the other people who are having the same problem go onto the app store on your Mac and once it loaded click 'Purchases' with a little price tag by it and look for it in the list and it should be there for you to install it again for free

  • After creating an alias, the App Store application has disappeared from the Launchpad. Huh?!

So, I opened the Applications folder, then selected the App Store application and created an alias of it.
Now, when I activate the Launchpad the original app is nowhere to be found. The alias is there, but the application proper is not displayed.
It IS displayed (as well as the alias) in the Applications folder when I open that in the Finder.
I have no idea how to remedy this. Logging out and back in is fruitless. And a reboot makes no difference.
Any ideas, please?  Any one?  Bueller?  ;-)

Yes. The alias works.  And the App Store application (which is still in the Applications folder) also works.
Interestingly, I just tried a similar thing with the Adobe Reader app...created an alias of the application in the Applications folder. The same thing happened. The Adobe application disappeared from the Launchpad, replaced by the working alias. The fix for that was to delete the alias from the Applications folder. Then copy the Adobe app onto the desktop and finally copy it back into the Applications folder, answering "Replace" the original when prompted.
Of course, when attempting to copy the App Store app back into the Applications folder, the process cannot be completed because the OS says... “App Store” can’t be modified or deleted because it’s required by Mac OS X."

  • My iPhoto library has disappeared and there is no past library for me to import. Where did my pictures go?

I was cleaning up my laptop last night to free up some space. I deleted some unessecary pictures from iphoto and re-organised my events. I then deleted some pictures from 'images' which shows up in 'all my files' - I didn't delete any of the pictures that I kept in my iphoto, but not all my pictures showed up in 'images' anyway. I also then deleted the pictures that were loose in the 'pictures' folder but these were all edits I had done in photoshop not the originals. I emptied my trash before I went to sleep and this morning when I turned on my laptop my iphoto library was gone and there was no past library to import so I had to create a new one. Although I have the pictures from my 'images' folder not all of my pictures are there. Have I lost my pictures for good?

No previous backup?  When you opened iPhoto did you get any error messages?  iPhoto normally stores the images inside /Machintosh HD/Users/YOURNAME/Pictures/iPhoto Library you won't be able to simply look at the images if you go there directly you have to open it with iPhoto.  You can hold the option key > then open iPhoto to make sure you didn't somehow create a different library.

  • Old Firefox's icon and item Name (not blue one) in Application has disappeared suddenly from the screen. How can I retrieve this?

When I clicked "Finder" and "Application", Firefox (old one, not new blue one) icon and Name used to show up in the screen, but no longer. How could I bring them back? There are no difficulty
in running computer, but I cannot update Firefox. Please advise.
    Thank you.

Unfortunately I tried that and it didn't work. Thanks for the help though. I tried to uninstall and it said I couldn't because the file is corrupt or something, but I think I finally got it uninstalled and/or deleted or whatever, but now I try to reinstall/download it again from the beginning and I can't. No matter what I do I can not get Firefox working again. No matter how many times I try to redownload it. Any other suggestions?

  • Mt iPhoto library has disappeared from my laptop after syncing my new iPhone with the laptop. I now have a new iPhoto library with no photos. I have tried pressing option when opening iPhoto but I only get one library option and can't find my old one

My iPhone4s was recently replaced by apple due to grey out on wifi. when I went to sync with my laptop my iPhoto library disapeared and I was left with an empty library. I cannot find my old library on my laptop. I only get one option for a library when i open iPhoto while holding down option key. I am worried I have lost all my photos. there seems ot be no iPhoto library on my iCloud either.
    Any suggestions?

Syncing with an iPhone should not delete the iPhoto library on your mac. It only will upload photos to the phone (iTunes sync) or import (connecting by USB). How did you sync your phone?
TD, do you know of any way, that a sync could delete an iPhoto Library on a Mac?
You may have opened a wrong library or may be working from a different user account. Are you using the same user name and Apple ID as before?
How have you searched for iPhoto libraries? Have you searched with Spotlight?
Each iPhoto library contains a file called "Library6.iPhoto" - even if your iPhoto library should no longer be recognisable as photolibrary, this file should be found:
Type "Library6" into the "Spotlight" search field in the upper right corner of your screen, like this:
When you see a list of files, select one of them and hold down the key combination ⌥⌘ to reveal the path to the file.
If Spotlight cannot find the file in the packages, use "FindAnyFile"  http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile

  • ITunes application has disappeared!

The Start Menu and Desktop shortcuts to start the iTunes application are still there, but when I try to start the program, I get an error message that says, "This action is only compatible with installed components." It seems to be implying iTunes is not installed...where did it go? I didn't uninstall it (that'd be CRAAAZY!). When I go to the apple site to just download iTunes, it will not download. HELP!! I need my iTunes!

    You can't delete it.
Is it on another home screen?
    Do you have restrictions set?

  • My iPhoto application is missing

After a recent system update, my iphoto application has completely disappeared.  I've tried updates, but it says I already have it installed.  I'm using OS X version 10.6.8

what version of the OS do you have? Under the Apple menu ==> about this Mac
    For the Application
reinstall from the original source - If you have OS X 10.6.8 it probably is option 1 - ;ossibly option 2
    Could be
1 - the restore disks that came with the computer
    or
2 - the iLife DVD that you purchased
    or
3 - the app store - log in under the Apple id used to purchase the software or to set up the computer - look under purchases - you might have to unhide or accept the Application first
