Iphoto backup storage. HELP!

hi, I have about 20,000 pictures in iphoto. i own a WD external harddrive and it hates me (i dont think it has backed up any of my photos) it is also really confusing. i need online storage. any recommendation? or another external hardrive that is actually extremely easy to use? Please help!

Yes I agree I hard drive is a hard drive. However, mine is 1TB and is telling me, one I don't have enough space and in its subcategories it says I only have 6gb of pictures which is clearly impossible. It there a hard drive that is more suitable for macs where you can see the actual content being backed up? Thank you.

Can you help me on something? I restored my iPod and everything I had was gone. (What I Wanted) But then when I looked at my Usage It said I only have 22.5 GB Available and I Used 6.0 But I didn't. I also looked at my Backup storage and it still had all of my backup from before I restored. I deleted all my backup because it said I used all of my Backup Available. And now when I try and backup it says there is no more room or whatever to backup and Its 5/5.

No app on the iOS device is required.
    - If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod/iPhone/iPad on the iOS device in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected or cellular data is on and connected for, on a computer browser go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up or continue to show off-line.
    - You can also wipe/erase the iOS device and have the device play a sound via iCloud.

    iCloud: Use Lost Mode
    - If not shown, then you will have to use the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
    - Change the passwords for all accounts used on the device and report to police and carrier if iPhone or cellular iPad
    - There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the erase (it erases it) using it unless you had iOS 7 or later on the device. With iOS 7 or later, one has to enter the Apple ID and password to restore the device.

  • Iphoto storage help!

Hi everyone I am in desperate need of an answer please! I hope this makes sense.
I purchased a MacBook Air 1 year ago and can't imagine ever going back.
I own a childcare business and I need to store photo's on there everyday to docuent evidence of learning. With this being said it takes up alot of space on my hardrive.
I have been getting a warning that there is no memory left and then today it said that I couldn't even save a file.
I have a time machine so all my files are backed up to that but not sure if that backs up iPhoto.
I know I could put all my photo's on the Time machine however the reason I wanted the MacBook Air was I liked the iPhoto as it helps me manange the photo's under each child's name. It would be an impossible task otherwise. If I did save all my photo's to time machine it would undo all the names and I would loose all the fuctions of iphoto. I know I could open in Iphoto but essentially that would just be popping them back on there. I have gone through and delete what I can but only have 7.11 GB left. I have moved all my files of at this stage but I need to be able to have my computer running well at all times.
    Here are my Questions.
Is ther a way I can move my photo's of my computer and be able to open them in Iphoto on the timemachine so all my named photo's stayed named etc.?
I have include a pic of my storage and as you can see! I am almost out of time! I have so much work to do and really need to sort this out!
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thankyou for your help.
    Tracey

You get a USB external dirve and put the Library on it.
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
Time Machine is a piece of software. You don't put anythng "on" Tim Machine.

  • WBAdmin BMR backup says "There is not enough free space on the backup storage location to back up the data."

We're doing nightly BMR backups of a small 2012 R2 Hyper-V host via wbadmin to 2TB USB disks, via
wbadmin start backup -backupTarget:z: -quiet -noverify -vssFull -include:e:,c: -allCritical
(where E: contains the sole VM).
We are using the same backup system on other similar Hyper-V hosts running 2008 R2 and 2012, with no problems. However, with this 2012 R2 host, after a few months of no problems the backups started failing with:
There is not enough free space on the backup storage location to back up the data.
This made no sense, and continues to make no sense:
The 2TB backup disks are only half full (>1TB free), with 600GB of unallocated shadowstorage.
There should be room for many more backups on these disks. Each currently contains 11 to 13 backups, with the initial full backup having required about 600GB and each subsequent backup only requiring another 20GB to 40GB.
There is over 40GB free on the C: drive and 300GB free on the E: drive; free space on the host volumes is not an issue.
Increasing the shadowstorage limit on the backup disks to unbounded doesn't resolve the issue.
This is not a problem of a RECOVERY partition that's too small, and SystemState backups always complete successfully.
The first workaround we found was to temporarily reduce (not increase) the shadowstorage allocation on the E: drive (containing the VM) and then increase it back (with the end result of deleting old shadow copies).
This worked reliably, but looking for a root cause led us to uninstall the Windows Updates installed mid-September (in particular the Aug 2014 and Sep 2014 roll-ups), which preceded the start of this problem. But instead of resolving the problem the uninstalls
made it worse, in that our workaround stopped working.
We reinstalled the Windows Updates, and then tried setting backup performance to normal, in case the problem was related to VSS on the host volumes, but the errors continued.
At this point the only way we've found to work around the error is to delete 1 or 2 of the oldest backups on the destination disk, via
      wbadmin delete backup -backupTarget:z: -deleteOldest
after which the new backup will succeed.
But, again, this makes no sense, as the destination disks are only half full, and even if space was an issue wbadmin should delete old backups as required. And this same system is working fine on 2008 R2 and 2012.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    John

    Hi John,
Please check run the command below to check if the space required to complete the backup causes the snapshot storage space to become less than 1/8 of the target size.
vssadmin list shadows /for=x: will list the shadow copies on x: and creation time.
WSB will not shrink the diff area to less than 1/8 of Target volume size as we do not want to lose all past backups just to accommodate this one.

If you have iPhoto '09, you cannot browse or restore seleted items from your backups.  See the pink box in #15 of Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.
Mail should work, however, per the blue box there.

  • IPhoto backups to iCloud with iPad

Hi. I use iPhoto only with my iPad and I have also activeted iCloud. I also use the photo journals of iPhoto which I share in iCloud. I know that iCloud bacups the camera roll album. I think that the shared photo journals should have been backuped in iCloud but how is with the original photos which I have used in the photo journals? In iPhoto there is also an album called "Modified", is that backuped in iCloud?

I am still wondering when I look at iCloud statistics (iCloud>Storage, backups>Storage>Documents and data) it says that in iCloud there is documents and data 798,5 Mb from iPhoto. What data is this?
When I look iCloud statistics (iCloud>Storage, backups>Storage>Backups>My iPad) it says that the sizes of backups are: Camera roll 1,3 Gb and iPhoto 1,6Gb. This 1,6 Gb must include some photos, it can't be only the size of iPhoto application?
Who can really explain what data and photos does iPhoto backup?

  • Online backup storage for 10.2.8

Just wondering if anyone knows of an online backup storage site for my 10.2.8? I've checked out mosy, carbonite, ibackup and a few others. Can't seem to find one that will work with 10.2.8. And, if anyone does know of one I have another question...will I also be able to backup my external HD...or maybe even only my external HD. I have all my pictures on it. If I lose my computer, that can be replaced. My pictures cannot.
    Thanks for your help.
    Cayleen

    Cayleen:
I do not use online storage, so I am not familiar with the scene. I have two external firewire HDDs to which I clone my entire HDD. I do this on a rotating basis, so if one becomes corrupted, I have a previous one on which to fall back. Some people maintain three backups, and keep one off-site. For photos and music you may want to archive them on CDs or DVDs. If you are interested in using a strategy similar to the one I outlined, please post back for details. Dr. Smoke's FAQ Backup and Recovery has excellent tips on backing up.
Incidentally, why are you still running Jaguar? Your computer will support Panther (10.3.9) or Tiger (10.4.11). I suggest you consider upgrading your OS. You will find it so much more efficient and stable.

  • IPhoto backup plans?

When will apple have iPhoto backup plans? I want to be able to backup my photos in iCloud that I don't take with my iPhone.

    1. Apple are not "trying to remove the user form managing files and directories". Don't you understand that with a lossless processor there is no processed file? None. It has to be created by exporting from the database. So, how would surfing the stored files help there? For more on this see Adobe's Lightroom, not made by Apple but also a lossless processor. You're still confusing your file with your Photo. You still don't know the difference between an editor and a lossless processor.
    2. If you can't see that searching by filename, title, any number of exif metadata entries, keywords, date, processing status, camera model, location where the photo was taken, faces in the photo, text in the captions etc, in both iPhoto and in every single Open... or Attach... dialogue is more flexible and makes your photos more available in every single other application on your computer as somehow more difficult that rooting around in files and folders, there is little to say to you. If you're happy with storing 100k of files in a system of folders and think you can access the preferred one based on your memory of the filename, then my hat's off to you. iPhoto offers more ways to search your photos and makes them available in every app on your Mac than files-in-folders. That's indisputable. Yes there is a learning curve. Most folks read that article once.
Sorry but you make enormous assumptions, and they are incorrect.
So the bottom line is that there is not a current way to back-up your iPhotot library online.
This is not true. What I said was that there is none that I would trust, and none that deal with the speed issue. But there are lots of services out there if these things are not a concern for you.
The thing about them though is that it is always way easier to use them when you are immersed in the Aple ecosystem
Well that's also true of Windows and Linux, Unix et al. Every OS has an eco system that it works best with. Ever try write to a Mac OS Extended (Journaled) disk with WIndows?
In this case though when you commit to a Mac computing platform you are commitiing your pictures into iPhoto
No you most certainly are not. This is a huge assumption and not at all true.  iPhoto is an application that you can choose to use. Or not. You can use Picasa for Mac, Aperture, Lightroom, Bridge or just the base file system, or any of 50 other apps to manage your Photos. You are not forced to use iPhoto. Using a Mac does not mean you are comitted to using iPhoto. Just like using Windows does not mean you're committed using Internet Explorer. It's a choice you make.
Once you do that you are now limited on what your back-up options are.
    No you are not.
So, notwithstanding your disappointment, you really need to look at what is in front of you. You have half a grasp of the possibilities and are then leaping to editorialising, and frankly, quite incorrectly.

  • I need to get back individually erased photos and videos from my iMac with no backups to help. Please help

i need to get back individually erased photos and videos from my iMac with no backups to help. this is an attempt to consolidate all my data, new and old so I can uninstall Maverick and put Mountain Lion back on my iMac.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If the files have been overwritten and you don't have a backup, they're gone.
If they have not been overwritten, then there are third-party apps (for example Techtool Pro 7 ) with data recovery functions that might be able to retrieve some or all of your files.
    Backing up is good.

  • HT5527 I have "My Passport" which is a backup storage.  Do I need to upgrade my iCloud storage

I have "My Passport" whiich is a backup storage.  Do I need to upgrade my storage in i Cloud?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
As far as I know, with "My Passport" you are referring to one of the Western Digital external drives. Is this correct? In that case, you are backing up to the external drive, not iCloud, because you can't back up a Mac on iCloud.
You don't need more iCloud storage if you are plenty of free space in it. Open System Preferences > iCloud, and check how much free storage you have. In general, if you are only using iCloud on a Mac, you don't need more iCloud storage, so you can keep the 5 GB storage

  • I manually deleted my iphone photos through windows explorer now it wont sync new music or backup. any help please?

i manually deleted my iphone photos through windows explorer now it wont sync new music or backup. any help please?

If those photos were part of the camera roll, they were part of the backup as well and you can restore from the latest backup you made on the old computer. After that transfer the photos to the new PC, follow this article: iOS: Importing personal photos and videos from iOS devices to your computer
Then sync again to the new one, which will erase the phone again.
You can also try to copy the backup folder from the old computer to the new one and see if the old backups get recognized, check this article to find the location on your PC:
Create and delete iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch backups in iTunes
If the photos were not taken with the phone, your data is gone, photos you sync from iTunes to the phone are not included in the backup.

Has your phone ever been hacked or jailbroken. This error message is what usually shows up for that. Are you using a supported carrier for the iPhone, or did someone hack the phone to unlock it to be used on another carrier. If that is the case, then there is no help you can get here as discussing hacked/jailbroken devices is not allowed.
