IPhoto begins at startup

When I boot my Mac IPhoto boots, as well. Can anyone tell me how to stop this? Thank you!

Some possibilities:
Right click on the iPhoto icon in the Dock. Is Open at Log In Selected?
Check your System Preferences -> Accounts -> Log In Items
Is there a camera or anything that your Mac might think is a camera (flash drive, USB Hard Disk formatted to a FAT format, phone) attached to your Mac. If so, disconnect it. If you don't want to disconnect it, set iPhoto to "Do Nothing" when a camera is attached. You do this in the iPhoto Preferences.

  • How do I stop iphoto opening at startup?

    It is not listed as a startup item;
it is not listed in image capture as a startup item
I have checked all possible files and folders in User>Library and in System> Library but can find no item that would cause it to startup at restart.
I have read all the earlier posts going back to 2006 but nothing suggested seems to apply in my case.
Also, I notice that Image Capture does not have a Preferences setting in the drop down menu, as mentioned in much earlier posts.
    Any suggestions?

I disconnected the USB external drive but that did not make any difference.
Since iPhoto shows a connected device EasyShare Ai when it opens, I suspected that this was due to the Kodak printer, USB connected, which might cause iPhoto to open automatically.
Sure enough, when I disconnect the printer, iPhoto does not open at login.
Now, I have to find where in the printer preferences I can disable that particular action.

  • IPhoto launching at startup, iSight no longer works, 10.4.8 to blame?

My built-in iSight (first 17" intel iMac) is "in use by another application" when I attempt to use it from iMovie, iChat, or Photo Booth. When I tried disconnecting everything and rebooting, I discovered that iPhoto is launching at startup.
The only thing I can think of that has changed recently is a system update about a week ago, including 10.4.8 and whatever apps were updated.
iPhoto is not set to launch in either the StartupItems folder or my user's login items. It also does not show as checked when I ctrl-click on it in the dock.
So far I've tried resetting the PRAM and installing MacOSXUpd10.4.8Intel.dmg to no avail. I see a reference to a "Combo Update" in another unrelated thread (network problems). Does anyone recommend this? Or am I just hosed until 10.5 comes out.

Problem solved. It was a digital camera driver which is no longer compatible since the new update.
03: Check your system console and see if you have any malloc errors. Are you using anything you had to install drivers for? You get the starfish for being considerate enough to reply. I hope you get it worked out.

  • Beginning of startup chime is cut off

I just purchased an Intel iMac 20" and when I press the power button, the very beginning of the startup chime is cut off.
I haven't installed Boot Camp or any firmware updates yet - this is a virgin computer.
    Any ideas?

Oddly enough, it was when I installed that firmware update that the chime went away. Funny how something that we all took for grantedd becomes a thread when it goes away. LOL

  • IPhoto message at startup

I imported a lot of photos from my external hard drive to iPhoto. Now every time I startup iPhoto I get a message "iPhoto has detected a photo that has not been imported yet," or something like that. I tell it no, I don't want it imported and it comes back with "iPhoto has put this photo in a recovery directory (again a paraphrase)."
Can some one help me get it to stop trying to import? And how to delete anything that has been stored in a directory somewhere?
    Help is much appreciated.

Quit iPhoto and right click (control click) on the iPhoto library (by default in the pictures folder) - find the folder names import (or importing) and drag it to the desktop - launch iPhoto and everything will be ok
    1 - Quit iPhoto and
2 - right click (control click) on the iPhoto library (by default in the pictures folder) - in the finder look in the source pane on the left for the pictures folder and open it and then right click on the iPhoto library and show package contents
3 - find the folder names import (or importing) and drag it to the desktop - this is a folder in the iPhoto library - do not move or change anything else in the iPhoto library
4 - launch iPhoto and everything will be ok

  • IPhoto 11 - Slow Startup

iPhoto 11 takes about 1-2 minutes to startup, every time.
Once started it works well, but 1-2 minutes to start is very annoying.
I've tried to repair disk permission, but nothing changed.
    I'm using a MacBook Pro 6,2 with i7, 8gb ram and 7200 rpm disk.
Any tips? Or should I just wait for an update? I've been waiting for a long time now.

I am highly thankful to you DrJones for your solution. I was having the same problem with iPhoto as well as Aperture and I was very much worried about this thinking that it's some hardware fault. Thanks for your help. I have even formatted my laptop because of this. I wish I could have read this before formatting. Anyways for all those who have a Bootcamp partition and running OS X 10.6.6, please make sure that you have avoided your Bootcamp partition being indexed by spotlight at startup.
    Cheers

  • Why is iPhoto reporting my startup disk  is full when it clearly is not?

I recently had a system crash and used Time Machine for a backup. All is going well...except iPhoto does not recognize my iphoto library - well each event has a greyed out box with dasjed lines under it. I followed the advice on one forum, copied the "Masters" folder after applying "Open Package Contents" to the library. iPhot started to import these files but stopped...giving me an error message that my stratup disk was almost full. As it happens I have a 500GB hard drive with 140GB remaining...so it can't be "almost full".
When I connect my iPhone to my computer I receive the same message..."startup disk is almost full"
Is there some way of uninstalling iphot and starting again?? Something is "corrupt" in denmark....to quote the bard
I am running 10.7.3 on a 2.2 GHZ Intel COre I7 macbook pro, 8 GB ram - and have been running along without any problems whatsoever with iPhot or any othe rproblems
    cheers
    john

well i solved the problem by deleting my old iphoto library (having extracted the conten tform it), restarting iPhoto, creating a new Library when it prompet me to, then importing the above files. No warning messages about insufficient disk space.

    Back to the damaged Library.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • IPhoto launches on startup

Ever since I've started using my iPhone, iPhoto always launces when I start my Mac. This happens whether or not the phone is connected. Any thoughts?
I recall in OS9 there was a startup items folder. Does that exist anymore. Don't see anything similar in system preferences.

  • IPhoto on Mac startup?!

I'm sure this one's easy..... why does iPhoto take it upon itself to launch when I start the computer and log in to Leopard? I checked the startup items folder and iPhoto isn't in there? It's not a huge problem I suppose, but startup takes that much longer.... plus when I open Final Cut, instead I get the iPhoto screen that was delayed while Leopard finished loading..... and this of course delays Final Cut while iPhoto is loading..... the list continues. Any ideas?

Right click on the iPhoto icon in the Dock. Is Open at Log In Selected?

  • IPhoto unsolicited/unwelcome startup

Not certain if this is Snow Leopard issue, but iPhoto 9 mysteriously opens several times an hour. It is not part of the startup items setting. Cannot locate any other OS or program option that would cause this action. This began with no known system or program modifications. There are no known keyboard commands or scripts running that open iPhoto. This opens from any running app, e.g. Safari, iTunes, Entourage. Any suggestions on how to run down the cause....and a fix? Comments welcomed. .....Hal

Hal, I have no idea what’s causing iPhoto’s behavior on your computer — I haven’t even tried running iPhoto yet on mine — so I’ll just fling some semi-random thoughts out to see if anything sticks.
First, I’ll presume that by “iPhoto 9” you meant iPhoto ’09, which is version 8. Are you running the latest version of iPhoto (version 8.1.2)?
Second, is there any third-party software that is installed on your computer which might have any relation to iPhoto? For example, do you have third-party software installed to support a particular digital camera or scanner?
Third, is iPhoto the only program on your computer that behaves in this fashion? Does it try to open any particular image file when it activates?
Fourth, you had mentioned that it opens from running apps such as Safari and iTunes. Do you have the most recent versions of these apps (4.0.5 and 9.1 respectively) installed? In Safari’s General preferences, do you have the “Open "safe" files after downloading” checkbox selected? If so, try deselecting it, and see if iPhoto’s behavior continues from within Safari.
Fifth, have you considered trying to uninstall and reïnstall iPhoto? It could be enlightening to know if, between iPhoto’s uninstallation and its reïnstallation, any running app complained about iPhoto being unavailable for activation.

  • Iphoto quits at startup.

I synced my iphone to my Mac. Running low on space and iPhoto quit. I have the latest OS (not Mavericks) and the latest iPhoto.
Now I rebooted twice and iPhoto still terminates at startup.

OS X needs about 10 gigs of hard drive space for normal OS operations - things like virtual memory, temporary files and so on.
Without this space your Mac will slow down as the OS hunts for space on the disk, files will be fragmented, also slowing things down, apps will crash and the risk of data corruption - that is damage to your files, photos, music - increases exponentially.
Your first priority is to make more space on that HD. Nothing else can be done until you do. You do still do not have enough free sapce on that disk.
It's likely that your Library was damaged from trying to run it on an overcrowded disk.
Do you have  a back up?

  • IPhoto launches on startup after upgrade to Snow Leopard

I am using an Intel Mini and upgraded to Snow Leopard. Now, on startup Iphoto launches and is apparently seeing my Kodak ESP 5 printer as a camera. If I turn off the printer before starting the Mac, iPhoto does not auto-launch. There are no SD Ram cards in the printer that would be confused for a camera connected by USB. Is there any way to fix this?

Stil_III, this is the reponse I reached from Kodak
Andrew Healey (13:22:24): I have a 5300 Kodak all in one printer. I have a Mac. I have just installed Mac OS 10.6 and everytime I strat up my machine iPhoto opens and thinks the Kodak printer is a camera and sets it up as a "EasyShare Ai" device. I have checked the Apple support site and a number of other Mac users are experiencing the same issue. I updated the Easy Share software and firmware.
(13:22:24)[An agent will be with you shortly.]
    (13:22:41 PM)[You are now chatting with Vishal J .]
Vishal J (13:22:47 PM): Welcome to Kodak, my name is Vishal. Please wait while I review your question.
Vishal J (13:24:30 PM): As I understand, whenever you turn on your printer, you get popup of camera detected?
Andrew Healey (13:25:55 PM): No everytime start up my computer iPhoto launches as it thinks I have a camera called EasyShare Ai attached
Vishal J (13:29:37 PM): I will take care of the issue.
Vishal J (13:29:57 PM): May I have the Kodak Service Number of the printer? It is located under the Access panel towards the left side on a white bar-coded sticker on the printer.
Andrew Healey (13:30:41 PM): Sorry but I am at work and do not have access to the printer
    Vishal J (13:30:54 PM): Not a problem.
Vishal J (13:32:16 PM): Andrew, I would like to inform you that as your Kodak printer has scanner in it. Scanner use the same drivers as the camera. Therefore whenever you turn on the printer, it detects the camera. I would like to inform you that it is normal.
Andrew Healey (13:33:04 PM): Vishal J but this did not happen with Mac OS 10.5. Is it a new issue?
Vishal J (13:34:56 PM): Andrew, probably in your Mac OS 10.5 autoplay options would be disabled, as in normal scenarios, autoplay options are enabled so that it can automatically detect the other devices, like your printer, cameras, CD etc.
Andrew Healey (13:35:46 PM): OK thanks I will check my setiings tonight. Vishal thanks for your help. Andrew
Vishal J (13:36:02 PM): You are welcome.

  • IPhoto freezes on startup and unable to use dialogue box.

    Hi,
I just upgraded my Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion.  I also updated my iphoto to the latest version (not sure how to check the current version but its the latest one as per app store today).
Now when I load my iphoto I get the spinning icon in the middle as well as the Dialogue box asking me if I want to update the Library, however the options are frozen and nothing happens when I click on the buttons.  I've left this for a few hours with no result.
I've tried holding down the option button on startup but the dialogue box with the new options are frozen.
    Any ideas?
    Cheers,

Back up your iPhoto library, Depress the option and command keys, launch iPhoto and rebuild the library

  • IPhoto crashes upon Startup

    Hello all
Upgraded to recent version of iLife lately - while I was still running Leopard (2 weeks ago) - gave me the normal prompt to 'upgrade' my library when I started, not a problem - ran through fine. However, now whenever I startup, iPhoto sits there for about 5 minutes, frozen, until it lets me use it. It loads whatever picture is in the chosen view - than just sits there.
Very frustrating! I've upgraded to Leopard and the problem persists.
    Help?
    Thanks,
    Daniel.

    Daniel:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You may have a damaged database file in the library or a damaged preference file or erroneous access privileges to one or more files. The first thing to try is delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder and launch iPhoto to see if it will open OK.
If not the download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, putting your administrator login name, long or short, in the owner and group sections. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field.
Lastly, if needed, rebuild the library as follows: launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the first three options.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
