IPhoto Books Snow Lion: Photos converted with errors

On my new MacBook Air Lion was preinstalled, iPhoto11 is running. The data was transferred from my old MacBook (SnowLeopard, iPhoto11) through the Apple-Team (One-to-One).
Two problems occur - the more puzzling first: Pictures are transformed for Books to order with peculiar mistakes. These cannot be due to missing original data - as photos spread over two pages will be okay on the left side, but with flaws on the right side (see picture taken when looking at Preview of finished book).
If I create PDFs from books instead of Previews, things get worse: 99% of all pictures are corrupted.
Help possible?
The second problem are pictures lost in their edited version: When double-clicking the thumbnail to edit the picture, a warning sign appears: Image not found.
The same is true if I want to watch Slideshows. If i click on "show original in finder" on the thumbnail, then the original is found there, and intact. But the edited version is gone.
How do I show iPhoto the way back to the originals? Can the edited photos be found again?

In regards to the first problem see this topic: Problem on creating Book: Apple Support Communities
The second problem:  you get that when iPhoto loses or breaks the file path to the original file. How you did the transfer will affect how to go about fixing it.

Your profile shows you are running 10.7.4? Is that correct? If so, you cannot download Mountain Lion without purchasing it first. Please post back with the OS version you are actually running.

  • Attempting to Import iphoto book to i-photo

I would like to post several iphoto books to iweb.
I am using iphoto in ilife 08.
    1. I installed ilife and i believe it imported all my photo files.
    2. I created a book.
    3. I have attempted to post the book for others to view. Each Time I hit save as Iphoto
I belive that is saving the PDF files in I-photo as Jpeg. The dialogue box goes through the saving process pages 1-20. I get the dialogue box to name and save. When I hit save in less than 30 seconds, I get the Theapplication unexpectidly quit dialgue box.
In attempting this over with three books over the past few days, I did find by happenstance find some files saved as JPEG in the trash. I was able to import those to iphoto and then create a web page.
How can I get the program to work like I photo 6.
I have 6 or 8 books to complete....
Can I go back to Iphoto 6 ?
    Please advise.

    Bob:
What you're experiencing is an bug that came up with iPhoto 7. It's been discussed extensively along the way. One possible fix is to make sure you have no text boxes left empty. If you have any like that just put a space in it. That fixed it for some.
Others reported that their upgrade to Leopard corrected the problem for them. You can do a search in this forum for PDF and crash to find those topics and see if any of the other possible fixes might work for you.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • TS1424 purchased books that have pages missing with error messages?

I have just purchased three books from itunes and the books have blank pages with error messages on them.  Does anyone know how to fix this probelm?

If you're stuck within an app or you've noticed a problem, simply hold both the home button and sleep/wake button at the same time. It's important to keep your fingers on these buttons until step 3.
After a few seconds the red ‘slide to power off' screen will appear, simply ignore this. Ensure your fingers are still holding down the home and sleep/wake switch.
Shortly after you should see the Apple logo, it's now safe to let go of the iPad's buttons. Your iPad should now boot, beware this process can take up to 15 minutes or so.

  • On each start up iPhoto creates 2 recovered photos folders with nothing in them

Every time i open the program it asks - would i "like to import 21 photos that have not been imported?", regardless of wether I click yes or no, it creates an empty "recovered photos" folder and tells me where it is located. I have to go through these commands each time I open iphoto. any fixes? there are no cards, cameras, or usb sticks connected.

Hi, i have the same issue. I have followed your instructions and iPhoto will now open without creating the two recovered photo's folders.
But when i open the " import " folder now on my desktop it has three folders in it, Data, Modified and Originals.
They have hundreds of folders, pretty much my whole photo collection and of course as soon as i place this folder back into package contents the problem reoccurs.
I have attached a screenshot of the iPhoto Library folder or " package contents "
Any advice on how to proceed would be gratefully received.

  • HT204088 I have reset mt iPad3 and lost my iBooks, books it keeps coming up with error how can I get them back without paying again

    Help anyone please

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Try deleting the problematic book (electing to remove original file if/when prompted) and then re-downloading the file from the iBook store.
You can re-download content purchased from the iBook store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option from the Quick Links section in the top right corner of the iTunes homepage in your iTunes application on your computer.
You can re-download content purchased from the iBook store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option at the bottom of the screen after you tap the store button in the top corner of the iBook app on your iOS device.
If the problem re-occurs, select the content which is causing a problem and use the 'Report a problem' button in Your Purchase History using your computer.

  • Most predictable iPhoto book results

    Hi -
I'm getting ready to order my first iPhoto book, but after reading in this forum about the problems that people have had with sRGB vs. Adobe RGB, and 1.8 vs. 2.2 gamma settings, etc, I want to make sure that my order is as predictable as possible. I don't have a thorough understanding of what I'm talking about when I use these terms, but I want to make at least a minimal best effort to do this right the first time.
    1. After reading in these discussions, it seems that in most cases, the color profile called "Camera RGB" is close enough to "sRGB" for the purposes of printing iPhoto books. Any photos in my book that are NOT either "Camera RGB" or "sRGB" should be converted to "sRGB". Is this correct?
    2. Gamma 1.8 vs. 2.2 - I have a relatively new iMac and the default Display Profile is set to "iMac". When I change it to "sRGB IEC61966-2.1", I hate the affect that it has on the color in general. Everything becomes significantly more bluish and somewhat darker. I used the 'calibrate' function in System Preferences, and that helped a bit, but I don't want to go through the trouble or expense of purchasing a stick-on-the-screen hardware color tester. Do I need to be changing my monitor settings at all, or can I just change my Display Profile back to "iMac" and ignore this issue all together ?
Thanks for any help you may have to offer.

    doogles:
1 - yes. the Camera RGB is very close to sRGB and will give good results. That's what I use. If I do any editing with Photoshop then I'll apply the sRGB profile so as to be consistant.
2 - as far as the monitor profile, I suggest you stick with the iMac. It's an iffy thing and unless you can't print and get reasonably close colors yourself don't change. This site has some good color test chart files you can download and print to see how close your monitor matches the printer. If it's good I would expect the book to be as well.
The key is to not have some Abobe RGB profiles scattered among the others in a book. They print up very differently.
Before ordering be sure to Control click next to a page in the book mode (not on the page) and select Safe as PDF in the contextual menu. Open the pdf file with Preview and check the text and color so make sure all looks well. If it does go ahead and order. Good luck.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. • Trouble ordering iphoto book

Im trying to order an iphoto book and im getting the following error messages.  Im using iphoto version 9.2.3.  Can anyone assist.  These errors are stopping me from ordering my book

default "managed" library (the iPhoto preference to "copy imported items to the iPhoto library is in its checked state)
With iPhoto you can reference your original photos rather than copy them to the iPhoto library - but it has many problems and is strongly NOT recommended
Simply go to the iPhoto preferences and uncheck the default preference to "copy imported items to the iPhoto library" - now iPhoto will link to your external photos rather than copying them
    HOWEVER
iPhoto is very poor at fixing these links if the path changes so replacing failed hardware and upgrading hardware can be very difficult
Importing becomes a two step process - once into your file structure and a second time to iphoto
Deleting becomes a two step process - once in iphoto and then in your file structure
And if you make any modifications in iPhoto ( including having the auto rotate flag set by the camera)  a modified version will be created in the iphoto library and this will not be reflected in your file structure
So is that preference checked or not?
    LN
And BTW - it is very possible that the ones saved from FB will not be high enough resolution to print - FB photos are usually very low resolution

  • Recovery of iPhoto books in iOS 8.0

How can I recover lost photo books from iPhoto after upgrade to iOS 8.0 on my iPad? Apples offers to migrate pictures from iPhoto to Photo, but why wuold I need that? I have all the pics! What I need is the text, setup and everything I invested well over 500 hours in preparing for printouts.
Please help... can´t help to think why Apple is doing this against users.

There is no support at all for photo books in the Photos.app with iOS 8.
Have you kept an iTunes backup of your iPad before you upgraded, so you could try to restore your books to different iPad that still has iOS 7?

  • Printing hardbound books (like Apple's iPhoto books) from Pages docs

I've printed a few hardbound books of photos from iPhoto and have been pleased with the results, particularly those from iPhoto 6.
Recently, I used Pages to lay out a book of photos, game scores, and some text for my son's baseball team. The original idea was to take the pdf file to the local Kinko's and have it printed and bound with transparent covers and plastic ring thing. But Kinko's proved unable to print my full-bleed pages, and the quality of the prints turned out to be worse than I could do with my Canon iP8600 printer at home!
Faced with the task of printing 20 copies of this 24-page book at home, I'm now wondering...can Pages documents (or pdfs) be printed by Apple's book service? If not directly, can I import the pdf file into iPhoto and print each page as a single full-bleed 'photo' using one of the iPhoto templates? I'd have to redo the layout of the Pages book to fit iPhoto's template dimensions, and that would be a LOT of additional work, so I'd like to know beforehand if it is technically possible to print the book in this manner and if Apple would obect to my doing this.
And if none of the above is possible, is there some printing service out there that would accept a pdf file from Pages and print it as a hardbound book similar to Apple's for a reasonable cost?
    Thanks!

No, kinko's does not do hardbound books, at least not here in Japan. All they offer is simple binding of loose pages. Options include plastic spiral-like binding, staples, plastic covers, and basic glue/cloth tape. Papers are whatever you bring in or whatever you print on at the shop. Results are adequate for reports and such, but not for long-term archival purposes or gifts.
As for my own book project, I ended up printing 19 copies on my 8-ink Canon printer using fairly high quality duplex paper. Took several days -- mostly because of the need to buy and install new ink cartridges every few hours (took far more ink than I had expected). The results were far better than could be done on Kinko's printers, but the cheap (not really!!) bindings did not leave a good impression. Moreover, adding the binding cost to the cost of the paper and ink brought the price of each book to over $30 -- more than it would have cost to use Apple's service.
Just after printing and binding these books, I created a 100-page iPhoto book of vacation photos. Book came back in about a week and looked superb. Showed it to the coaches -- the ones who work for printing companies -- and they were quite impressed. Still don't know why they resisted going this route for the baseball book.
Next time, if there IS a next time, I will insist upon using Apple's service.

  • Bring far better iPhoto book-templates back!

Please migrate the iPhoto Book templates to Photos.
Photos is better in a lot of aspects but for us none of the offered book templates gets close to "Old World Travel" or "Asian Travel" etc.
They had a far better variety of pages by default, being able to take more photos at the time and needed far less editing.
The poor Photo books just show e.g. 80 pages of always the same boring page layout. Then the message "can only import 80 photos". In iPhoto I added 220 photos and got a nice varying layout. Boom.
If this (rather easy-to-do thing) is not happening, I guess you lost us as customers!

There are other online book providers that may have a more flexible layout that would suit your needs. Here are some of them:
    Sites for Ordering Bound Books
    Ofoto
    Shutterfly
    SharedInk
    ImageStation
    PhotoWorks
    Viovo
    Blurb
Blurb has an application that you can download and build the book locally before uploading.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • IPhoto Book thumbnail...why is there a grey spot showing?

I just finished building a iPhoto Book. My photos that I used are high resolution photographs. No sign of any low resolution whatsoever. When I scroll through the thumbnails of the book, there is a page (which has three high res photos) where the top photo is located....a big grey box is in its place. However, when I look at the actual book itself (below the thumbnails), the photo is there in all of its glory. When I buy the book, will there be a big blank spot where the photo is supposed to be...or will the photo be there? Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

It means the image is flagged.  When you "roll over" the corner of an image you have the option to flag it for quick access at a later time.  Open the image and click the flag to unflag it.

  • IPhoto freezes when ordering photo

As of today - 29 May 2012, iPhoto freezes when ordering photo prints with the message..
'There was a problem communicating with the Apple Online Store. Please try again.'
I had to 'Force quit' iPhoto to continue.
OK, so maybe the store is down but surely that should not affect the software on both of my computers?
    Andy Forrest

It's OK now - I see the store is open again - but it does seem odd that lack of store makes te application freeze solid!

Just got off the phone with apple support.  If the photo book completes the assembly process but fails during the upload process the problem is in their overloaded servers. They just started a free shipping promotion for the holidays which has increased the traffic dramatically. I bought a calendar a week ago and it went right through. I'm going to try again during less peak times.
    Happy Holidays
