IPhoto batch change is choosing date modified rather than date created

Hello all,
I have a large number of MOV files which I have imported into iPhoto. I want to batch change them all, renaming them to the footage date and time.
iPhoto has chosen the date last modified rather than date created to rename them to. When in Finder and open Inspector, it does have the correct date created.
I can adjust date and time and tick the box to modify the original file for each one but given the quantity I have to do, I would rather the batch change pick up on the date creted.
Any ideas on how I can get iPhoto to do this correctly?
I have spent some time searching online and haven't had any luck so far.
I am using iPhoto 11 v.9.4.3 if it makes a difference.
Thanks all
Andrew

iPhoto can only change the date on image files which have EXIF fields.  Movie files don't have EXIF fields so you'll need to do the job outside of iPhoto with an application that can change the file created date like  A Better Finder Attributes 5: Mac OS X Batch Date Changer for EXIF Photos, Files and Folders
or
File Date Changer: Change file creation and modification dates and times for Mac OS X files

How can I store my iPhoto library on an external hard drive rather than the iMac drive to make my computer faster?

Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

Not a problem when using iPhoto on a Mac, which the transfer of photos is primarily based on - not manually managing photo storage as seems to be common with Windoze.
The same should be available with a supported photo management app on a PC.

  • IPhoto Batch Change window is not coming up when selected.

I have been using iPhoto for a couple of years now, and I would consider myself to be an intermediate user of the application. I mention this so that everyone knows that I am not crazy, and simply not doing something wrong. I am trying to perform a batch change of a few images, and when I click on batch change the window with the options will not come up. I made sure I had the latest patches, etc.. I am running the latest OS version, and I am at a loss here. I have tried doing a batch change on a single image, and multiple. I have tried images that I have done batch changes on in the past just to make sure it was not the new image files that were the issue. Nothing works. Please advise...

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Log into another account on your Mac and see it you can get it to come up there. Post back with the results. Have you repaired disk permissions lately?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • IPhoto batch change

    OSX 10.9.2
    iPhoto 9.5.1
I want the Title to contain an identifier like DSCN0277 concatinated with a short description. If I use batch change with Filename I get DSCN0277_12617208544_o, which looks bad. What I want is more like "DSCN0277 Green Frog", for example. Is there a way to use the DSCN0277 part as a variable in Text, such as: "variable Green Frog" to change the Title in bach change?

No. It's just not that flexible. It is in possible in Aperture - pay more get more options.

  • Iphoto batch change, hang up.

I tried to do a "batch change" and iphoto has hung up. Just like a microsoft computer would...
I can not: log out of iphoto, log out of the computer or turn it off.
Any ideas on how to log out or restart iphoto?
    Thanks!

  • Lightroom 4-How to reorganize files by date when choosing to add rather than copy them to Lightroom

My photos were in disorganized folders on different hard drives. I was able to import them into Lightroom 4 using COPY, and now my folders are reorganized by year and month on my hard drive, which is how I want them. However, I now have a copy of my photos in my catalog and a copy of each photo in my photo folder on my hard drive. This is taking up too much space. Is there a way to have Lightroom automatically import my pictures and reorganize them into folders by date using the ADD option rather than the copy option when importing from my hard drive? Thank you!

Meaning that they are still where they were, scattered, and not catalogued in LR.  PLUS, there is a copy of each file in the place you copied them to when you imported them, and these are the versions of the files that are catalogued in LR.  Right?
    You said:

Yes, one set, the original ones, viewable only in Explorer/Finder, the other/duplicate set viewable in LR (and/or also in Explorer/Finder).
You said:  This is taking up too much space.
So just delete the original versions, as long as you are sure that you have them all in the copied-to location (where they are catalogued by LR).

As jd_paige says, next time use MOVE instead of COPY.  If you use ADD, they will remain where they are.  Sometimes it is easier to do it this way, and then move/reorganize them once you have them in the catalogue.

  • How do I view photos in a folder by date taken rather than by date imported?

Hi, I've got some 500 photos in a folder which were imported on two different dates. I've created a new album on the right hand side under "Organize" and just the photos I want are in there. When I look at the folder on the right, all the pictures are there. But I can't call up just that folder; instead what I get on my screen is all 2500 photos in all my photo albums! Not what I want! What I want to get is all the photos in the order in which they were taken on the actual day as all 500 photos were taken at the same day. And I want to be able to view just the 500 photos in that folder by the time those pictures were taken. But, when I imported the second batch of photos it showed the date the file was created rather than the date the photo was taken so, basically, I've got one batch of photos showing the date they were taken (which I downloaded via a link a few days later), and one showing the date they were copied! I've clicked on various tabs on the Organize and Display tabs but can't get it to work so any advice would be appreciated.
    Many thanks.
    Yours sincerely,
    Anthony Armstrong

Once you have all 500 in the album you should be able to use the dropdown menu - there are three choices. Try switching to oldest first. Album order lets you drag into any order of your choice and they remain in fixed positions.

If you are using one of Lightroom's "date-based" folder templates, then the folders are created in accordance with the image capture date, not the date that you happen to import it. If you specifically want to use the import date for your folder names then you probably don't want to use the Lightroom date template, and instead you'll need to setup your folder names manually.
The vast majority of users that use date-based folder naming schemes will use a standard Lightroom template, i.e. based on the much more meaningful image capture date.

  • Why do imessage settings keep changing back to my email rather than my phone number when I didn't change anything?

For some reason my iPhone 5 has been automatically changing my imessage settings to send/receive from my email rather than my phone number.  Even after I go back and correct it the same thing happens again later. Now I cannot receive any texts from a particular number (belongs to iPhone 4 owner) but they can receive mine, how do I fix this???

I assume your phone is using your phone number. Select an E-Mail also. Under the Select Area a new Area should show up offering to choose whether to use the number or the E-Mail to start new conversations. Pick the Phone number. Go to iMessage and start new conversations.

  • Why doesn't Lightroom organise videos/photos lacking "date taken" by "date modified" instead of "date created"?

This still seems to be a problem with Lightroom 5. This post is one of the top results after trying to Google this problem, and it's for LR3. I can't understand why something so fundamental to video (and some photo) organisation has been overlooked for so long.
I've been trying to import and organise all my old photos and videos by date with LR5. They've been backed up and copied many times over the years, most recently to an external drive last week. So every file has a "date created" of last week. But "date modified" remains the original recorded date.
This doesn't matter for photos with a proper EXIF "date taken" - but LR5 looks at the "date created" for videos, making it completely useless for organising them into date-based folders. It puts videos I recorded in 2010 (as per "date modified") into a 2014-12 folder. Why.
It's not just a video problem - some photos I took with devices that didn't record EXIF "date taken" are also filed into folders from this month, even though the "date modified" on them is correct as being from 5 years ago.
How can I rely on LR5 for importing and date-based organisation when it relies on files (lacking "date taken") having never been copied or backed up?

    Hello,
I use exiftool to modify the  Creation and Modification time of the files. After that I use LR "Ajust time" feature to set the time of the movies in LR to the file creation time (last point). This works fine for me.
    For MOV (Quicktime):
    exiftool "-FileModifyDate<TrackCreateDate"  "-FileCreateDate<TrackCreateDate"
    For AVI:
    exiftool "-FileModifyDate<DateTimeOriginal"  "-FileCreateDate<DateTimeOriginal" *.avi
Depnding on your camera (and container format mov, avi) you may also ajust the time zone, e.g.
    exiftool -FileModifyDate+=1 -FileCreateDate+=1 -if "$CameraModelName =~ /EOS 600D/i" *.mov
Which time in the container (MOV, AVI) you use as source, depends on your workflow. I edit my mov files before import. Therfore "CreateDate" is the time when I edited the file. Quicktime and (some) avi file contain a time when the containing stream was created. I use this vaule as source.
exiftool <filename> gives you detailed information about all available times.

  • Cell calculations showing header text rather than data

This has to be simple, but I am stumped.
I have added header text to a SS.  Now when I attempt to add a calculation to a cell in the SS Numbers is showing the text in the calculation rather than the cell data or cell location.
How do I stop this?  Just want to see something like this:  =F13-(E13*4)
    but I get this
=On Hand Now test line-(Monthly Average test line*Cal. 212 West Jackson Street)
Numbers does put the the correct numeric result in the proper cell but I don't want to see the above.

  • Detection method - date modified-greater than issue

    Hi,
My detection method for a file doesn't seem to be working properly. I have an application advertised to run a .cmd file and replace files in an already existing folder. So I am using the date modified of the files I am replacing. When I check the status
of the deployment it states that the machines are already compliant even though the date modified on the file is less than the new file I am trying to deploy.
    Example:
    C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Network\Connections\Cm\Test\test.cms (date modified 9/14/2014)
    My detection rule:
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Network\Connections\Cm\Test\test.cms (Date Modified must be greater than 01.01.2015 00:00:00)
And it is stating that it is compliant even though the detection rule should be returning false?

Date format is seems to be correct, basically it depend on your local date format.
Are you sure that file is exist on the client at expected location. (If file does not exist and existential rule is not added in CI then CI will return to Compliant) If not then make sure that:
you have added existential rule in addition with value rule.
otherwise make sure that you have selected this checkbox "Report noncompliance if this setting instance is not found."

  • Change binding port of Xserver rather than 6000

    Hi Sysop,
Can we change the binding port of Xserver rather than port number 6000 ?
And how we can make it done ?
    Thanks.

    Hi
The configuration files for the Xserver on your host should be in
    /etc/dt/config/Xconfig
    /etc/dt/config/Xservers
If these files have never been customised or don't exist you can copy the default versions of
    these files from
    /usr/dt/config/Xconfig
    /usr/dt/config/Xservers
to /etc/dt/confi, you can then edit them.
From your post it's unclear what you are trying to do, however the 2 config files above have
quite a bit of useful information in them about the various settings for the Xserver.

  • Display returns latest data value rather than maximum data value.

I have requested the Maximum value using the Statistics VI.  The display returns the latest value rather than the maximum.  I think it may have to do with specifying the sample size or data packet size but I don't know how to do that.

You probably are only taking a single reading with the DAQ Assistant and the Statistics function expects an array to determine the max value in that array. There are a couple ways to do what you want. One way is to use the Array Min & Max Single Point function (Signal Processing>Point by Point>Other Functions). This has a sample length input and a reset input. Another way is to create an array with a shift register and use the Statistics function or just the Array Min & Max function. You could limit the size of the array with Array Subset for example.
