IPhoto Book Problem

I created a Book using IPhoto.  Everything is to my liking so I clicked on "Buy Book."  Oddly enough it skips to a screen that makes it appear I have selected an "Extra Large Book" for around $52.  I have printed books before and my recollection is that there were several options as to size and type of binding.  Now it doesn't allow me to look at the alternatives.  I can't seem to get to an options screen.  Am I doing something fundamentally wrong?

The option for the Book Size is  not easy to spot - look for the tiny buttons (X, XL)  in the lower left corner of the Book Theme display. Which sizes will be available may depend on the type of cover you have selected.

  • Iphoto book - problem with deleting extra pages

I am finishing up a book with iphoto of 85 pages of photos.  I want to delete 6 empty pages, but when I go to All Pages View, hold control key and click, the only option is to add pages.  I don't want to purchase book and assume apple won't charge/print the blank pages.  Any suggestions?  and I'm on a deadline so don't want to go to the store....

Try going to the page view and Control (right) - clicking on the page you want to delete:

  • Can someone help? Iphoto book problem

I am not very tecnical so any advice would be greatly appreciated.  just finished a 32 page book in iphoto. Pressed buy etc. It assembled fine but it seems to be frozen on the upload. No error messages but it's been almost 3 hours and still not finished.

Music or very extensive artwork take longer that pictures or jpg files. Which is what a picture is. 125 photo's should not take that long. You just might have to call apple to see what they can do. Once you stop the download, you get nothing. Since you bought it from them, they will help you. Call 1-800-692-7753. That is the sales department. They can help or direct your call to someone who will. If you have you sales order number that helps.

Just got off the phone with apple support.  If the photo book completes the assembly process but fails during the upload process the problem is in their overloaded servers. They just started a free shipping promotion for the holidays which has increased the traffic dramatically. I bought a calendar a week ago and it went right through. I'm going to try again during less peak times.

I am unable to upload my iphoto book for printing. I have previously uploaded two books without problems. It gets through the assembly step and the blue bar fills up the Upload bar except for a "hair" at the end, then I get the message that upload has failed. Cancel order or try again.

Preview yout book using this method - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040
If it is good boot into safe mode, preview again and after checking again order while in safe mode

  • Problems with Captions in IPhoto Book

I received the IPhoto book I ordered yesterday. Six pages contain mistakes in the photo captions. In all instances the mistakes are misprints of dates (ex (048 instead of 1948). I have looked through the discussion threads and haven't come across anyone who has had this problem. I've emailed Apple Support but wonder if anyone else has had this problem. How can it be solved?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Contact Apple via their iPhoto customer service page, http://www.apple.com/support/iphoto/customerservice/orderbooks/. You should be able to get a refund. Others have reported success in doing so with incorrect books. Good luck.

  • Iphoto book upload problem

When purchasing a Book, iTunes assembles the book then goes to submit but stalls. Tried 3 times with no success
    Solutions anyone?

I was experiencing this same problem:
    1. Upload goes very quickly (a few seconds whether 10 Mb or 33 Mb).
    2. Then I'd get an error message indicating "An error occurred while uploading one of your files. Please check your network connection and click Retry to resend your file"
    3. I'd click the Retry button and it would indicate a successful transfer.
    4. Shortly thereafter, I'd receive the cancelled order e-mail from Apple.
    I am using iPhoto 5.0.4.
After a lot of scouring of the Apple KnowledgeBase and mostly of this forum, I tried many things, none to any avail.
I suspected finally that there may be some kind of network interference or interrution, so first I quit all apps that might access the Internet (e.g., Mail, Safari, iChat). Still no success.
Then I realized I had Earthlink TotalAccess and WeatherBug running in my menu bar. I quit both of these "mini" apps and voila! My upload of my 33 Mb book was successful (it took about ten odd minutes with a DSL connection over old clunky phone lines).
My suspicion is that it was Earthlink TotalAccess which is constantly sending out and receiving a lot of Network info. It's a very old app and not very "Mac-ish" anyway.
It may be that any high data transfers (i.e., photos) can be sensitive to this kind of frequent network traffic. Some have blamed Apple, but now that I think of it, I have had similar problems uploading large quantities of photos to the major services (KodakGallery, Shutterfly, and Snapfish). I even was trying sharedink.com as an alternative and had the same problem with a failed upload of my iPhoto book pdf file.
    Hope this helps!

  • Problems buying an iPhoto book!

    Hi
I've made an iphoto book that I really like. I've spent tons of time making it and I finally tried to buy it. The upload went through without a problem and I got a confirmation and everything. The problems is that after two days I got an e-mail saying that "the file Apple received contains shifted and discolored images". They recommended making a preview of the book befores buying it, and I have done that and in the preview some of the pictures come out all wrong with wrong colours and disfigured images.
Can anybody help me? How can I fix this so that the pictures on my book look normal??
I really, really want to buy this photo album, so I hope someone can help me!

  • HT1040 upload problem iPhoto book

    while ordering iPhoto book,
uploading is interrupted everytime by own process.
    What to do?

It would help if you gave some details like the version of iPhoto and of the OS and the exact error message you are getting - we know nothing about your or your system except what you tell us
    the general answer is
Before ordering your book preview it using this method - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - and save the resulting PDF for reference - the delivered book will match it.
If the preview is good order - if you have a problem then boot into safe mode and order

  • Problem with preview of iPhoto book cover

A friend has assembled a book in iPhoto and we have previewed it by going to File-Print and choosing to open a pdf in Preview. The pdf preview looks fine except for the front cover in which the image and text appear enlarged and shifted, cutting off the top of the cover photo. Attempts to insert a photo with a white border just give the same result - the picture is cropped and shifted.
We then looked at a previous iPhoto book which David has had successfully printed through the Apple book ordering system. This shows exactly the same fault on the cover when opened as a pdf in Preview.
Can we be confident that the new book will also print correctly despite the incorrect cover preview? David is using iLife 09 on a 24" iMac running OS X 10.5.8.
    Andrew

Use the recommended preview method - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040
Assume that it will print exactly like this preview shows - you can save the resulting PDF for reference

  • Iphoto Book Text Problems

The first page of the Iphoto book is setup for text.  When I insert what appears to be an appropriate amount of text, I receive the the red exclamation point.  I have tried shrinking the font, reducing the amount of text and starting over with a clean page.  i still get the warning sign despite the fact that everyting looks fine.

Make sure you have no hidden returns at the end of the text.  Place the cursor at the end of the text and use the Forward Delete key multiple times to get rid of any possible hidden characters, returns, etc. at the end.
Then, as Larry pointed out, if the PDF preview file of the book displays the text as you want it the book will print the same.  Just save the pdf file to compare to the printed copy when it arrives.

  • Problem with iPhoto Book and pictures

    Hello,
When i create a photo book with iphoto, i havent got my photo in the real size. iphoto crop my photos.
Other thing : is it possible to insert a 16/9 photo ? Choose the size of the picture : like square, panoramic ... ????
    Thanks for your help.

You cannot change the actual sizes of the frames in the books. You can make some adjustments to the way your photo is displayed by double-clicking on it. You can resize the photo and move the photo within the frame, but that is about all you can do.

  • DO NOT BUY AN IPHOTO BOOK!!!!!!!

I have been going at it with Apple now for over a month! I ordered a book and it came back with blank pages and with photos not scaled properly. (This was my second iPhoto book. The first one also had several minor printing flaws which we overlooked) I sent three emails via the iPhoto support page and received no replies. Apple promises a response within 48 hrs. Then some two weeks later they had the nerve to send me a survey thanking me for using the web support function and please rate "how we did!" You can only imagine how I responded. I next tried contacted a live person at Apple Care to help me out. I provided them my order number. They indicated that was not a valid order number. Turns out that Apple Care cannot track orders made through iPhoto! No one at Apple Care was even familiar with what an iPhoto book was. I then called Apple corporate hq's and spoke to a "customer care" rep. She assured me I would be contacted within 48 hrs (sound familiar) and my problem would be resolved. I heard nothing for over a week. Calls back to Ms. Graser of customer care were met by voice mail. Finally this week I received a canned response back from Apple. They noted that they would credit the charge back to my card. They also asked if I were interested in reordering my book and if so they would "assist" me. I replied that I was interested in trying to reorder the book. So what does Apple do? Without any further contact to find out why the book came back incomplete (such as a corrupt file or incomlete file transfer), they reprinted the same screwed up book and recharged my credit card for the full amount (including $15 for express shipping)!
BUYER BEWARE! Apple provides no support or quality control for this product. DO NOT BUY!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Heidi,
Welcome to the forums, and I'm sorry about your book. I too have ordered a book very recently and also found several photos to be on the dark side, and several too red as well.
But I believe that there's a "but" here.
I don't know your professional background -- I work in the print industry (I design pages) and I know how hard it is to get the color correction on images just right, EVEN if your monitor is calibrated and your particular version of image processing software is optimized for use with your specific output device. And that's when a professional is behind the wheel, which I am not.
My iMac's monitor is not calibrated, I am not trained to make images look their best for reproduction, and I am using a consumer-level application. With a little bit of research on these forums (which you have done), anyone can find out that the reviews on the iPhoto books' quality are mixed... At the very least you'll know you're taking a calculated risk -- as you said yourself.
I would consider myself a picky customer, but I am not disappointed with the quality of these books, especially considering the price, and knowing how difficult and unpredictable color correction can be. If you have some photos that are good (even if it is only 25 out of 142), then I would suspect the problem is with the "pre-pressing" of these images, not the printing. If the printing was to blame, they would ALL be bad.
That said, I am still sorry about your negative experience. We anticipate these books to be great, and it's a bummer when they aren't.
Full disclosure: I am in fact asking for a refund as well on my recent book, and I too don't like the fact that there is no phone support for iPhoto orders. I sent my e-mail 24 hours ago, so it hasn't been 48 hours yet. The reason I am asking for a refund is not due to print quality (I think I am responsible for the color/darkness thing), but because my $57 softcover 8.5x11 book arrived in a flimsy envelope and got bent during shipping. The (cheaper) calendars I ordered the same day arrived in sturdy boxes, so the logic behind that escapes me.
Anyway. For the future, if you've got a project you really care about, I'd recommend spending a little extra and ordering a "test book" with the minimum amount of pages, using only your most challenging photos, so you'll know how to tweak them for the final book. If it matters that much, the extra money will be well-spent, and in the end, the price/quality factor of these one-of-a-kind books will still be more than acceptable.
    Just my thoughts.
