Iphoto Book Info

When you create a book from within iphoto, and you use intro pages that contain text and pages that uses specified # of pages.....What file/s is this info being saved to? Is it the preferences or the library's AlbumData.xml file?
I would like to know this so that I can back up my files and not have to worry about a corrupt library and losing all the info again.
Thanks

I've not seen that before - a couple of things to try
A good general step for strange issues is to renew the iPhoto preference file - quit iPhoto and go to "your user name" ==> library ==> preferences ==> com.apple.iPhoto.plist and trash it - launch iPhoto which creates a fresh new default preference file and reset any personal preferences you have changed and if you have moved the iPhoto library repoint to it. This may help
This does not affect your photos or any database information (keywords, faces, places, ratings, etc) in any way - they are stored in the iPhoto library - the iPhoto preference file simply controls how iPhoto works - which is why renewing it is a good first step.
Go to your Apple account and re-enter (do not just verify) all of the information the and be sure one click ordering is on

  • How to fix lost connections to original high-resolution pictures in iPhoto and how to import an iPhoto Book from one iPhoto library to another

    Hi there,
I am using a MBP Pro with 8 GB cache and 1 TB HDD from beginning of 2011 with OS X Yosemite and iPhoto version 9.6 (910.29).
I created an iPhoto Book to print which contains my best pictures of 2013 and 2014. Then I got an error message when I wanted to print the book, saying (translated from German):
    Book could not be created.
With photo p233432343.jpg there was an error. The original version of that photo with full resolution could not be found or is damaged. Please replace the photo or delete it from your book.
When I enquired further, I found out, that many, many pictures in my iPhoto library have that problem - only the thumbnail picture is found by iPhoto, but not the one with the high resolution. When looking at the photos in detail one sees that they are not sharp because obviously the photo book only refers to the thumbnail. When I went into the iPhoto Library using Finder, I saw that the original high res photos are still there. As there are an estimated 3000 photos with a lost connection (some still have, it but about 1/2 of my photos don´t), it does not make sense to import those photos manually. This photo book is just the tip of the iceberg, so to say.
Then I looked for solutions in some forums. I had two lPhoto libraries, one on my HDD (120GB) and one on an external HDD (175GB). Assuming there might be problems, I have deleted (moved) the one on my HDD, because the "right one" is the one on my external HDD and started iPHoto again using the alt key. But that did not work either.
I then tried to repair my iPhoto library using iPhoto Library Manager, and merged and rebuilt libraries. The library that came out was crap - all folders that had lost connections to the high resolution pictures now have zero photos in it. Also it is lacking the projects, including the photo book I created.
Then I went to find out if there is a way to import the iphoto book project from the old, corrupt library into the new, repaired library but could not find anything. It can only be exported as a file structure or website. As the file structure is missing the high res pictures, that does not even solve the "little" problem of the photobook.
I would REALLY appreciate your help on the two questions:
1- Can you advise what I need to to do to to get the connection to the high resolution photos established again  ? As it is more than 3000 photos, I use an automated way of reestablishing that connection. Probably an answer to this question would make question 2 irrelevant.
2- Do you know if there is a way to export and import a book project created in iPhoto from one library to another ?

1 - Select  the thumbnail of one of the problem photos and use the File ➙ Reveal in Finder ➙ Original menu option.  This will take you to the folder containing the original file with that file selected by the Finder.
You can also use Find Any File to search for that file (get the file name from the Info pane in iPhoto). You will find the thumbnail version and maybe an edited version also.  Made sure what is found is the large, original version and note were it's located.  Search all of your drives with FAF just in case.
If you don't fine the full sized version then the only recourse is to use a file recovery application like   SubrosaSoft FileSalvage on your drives to see if any of your full sized photos can be recovered.   If you find enough files to make the purchase of the software worthwhile buy it and recover the files.  However, since it may have been quite a while since you discovered the missing originals it seems unlikely you'll be able to recover any due to being overwritten.
2 - book projects are just entries in the library databases and can't be exported to another library.

  • IPhoto book displaying corrupt pictures

I successfully ordered a number of calendars iLife 08. Image quality was great ... no complaints. HOWEVER, when I received my first hardcover book, I was surprised to see 8 photos displaying what appeared to be corrupt files.
Subsequently, with the help of Apple Photo Services, I have tried to determine what the problem may be with the photos or if the problem lies with IPhoto! I examined every photo, tried inserting them in various programs, ran some through PhotoShop and all appears well. I followed the following instructions from Apple:
Our engineers suggest the following troubleshooting steps. I hope
this will help resolve this issue and allow you to resubmit your
    order:
    1. Close iPhoto and use Software Update to install the latest
version of iPhoto and Mac OS. For more information on using
Software Update, see the article entitled
    “Updating your software” at
    docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh292.html
    2. Once the installation is complete, launch iPhoto.
    3. Select your book from the Source list on the left.
    4. Select Print from the File menu.
    5. Click the Preview button on the bottom left. This will create a
PDF of your book and display it using the Preview application.
If the PDF no longer shows corrupt images, you may resubmit your
book order by clicking the Buy Book button.
If the PDF still shows missing images, follow these steps:
    1. Return to iPhoto and go to Page 25.
    2. Press and hold the Control key while clicking on the appropriate
image. This should display a contextual menu.
    3. From the contextual menu, select Edit Photo.
If you can see the photo after selecting Edit Photo, but the PDF
preview still does not display this image, please let us know by
replying to this email and we will investigate further.
If you cannot see the photo after selecting Edit Photo, or you get
a gray square with an “!” in the middle, then the original photo is
damaged or cannot be found. If you have a backup copy of the image
file, you can copy it back onto your computer and import it again
into your iPhoto book. If you do not have a backup copy of your
missing image, you may wish to replace the missing images with
other images prior to resubmitting your book.
Be sure to preview the PDF of your book (step 5 in the
“troubleshooting” section above) before resubmitting your order.
We hope this information helps. Thank you for being an Apple Print
Products customer. We appreciate your business.
To date,I have created saved 8 PDF's of the book file and each one shows different corrupt files while at the same time while in iPhoto, all the photos appear okay.
About to give up and either go back to an earlier iPhoto or just go to an alternate vendor.
Any help, suggestions or insight is appreciated. Is iPhoto 7. 1.1 really that buggy?
    Bob

    Robert:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You may have a corrupt database file. Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the first three options. This will rebuild the thumbnails as well as the database file. While you're at it you might as well select the option to repair permissions. See if that makes any difference.
Report back and we'll go from there.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • IPhoto book upload failed using iPhoto 9.4.3 and Mountain Lion

    Hi
I have tried to upload iPhoto book several times but the upload failed.  I have tried rebooting my iMac in Safe Mode but this results in iPhoto closing when I try to buy my book.  I have uploaded books in the past using Snow Leopard with no issues.

I hope this helps, thank you for taking an interest in this problem.

  • IPhoto books archival???

Color photographs I took 20 years ago are now fading and turning yellow in my albums while the black and white pictures in my grandmother's scrapbooks look just fine.
Does anyone know how long iPhoto books last?
Will my kids be able to show them to their grandchildren 50 years from now?
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    mackirk:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. There was a couple of threads a while back with some info on the archival quality of the paper, etc. used in the books. Do a search for book, paper qualtiy, archival, and see if you can find them.
On another note, I make an iDVD slideshow of each of the books pages with iDVD, burn the iDVD project and include it with each book. It makes a nice additional gift and a good way for a group to view the book at one time. Here's how I do it.
1 - with the book complete and open in iPhoto type Control-P.
2 - in the Print window click on the PDF button and select the "Send PDF to iPhoto" option.
3 - the Automator workflow will start. You may need to close all windows so the automator window that asks you to select an existing album in iPhoto to add the page files to or create a new album will be visible. At times it does not come to the forefront and you might think nothing is happening.
4 - when the aforementioned window comes up select or create an album and click continue.
5 - in iPhoto there will be a new album with a jpg file for each page of the book including the cover.
6 - open iDVD, select a theme and in the top menu create a slideshow.
7 - open the slideshow window and go to the Media/photos pane.
8 - select the album in iPhoto with the book pages and drag into the slideshow organization window on the left.
9 - select your transition, music to add, any titles or comments you might want to add and generally finish off the iDVD project.
I was very favorably impressed with the resulting iDVD the first time I tried it. It's a way to give a "copy" of the book to several recipients.
    Do you Twango?

  • IPhoto Book Quality

I am interested in hearing about other peoples experiances with the print quality of thier iPhoto 6 books.
I have ordered two iPhoto books, the first about a year and half ago with iPhoto v5 came out spectacularly. The most recent I just received today ordered via iPhot v6. I am not to happy with. It has the following problems...
    1. Washed out colors. Several of the photos have distinctly muddled colors. This washed out effect is not consistant and varies from photo to photo.
    2. Blurry photos. The printing process has severely blurred some photos as if the print heads of the printer where misaligned.
    3. Banding. Several of the photos indicate print banding such that occurs on low end inkjets.
    4. Print artifacts. Several pages contain marks and blemishes in the white borders and margins.
I have emailed support asking to retun the book but beyond that does anyone have ideas of things I could do to get a better quality print out? Thanks.
    - C. Thomas

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I've had very good luck with book but others have experienced what you have to some extent or another. It's probable that your book is a on time error and you should contact Apple and ask for a refund - http://www.apple.com/support/iphoto/customerservice/orderbooks/. Apple has been very good at correcting such problems.
Regarding quality of the books and materials the following is what I received back from Apple regarding an email asking about material and print quality:
I contacted Apple and asked for information that I could pass on. Here's the reply I received from Apple:
"Thank you for contacting the Apple Print Products Customer Service.
I understand that you would like to know the printing process that is used and the color mode the files should be in, so you can better advise users in the iPhoto forum.
iPhoto version 4 or later, allows you to import and print files through the Apple Print Product service as RGB, grayscale, or CMYK color space. JPEG files with RGB color space are recommended for best results.
While iPhoto 2 can import files of various formats, including RGB color, grayscale, and CMYK, this version requires JPEG files with RGB color space when printing photos and books.

Here are some of the technical specifications for the books, cards, and calendars. I hope this gives you an idea about their quality and form.
    BOOKS
All iPhoto books are printed using acid-free paper for long-lasting image quality. The photos are printed at a high resolution (300DPI if you use iPhoto 6). There is no external modification--such as sharpening or contrast adjustment--of the photos; what you see in the application is what is printed in the book.
    Hardcovers Books
The cover is hard-bound and covered in linen. You select the linen color during the book-ordering process. The hardcover books have a solid, stiff binding that is glued and crimped. The internal pages, measuring 8.5 x 11 inches, are printed on McCoy 100# Text Gloss paper stock.
    Softcover Books
The softcover books come in three sizes:
    - Large 8.5 x 11 inches
    - Medium 6 x 8 inches
    - Small 2.6 x 3.5 inches
All of the softcover books have internal pages that are printed on McCoy 100# Text Gloss paper stock. The large softcover book has a white cover (Kromekoteplus Folding Cover, 16 point) with a cutout on the front that reveals the cover-page photo in the book. The covers for the medium and small softcover books have the cover image and title printed directly on the cover. All of the softcover books have a glued binding and feature a thick cover of McCoy 100# Cover Gloss paper stock.
    CARDS
All cards are printed on McCoy 120# Silk Cover paper stock. The postcards measure 4 x 6 inches, and the greeting cards measure 5 x 7inches.
    CALENDARS
All calendars measure 8 x 10 inches and are printed on McCoy 100# Silk Cover paper stock.
To ensure the best print quality, we have chosen to use Kodak NexPress technology. The press uses a dry toner, which is fused to the surface of the paper. Please see NexPress' site for more information:
KODAK NEXPRESS 2500 Digital Production Color Press
I hope you find this information helpful in answering questions on the iPhoto forum."

  • Iphoto books -- color management & sharpening

I have recently decided to try to print photos from a trip to New Zealand as an Apple iPhoto photo book. (I am using the latest version of iPhoto 6.XXXX.) I have a few basic questions that I'm having a hard time confirming answers to: (1) I read on a discussion forum somewhere (not sure where) that iphoto photo books are color managed to sRGB color space. Can anyone confirm this? (2) To keep my photos in sRGB, I am saving them from Photoshop as sRGB files. When I import the images into iPhoto to make a photo book, I am pointing to them only, rather than having the files recopied into the iPhoto database (save space on my hard drive). I assume this should work to preserve sRGB color space? (3) I do not plan on making any edits of photos in iPhoto itself, although some will presumably be resized by the program given that they will exceed 300 dpi. (4) For sharpening, I plan on saving all my files at 300 dpi and sharpening based on an 11" print. (I'm going to print an 8 1/2" x 11" book.) For photos that are smaller than full page size (i.e., 2 or more photos per page), I assume they'll get downsized in iPhoto, so sharpening won't be perfectly maximized, but this should work pretty well, I hope? Any other suggestions/tips about a work flow? I looked at Amazon for an instruction book on iphoto but the only one I found (the "missing manual" by pogue), only has part of a chapter devoted to iphoto books. If someone tells me that this book, or another, will answer all of these types of questions, I'll buy it. Oh yeah, one more question, is there different quality paper used in the single side photo books vs. double sided photo books (both hardcover). From what I could tell, the single sided paper must be thicker because it permits less photos per page. Any other differences? Thanks in advance, Howard

    Howard:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Apple does prefer the sRGB color space. As far as dpi, just provide the largest pixel dimension file possible. If you want the files to fit the frames in each page exactly the crop to the 4:3 ratio beforehand. However, you can use non 4:3 files. If one is added to a frame it will be scaled to fill the frame, losing some of the image on the larger side. To get the entire photo in the frame Control-click on it and select the Fit photo to frame option.
I believe the same paper is used for single or double sided. Here's what Apple sent me regarding book materials and quality:
I contacted Apple and asked for information that I could pass on. Here's the reply I received from Apple:
Thank you for contacting the Apple Print Products Customer Service.

    Do you Twango?
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • IPhoto Book Colour Profiles & File Sizes?

I want to make a book in iPhoto. All my images are Adobe RGB. Do I need to change the colour profile.
I have a Mac with and Apple flat screen that has been colour balanced. So all the images look good. I am just concerned that they will be printed in a different profile and look rubbish.
What is the smallest file size and resolution that will look good.
    Any other helpful advice.

As for file size, keep the pixel dimension of the photo the largest you can. That will convert to the highest resolution possible when converted to the pdf for uploading and printing. iPhoto will assign a warning flag to those photos that end up with a dpi of less than 180 when added to a particular frame in the book. When added to a smaller frame the warning flag may go away. I've printed books with that warning and was happy with the results.

  • IPhoto Book "Unable to verify credit card information please try again"

    Can anyone please help me?
When trying to order an iPhoto book I keep getting the following message:
"Unable to verify credit card information please try again"
    -One click ordering is enabled
Would appreciate someones help on this.

Last year, and again this year, I was able to buy one iphoto calendar but then when I wanted to buy another to send to a different address, i kept getting the same error message, no matter how many times i double checked and re-entered my billing info. i finally figured out what to do (if i remember correctly, this came from apple customer service after many frustrating back and forths last year):
    - go to the "buy calendar" window
    - click "account info"
    - click "edit shipping address"
    - add a new address (the one you want to ship to)
    - make that new address the default address
    - delete all other addresses
    - then buy it
it's really clunky, but it works for me. i'm assuming this will work for iphoto books, too.

  • IPhoto Book Pics disappeared

I have published 4 iPhoto Books for family use.  In trying to re-order one I discovered that all of the pictures have disappeared from the book.  The text is there but no pictures.  Any ideas on how to fix this?  Thanks

I know that the horse is out of the barn but for future books I suggest you create a new, separate library just for the book. It will be easier to store for long tern in case you want to order another copy at a later date without fear of losing any of the photos.

  • Using iPhoto Book Themes in Aperture

I would like to use the iPhoto book themes in Aperture.
    Anyway of importing them.
    Thanks, Paul.
iMac Intel Core Duo 20", 2 GB RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   Nikon Coolscan V ED, Nikon D200, Iomega MiniMax

In iPhoto-08 I have 13 book themes and in Aperture 2.0.1 I have 8 beautiful themes, fully customizable that is. I am also able to make my own Custom Themes.
The new themes is Formal and Modern Lines.
You can find more info on this at:
    www.apple.com/aperture/features/100.html
I think that the reason for more themes in iPhoto is that iPhoto is aimed at the consumer market and Aperture for the professional market. If I really would like to make a book with the Crayon- or the Water Color theme (would I ever?) I certainly would update preview for those images and then make the book in iPhoto.
IMHO the book options has become more flexible in v2 although there are some issues yet and some features I really would like to see in an upcoming upgrade.
    Regards
    Paulk

  • IPhoto book folder, is there a way to save it?

I've made DVD of my library thru iPhoto, but the book folders are not save. I know you can save them by PDF, in the printing area.
Is there an outside program or any other way aside from saving the entire library?
I hope there is a 3rd party who had developed software.

    springtime,
If you can burn the entire iPhoto Library folder in the Finder, all your book info will be saved. You can swap out this burned library folder with the one in your Pictures folder and it will open in iPhoto with all your images, slideshows, books, etc.
If you also copy the entire iPhoto library folder to an external drive, this will save all the info also and this library can also be opened by iPhoto just like the library on the internal drive.
To open another library on your computer or one on an external drive you would launch iPhoto with the Option key depressed.
When asked it you want to create a new library or open another library, choose to open another and then navigate to where the library is and choose it.
When you launch iPhoto holding down the Option key this is the window you will get.
Create a new library or choose a library to open
Choose to create a new library if that is what you want to do, or choose a library to open by clicking the "choose" button.
If you click the "create library" iPhoto will open with a brand new library for you to import images to. If you click "choose" then you will get this window.
    Open library
Navigate to where the library is on your computer and then choose it.
To burn a library in the finder that is too large for a DVD follow Old Toads advise.
The trick is, to keep a library to a size that will fit on a single DVD that can be burned in the Finder. When a library gets too big, use the Option key to create a new library and start loading new pics in that library.

  • Iphoto book upload problem

When purchasing a Book, iTunes assembles the book then goes to submit but stalls. Tried 3 times with no success
    Solutions anyone?

I was experiencing this same problem:
    1. Upload goes very quickly (a few seconds whether 10 Mb or 33 Mb).
    2. Then I'd get an error message indicating "An error occurred while uploading one of your files. Please check your network connection and click Retry to resend your file"
    3. I'd click the Retry button and it would indicate a successful transfer.
    4. Shortly thereafter, I'd receive the cancelled order e-mail from Apple.
    I am using iPhoto 5.0.4.
After a lot of scouring of the Apple KnowledgeBase and mostly of this forum, I tried many things, none to any avail.
I suspected finally that there may be some kind of network interference or interrution, so first I quit all apps that might access the Internet (e.g., Mail, Safari, iChat). Still no success.
Then I realized I had Earthlink TotalAccess and WeatherBug running in my menu bar. I quit both of these "mini" apps and voila! My upload of my 33 Mb book was successful (it took about ten odd minutes with a DSL connection over old clunky phone lines).
My suspicion is that it was Earthlink TotalAccess which is constantly sending out and receiving a lot of Network info. It's a very old app and not very "Mac-ish" anyway.
It may be that any high data transfers (i.e., photos) can be sensitive to this kind of frequent network traffic. Some have blamed Apple, but now that I think of it, I have had similar problems uploading large quantities of photos to the major services (KodakGallery, Shutterfly, and Snapfish). I even was trying sharedink.com as an alternative and had the same problem with a failed upload of my iPhoto book pdf file.
    Hope this helps!

  • Exporting iphoto book quality

What is the quality of the photos exported to PDF from iphoto? I'm having a professional lab print up my photo book but I would like to select them from iphoto and give them a general idea of layout using the photo book in iphoto. However, I'm concerned about giving them the highest quality photos. It would be much easier to select the photos in iphoto book and burn to disc than finding and exporting.

    scubanut:
Are you going to provide the layout to the printer in the form of a pdf of the book?
From what I've gathered iPhoto uses 300 dpi for it's books. If you look at the iPhoto preference file with Pref Setter and search for dpi you can see the settings for the various sizes of books.
There are several good threads on Apple's book quality, materials, etc. I asked Apple about book quality back when iPhoto 6 was the latest version and here's their response to me:
