IPhoto Book - extra large size choice

I have about 325 photos selected for an iPhoto book for my husbands birthday gift. I wish to order the extra large size but it does not show up as one of the choices. All choices indicate 8 1/2 x 11". Can you assist? thank you.

What version of iPhoto are you using?  With iPhoto 9 it's in the Change Themes window:

  • Everything is opening in extra large size so I can't see entire page

My icons are appearing in extra large sizes and when I click on one, such as Firefox to get my email or retrieve a bookmarked item, that also shows up in extra large size so that I can't read or write without constantly arrowing up or down. I've tried shutting down the computer, but it did not return to normal size. I really need help. Many thanks.

Use the F11 key or move the mouse pointer to the top of the screen.
I am using Ubuntu 12.0.4 with various versions of Firefox installed, I think that works with them all.

  • Why Camera Raw Needs Larger Size Choices

The upsampling provided in Camera Raw as part of the conversion process is excellent.  I know of no better way to extract the maximum possible detail from a raw image than to convert to an upsampled resolution.
Trouble is, the biggest value one can select from the list is 6144 x 4096 pixels.
Some cameras, e.g., the Nikon D800, already deliver images with more pixels that this, so there are no upsampled resolutions to choose from in the Workflow Options dialog.  There need to be!
There is a way to "trick" Camera Raw into providing a larger image - one can set a custom crop, then drag the crop tool around the entire image, then finish the conversion.
Just to illustrate the utility in doing this, I used the "trick" to get a 9000 x 6000 pixel conversion from a Nikon D800 image, which can be found here:
    http://movies.dpreview.com.s3.amazonaws.com/nikon_d800/DSC_0241.NEF.zip
Once I opened this image at 54 megapixels (up from the camera's native 36.2 MP) I sharpened it.  You can see how well that came out here (11 megabyte JPEG file):
    http://Noel.ProDigitalSoftware.com/ForumPosts/DSC_0241_Upsampled_and_Sharpened.jpg
I've made this request before, and it was ignored.  Here's hoping the Camera Raw team will reconsider offering some upsampled sizes based on the native size (e.g., 125%, 150%, etc.).  No matter how many megapixels you've got, more is better.

You're advocating design by public popularity contest over technical leadership?  Really?  LOL, I mean no disrespect but that sounds like something out of Dilbert's world.
Someone on the Camera Raw design staff has ALREADY made the case for providing both up- and down-sampling options for all the cameras available at the time, or those options would not have been implemented in the first place!  That they were implemented as fixed values rather than a formula based on the native resolution may have been because of constraints that are no longer there now (based on our current ability to arbitrarily choose sizes via the Crop trick).

Ah, so now it becomes clear we're discussing something that goes against long-standing beliefs you have been running on.
    1.  No one is trying to force you to abandon anything you like to do and which nets you good results already.
    2.  No one is proposing anything radical here, but do always try to keep an open mind, because there might still be people in the world who are just as smart as those who have sold you books in the past.

  • IPhoto Book Hardcover Size (Large)?

What size is the cover of a large hardcover iPhoto book? I know the pages are 11" x 8.5", but I assume the cover is slightly larger. I'm interested because I'm creating a custom cover in Photoshop and I'd like to get the exact measurements so that my image can fit perfectly. Any help would be very much appriciated.
    Thanks!

    Greetings,
I would like to use a special font in my iPhoto book (hardcover large size). When I Preview the book, the font shows up as it should, but I'm not sure if it gets embedded in the document sent to Apple when you go "Buy Book" or not.
Preview your book before you place your order. In general, what you see is what you get: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040
Also, books are generally printed only in sets of 4 pages (4 sides). Mine comes to a number that is a multiple of 4, but the dustcover and outside cover are included in that number. Will Apple automatically insert white pages to make up the difference? or should I add 2 more pages?
As long as your book is within the Min/Max number of pages listed here, http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3412, whatever you see in iPhoto is what you will get in the printed version of the book (as far as number of pages goes)
    Hope that helps.

  • Is it possible to order extra large and large copies of an iPhoto album from the same book?, Is it possible to order extra large and large copies of an iPhoto album from the same book?

        Hi
Does anyone know if it is possible to order an iPhoto book in different sizes? We have just created an iPhoto book and we would like to order it in large and extra large but when you click Buy Book it loads the original option selected.
I know you could say that should have thought about this beforehand but new to iPhoto itself.....really do not want to have to recreate as extra large as this has taken us some time to sort out already and thought would ask before coming to a conclusion.
Please could you let me know?
    Many thanks
    Kate

Sure - select the book in the source pane on the left and duplicate it (just in case of problems) - depress the command key and type "D" - then go to themes and select the new size, verify that it worked and preview it -
Before ordering your book preview it using this method -http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - and save the resulting PDF for reference - the delivered book will match it.
    then order it

  • Extra-large photo book available for iPhoto 08?

Can anyone tell me if I can create an extra large size photo book with iPhoto '08? I see online that extra-large (Size: 13x10 inches) is available, however in my iPhoto this option is not there (only large Size: 11x8.5 inches). Do I have to upgrade to iPhoto '09 in order to get that?
    Thank you.
    Irina

If I'm understanding this correctly, is there a work around, i.e. perhaps just purchasing the iPhoto upgrade to 09?
The only way to upgrade iPhoto is to purchase the iLife suite. There is no way to purchase an update to iPhoto alone.
It is surely contraindicative to me to not allow iPhoto 08 users to order a book that costs $50 instead of one that costs $30 without first spending $80 to upgrade!
Contraindicitative or not, adding the feature of the extra-large book means extra coding of the app, extra product testing and all the hoohaa that goes with releasing an update, and all of these are a cost. Extra features are an incentive to upgrade. Adding them to legancy versions lessens that incentive. I know of no software developer that adds features to an app after a newer version has come out.
it does not make economic sense for me to spent $80 just to be able to purchase something larger in size.
A calculation only you can make for yourself.

  • HT201504 How do I change from extra large to large after completion.

I did an I photo book extra large, the full page photos were blurred I  have made some corrections and now wish to repurchase as large but I can't change the order from the original extra large?  How do I order this book under large.  The problem is you determine size before making the book?

Select the book in the side window of iPhoto and type Command + D to duplicate the book.  Select the duplicate version, go to the View All Pages window and click on the Change theme button.  In the next window you can change the size of the book you want.
After doing so be sure to carefully check each page to make sure all photos are present and there are no text overruns causing a warning icon to appear in the text box.
Before ordering the book follow the directions in iPhoto, Aperture: Previewing an order in iPhoto or Aperture - Apple Support to create a preview PDF file of the book.  Check the PDF file carefully for any errors.  If all is good order the book.  Save the pdf file to compare with the printed copy when it arrives.

  • IPhoto Book Page Resolution?

When making 13 x 10 photo book in iPhoto, what does the page size equate to in resolution?  In other words, if I wanted to add a photo I created in Photoshop to my iPhoto book, how large should I make it?

If the photos is less than 180 DPI you will get a warning message - you can choose to continue or abort and use a different photo or place in a smaller frame
    Since 13 * 180 = 2340 and 10 * 180 = 1800 your image must be a minimum of 1800 x 2340 pixels to avoid a warning message (and for good quality printing)
However why not use the full resolution that you have - reducing it guys you nothing and may reduce final quality

my 5s screen is stuck on extra large size, making it hard to login and impossible to reach the bottom of the main screen for phone or Internet.

Try pressing the Apple button, below the screen, 3 times in succession to toggle the screen back to normal size.

  • Can I change an Extra Large photo book to a smaller size once done?

Can I change an Extra Large photo book to a smaller size once done?

Sure - butyour text boxes may need work since being a different size may affect the view - to change duplicate the book just in case (select it and press command - D) and then go to themes and select the same theme in teh new size - closly verify the modified book and preview it -
Before ordering your book preview it using this method - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - and save the resulting PDF for reference - the delivered book will match it.

  • Extra Large iphoto book on iPad air?

Why can I not see an option for an extra large photo book (11x13)? I see online that these are available yet my brand new ipad air does not have this option. Anybody know what the problem is?

  • I have created a book  in Photo Essay that is extra large (10 by 13") and I just realized that I want a 8 1/2"by 11" book.  Can I transfer all the pages to the smaller sized book.  If so, how?  Thanks so much for your help.

I have created an extra large (10"-13") Photo Essay style iBook in Aperture and just realized that all my other iBooks are 8.5"-11".  How can I transfer all the formatted pages to the smaller book size without having to start over?  Thanks so much for your help.
    Apple Phan

    Apple Phan,
that will require some extra work. If you change the book size, some of your edits will probably be lost, because texts and photos that will not fit the smaller layout will be removed. The best you can do will be to save your current book, so you can compare. Try the following:
Create a PDF preview of  the current version of the book and save the PDF, see:  iPhoto, Aperture: Previewing an order in iPhoto or Aperture
Duplicate the book: File > Duplicate
Then change the Book Sizeof the copy  (from the Theme Button) and compare, what is missing, hopefully not to much.

  • Is it possible to change iPhoto book size after book is made?

I made a book project in iPhoto.  After I was finished I decided I want to go from the extra-large book that I selected when I first started to a large book.  Is it possible to change the book size before ordering the book?

Yes.  Command (right) - click on the book in the left hand pane and select Duplicate.
Open the duplicate copy and  go the Change Themes button and click on it.  In the next window you can change size within the same theme.
The reason for the backup is in case the text might be lost or garbled up due to size changes in the text boxes. You can copy what is in the original library and paste it into the different sized library after adjusting text size if necessary.

  • When I download pictures from my camera, they turn out a nice big size in iPhoto; other pictures that have been e-mailed to me or imported from older libraries/other computers show up small.  Why is this, and how can I make them all the larger size?

When I download pictures from my digital camera into iPhoto, they turn out a nice large size (usually almost the full screen), but when somebody e-mails me pictures and I import them into iPhoto, or when I transfer old photos from an old library into my new iPhoto library, they turn out very small--not exactly thumbnail-size, but too small to use for calendars or photo books.  I don't know much about computers, so I don't know how this happened.  Also, I can't find any discernible pattern to why this happens with some pictures and not others--ie: what I described above is usually true, but I have had e-mailed photos or old photos turn out the way I want them, which is in the larger size in iPhoto.  Why is this happening, and how can I make all the pictures the larger size?

Some mail programs, including Apple Mail, can reduce the size of images that are attached to a message. It's happening at the sender's end, and all you can do is ask the sender for a larger image.
