IPhoto Book Hardcover Size (Large)?

What size is the cover of a large hardcover iPhoto book? I know the pages are 11" x 8.5", but I assume the cover is slightly larger. I'm interested because I'm creating a custom cover in Photoshop and I'd like to get the exact measurements so that my image can fit perfectly. Any help would be very much appriciated.
Thanks!

Greetings,
I would like to use a special font in my iPhoto book (hardcover large size). When I Preview the book, the font shows up as it should, but I'm not sure if it gets embedded in the document sent to Apple when you go "Buy Book" or not.
Preview your book before you place your order. In general, what you see is what you get: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040
Also, books are generally printed only in sets of 4 pages (4 sides). Mine comes to a number that is a multiple of 4, but the dustcover and outside cover are included in that number. Will Apple automatically insert white pages to make up the difference? or should I add 2 more pages?
As long as your book is within the Min/Max number of pages listed here, http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3412, whatever you see in iPhoto is what you will get in the printed version of the book (as far as number of pages goes)
Hope that helps.

  • IPhoto book hardcover - versus hardcover jacket

    Does anyone know if ....
the hardcover book in iPhoto 09 can be used without the book jacket? I noticed that past users have posted their images on flickr - their hardcover books show an image directly placed on the hardcover (versus a jacket covering the hardcover). Is this how it is done in '09?
Does the hardcover have an image on it too (ie: if you removed the jacket / protector from the book). I prefer NOT to have a jacket on the book if that's possible. OR are the new hardcover books plain black with nothing on the spine or cover? What do the hardcover books look like without the paper jacket?

That is the answer to your question - that is why I said it - the ONLY way to purchase iPhoto '09 books that I am aware of is to own iPhoto '09 - plain and simple
So when the answer to you question is that you need a different product than you have my choices are to ignore your question, to tell you it is impossible (which it is without a purchase) or to tell you what to purchase to accomplish your desire which is what I did - sorry that you really were not interested in knowing the correct answer to your question
Probably a third or so of the questions here are about doing things that the OPs software does not do and most of us, if we are aware of a solution even if it involves a purchase, suggest a solution
And most people actually seem to prefer that the get a correct answer - a few do not and only want the answer that they want which is not possible

  • IPhoto Book - extra large size choice

I have about 325 photos selected for an iPhoto book for my husbands birthday gift. I wish to order the extra large size but it does not show up as one of the choices. All choices indicate 8 1/2 x 11". Can you assist? thank you.

  • IPhoto Book Colour Profiles & File Sizes?

I want to make a book in iPhoto. All my images are Adobe RGB. Do I need to change the colour profile.
I have a Mac with and Apple flat screen that has been colour balanced. So all the images look good. I am just concerned that they will be printed in a different profile and look rubbish.
What is the smallest file size and resolution that will look good.
    Any other helpful advice.

Here's what Apple responded with when I asked them about book material and print quality:
"Thank you for contacting the Apple Print Products Customer Service.
I understand that you would like to know the printing process that is used and the color mode the files should be in, so you can better advise users in the iPhoto forum.
iPhoto version 4 or later, allows you to import and print files through the Apple Print Product service as RGB, grayscale, or CMYK color space. JPEG files with *RGB color space are recommended for best results.*
While iPhoto 2 can import files of various formats, including RGB color, grayscale, and CMYK, this version requires JPEG files with RGB color space when printing photos and books.

Here are some of the technical specifications for the books, cards, and calendars. I hope this gives you an idea about their quality and form.
    BOOKS
All iPhoto books are printed using acid-free paper for long-lasting image quality. The photos are printed at a high resolution (300DPI if you use iPhoto 6). There is no external modification--such as sharpening or contrast adjustment--of the photos; what you see in the application is what is printed in the book.
    Hardcovers Books
The cover is hard-bound and covered in linen. You select the linen color during the book-ordering process. The hardcover books have a solid, stiff binding that is glued and crimped. The internal pages, measuring 8.5 x 11 inches, are printed on McCoy 100# Text Gloss paper stock.
    Softcover Books
The softcover books come in three sizes:
    - Large 8.5 x 11 inches
    - Medium 6 x 8 inches
    - Small 2.6 x 3.5 inches
All of the softcover books have internal pages that are printed on McCoy 100# Text Gloss paper stock. The large softcover book has a white cover (Kromekoteplus Folding Cover, 16 point) with a cutout on the front that reveals the cover-page photo in the book. The covers for the medium and small softcover books have the cover image and title printed directly on the cover. All of the softcover books have a glued binding and feature a thick cover of McCoy 100# Cover Gloss paper stock.
    CARDS
All cards are printed on McCoy 120# Silk Cover paper stock. The postcards measure 4 x 6 inches, and the greeting cards measure 5 x 7inches.
    CALENDARS
All calendars measure 8 x 10 inches and are printed on McCoy 100# Silk Cover paper stock.
To ensure the best print quality, we have chosen to use Kodak NexPress technology. The press uses a dry toner, which is fused to the surface of the paper. Please see NexPress' site for more information:

I hope you find this information helpful in answering questions on the iPhoto forum."
As for file size, keep the pixel dimension of the photo the largest you can. That will convert to the highest resolution possible when converted to the pdf for uploading and printing. iPhoto will assign a warning flag to those photos that end up with a dpi of less than 180 when added to a particular frame in the book. When added to a smaller frame the warning flag may go away. I've printed books with that warning and was happy with the results.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

To change a book size duplicate it (select the book in the source pane and press command and D) since text flow and picture  placements can change due to the size differences - then click on change themes, select the same theme and the new size
    check it carefully
Before ordering your book preview it using this method - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - and save the resulting PDF for reference - the delivered book will match it.

  • Size of digital images for reproduction in iPhoto Books

I have been reading comments in this forum and have become confused reading about image size in iphoto books. I have some very old scanned photos saved in tiff format files on an external hard-drive and want to make a book using them. I don't want to compromise the altered quality of these old photos since so many are over 100 years old and were in poor condition when scanned. I corrected them as best I could using Photoshop and saved them them in tiff form in storage. Can I leave them as a tiff (cropped to 4:3ratio) when I import them to iPhoto or do I have to convert them to j-pegs BEFORE importing? I realize that these files are larger than a j-peg of the same photo so the entire 100 page book is quite large. If so will j-peg format make these look worse in the printing? iphoto's instructions skip over this detail. Could some please help me with an answer to this?

    Dognut:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You can use the tiffs. There won't be a problem. The only restriction is Apple can't use CMYK color. I've always used jpgs without a problem. As long as the number of pixels are high you should get good results. The downside to using tiffs is that iPhoto will copy them into the library and will take up a lot of disk space. But you can always delete them from iPhoto when you've ordered and received your book to free up disk space.

  • Binding Quality of Hardcover iPhoto Books

I'm interested to hear of the experiences of other iPhoto users with the new hardcover iPhoto books. I just received a new hardcover book I made for my wife. The book looks beautiful and the printing is great. However, the binding seems to be a little flimsy, with the back flyleaf pulling away from the cover. Since this is all that holds the pages between the covers, I'm concerned that the pages may eventually fall out. The last time I ordered a hardcover book from Apple was in 2003, and that book had cloth-covered boards and the binding system seemed much sturdier.
I am currently working on a large iPhoto book that will contain even more pages (more than 50 double-sided sheets) than the one I just received. This is to be a Christmas gift for a relative and I want to order it with a hardcover. However, if the binding is unreliable, I would consider a spiral-bound version instead.
Does anyone here have an opinion about Apple's hardcover binding?

    Michael
Welcome to the Apple user to user assistance forums.
I am happy with the binding - I have books from both iPhoto '08 and '09 and have had no problems with either - if your binding is unacceptable I'm sure Apple will correct it - http://www.apple.com/support/photoservices/returns/
I've not seen a single post here about pages falling out since I've been involved - do a search of the forum to verify for yourself

  • Can I change the size of my iphoto book, when I am ready, but changed the wrong size

    Hallo,
after several weeks work with my iphoto book, I discover, that I choosed the wrong size.
I choosed  the size- "large book" instead of   XL book 33x31 cm .
Can I change or have I do do the work twice.
    Many thanks

select the book in the source pane on the left and duplicate it (command-D) and then click on the themes button and select the new size/style/theme  --  closely inspect the book to be sure it is still correct (text may reflow due to size changes as may photo arrangement) - preview (

  • Iphoto Books: How to Enable "fit photo to frame size" when theme grays it out by default

Don't know if this has been posted before or not, but I've been using the "Modern" Theme in iPhoto books and trying for the life of me to figure out how to get my photos to not crop while they're in a single-photo framed layout (I'm not using 4:3 photos; mine are 8.5" by 11"). Even fully zoomed out my photos cut off at the top and bottom. I knew about the "fit photo to frame size" option but the theme had it greyed out--except for on one page, in which it was already enabled. So I must have done it before without paying attention, but it took forever to figure out how to do it again.
    Here's how:
    1. Open up the page you want to modify. I'm assuming here that your photos are already placed, but if not, place the photo you want to use.
    2. Click the Layout tab.
    3. Change the layout to the single page full bleed option--no frame. Your photo should now be blown up across the page.
    4. Right click the photo. The "fit photo to frame size" option should now be available for you to check off. Go ahead and activate it.
    5. Change the layout back to the single photo framed option. Your photo will now fit inside the frame, although to truly see the whole thing you have to open up the Options tab and select the borderless option.
To save time in steps 1-3, and step 5, you can also change the layout of all your pages at once by clicking page 1 (not the cover, the next page), then opening the Layout tab, then selecting the layout you want. You still have select the "fit photo to frame size" individually for each photo.
Hope this is useful for people.
    - Jake

There is an option for the Initial View that is "Magnification:" "Fit Page".  And this works for the initial page when the PDF is opened and it does not matter what the page size it, Acrobat/Reader will automatically fill the screen with the page. If you want the zoom type to change with each page then you need  add a page open script to each page to set the pages zoom type to "zoomtype.fitP"
    this.zoomType = zoomtype.fitP;

Whenever you remove system modifications, they must be removed completely, and the only way to do that is to use the uninstallation tool, if any, provided by the third-party developers, or to follow their instructions. If the software has been incompletely removed, you may have to re-download or even reinstall it in order to finish the job.
Here are some general guidelines. Suppose you want to remove something called “BrickYourMac.” First, consult the product's Help menu, if there is one, for instructions. Finding none there, look on the developer's website, say www.brickyourmac.com. (That may not be the actual name of the site; if necessary, search the Web for the product name.) If you don’t find anything on the website or in your search, email the developer. While you're waiting for a response, download BrickYourMac.dmg and open it. There may be an application in there such as “Uninstall BrickYourMac.” If not, open “BrickYourMac.pkg” and look for an Uninstall button.
If you can’t remove software in any other way, you’ll have to erase your boot volume and perform a clean reinstallation of OS X. Never install any third-party software unless you're sure you know how to uninstall it; otherwise you may create problems that are very hard to solve.
Trying to remove complex system modifications by hunting for files by name often will not work and may make the problem worse. The same goes for "utilities" that purport to remove software.

  • Iphoto 11 - page size for book

    Hi,
I'm using iphoto 11 and i would like to produce a book that will be printed on A4 pages.
i want to produce a pdf file on an a4 page format.
how can i do that ?

I'm not sure that you can.
iPhoto books come a variety of sizes, none of them A4. Therefore attempting to print onto A4 will result in either cropping or distortion.

  • IPhoto books in A4 (ISO) size

Hi, does anyone have any idea if it is possible to create / import different iPhoto book sizes in ISO size format? I am looking to create an A4 size book and to print it out on my own colour printer. I saw an article that said it was possible to edit a plist file - but no details were provided. I am also reluctant to do this even if I do find the details. I am looking for a plug-in or file template that is in A4 format that I can just drop into a folder.
As for design / layout I am looking to have 2 landscape format pictures on each page (210 mm x 148.5 mm).
    Thanks

Hi, Bernard. I'm not sure if this will help, but this is the response I got when I asked:

  • How do you write (large) texts in an iPhoto book?

I am making an Iphoto book and want some of the pages to be dedicated to large texts. The only problem is that when I press the text box and start writing, I can't actually see what I am writing. Then if I click away I can see the text I have written. If I click the box again, and start writing again (without being able to see anything written), I write from the beginning, not from where I finished the previous writing. Plus, I can't delete the text if I make a mistake.

If the test library worked at it should with the book text then you need to repair your original library. Try the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - Run Option #4, Rebuild Database, followed by Option #1 if needed.
