Iphoto backup problem

My macbook is stuck at the grey logo apple screen, i tried every possible way to get it through but it didnt work. Then i decided to just backup my harddisk, and try to format. After backing up almost every documents and files, im stuck with trying to backup the iphoto. I cant seem to copy, or open the iphoto file and access the photos inside, its got more that 300gb worth of pictures and memories =(. How can i solve this problem?

How are you trying? Where does it go wrong? Details...
There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 10 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
- What version of iPhoto.
- What version of the Operating System.
- Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
- History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
- What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
- Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

iMoive and iPhoto are not free apps. If you purchased them on your iPhone they should available to download again on your new iPhone.

Yes.
Choose Apple menu > Restart. Hold down the Command (⌘) and R keys as your computer restarts.
When you see a white screen with an Apple logo in the middle, you can release the keys.
Click Disk Utility, and then click Continue.
In the list at the left, select the item you want to repair. (Be sure to select an item that’s indented to the right in the list, not an item at the far left.)
Click First Aid.
If Disk Utility tells you the disk is about to fail, back it up and replace it. You can’t repair it.
Click Repair Disk.
If Disk Utility reports that the disk appears to be OK or has been repaired, you’re done.
Otherwise, you may need to do one of the following steps.
If Disk Utility can’t repair your disk or it reports “The underlying task reported failure,” try to repair the disk or partition again. If that doesn’t work, back up as much of your data as possible, reformat the disk, reinstall Mac OS X, and then restore your backed-up data.
If you continue to have problems with your disk, it may be physically damaged and need to be replaced

Backup Problem with only Production Server

Hi all
Here i have backup problem in only production server. In my tape drive device all schedule backup of Development server and Quality Server and Production server . In this i get all backup in Development and Quality server, But in Production server backup was fail and not only one all backup is fail from last 2 days . So can u tell me what is the problem with my production server and how can i find it in production.
And any hardware issue or OS issue is responsible for this.
Please help me out.

IPhoto backups to iCloud with iPad

Hi. I use iPhoto only with my iPad and I have also activeted iCloud. I also use the photo journals of iPhoto which I share in iCloud. I know that iCloud bacups the camera roll album. I think that the shared photo journals should have been backuped in iCloud but how is with the original photos which I have used in the photo journals? In iPhoto there is also an album called "Modified", is that backuped in iCloud?

I am still wondering when I look at iCloud statistics (iCloud>Storage,backups>Storage>Documents and data) it says that in iCloud there is documents and data 798,5 Mb from iPhoto. What data is this?
When I look iCloud statistics (iCloud>Storage,backups>Storage>Backups>My iPad) it says that the sizes of backups are: Camera roll 1,3 Gb and iPhoto 1,6Gb. This 1,6 Gb must include some photos, it can't be only the size of iPhoto application?

When will apple have iPhoto backup plans? I want to be able to backup my photos in iCloud that I don't take with my iPhone.

1. Apple are not "trying to remove the user form managing files and directories". Don't you understand that with a lossless processor there is no processed file? None. It has to be created by exporting from the database. So, how would surfing the stored files help there? For more on this see Adobe's Lightroom, not made by Apple but also a lossless processor. You're still confusing your file with your Photo. You still don't know the difference between an editor and a lossless processor.
2. If you can't see that searching by filename, title, any number of exif metadata entries, keywords, date, processing status, camera model, location where the photo was taken, faces in the photo, text in the captions etc, in both iPhoto and in every single Open... or Attach... dialogue is more flexible and makes your photos more available in every single other application on your computer as somehow more difficult that rooting around in files and folders, there is little to say to you. If you're happy with storing 100k of files in a system of folders and think you can access the preferred one based on your memory of the filename, then my hat's off to you. iPhoto offers more ways to search your photos and makes them available in every app on your Mac than files-in-folders. That's indisputable. Yes there is a learning curve. Most folks read that article once.

This is not true. What I said was that there is none that I would trust, and none that deal with the speed issue. But there are lots of services out there if these things are not a concern for you.

Well that's also true of Windows and Linux, Unix et al. Every OS has an eco system that it works best with. Ever try write to a Mac OS Extended (Journaled) disk with WIndows?

No you most certainly are not. This is a huge assumption and not at all true. iPhoto is an application that you can choose to use. Or not. You can use Picasa for Mac, Aperture, Lightroom, Bridge or just the base file system, or any of 50 other apps to manage your Photos. You are not forced to use iPhoto. Using a Mac does not mean you are comitted to using iPhoto. Just like using Windows does not mean you're committed using Internet Explorer. It's a choice you make.
Once you do that you are now limited on what your back-up options are.

In Iphoto 11 all 7000 of my photos show the same thumbnail. I rebuilt the thumbnail using ctr alt and opening iPhoto. This worked and rebuilt the thumbnails correctly. Then when I reopened iPhoto the problem came back? Help please?

Where is your Library stored?

There is a way to find and recover individual photos from a Time Machine backup.
1 - dowload and launch Find Any File.
2 - select the Time Machine hard drive in FAF's Find Items menu.
3 - enter the full file name of the photo you want to recover into FAF and use the Find button.
NOTE: it will take a while for FAF to retrieve and display the results of the search due to the nature of how TM makes its backups. 30 seconds or so is normal.
4 - select the file in the Masters folder and use the Space bar to verify it's the one you want with Quickview.
5 - drag the file from the FAF window to your Desktop.
6 - repeat for each photo you need to restore.

Minimal iPhoto Backup?

I use an cloud backup service and am trying to minimize the size and bandwidth of my iPhoto backups. Do I need to backup the entire iPhoto library? Every time I add a photo it wants to backup the thumbXX.data files which are as big as 150MB each. Can I exclude these safely and reconstitute them from the actual photos in case of an emergency? What are the minimal library subfolders I need to backup to ensure no pictures are lost?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
It depends on what you want to back up.
If you want to back up the +iPhoto Library+ then you must keep all of the constituent parts up-to-date. A service that does Incremental back ups will just back up the elements that have changed since the last back up.
If you simply want to back up the photos (and none of the organisation, slideshows, books etc.) then simply export the newest additions and back those up.
As to the specific question about the thumbXX.data files. A little trial and error is in order here. Simply, create a small library. Back it up and exclude these files. Then restore the back up and open the Library. Does iPhoto recreate them?

Iphoto slow problem - photos are organised in folders not film rolls

I'm suffering from the iphoto slow problem and have been trying to find a way to stop iphoto from loading all the photos every time.
My photos are arranged in folders, so I don't seem to have the option to stop the photos being loaded by film roll.
Does anyone have any other ideas ?

I'm not sure what that means. Whether you have albums or not, iPhoto still considers a single import batch as a roll. If the rolls are not collapsed, then everytime you launch iPhoto, it assumes you want to be able to see your entire library, and it goes about the job of making all the thumbnails available.

I’m sorry to hear that there is battery backup issue in your S400 Laptop, I suggest you to change the power plan, reduce the brightness and then check if the issue persists also please let me know the OS (Operating System) installed in the computer.

Can't copy photos from iPhoto backup DVD - Privileges Problem

I have created several DVD backups of photos from iPhoto, but when I open the DVDs and try to copy and paste photos it says that I can't because I don't have sufficient privileges. I know about the possibility of clicking on the "sharing and permissions" and "Ignoring ownership on this volume" tabs from the get info section, but it is not possible for me as the DVD's info comes up with that area translucent, thus I can see those options but have no possibility of choosing any of them in "sharing and permissions".
Does anyone know a way to overcome this?
Does this mean I have to do something like use SUDO commands or something else complicated just to copy and paste photos from DVDs???
Is there not an option to make backup DVDs on iPhoto which are copyable?
Why would anyone backup photos so that they can't be accessed to copy and paste?

If you made the Back Ups with iPhoto's Share -> Burn command then when you insert the Disk into the Mac it will appear in the iPhoto Window. Drag the Events from the Disk to the Library heading in the iPhoto Window to restore them.

IPhoto backup to EHD problem

Hello. I have a late 2010 MB Air running OSX 10.9.4 and iPhoto 9.5.1. I have an EHD that is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled). I copied my iPhoto library to the EHD at set up iPhoto to use the EHD using the option key as I opened iPhoto. When I open iPhoto, it looks like all the pictures are there but there are no thumbs. When I try and open a picture I get a triangle with an exclamation point in the middle. If I try and open a video it says: "The operation couldn’t be completed. (OSStatus error -54.)"
Any suggestions?

Try dragging the iPhoto library to the EHD again - maybe there was a bad copy
How is the EHD connected to your MBA? It should be using a hard wired cable connection

IPhoto '08 problem with CMYK photos

I notice something on iPhoto 06 and 08, when i use a photo in RGB mode the colors look great, but if i use a CMYK photo looks very bad...

The iLife apps are consumer level applications targeted at the general population and designed for easiest use. . For professionals Apple provides a series of pro applications that will work with a greater number of file formats, etc. iPhoto is not geared towards the professional as it does not nearly fit the DAM (Digital Asset Management) requiements for good image management. CMYK has never been supported by iPhoto. CMYK if more for the high end printers that professionals use.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

Iphoto reinstall problems

Hi, after numerous problems with "Mavericks" I have ditched it and returned to "Mountain Lion" however, whilst I have been able to rescue "pages", "numbers" etc, I am unable to return to the "mountain lion" version of iphoto. Can anyone offer any suggestions as to how to reinstall an older version of iphoto - one that will operate with Mountain Lion?

Restore the iPhoto app from your last Time Machine backup from before the upgrade to iPhoto. You cannot download a full version of iPhoto '11 from Apple's Support pages or the App Store, if you already upgraded to Mavericks and iPhoto 9.5.1.
How did you originally buy iPhoto? If it came preinstalled with an older system (MacOS 10.6), then you will find an iPhoto '11 installer on your system install media with the bundled application. If you bought an iLife '11 installer, use that.
Other than that, your only option would be to buy iPhoto again ( aniLIfte '11 install DVD) or solve the issues with Mavericks on your system and use the iPhoto 9.5.1 you have.
