IPhoto Auto open/import
Everytime I connect my new iPhone 3G to my Mac (running Tiger) - it syncs and opens iPhoto.
iPhoto then invites me to import all the images on the iPhone.
Can I do one of two things:
1) Can I stop iPhoto from opening on connection?
or
2) Is it possible to have iPhoto open on connection and automatically import the NEWEST photos only to a specific album?
I am running iPhoto 06
I also have the same question. It's a bit annoying to have iPhoto open every time I connect my iPhone to sync w/my laptop when I haven't taken any new photos w/it.

How to remove iPhoto auto open when device connects with USB?
Hi
When I connect any device using USB cable (mobile, tablet) on my Mac PC , iPhoto starts up and hangs my system for sometime ...
Thank You.Hello there wasylultra,
It sounds like your computer is becoming unresponsive whenever you plug in any USB device that has or takes photos, because iPhoto launches automatically and takes a while to open. You can change this preference in iPhoto itself to open either iPhoto, Image Capture, or no application at all when you connect a device:
iPhoto '11: Change what happens when you connect a camera to your computer
To choose the application that opens:
Make sure no cameras are connected to your computer.
Choose iPhoto > Preferences, and then click General.
Choose an option from the “Connecting camera opens” pop-up menu.
The title of the article mentions iPhoto '11 but the same steps hold true for iPhoto 2013.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

IPhoto always opens asking to import photos from Touch
Hello,
Each time I connect the Touch to my Mac, iPhoto automatically opens, as if a camera is connected to the computer, asking if I want to import photos from the Touch?
How to disable this feature? What I want to do is export
Thanks,
Neiltookyfes, I don't get an icon. The window does name my iPod Touch, but there is no option for "No application." Elsewhere in Image Capture preferences, "No application" can be selected for when any camera is connected to the computer. Then iPhoto no longer opens when Touch is connected, but my real camera doesn't open iPhoto like it used to. It's a mystery, considering the Touch is not even a camera (yet).
Thanks for the reply, but I think this may be a glitch in the software somewhere. iPhoto should not be assuming the Touch is a camera. -

Since upgrading to Mavericks my iMac no longer recognizes my digital camera. iPhoto will open, but my camera never appears in the source list or goes into import mode. Help!
I found that if you open iMage Capture App that seems to trigger iPhoto to open and thew camera is connected. At least that happens with my camera. Good luck.

My iPhoto finally opened thanks to OT. But it won't import new photos from my camera when I insert the card into the card reader.
OT == Old Toad
Lady Cady - look using the finder - are there photos on the card? Will Image capture (in your applications folder) see any photos?

Import Dialog will not auto open - Lightroom 4.1
Since I upgraded to Lightroom 4.1 from 3 the Import Dialog screen will not auto open when I insert a memory Cart to my Imac.
I have the correct box ticked in the preferences.I have performed all of the above and I still can't get Lightroom 4.2 to open to the Import screen when inserting a memory card. If LR is already open and then a card is inserted...yes the Import screen opens. If LR is 'Quit' (closed) and a card is then connected Lightroom opens to the Library, but not the Import screen. I have also tried to delete the preferences files and restart, but I'm unsuccessful with multiple tries there too.Running a Macbook Pro 10.6.8. Lightroom 4 opens as desired—connect card via card reader, LR launches and opens to the Import screen—on my iMac 10.7.4.

IPhoto won't import Nikon D70 raw files after upgrade to Leopard
I recently upgraded to Leopard, and yesterday, I hooked my Nikon D70 up to the computer. iPhoto auto starts, and tells me that there are pictures to import. When I click the import button, iPhoto tells me that it is importing the photos, (which are in Nikon raw format) but in fact, it is not. The photos don't "flash" across the screen as they are being imported as they used to. When iPhoto thinks it is done, there are no new photos on my hard drive. A spotlight search confirms that fact.
Jpeg photos still import just like they used to. Only raw photos don't import.
If I manually open iPhoto, and click on file then import, I can find my cameras CF card, and highlight the photos I want to import, and iPhoto will then import raw photos. It won't import them with the simple attach the camera, one click import that I have grown used to. My D70 is a supported camera for iPhoto, and it used to work in OSX 10.4. Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere?
Thanks in advance for any help offered.I had the same prob with my mac and my D70.
I did an upgrade to leopard from tiger. After that, iPhoto would not import photos. The camera and pics would show up in the app, and would let me try an import, but it would come up with an error saying "20 photos were in an incompatible format and could not be imported".
Since upgrading to Leopard, image capture wouldn't work either. App would run and then wouldn't. Would crash and error. Wouldn't import photos at all either.
I was able to manually drag photos from my camera to the desktop and then import into iPhoto.
iPhoto wasn't the only thing playing up on my mac (networking, file permissions, backlit keyboard, software update, ffmpeg app were all problematic), so I backed up everything I wanted to keep to an external drive and did an erase and install of Leopard. This has fixed practically every problem I had. Do the same if you can, cos it has made my mac a pleasure to use again. -
I imported 100 photos from my camera (Canon) into iphoto. The importation went well, and when I was watching the photos, suddenly iphoto crashed. I restarted iphoto and realized that the photos had disapered. The events are availbble into iphoto but they are empty, the photos have dispeared. I can not believe they disapeared as they have been imported and read once, they must be hidden somewhere on the disk? Is there a way to find where they are?
Assuning you're running iPhoto 9 or later try the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window.
2 - Run Option #4, Rebuild Database.

IPhoto will not import certain JPG files
I have just migrated to a 2012 Retina 15" MacBook Pro from a 13" MBP. I am using Mavericks 10.9.1 and iPhoto 9.5.1. The MBP is a 2.7gHz quad core with 16GB of memory and a 768GB SSD. I was trying to tidy up my hard disc and import some .jpg files from the output folder on my Capture One Session. iPhoto will not import certain jpg files but will import others. The message I get is as follows The following file could not be imported. The file is an unrecognised format. Then shows below for example /Users/xxxx/Pictures/Capture One Session/Output/L1000212.jpg.
I first tried creating a new library and importing to that with no success. I then rebuilt the database. I repaired permissions. I deleted the iPhoto.plist and its caches and restarted - no success. I then deleted iPhoto and reinstalled from App Store after deleting the plist and caches again. Still no luck. The .jpg files in question open perfectly in Photoshop CC and Preview. I tried altering them slightly and resaving but still they would not import. I reinstalled Mavericks - no improvement. If I reconvert the files from the original DNG's into TIFF files, then they will import to iPhoto
Any ideas anyone?
WilsonI just recorded an action in Photoshop CC to assign ProPhoto colourspace save and close. Then copied all the problem jpegs into a temp file and ran the action. With this super fast machine, It only took a few minutes to convert 500+ files and they have now all imported perfectly. I have changed my JPEG recipe to convert DNG's from embedded to ProPhoto.
Thanks again. Colourspace would never have occurred to me.

Iphoto unable to import images from card or from desktop
A recent update to the operating system for my imac with Maverick has rendered my iphoto incapable of importing images, creates a mirror shift of the frontpage as it is opened up and requires a long time for iphoto to open. When I try to import a photo from the desktop or from a card the program spins into dysfunction and I am forced to force quit. Program functionality seems to be impaired as I look for images, select, etc. Permissions verified and fixed in Utility disk. Restart computer several times.....I would be grateful for assistance. Kind regards to the community.....HP
Well that suggests the issue is with the main Library. So
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Upgrade iPhoto to open iPhoto library after installing iLife 6
I am a real computer novice and just installed iLife6, which I should not have done because now I have no access to my iPhoto library. It tells me I need to upgrade iPhoto to open the library so I selected "upgrade." Then it tells me there is a problem with some of the files and I need to go to Finder, click Get Info and be sure ownership & permissions are Read & Write in the iPhoto Library. I have tried that repeatedly but it tells me I don't have privileges for all I am trying to access. But I am an administrator on the computer, and every possible file I have opened is now Read & Write. But I continue to be stalled out and still cannot open iPhoto Library. I tried copying the iPhoto library to another computer with iLife 6 already installed, and it tells me some of the files in iPhoto can't be imported because they are in iPhoto Library. I am so confused, and now would like to just remove iLife6 from this computer to get back to my original iPhoto so I can access these Photos but I don't know how to do that either. Does anyone have any ideas at all that can help me please?
svbp:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Give this a try:download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, putting your administrator login name, long or short, in the owner and group sections. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field. Launch iPhoto and try to update the library again.
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

I have a TON of packages in my /Library/Receipts/ folder. Is is okay to clean out all of those packages? Or are they needed? I'm thinking it could save space on the hard drive.
