IPhoto Auto Import help

I am missing the folder Auto Import. It is not in the package contents area, and I would like to add it to the Finder sidebar, so that I can just drag photos here, to import to iPhoto.

Create a folder action with Automator and add it to a new folder that you create and name as you'd like:
This folder will import to the iPhoto Library that is currently the default library, i.e. the last library opened by iPhoto.  You can place the folder on the Desktop or anywhere you'd like, event the Dock (while located somewhere else).

  • Preventing iPhoto Auto Import

Every time I plug in my iPhone to sync iPhoto opens and asks to import photos. Is there any way to prevent this?
Also, the only reason I ever really sync is to update my calendar. What are the chances of Apple developing a way to do this wirelessly?
    Thanks,
    Jack

    I found it...
Preferences were not loading up in iPhoto, because it was not in the main applications dir but in another dir off the applications tree...
    Anyway cool...

  • Undocumented new command in iPhoto '08: auto import

(cross-posted in the iPhoto '08 area)
According to its scripting dictionary, iPhoto '08 has a new verb, defined as follows:
    *auto import* <specifier>
Start importing photos from the auto-import folder
(Specifier is the object for the command)
I've searched the menus, preferences, and help files and I can find no mention of this command or of any "auto-import folder". Anybody have any idea what this is all about?
Also, I don't understand what to put in the "specifier" field. A reference to an album to receive the imported photos, maybe? What are the options?

I was hoping for an error message with iPhoto Library Manager not iPhoto. It will usually cough something up if it has a problem.
My TM certainly does back up iPhoto. I'm not sure why yours wouldn't. Try post on the TM forum here
    http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1227
for more info and help with that.
Here's my back up strategy: pick and choose as you think fit:
My Library lives on my iMac.
It’s Backed up to two external hard disks every day. These disks are permanently attached to the iMac. These back ups run automatically. One is done by Time Machine, one is a bootable back up done by SuperDuper
It’s also backed up to a portable hard disk when ever new photos are added. This hard disk lives in my car. For security, this disk is password protected. For this job I use DejaVu because it makes a simple back up that is clear and can be tested easily without doing an full restore.
I have a second off-site back up at a relative’s house across town. That’s updated every 3 or 4 months.
My Photos are backed up online. Personally I use SmugMug but there are many options including flickr. However, check the terms of your account carefully. While most sites have free uploading, you will often find that these uploads are limited in terms of the file size, or the bandwidth you can use per month. For access that allows you to upload full size pics with no restrictions you will need to pay.
Every couple of months I test the back ups to make sure they are working correctly. It’s very easy to mis-configure a back up application, and the only way to protect against that is to do a restore.

  • Imovie 09 How do I stop Imovie from auto importing video from iphoto

Imovie 09 How do I stop Imovie from auto importing video from iphoto.
Hi I've done a lot of searches on how to do this but no answers found.
Imovie is beginning to become really slow because of the large number of video's. It takes 3 minutes to startup. Editing is sometimes slow lot's of spinning beach balls e.t.c.
I would like to only import the video I want to edit and hopefully get a quicker Imovie in the process.
My Iphoto library is about 95 Gbyte in size.
My mac has 4 gb ram and I use the internal disk.
Any other ways to work with Imovie/Iphoto are also welcome.
    regards

I won't get iMovie 9 till Tuesday, but based on what you said I may need to take some precautions. One reason I didn't like iMovie 8 is because it automatically imported everything in iPhoto library. What I'm going to do is create a new iPhoto library before importing the photos/videos from the camera. Or if you already have it in your main iPhoto library copy only the photos you'll use in your iMovie 9 project to the new library. Then start iPhoto while pressing the option key which will allow you to select the new iPhoto library you have created. Then I suppose that when you start iMovie 9 it will automatically import only the photos/videos from the new library.

  • IPhoto had a auto import folder. does this exist in photos for mac?

I used image capture to get the photos from my iPhone, so that iPhoto didn't open every time i plugged in. there was an auto import folder in iPhoto which i could dump my photos in, then when i did open iPhoto it would import everything in that folder. is there a folder that will import everything in that folder whenever Photos for Mac is opened?

What does iPhoto do with photos as they are imported?
What you tried was a very complicated and unsupported way to import from one iPhoto library to another.
The safest way would have been either
to use iPhoto Library Manager to export a new library from the old one
or to export the original files using iPhoto and to import the exported files.
But pasting the Masters folder into a temporary "Importing" folder put your photos at risk. The Importing folder is a temporary cache that will be emptied, when an Import has finished.
It started to get very slow and sluggish, so I decided I would move the photos to a new library on the same drive.
It would have probably sufficed to repair or to rebuild the library and safe all your edits and albums, instead of migrating the photos to a new library.
Since you do not have a backup, and your Masters folder got erased, I recommend to stop using the drive with your library immediately and to try data recovery software, for example Disk Drill. It has a free trial mode.

  • Question About Using iPhoto With Sony Wireless Auto Import

I just bought a Sony DSC-RX100M2 and I'm very excited about the prospect of sending my photos wirelessly to my Retina MacBook Pro OSX 10.9.1.
I use iPhoto but I just know the basics.
I just imported 2 test pictures.
I can find them in Finder: My Home folder has a folder called Pictures.  Sony placed a folder there called 2-14-14 (i.e. today's date), and the two pictures were in that folder.
I opened iPhoto and imported those pictures into my photo library.  Great.
Now the question.  Once these pictures have been imported into my photo library, can I delete the 2-14-14 folder (and its contents) created by the Sony import?  It seems that I can, and the pictures are still in my photo library.  But if that is the case, where are the pictures?
Mind you, I don't really need to "know" where the files are.  I just need to be assured that after I import a photo into the photo library, I can delete the original folder where the import came in from my camera (which I think I've just proven to myself that I can?).
I'm sorry, this is probably basic stuff for most iphoto users, but I just want to make sure that I do not accidentally trash any photos.
    Thanks

    Yes

As you said - in your iPhoto library
see the user tip on accessing your iPhoto files for details on accessing them

  • Auto import from SD card with iPhoto

    Hi there,
is there anyways to set up iphoto to automatically import new photos once I insert my sd card in the media reader?
Sometimes I just can't recall if I've imported pictures taken previously or not, I would rather have iphoto to import all new
pictures automatically. Can this be done and how do I set it up?

I guess I'm the first person who ever wished for better documentation of AppleScript.

FWIW there's also an Automator workflow that can be assigned to any folder that will import any photo dropped into the folder. You can also have the folder delete the photos after the import is complete. It's easier to setup than an Applescript IMO.

  • Images stuck in Auto Import

Two images files  I was working on are stuck in Auto import into iphoto. They will not import into iphoto nor can I delete them. Everytime I try to use Adobe or iphoto it try's to import. Any help would be very welcome

To get rid of them you will need to find that auto import folder and delete them. If you search for the name in spotlight, then do Show All, when you click on a name you should see the file path to it at the bottom of the finder window, like this:
If you double click the name of the enclosing folder it will open and you can see the file to delete it. In my example if I want to get rid of roykitchen.jpg, double clicking the roykitchen folder name will show it to me.

  • Auto import, how to prevent LR from jumping to new pictures

    Hi,
I would like to use my Nikon D700 together with the WT-4 to send pictures automatically to my laptop on events.
The pictures appear on the laptop's hard drive on a folder that is watched by LR's auto import feature.
Then my assistant would be at the laptop printing these pictures for customers to buy.
However, while testing this I cannot seem to disable Lightroom always jumping back to the latest imported pictures.
This is very annoying, because my assistant has to display the pictures to the customers, so she would be showing some pictures to a customer, and suddenly when I snap a new shot, the laptop jumps to the new picture and my assistant has to go hunting for that customers pictures again...
Is there some way to disable this?
Or am I taking the wrong approach to this?
I could off course disable the auto-import but in that case my assistant would have to go to the import screen every once in a while, which is also not ideal.
    Thanks for any help!

I don't know a way to disable this.

  • How do I stop iMovie 11 auto importing from external HD?

Okay, I'm going crazy. I, the intrepid Googler, have so far been unable to find the answer to this question. Please somebody help me!
I have hundreds of video clips stored on an external hard drive. However, when I crank it up, iMovie exceptionally irritatingly starts auto-importing every single clip back onto my MacBook's hard drive. No! No! NOOOO! That's NOT what I want! Stop it! Stop it! Stop it! I only want to import ONE video of MY choice at a time to edit and then save it back to the external drive, I don't have enough ROOM for ALL of them on the internal drive, you crazy machine!!!!
So. I go into iMovie preferences, where I'd expect to see an option for turning off auto import. Nope. I cannot see anything there. Do I have menu blindness? Am I losing my mind?
Then I Google 'how to stop iMovie 11 from auto-importing from external hard drive and find nothing. Am I alone in this? Surely not. Am I being a dunce? Possibly.
    Advice, anyone?

Okay. Please ignore the above. I was being a dunce. Today, it appears not to be doing it any more. Bizarre. LOL!

  • I am trying to upload my photos to iphoto. I keep receiving a error message that say "Iphoto cannot import your photos because there was a problem downloading an image" What do i Do?!

I am trying to upload my photos to iphoto. I keep receiving a error message that say "Iphoto cannot import your photos because there was a problem downloading an image" What do i Do?!

Remember: we cannot see your machine. There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 8 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS.  So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Basic things like :
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For instance: 'iPhoto won't export' is best explained by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.
    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • Iphoto 6 Import Problem

    Howdy All,
Every time I import a set of photos into Iphoto, the import function locks up at the end of the import, thus requiring me to force quit the program (when I just simply try to quit, i get a window telling me the import process is still going on).
When I re-open the program, my photos are properly imported and I can go along my merry way, but it's frustrating having to do this (force quit & exit) every time. Any ideas what the cause of this is and what the solution is?
    Thanks All.

    Howdy.
A rebuild of the database might help. Hold the Option and Command keys while launching iPhoto. Check the first 3 choices and leave it to work for a while.
Those force quits could eventually corrupt your database file. To protect yourself, make a duplicate of the file called Library6.iPhoto which is inside your iPhoto Library folder. (Do this in Finder.) Move the copied file out of the iPhoto library. Then if your library does have a catastrophic failure, you can replace that file with the one you backed up and restore your library.
