IPhoto Book Pics disappeared

I have published 4 iPhoto Books for family use.  In trying to re-order one I discovered that all of the pictures have disappeared from the book.  The text is there but no pictures.  Any ideas on how to fix this?  Thanks

I know that the horse is out of the barn but for future books I suggest you create a new, separate library just for the book. It will be easier to store for long tern in case you want to order another copy at a later date without fear of losing any of the photos.
This tutorial has more info on archiving current books in large libraries: Tutorial No.iP08 - Archiving an iPhoto 9 (11) Book for Later Editing/Ordering.
Are you able to view the photos in their events in full size?

  • IPhoto book - pic not showing

I am creating a iPhoto book. When I view in slideshow mode one of the pics does not show up. How do I ensure that this pic will be on my final product?

Before ordering your book preview it using this method - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - and save the resulting PDF for reference - the delivered book will match it.

Apple keeps books for a short time (used to be 40 days. I've not seen a recent time frame)
    What version did you have?
Books do nor exist except in the iPhoto database so you can not "find" a book vista TM. You restore a previous library (be sure NOT to overwrite your current library) and switch to it

welcome to the apple user to user assistance forums
did you have any problems before the book disappeared?
iPhoto books can be between 20 and 100 pages (10 to 50 sheets of paper) - you can not go below the minimum or above the maximum so that is not the problem
Books do not really exist - they are virtual things that exist only in the iPhoto database - so you can never see them except using iPhoto
Quit iPhoto and depress the option (alt) and command (apple) keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild the library from the last automatic database backup

  • How do i recover a iphoto book i was making that suddenly disappeared

how do i recover a iphoto book i was making that suddenly disappeared

With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a solution.  We can't see your computer so we need to know the details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
what version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
what do you mean by suddenly disappeared? Did you have an iPhoto crash?  Did the book disappear while you were working on it? Describe what you were doing when it disappeared.
    what fixes have you tried?
    where is your library located?
did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring?
are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
    what type of Mac?
how much free space on your boot drive?

  • IPhoto books disappeared before I could order!

Our beloved cat died two nights ago, and my son and I have made two iPhoto books about his life. My son's book was done yesterday, so we ordered it, which went fine. Today I opened iPhoto to finish mine, and it was missing from "projects" as was my son's, and several other projects.
I tried rebuilding the iPhoto library, but that didn't help. What can I do? I am devastated.

I forgot to mention, iPhoto has also been crashing since last night after we ordered my son's book. I have never used time machine, but I guess that is what I will try next if nobody has any ideas that help. But I hope you do! Thanks.

  • Why can I no longer add photos my iPhoto book? Is there a limit to the number of photos? Must I delete unused photos??

Why can I no longer add photos my iPhoto book? Is there a limit to the number of photos? Must I delete unused photos?

This is book # 13 and I've not encountered this problem before. I am dragging photos into the sourse pane but they are not imported. I have other books w/ over 700  pics (not all used) but this has only 300+ so far. I've copied the book to a pdf and it looks as if I'll have to redo it unless there's another solution.

  • IPhoto Book with Missing Pictures

I submitted this problem via the Apple support site but have not received an answer. I am hoping someone visiting this forum might have advice.
I ordered a 50-page hardcover 8.5x11 iPhoto Book (theme: Modern Lines) that I created using iPhoto 6.0 on a G5 Mac running OS 10.4.4. This was my first iPhoto book. The book, when assembled, looked perfect in the main book window, and I also saved a pdf of it, which was (and is) perfect as well. When the book arrived, I was very pleased with the quality of the printing, except that seven photos (some but not all of the photos on four separate pages) were not printed in their places in the book (there is just white space there).
I then opened the saved file of the book within iPhoto on my computer. When I went to the pages where the printed book is missing photos, I was surprised to see the following. In the main book window, the photos appear initially, for just an instant, and then disappear. In the main book window I then just see white spaces where the seven photos should be (just as in the printed book). This was not the case when I first created the book and placed the order – all photos were present in these places in the book (as the pdf I made just before placing the order confirms). Also, curiously, on the pages with the missing photos, even now the photos do appear in the small images of these pages in the page browser at the top of the iPhoto window, although as mentioned, the photos do not appear (except initially for an instant) in the main book window.
I have since updated to iPhoto 6.0.1 and OS 10.4.5, and the book appears the same with missing photos in the main window, but appearing correctly in the browser.
As you can imagine, I am very disappointed to have spent $70 for a book with seven of the critical photos missing. I assume that there is some bug in iPhoto causing this problem. Has anyone experienced anything like this before? Any suggestions?

I looked on the forum for iPhoto 5, and found a discussion of a similar problem: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=315857&tstart=45
Essentially, the picture you see in iPhoto is a corrupted file. In my case, I deleted the pictures from the library that weren't showing up correctly, emptied the trash, and reimported the originals. Voila! No more missing images. Things are now showing up correctly.

  • IPhoto book - resolution questions

What resolution should I use to scan in my printed 4x6 photos to get the best result from iPhoto book? Is 300 ppi sufficient, or should I use 400 or higher? Don't want to scan higher than needed since the files are quite large. Don't know what the resolution is of the printer used by Apple.
Also, is it still the case that I should make sure photos are first cropped to 4x3 for best results? I have the latest version of iLife 5.
    Thanks for advice!
    Tara

Jeff - thanks so much for your reply - very helpful. I'm scanning them all in at 600 dpi to give me options of printing some large.
Another question - does anyone have experience with making photo albums from other programs/services? Are they all about the same in terms of quality? From the few I've checked out, they all look pretty much the same (as advertised) so I'm guessing they are using similar printers/processes and that quality would be about the same. In which case, I can go ahead and be confident that even though I will use iPhoto book because I am a die-hard Mac user and iPhoto is so easy to use, I'm not losing out on a better quality book that might be available through another software/service.
Thanks again for advice - can't wait to make my first iPhoto album of pre-digital camera baby pics for my now 6-year old. I made one for my boss last year that came out great but all the pics came from digital cameras.

  • IPhoto books too light and/or inconsistent???

Hello, Has anyone figured out if the general consensus is that the iphoto books are printing light? An order of 30 medium softcover came out light and also inconsistent from book to book. The hardcover seemed not too light and looked better.
What are others experience, as I would like to try a fix and make all the photos slightly darker and perhaps a bit more saturated....
    Any thoughts??
    THANKS!

I too have had this problem. I have ordered about 10 large books in the past and the photos were vivid and really looked pretty good. But the ones I received about 2 weeks ago were grainy and the images were really washed out. Funny thing is that I also ordered some single prints of the same pics used in the album and they are gorgeous and clear (very saturated!!). I realize the printing process is different with the books vs. the prints, but this was a tremendous difference. I did email support and they refunded me my $90.00 within 3 days of my email with no questions asked.
I have been reading a lot of these posts with a lot of suggestions for "tweaking" preferences, etc., but I'm convinced that there is a problem with the Apple printing or the software upgrades because I have not changed my equipment - the only thing that has changed is the version of iphoto I'm using. There is no other explanation for having 10 books look great and the newest ones looking so bad! I really like having the books and I hope Apple will resolve this soon.
So as to your question about making the photos slightly darker.........well, you still run the risk of receiving another bad book.

  • Decline in quality in small iPhoto book?

Up until this year, I've always been really happy with the books that I've ordered from Apple. I typically do two small iPhotos books each year with photos of my daughter. Back in March, I had problems with my Fall/Winter book. The bindings were defective. In some places, the pages had glue on them. In others, the binding seemed to "crack" and peel away from the pages. I received very good customer service and had the books reprinted (several times), but they were never as well-made as they had been in previous years. I recently printed my Spring/Summer book and have similar issues with the bindings. On my first batch, the binding seemed too thick--that is, about a half inch of my picture was lost in the center binding. I wasn't happy about it but figured that maybe that was the only way the printer could get these little books to stay together. I needed a few more copies of the book, so I ordered three more. These copies had the opposite problem--like my Fall/Winter books, these books didn't seem to have enough glue/binding. As I opened them, the binding seemed to crack and peel away from the pages. I'm concerned that the pages will fall out over time. Again, Apple customer service was excellent, and the books were reprinted for free. Has anyone else had similar quality problems with the small books? Back in March, I sent copies of the defective books back to Apple so they could see the problem, but the situation doesn't seem to have improved. I'm so bummed, because I love these little books. Any suggestions?

    1. no, the first image is specs for the 2 combined files after output from FCPX (not the original motion file). one of the two original files is:
    2. Media Inspector is this:  http://mediainspector.massanti.com  the Mac full report file analyzer.  it calls the final output file (not from motion, but from FCPX after the project has been made with the 720x480 import from Motion used as it's default event, the two (one of which is referenced above) files imported as PR422, paired and exported as h.264:
    3. no, the "try again..." file is not from Motion. I made a 720x480 from Motion to use as default event. Made a 720x480 Anamorphic project in FCPX, added the two files i've been calling 704x480 (but which now that i look at the top pic i guess are 640x480), crop their sides (but not top/bottom!) to fit neatly side by side, and export in h.264 last named "try again... etc".
objective: determine why the paired PR422 files look like crap exported in h.264 as opposed to just one singular one exported in h.264.

  • Digital Camera for great iPhoto book quality

I want to start making iPhoto books, calendars, and cards and was looking to buy a new digital camera in order to do this. I was wondering how many megapixels I should get in order to ensure high quality pictures when I have the books printed out.
    Thanks

..... Be happy with your budget. I had a nice Canon that sold for under $300, as I recall. My pictures and videos came out looking wonderful, I feel. (So did others) Unfortunately, it was eventually ruined, by my very hard use under awful weather conditions. I wasn't always careful. It just went off to recycling heaven.
Shooting nature shots, I must say that I did see other people's pictures that were better than mine. Gosh knows how much those big cameras with telephoto lenses and super-fast shooting cost.
Those cameras are almost unfair competition, since these people could simply put the camera on auto, aim at a moving subject and start shooting multiple pics per second. Of course one of them would catch this or that bird in flight with a fish in its mouth, for example. Fantastic Picture! Yet, it was the camera that made the pic, not the photographer, IMHO.
Eventually, I just called them nature paarazzi, and enjoyed myself despite some rude laughter at my real mistakes. Still is fun. Some photographers are just cruel, but that's different story.

  • Efficient workflow for large iPhoto books

I have searched extensively but if this is covered somewhere else please forgive me and redirect, thanks.
    ===
When making an iPhoto book (love 'em!) I usually use smart albums to make a shortlist of pics to be included - but it isn't usually a short shortlist...(my current book's shortlist is 500+ and I would imagine my books usually end up with somewhere between 300 - 400 pics
So the maximum 100 pages is usually filled with quite a lot of unplaced pics left.  I then whittle down the placed pics to make room for the best of the unplaced... it's a long way from efficient
It would help if there was a way, once having edited out a few placed photos, if the same number of unplaced photos then auto filled in the empty spaces.. I haven't found a way to do that.
If anybody knows a way for me to proceed OTHER THAN the alternative which I do know which is to be more selective in the first place so I start each book with a lower number - if thats what I have to do, so be it but if there was another way.....

FWIW I create a new, separate library for each book.  I assemble the photos to be used in to an album in the main library and then copy it to the book library with the paid version of  iPhoto Library Manager.
When I'm done with the book and it's ordered I cull out the photos I didn't use in the book and then archive the book library to another HD, a CD or DVD disk (if small enough to fit).  This way the book is isolated from the day to day use of my main library and any accidental deletions of photos in the book.  If I want to reorder a copy, edited or not,  I know the book is intact.

  • Had Good Luck in ordering 1st iPhoto Book

First iPhoto Book order for me and I had no problems. I really liked it. My scanned photos and digital and email photos all came out looking good.
Pictures looked sharp, esp. my flowers pics. I would not hesitate to do another.
