IPhoto book... First time!

I have created a book from photos and some I have added text in a new font..
When I go to buy, it says
Your book appears to have default text that has not yet been edited. Printed books will not include this text. Do you want to continue with your order?
What does this mean?
I have looked at similar posts and it says to create a PDF - where is this menu in iPhoto to create a PDF?
Also If I stop on a certain page will the book be created with just these pages and not a standard set of blank ones that I haven't filled?!?
ie: I have created 19 pages (sheets either side) is this enough or too much? - before I go ahead and buy it?
Thanks for your help as this is my first time, and want to make sure its correct before pressing BUY!

Your book appears to have default text that has not yet been edited. Printed books will not include this text. Do you want to continue with your order?
What does this mean?
It means that somewhere in your book you have a text block with the default text still in it (you have not edited that text block) and that default text will not be printed - I prefer to edit all the test and if I do not want text in a text block put one space in it
I have looked at similar posts and it says to create a PDF - where is this menu in iPhoto to create a PDF?
directions for previewing your order are here - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040

No - if you want blank pages you must replace the page with a blank page
ie: I have created 19 pages (sheets either side) is this enough or too much? - before I go ahead and buy it?
The minimum book is 20 pages - 10 sheets of paper

  • HT204655 How can I access a iPhoto book from time machine without it being modified by Photos?

When I updated to Yosemite I didn't realize the ramifications for iPhoto (silly me). When I migrated my iPhoto library to Photos I have somehow lost a couple of iBooks I had created. I have a number of older iPhoto books under projects, just not the most recent ones. I have checked my other libraries and they are not there. I realized that Apple might have the book in their system from the print order I made a few weeks ago, which they did. And I was able to reorder the book from my invoice for the last order and with help from some very nice Apple support people. However they cannot migrate the book back to me. So now I need to try and find it so I don't have to recreate it. I think it must be in Time Machine somewhere but I am afraid if I find it and try to reinstall it, Yosemite will do something with it. I have noticed when I opened another book that Yosemite said the format was no longer available and reformatted it to another template. Help.

So when I try to uodate iPhoto from my applications folder I am told to uplate IT from the App Store and when I go there I am told the updae is not available in Canada.
You can no longer buy iPhoto from the appStore anywhere, and also not update it from the "Updates" tab of the AppStore. You can reinstall it, if it is showing among your Purchases at the App Store and associated with your AppleID.
Sign into the AppStore look at the Purchases tab.  If you do not see iPhoto there, try to unhide your Purchases as described on this page:   Hide and unhide purchases in the Mac App Store - Apple Support
If iPhoto shows on your Purchases tab, reinstall as described in this User Tip:
Get iPhoto 9.6.1 if you didn't update before OS... | Apple Support Communities
The main idea is to move the iPhoto app to the Trash, so Spotlight does not see it as installed, reload the AppStore, and then to try to download again from the App Store - from your Purchases tab, not from the main page, since you can neither buy iPhoto nor update it, but you can reinstall, if your AppleID is associated with it.
You may need to unhide your Purchases, if you do not see iPhoto on the Purchases page when you sign into the AppStore with your AppleID:

  • UK iPhoto books - in time for Christmas

I ordered 4 iPhoto books on November 28th as Christmas presents for my immediate family. The Apple side assured me that any orders before 5th December would be with me before Christmas.
Is anyone else experiencing this sort of delay? Apple now have 2 days left to fulfill their promise before they ruin my Christmas.
    Chippy

I just received an email after 10 times of trying
"Thank you for contacting Apple Print Product Customer Service.
Our records indicate your iPhoto order shipped on December 6th.
Orders that ship Standard Service are usually delivered three to five business days after shipment. Please note that tracking information is available only for orders placed with Express Delivery.
We're very sorry that your order has not yet arrived. If the carrier was unable to deliver to your address your order may have been returned to our warehouse. We regret that we are unable to reroute photo orders that have been returned to Apple.
We have issued a full refund for your orders. This credit should be sent to your credit card within the next 3-5 business days. Please note that this refund may not immediately show on your financial statement. You may wish to contact your credit card company for more information on when the credit will post to your account.
Please place a new order at your convenience.
Thank you again for your patience."
Order at my convenience???!!?? What in time for XMAS 2007?
    IDIOTS!
What worries me now is that there are books and calendars somewhere in the world with pictures of my young sons - with my address on them. I don't think I need to spell it out but it does make you think!

  • IPhoto Book turnaround time & sharing question

I can't seem to find where it says what the turnaround time is for the iPhoto book. Does anyone know where this information is? Or, can I just order it 2 day delivery & it will be here in 2 days?
Also, we are making one for my mother's 65th bday but I want to show it to my sisters before I order it...they do not live in the same state....does anyone know if it is possible to email it to them?
    Thank you!

http://www.apple.com/support/photoservices/shipping/ - basically 3 to 4 business days production plus shipping of 3 to 14 business days
Or, can I just order it 2 day delivery & it will be here in 2 days?
    no

Not really - they are big files - you probably need to do a print to PDF (or right click (control click) on a grey background area and select preview book from the contextual menu and save the PDF and burn it to a CD and ship it - once you have the PDF you can try e-mails it but it probably will fail on either your end or her's because of the size
And maybe you can downsize the preview since you will not be printing from it.

  • IPhoto Book Delivery Time

Can anyone tell me the average delivery time for an iPhoto book. I'm doing one for a class project that is due in one week. If I submit it now, will I receive it in time? I've never done a book before, so I have no idea.

You may get it on time. It took me about 6 days to receive mine. But Beware!! I proofread mine numerous times and previewed it in PDF format and there were numerous mistakes in the captioning.

  • IPhoto Book Delivery times?

Does anyone know off hand what the average production/delivery time is to receive a book made from iPhoto? To be more specific, if I created one tonight (Mon Feb 9th) would I possibly receive it by Friday or Saturday? Do they have expedited shipping?

    Spez Guy
Welcome to the Apple user to user assistance forums
    see this Page - http://www.apple.com/support/photoservices/shipping_prices/
    and this one - http://www.apple.com/support/photoservices/shipping/
for shipping and production timing information
Yes there is expedited shipping - ordering tonight may make it iffy for receipt by Sat even with expedited shipping - the sooner you order the better the chance
I'm in California and my shipping has been great even using ground - but to guarantee it - not really

  • Unable to order iphoto books :(

    Hi,
I've never had trouble ordering iphoto books before.  In fact, I order one every year on our anniversary.  This year, I have tried to order our iphoto book 5 times and each time it makes it to the uploading page and then freezes.  I have to hardboot my computer in order to exit out of iphoto.  Does anyone know if this is a software glitch or if there is a setting I need to change?  I love ordering iphoto books and feel very discouraged
    Thank you, Jenny

Before ordering your book preview it using this method - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - and save the resulting PDF for reference - the delivered book will match it.
If it is correct boot into safe mode and preview again (note that safe mode disables some fonts) and then order while in safe mode

  • PDF preview of iPhoto book shows image degradation

For years I have made iPhoto books first designing pages with text and color imagery in InDesign, then exporting PDFs of the pages to iPhoto via Automator, and then placing the designed pages into blank pages of the iPhoto book. Prior to printing I preview the book by going to Preview in the print dialog box. The preview images have always been spot on regarding what the image quality of the finished book would be. Now I'm trying to make a large book incorporating both color and black and white images. These are elegant, black and white images that have been lovingly restored in Photoshop and feature full tonal ranges. They are TIFF images. Subsequent to making a small, trial run book, I discovered that if I kept the images as grayscale images, they printed too dark. AS a result of phone conversations with Apple and trying the Adobe discussion site, I found that if I resaved the BW images as RGB, the page PDFs I generated when exporting the pages out of InDesign reproduced the BW images perfectly. Likewise, throughout the process of assembling the new iPhoto book, when I placed the pages, the BW images looked gorgeous. However, just prior to uploading the book, I decided to preview the pages and generated a PDF preview in the print dialog box. Lo and behold, all the images show up noticeably different; the BW images lack good blacks--the dark areas seem distinctly muddy compared to the originals. Does anyone have a clue as to what is happening and how I might regain the original look? Thanks. I'm using iPhoto 11 with Snow Leopard on a new iMac.

I don't think you're doing anything incorrectly. I think that the inside page is automatic in the printing process and is not included in the pdf file that is created. Only the cover and pages 1-20 or whatever are added to the pdf file.

  • IPhoto book upload failed using iPhoto 9.4.3 and Mountain Lion

    Hi
I have tried to upload iPhoto book several times but the upload failed.  I have tried rebooting my iMac in Safe Mode but this results in iPhoto closing when I try to buy my book.  I have uploaded books in the past using Snow Leopard with no issues.

I hope this helps, thank you for taking an interest in this problem.

  • I downloded iphoto 11 9.2 and when opened it for the first time and the program started to update my iPhoto library the file got corrupted. That has happened in the two macs I have (both of them rather new and updated to last Lion version 10.7.2).

I downloaded Iphoto 11 9.2 from the apps store (was on iphoto '09 before version 8.x) and when opened it for the first time it tried to update my photo librery and ended up corupting it to the extreme that I had to get a backup from time capsule and downgrade my iphoto version. I spent yesterday 6 hours at the genius bar in an apple store and they were not able to provide me with any other solution. In the emantime, I have to forget about about photo streaming... Any idea, is this a bug that somebody knows how tp fix?

In fairness, this isn't an issue in iPhoto 11 but one in your Library. Some file or other in there is damaged and that's what causes the crash during the upgrade.
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • First time using multiple users - how do I share addy books, etc?

Hello, We just got the new iMac and for the first time I am setting it up for multiple users. Can anyone guide me to a tutorial or guide on sharing different things between users?
Specifically, I'd like to share iTunes and iPhoto libraries and also Entourage address books with the new users that have been set up. Probably some other stuff to that I'm not thinking of. I browsed around without any luck.
    Many thanks.

    You're welcome!
I've been on these discussion boards with various logins I always seem to forget since the iMac first came out, 8 years or so ago.
LOL Yeah, I have to drop the Welcome... bit. It's bitten me two or three times already since the forums software was changed....
I'd at least like to import my current address book into my wife's address book...
Open your Address Book and choose the Directory, 'All.' Select an entry and then do Command-A so that all of the entries are highlighted. Go to the File menu and choose Export vCard. Export it to your Desktop, and then put it in the Shared folder. Log in to your wife's account, open Address Book, and then from the File menu, choose Import > vCards, point to the vCard in the Shared folder, and you're set....

  • Notes on receiving my first iPhoto book ever

I thought a "results" or review post might be useful to someone out there in the future, especially as Apple says you can order books until the 14th, for Christmas delivery.
Overall--I'm happy. I had already ordered four additional books as gifts, on spec because I started the process too late. I'm confident they will be nice gifts that my family appreciates. I'll order again in the future, but I will pick different photos. Also, I will pay extra for express shipping when doing a test run. That was silly.
I ordered a hardcover book using the Picture Book theme.
Time--ordered one night, shipped two nights later (6pm 12/5)--arrived morning of 12/12, standard shipping.
Packaging--my book arrived in a nice Apple box within the FedEx box, and the packing slip showed my name but not the price. So I would feel comfortable sending a package directly to someone as a gift (assuming the non-hardcovers arrive similarly, and Apple doesn't already have the "send a gift" option).
Quality--The feel is very nice--it looks quite professional. The spine on the dustjacket shows the main title of the book. The foil imprint on the hard cover, showing main title and subtitle on the front, is lovely.
Photos--People said something about photos coming up darker. I would say that the colors are not as vibrant as they look on my screen, not exactly darker but less bright and shiny. Detailed close-ups are mostly fine--outside scenic shots don't really convey that it was a beautiful sunny day.
My main displeasure is with the cover/dustjacket. In iPhoto, it looks like it's going to be white. In reality, it looks like Apple took a bright white sheet and a bright photo and then washed the whole piece of paper with gray. Almost like putting vellum over an invitation, or printing onto vellum or recycled paper. This may be specific to the Picture Book theme. It's not unattractive--it's fine--but it's a place where I definitely didn't get what I expected. On the other hand, I had a photo that was really too dark on the front inside flap, that showed as very dark on my computer--and it looks better than expected. The smaller outdoor shots on the back and rear inside flap are completely acceptable. Doing it again, I would have picked a different photo for the cover, maybe used multiple photos.
The inside page photos are pretty much fine--almost as bright and clear as on my computer. My blue skies are all a bit gray-blue. Skies that were already gray-blue in iPhoto just look grayish. Shots that are a bit shadowed look almost better than I expected--even though they are busy with lots of detail, they look good. Some dark shadowed trees in a background look greener and lighter than on my computer. Close-ups on a colorful mosaic look great. The four-picture page of us in shops, buying things, which I didn't like at all in iPhoto, looks great in the book.
So if I'd had a chance to tweak the other copies, I would used fewer big blue sky shots (I had used a lot, sadly) and risked more interior/shadowed/busy shots. I guess the printing process is optimized for family photos of people rather than scenic picture books, understandably.
I rarely print photos, so I literally did ZERO editing of the photos, because I wasn't sure what to change for best results. Yet, overall, I am pleased. And I was using a point-and-shoot Canon SD 700, I'm not a good photographer, and I don't do a good job capturing skies anyhow. But all my photos were taken on the highest resolution, and I picked the best ones. If I had gotten the book in time, I might have done some research on trying to enhance the blue skies for the later copies. But I probably would have decided I didn't have the time and that it was fine as is, aside from the cover.
Gutter--in the wire-bound book, iPhoto shows you where the wire will cut into a full-bleed picture. It doesn't do as good a job with the hardcover book--definitely more of the picture is lost into the gutter than I expected. This is a minor annoyance in only two spreads, but I'll certainly be careful about this with hardcover books in the future.
Complaints--I'll probably send Apple feedback about iPhoto not being so accurate about the cover and the gutter, as it seems like they should be able to improve what iPhoto shows.

    Daiya:
Thanks for the feedback. You comments regarding the dust jacket is a common one among users here but more for too dark photos. Your post will give other first time users a good idea of what to expect.
Regarding the Time comment: your delivery time was just about the same as mine, ordered 12/6 and arrived 12/12, std shipping.
    Happy Holidays
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • When I start iPhoto it says the library needs to be updated and when I try to do that it says that the program is in use or unreadable. This is the the first time I have ever launched it. What do I do?

When I start iPhoto it says the library needs to be updated and when I try to do that it says that the program is in use or unreadable. This is the the first time I have ever launched it. What do I do? It keeps going around in circles. I have tried re-starting the computer and re-launching the program holding down the option-command keys. Neither helped.

What version of iPhoto are you using?
This is the the first time I have ever launched it.
Does that mean there are no photos in the library? If so move it to the Trash bin in the Dock and launch iPhoto again.
If there are photos in the library do the following:
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button,
and select the library you want to add from those in the selection window.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note 1: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.
Note 2:  Your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

  • IPhoto nightmare. Tried to import photos using Nikon software for the first time and all my photos disappeared from iPhoto 8.1.2 (and everything from itunes too). Newly reinstalled iPhoto crashes as soon as I import anything now.

Macbook OSX 10.5.8, iPhoto 8.1.2. I just tried to import some photos using Nikon software (View NX2) for the first time. When I next looked into iPhoto it was empty (so was iTunes but that's another story). I had backed up photos fairly recently but don't use time machine. Searched in vain everywhere and must have done something wrong because iPhoto wouldn't then open at all, saying it was unreadable. After a lot more attempts to recover I uninstalled iPhoto and the receipts and reinstalled from my original disc. It seemed to be ok and imported some photos from my iphone but as soon as the import is complete iPhoto crashes and when opened again it is empty. Have tried this several times and have shut down and have tried rebuilding with the alt and cmd buttons but nothing seems to help. Any ideas?

not a reply but not sure how to add something to my own thread! It seems that Desktop was damaged too as when I try to open it a screen says there is no application selected to open Desktop with. No idea what I should choose! Any help appreciated, have really made a mess of my MacBook this time.

  • My Iphone 4 just updated to the iOS6.  I've connected it to my computer for the first time since then, and wanted to back up my photos in iPhoto.  However, although Iphoto recognized my phone, it shows no photos to upload or backup. ??

My Iphone 4 just updated to the iOS6.  I've connected it to my computer for the first time since then, and wanted to back up my photos in iPhoto.  However, although Iphoto recognized my phone, it shows no photos to upload or backup.  It lists my phone in the "devices" category on the left bar, but no longer shows any of my photos.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

I've reread your question several times and am not sure I understand it.
Are you trying to basically start over, as if you just took your iPhone out of the box?  If so, do:
Settings > General > Reset > Erase all content and settings
