IPhoto batch change

OSX 10.9.2
iPhoto 9.5.1
I want the Title to contain an identifier like DSCN0277 concatinated with a short description. If I use batch change with Filename I get DSCN0277_12617208544_o, which looks bad. What I want is more like "DSCN0277 Green Frog", for example. Is there a way to use the DSCN0277 part as a variable in Text, such as: "variable Green Frog" to change the Title in bach change?

No. It's just not that flexible. It is in possible in Aperture - pay more get more options.

  • IPhoto Batch Change window is not coming up when selected.

I have been using iPhoto for a couple of years now, and I would consider myself to be an intermediate user of the application. I mention this so that everyone knows that I am not crazy, and simply not doing something wrong. I am trying to perform a batch change of a few images, and when I click on batch change the window with the options will not come up. I made sure I had the latest patches, etc.. I am running the latest OS version, and I am at a loss here. I have tried doing a batch change on a single image, and multiple. I have tried images that I have done batch changes on in the past just to make sure it was not the new image files that were the issue. Nothing works. Please advise...

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Log into another account on your Mac and see it you can get it to come up there. Post back with the results. Have you repaired disk permissions lately?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Iphoto batch change, hang up.

I tried to do a "batch change" and iphoto has hung up. Just like a microsoft computer would...
I can not: log out of iphoto, log out of the computer or turn it off.
Any ideas on how to log out or restart iphoto?
    Thanks!

  • IPhoto batch change is choosing date modified rather than date created

    Hello all,
I have a large number of MOV files which I have imported into iPhoto. I want to batch change them all, renaming them to the footage date and time.
iPhoto has chosen the date last modified rather than date created to rename them to. When in Finder and open Inspector, it does have the correct date created.
I can adjust date and time and tick the box to modify the original file for each one but given the quantity I have to do, I would rather the batch change pick up on the date creted.
Any ideas on how I can get iPhoto to do this correctly?
I have spent some time searching online and haven't had any luck so far.
I am using iPhoto 11 v.9.4.3 if it makes a difference.
    Thanks all
    Andrew

iPhoto can only change the date on image files which have EXIF fields.  Movie files don't have EXIF fields so you'll need to do the job outside of iPhoto with an application that can change the file created date like  A Better Finder Attributes 5: Mac OS X Batch Date Changer for EXIF Photos, Files and Folders
    or
File Date Changer: Change file creation and modification dates and times for Mac OS X files

  • IPhoto Batch Change = Can't See Photos

    Hello,
Can someone please tell me what I can do to save my photos from being lost? This is what happened:
I was trying to back my photos up and needed to change the names of a bunch because they had duplicate names, therefore I used these instructions to simply change the names of all my photos - http://macs.about.com/od/tipstricks/qt/iphotobatchedit.htm
After I did this, all my photos won't show up. I can see their outline and that they're still there, but no actual pictures/videos. I tried restarting my computer hoping that would take care of it, but no.
Please tell me that I have not just lost 6 years of photos.
    Thanks in advance!

Then I can just wipe it again before shipping it to its new owner.

  • Can I batch change titles within iPhoto while keeping the original IMG_(4digit) filename/title as PART of the new title?

Using iPhoto '09/8.1.2 on a MacBookPro, with 40,000+ photo library, having the (apparently common) problem of CD burn errors (with Toast and with Disk Utility) when 2 photos end up having the same underlying filename assigned by the camera.  To try to avoid this, I want to retitle pictures within iPhoto so I can utilize the "use title as filename" option when exporting (because I guess I can't burn CDs from WITHIN iPhoto because of this problem, right?).  I was hoping to create new titles that were a combination of the existing 4 digit filename assigned by the camera, combined with new descriptive text (either date, or event title would be fine), and hoping to save time by using Batch Change (which I've never tried - just seen it mentioned here in perusing discussions).  I've also seen reference to "Automator" (which may be over my head), but again not sure if that can be used within iPhoto to combine existing/new title text.  (Also, I saw mention of a script written by Toad at Toad Hall site, but the link to it was bad - may be over my head, also: never tried a "script" before...)  Thanks in advance!

No.  Coming out of iPhoto you're limitied to the Title, real file name, Album name or (in the Export window) Text  with or without sequential number.
However, if you export out with the orignal file name to a folder you can use a file renaming app to add whatever common text to the beginning of the file name so you would get XXXX XXX-IMG 1234.jpg.  Some renamers can remove the IMG bore adding the text at the beginning.
The app that I use and like best is Name Mangler.  Very powerfull.

  • How to undo a batch change of all titles in iPhoto

I accidentally secected all of my photos thinking I was in an album and batch changed all 30,000 photos titles to the same tilte. I had to forse quit due to the unstopable spinning ball. I'm about to cry but hope someone can help me... Mr. Old Toad????  Where are you???  I saw an old post from 2008 but I have iPhotop 11, version 9.2.3 and I'm on OS 10.7.4    So maybe things have changed???
I have a time machine back up from a month or so ago and also a second computer that was last updated about that time and synced with my MacBook Pro (which is where the problem exists)  I have during that time started using photo stream so I could find all the pictures I've resently taken there.
So maybe the library6.iPhoto option works????  How is that done again?

Try typeing Command+Z to undo.  It might work if you haven't done anything since making that global change.
Otherwise, use the same Batch Change and use Title to File Name.  That will get you back to the original file name in the title field that was there after importing.

  • IPhoto Batch Date/Time change Suggestion

I recently traveled overseas with my family to a time zone that was +4:30 from my current location. During our trip I took 800+ photographs from my digital camera, 60+ from my iPhone and lots of video from my camcorder. It didn't occur to me until I got back home that not only did I not set the digital and camcorder to the local time where I was vacationing but also my digital camera had somehow been set 2-days back but with the correct home time. So it was actually 2days 4hours and 30minutes behind the time that it should have been. My iPhone photographs were fine because I set it to the local time as soon as I landed there.
Once I synced my camera & phone photographs I realized my problem as my entire vacation was in a jumbled mess. So then I went through the photographs and split the digital camera and iPhone photographs into 2 albums which was not too hard. Thereafter, I went through the digital camera photographs and adjusted the date/time stamp. Some of them I could do in batches, which is not very easy as you need to look at the current date/time stamp, then select the photographs you want to change and then do the math before making the change. The most of it I had to do individually to make sure they wouldn't get jumbled with the iPhone photographs I had taken. So to say the least, to adjust 800+ photographs took a long time and a lot of effort.
My suggestion is a simple batch change like what is available already, but with the option to advance or regress the date/time stamp letting the system use the current date/time stamp.

That command is the adjust time/date command - not the batch change command
Adjust T/D takes a group of selected photos and applies a constant delta to them thereby correcting for camera setting errors or time zone issues
Also note that this is a user to user support forum not a path to Apple - it is a great plce for questions about how iPhoto works - it is an extremely poor place to make requests for changes since there is no one here who can do that.

  • Batch Change "Date Modified" to match Exif Data After iPhoto Export

Among several other posts about similar situations, I have found none that directly and simply resolve this issue.
My wife imported a bunch of photos into iPhoto directly, but I wanted them in a folder on the hard drive.
I pulled them out of iPhoto into a folder, then deleted the ones in iPhoto so that I could sort them and reimport.
I then realized that the photos all now showed the date they were imported into iPhoto as their created/modified dates, which makes it impossible to easily sort them by the date of the pictures.
I checked the Exif data, and it has preserved the correct creation date event though checking "info" on the pictures shows create date the same as modified the same as iPhoto import.
Is there an easy way to batch change an entire folder of pictures to change the Created/Modified dates to match the Created date from the Exif data?
The only other similar posts had answers that reccomend a piece of software that does not seem to actually do this, and one that suggests some sort of confusing script that I don't really understand.
Please help - I have a bunch of family photos that I really need to fix.

shootShifter helps to redate and rename complete folders of images based on the EXIF data or Finder dates.
    So it will do batches.
I also believe that exporting the Original (File -> Export: Kind Original) will make all of this unnecessary.
I don't like having them only in iPhoto so I organize the originals into folders by choronological event then import them so I have copies outside the iPhoto library to put elsewhere.
You understand that you're using twice the disk space there, right? And that it's quite unnecessary. All iPhoto does is to put them in folders too. Have you looked inside the iPhoto Library ever?
Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed. Your photos are in the Masters folder.
Standard warning: Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things,, deleting them or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos.

  • Date Batch Change iPhoto 09

I have recently installed iPhoto 09 and I am having trouble when I try to change the dates on photos that I have scanned. Since updating to 09 it doesn't matter what date I enter under "Batch Change" the photos fail to update. Titles can be changed and comments can be attached via "Batch Change" but I can't change the date.
From the information window for each photo the date is always shown as "27/06/-1987" . I can change the date via the information window on a photo by photo basis but this is very time consuming.
    I would appreciate any suggestions.
    Regards
    Gary Lowen

I have a related issue, but not exactly the same. I have a bunch of photos that were in iPhoto 08 and now are in iPhoto 09. I think they have had a rough digital life, going back as far as 2003 and being exported and imported so much they don't know who they are...or should I say, when they are. The dates are all wrong with the exception that I think the correct date is somehow buried in a piece of metadata that I can't seem to access.
In iPhoto 09 there is the "Extended Photo Info" window and under the first heading, Image, there is +Original Date+ and +Digitized Date+. These are both definitely wrong and are 1/1/2002..or other dates in 2002 that seem to be sequential but are definitely not related to when they were shot, imported or anything. Under the next heading in this window, File, there is Modified (date) and Imported (date). The Imported date is correct for when these were imported to iPhoto (08), but the Modified date is the Holy Grail that I want: it is the actual date the photo was imported from the camera to the computer (a PC!), which isn't the capture date, but at least has some semblance to when the photo was taken.
So here is the issue: iPhoto doesn't seem to do anything useful with this Modified date, and I can't find that piece of data anywhere. Finder's "Modified" date (from Get Info) for these photos doesn't match iPhoto's "Modified" date...instead it's the same as Finder's "Created" date...which matches iPhoto's Imported date. I am not seeing this Holy Grail date in the eXiF information, or anywhere else, such as using an app like File Buddy.
What I want to do is be able to batch process all these photos so that their +Original Date+ (which I'm assuming is what iPhoto sorts by) is given the value of this Holy Grail Modified date. There are hundreds....no probably thousands of these photos, so no I'm not going to manually enter them with +Adjust Date and Time...+ At the very least, where is this mysterious date stored if I can't find it in Finder, an eXiF data view, or any other advanced file info viewer? Is it buried in the iPhoto library?
Sorry I know this is complicated, especially with all the names of dates, but please help!!!

  • Batch changing iPhoto photo dates.

I've imported several thousand scanned photos into iPhoto 7.1.3, and changed the dates to the dates they was taken either by modifying the information window, or by using batch date change. My intention was to modify the original files so that exported photos would retain the change. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of not setting the "Modify original files" option in my batch changes. Is there a way to use Apple Script or some other method to do modify these files automatically?

Select the photos you want to change the originals for and go to the Photos menu ==> adjust time and date and add 1 second to them selecting the modify original file option

  • Batch change of keywords in iPhoto

In iTunes, I have learned that you can "batch-change" some data by typing Apple+I to a number of (in this case) songs. Is there a way to do this in iPhoto? I tried Apple+I but it didn't work. For example, if I want to go through my album and select each sunset photo, and then at the end of the selection, add the comment "sunset" to each in a batch click.

Check out the Batch Change command in the Photos menu. You can select photos and change their title, date, or comments. If you like keyboard strokes then type Shift Command B.
If you want to keyword a group of photos (with a sunset keyword), first add sunset as a keyword in iPhoto's Preferences. Open the keyword pane (little key icon in the lower left corner) select the photos you want, and drag from any of the selected thumbnails to the word sunset in the keyword pane. The word will be applied to all selected photos at once.
    Regards.

  • Batch change of times in iPhoto 6 ?

Is there an easy way to adjust the time of a batch of photos (say, all photos +2 hours). I had taken photos in another time zone but forgot to change the camera's time.
I could not do this batch change in iPhoto 5, so I was hoping for it in iPhoto 6... is it there?
    PowerBook G4 15", 1.67GHz (machine model: PowerBook5,6)   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I agree. Camera with the wrong time is such a common mistake that a built-in batch adjustment will be a boost in iPhoto's usability. Doing export, adjust, reimport is a solution, but not very user friendly.
User who tries to combine photos of the same event from several cameras from their friends would find rightaway that most people don't set their clock correctly, or some clocks may drift a few minutes enough to screw up the sequence of a slideshow.
The current iPhoto batch time change is quite useless. Is Apple taking notes?

  • Is there a way to do batch changes in Photos (like we could in iPhoto)?

I made heavy use of the Batch change command in iPhoto.
Now that I'm in Photos, how can I get the same results?
Specifically the Batch change of title....

To batch change the titles of selected photos to the same title you could try a simple Apple Script and run it with Automator.
Create an Automator action, that prompts you for the new title and executes an Apple Script to change the titles to the name you entered:
I put a copy of the finished workflow into my Dropbox, if you want to try it:  https://www.dropbox.com/sh/r6kf61oiktntt3q/AADJtXaEuB38OZY0H0PWEIPfa?dl=0
    The Apple Script:
    on run {input, parameters}
-- batch chnage the title to the input
      tell application "Photos"
      activate
      set imageSel to (get selection)
      if imageSel is {} then
      error "Please select some images."
      else
      repeat with im in imageSel
      tell im
      set the name to input
      end tell
      end repeat
      end if
      end tell
      return input
    end run
    Launch Automator,
    create a new service,
drag a "Ask for Text" action into the workflow.
drag a "Run Apple Script" action into the workflow.
Copy and paste the text above into the "Run Apple Script" action to replace the default text in the action.
Save this workflow with a suitable name.  It will be installed in the services.
Now quit Photos, if it is running and launch Photos again and select a few test images.
Open the "Photos" Menu > Services".
The service should be shown in the menu - I saved  my version as "BatchChangeTitles".
Select the service to let it run.
You will be prompted to enter a new title for the selected photos.
When you click the selected photos again, the titles should change.

  • Iphoto 09 - Batch change changes ALL Pictures ?

I tried to use Batch change and only selected some pictures but saw that the batch changed information in ALL the photos in my iPhoto not just the selected ones!
I wanted to change only some pictures.
    Anyone one seen this?
    thanks

There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
    1. Permissions in the Library: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
    2. Minor Database corruption: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
    3. A Damaged Photo: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). (On iPhoto 11 this option is under the File -> Reveal in Finder.) Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
    4. A corrupted iPhoto Cache: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/Library/ Caches...
    5. A corrupted preference file: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    If none of these help:
    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?
