D'avance merci

Now apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

Have you checked the sorting settings to make sure they are as you expect?

I need to download all of my photos from my iPhone 4S and my iPad 2 to my MacBook Air because there is no more storage space available. I want to make sure all my photos are not lost and that they do not return to the original devices because of the cloud. Can someone please help ?

Connect your devices to the computer with the USB cable (one device at a time) and import the photos via iPhoto or Image Capture.
If you have not changed any default settings on your computer, iPhoto will automatically launch when you plug in the device. Then follow the import prompts.

  • How does iPhoto import pictures from iPhone photo stream?

Sorry for so basic a question, but I thought I understood how this was working (in iOS 7 and this version of iPhoto 9.6)  But now, in Yosemite, and iOS 8, I am not sure what is occurring.
My intent is to take pictures on the phone, and when I cable-sync with my iMac, I want to d/l and keep all of the new photos permanently in iPhoto.  I have then gone to Image Capture, brought down a 2nd backup copy, and deleted them off the phone.  This would leave me with an empty Camera Roll, but with 1,000 recent photos available on my phone, via the Photo Stream.
I've used iPhoto for years, and have a large number of pictures there.  Recently, with the advent of the Photo Stream, I'm automatically getting Events added (and added to) like November Photo Stream in iPhoto, which has worked fine.
However, the last few times in iPhoto, I'm getting random photos showing up as unsynced... ones which should have been brought in previously.  And today when I went to clear the photos off the phone in Image Capture it told me I had 2,400 pictures.
If someone could give me (or point me to) a primer on how this is now supposed to behave, I'd appreciate it.  I'm afraid that Apple is structuring all of this toward iCloud-photo storage when they release Photos, and that will not work for me.  I need to keep my pictures locally, although the Stream has been handy.  I need to be sure I'm doing this in a reasonable way... the method I'm using doesn't seem to be working very well.  Thanks again, for all advice.

If you go to the Photo App, then select photo stream, you can delete any of them by selecting the edit button and tapping on them. A delete button or trash can should appear. Excuse me for being a little vague...ive been on iOS 7 for a while now...

  • Why does it take so long for iPhoto 6 to duplicate a photo?

I've got 3GB of RAM and it takes 10 seconds for iPhoto to simply duplicate a photo in my library. It is also a relatively lengthy process on my 20" iMac.
I select "Duplicate" from the menu or command-D, and then the "importing photo" screen comes up, there's a progress bar, and it takes WAY TOO LONG.
I've rebuilt my library many times, fixed permissions, converted all my color profiles to the generic one that iPhoto will place nice with, etc.
It didn't use to take this long, and I only have 7000 photos in my library!
Power Mac Dual 2Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

With my setup it takes 3 seconds to duplicate a 3MB file in iPhoto. A lot will depend on the processor speed (we're the same) memory (again the same) and free space on the HD (I've got much more than 20G). My Mac, however, is a G5 and that may be the difference.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • IPhoto crashes after editing a photo

    Hi,
I'm desperate to tone some photos of our recent wedding so I can post them on the web. I am a long-time iPhoto user and have really not had many problems at all (or I'm able to figure them out), but this one has me stumped.
iPhoto will crash on some photos that were given to me by other photographers. The crash happens when trying to edit the picture in full screen mode OR after editing in an external editor (Photoshop CS), iPhoto will crash when you return to the program. Normally, I return to iPhoto and the picture updates fine and all is well.
The only other change I can think of happened today. I opened iPhoto today and it told me it wanted to rebuild the thumbnails. I let it do this since I thought I had time. After I couldn't edit some of the pictures, I have tried the Command+Option while opening iPhoto and it will rebuild the small thumbnails, but it crashes when i try to "Rebuild all of the photos' thumbnails (this may take a while)". Not sure if that is a clue or not.
Also, I checked some posts here and tried to change the embedded color profile to see if that would help, but no luck there either. I also tried to export a photo that I wanted to edit, opened it in Preview and re-saved it, but again no joy.
I have included the crash log to see if that helps. Thanks again to anyone for helping!

    David:
Try using the Automator application I made for embedding the sRGB profile in image files. You just drop one or a batch of files onto the application and you're done. You can download "Embed sRGB Profile" at Toad's Cellar.

  • My iPHOTO is empty but the photos appear in the Finder "all images" folder

Yesterday my iPhoto '08 was fine, then today, when it came out of sleep mode, there was a Finder window showing two folders: one named 445555 and the other named iPhoto Library. I clicked on the 445555 and the iPhoto opened empty, with no photos, like new. I closed it and tried to reopen from the Dock but it was still empty. Also tried to open from the iPhoto Library folder with the same result. After some despair i found the photos in the "all images" folder in the Finder main window, so i suppose they are OK and in my computer.
How can i restore my iPhoto or at least make a back up of the most recent photos that i don't still have a back up?
    Thanks for the help.

    Jeff
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and point it at the iPhoto Library Folder - which is in your Pictures Folder. If iPhoto sees a valid library there it will open it.
If, however, it does not see a valid library there then your database file is corrupted:
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.
    Regards

  • IPhoto 6 Hangs When "Recovered Photos" Are Opened

iPhoto 6 "recovered" 300+ photos when I updated from iPhoto 5. I can still see the recovered photos in both my library and albums, but if I double-click on the photos, iPhoto 6 hangs with a spinning ball icon requiring a Force Quit to recover. I can open the photos in the "Recovered Photos" album, but I'm not sure how to get them back into my library and other albums. Has anyone been able to do this?
    Thanks, Will
    G5, 2 GHz, Dual Processors   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

When upgrading to iPhoto 6, the 'recovered photos' it finds are stored as follows:
a if you opt to import the photos when iPhoto asks, they are left where iPhoto found them (or lost them, depending on how you view it...) in the 'year' folder system, within the iPhoto Library folder in the Finder; e.g. 2005>12>15>photo.jpg, 2003>10>05>photo2.jpg etc. Within iPhoto itself the photos are grouped in one new roll, and an album is created in the Source list called "Recovered Photos".
b if you opt not to import the photos, they are moved from the 'year' folder system in the Finder into one folder within the iPhoto Library folder, entitled "Recovered Photos". The 'year' folders can be deleted, if they are still there - you should find that they are empty and they are not used by iPhoto 6.
In Case b you can move the "Recovered Photos" folder to anywhere you like, e.g the Desktop, as the photos are no longer associated with iPhoto. In fact, if you decide you need to import some or all of the photos back into iPhoto, you will have to move the RP folder to another location as iPhoto will disallow any import from within the iPhoto Library folder.
Take care either way; in my case I had 1014 recovered photos, which included all of the following:
a originals of some of my photos, the edited versions were still in iPhoto
b random duplicates of original photos
c photos, both original and edited versions, which I had deleted long ago - sometimes as long as 2-3 years, many versions of iPhoto ago!
When I have chance soon I intend to document my own personal recovery procedure / experience, in case it helps anyone else when upgrading. In the meantime, feel free to ask if you have any questions...

  • Why does iPhoto keep copies of deleted photos?

I recently purchased Photoshop Elements 10.  When I imported photos from iPhoto (about 15,000 images) into the PSE organizer, it imported a large number of photos that I had deleted from iPhoto, in some cases months ago.  When I searched in the iPhoto library, sure enough, there were saved masters of all the photos I had thought gone forever.
I understand perfectly well why iPhoto keeps masters of all the photos in the library, so that edits can be reverted etc.  That's not my question.  I want to know why it keeps masters of photos I deleted?  I deleted those pictures for a reason, and I wasn't happy when Photoshop imported all the old blurry shots, headless subjects and duplicates that I thought were long gone.
Is there any safe way to make iPhoto delete photos for real, as in no longer stored anywhere on the hard drive?  Would rebuilding the library do that?
Yes, I emptied the iPhoto trash bin.
No, I've never altered anything in the iPhoto library using Finder, and am very reluctant to allow any third-party software to do so.  Heard too many horror stories.
I'm currently using iPhoto '11, version 9.2.1, if it matters, but some of these deleted photos have been carried along through at least one major iPhoto update.
    Any help would be appreciated.

iPhoto 11 requires that you empty the iPhoto trash and the System Trash as well.
Other than that, this would be a symptom of a damaged database. Assuming this to be the case:
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Iphoto upgrade it says your photos will not be readable following update. Will my photos be lost?

Your photo library will not be readable by previous versions of iphoto after the upgrade. Some may be on the cloud but how can I save them? I haven't backed anything up and can't open iphoto to try. I/ve copied it onto my desktop but can't open that either!
Please help a t otal idiot!

Before you do anything else make a backup of your iPhoto library. Disk drives do fail regularly, and one day all your photos will be gone for sure, if you do not keep copies on a different drive.
You can simply drag theiPhoto library from your Pictures folder to a different disk to create a backup copy.
iphoto upgrade it says your photos will not be readable following update. Will my photos be lost?
You misunderstood the warning.  When you use a new version of iPhoto with yiur iPhoto library, the older iPhoto version will no longer bea ble to read the library, but naturally, the new version you are using now, will be able to show your photos.
So proceed  with the update - that is a routine warning, and is necessary, to be able to use your iPhoto library with the new version of iPhoto.

  • IPhoto vs Canon's Digital Photo Professional for RAW

    Greetings,
Quick question after not finding much while searching the forums:
I’m currently using a MBP C2D, 2.33/2G ram, all updated software. Just got a Canon Rebel XTi, finally putting aside my Canon 35mm (for now anyway).
Can someone offer feedback on iPhoto vs Canon's Digital Photo Professional for RAW editing for someone with limited experience with RAW editing?
I understand there are also other options out there but I'm trying to compare what is basically free/already provided, perhaps upgrading once I become more experienced with Digital/RAW editing.
    Thanks in advance...
    MBP C2D Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    wdunn:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Nearly all, if not all, professionals use RAW in their shooting. There are a lot of advantages to that if you know what you're doing and need the extreme control over the image that pros usually do. I hang out in the iView MediaPro forum. Over there it's nearly all RAW users and I've learned a little of what they can do with fine tuning a photo. It is considerable. But for amateurs like us, jpgs are more than enough.
I've edited and saved a jpg file many times to see if I could detect the "degradation" and couldn't. If one was going to make a very, very large sized print then you might see something after a number of saves. Personally I use Photoshop for my editing and on "special" photos I create a psd file, duplicate the base layer and do my edits on the duplicate layer. That way I can easily compare to the original, and keep the resolution quality the same throughout. But, only on special projects.
    Do you Twango?

  • IPhoto losing keywords depending on photo orientation

In my last post I was trying to figure out how to import a Photoshop Elements 5 catalog into iPhoto. I finally bit the bullet and wrote all the metadata to the files' EXIFs. I was reluctant to do this as it will trigger a 30GB incremental remote backup over a DSL connection. (Oh well).
Anyhow, I keep all my photos on a TeraStation. I have set the preference in iPhoto to NOT copy items to the iPhoto library (I want the pictures to stay on the TeraStation).
As I'm importing my photos, I notice that 99% of my pictures that are in portrait orientation are losing their keywords. I've validated that ALL the metadata is present in the original file on the TS. Yet, for files in portrait mode, iPhoto is COPYING it to the local photo library and losing the keywords in the process.
This looks like a bug to me. The failure seems to be related to the Orientation field of the General EXIF information. For any photos where the Orientation is NOT 1 (in the case of the photo I'm looking at Orientation = "6 (Rotated 90 deg CW)"), iPhoto copies it, rotates the photo, normalizes the Orientation to 1, and in-so-doing drops the keywords.
Has anyone else experienced this? Are there any known work-arounds? I'm not sure if the bug is with iPhoto reading the EXIF or Elements WRITING the EXIF.
    -Miles

The problem is that for the autorotated files the metadata is not read as a new file is created and that's the file that iPhoto reads for metadata. If you look at the Original file with an EXIF viewer like Resolve you'll see that the keywords are there. It's the nature of the beast. That's why I've turned off the auto rotate in my camera, upload to a folder first, rotate those that need it, rename and then import. Saves a lot of headaches down the line.
You can use Xee to losslessly rotate those portrait files and keep the keyword intact so that iPhoto will read them.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • IPhoto 11 won't print photos as cropped

I have an album of photos that I've cropped to specific sizes to fit a collage frame.  iPhoto will not print the photos as I've cropped them.  It insists on scaling (and often re-cropping) them to fit the paper I'm printing on.  How do I force iPhoto to print them as cropped?
Setting a photo size doesn't work because then iPhoto zooms in on the already cropped photo and re-crops.  It also a pain, because then I'd have to print the photos in batches, being sure that I selected all the photos I cropped to a specific size for each batch.

First crop your photo to 3x3:
In the Print window select the paper size (in this example it's 4x6) and a custom print size of 3x3. This is what you'll get, a 3x3 photo on a 4x6 paper size.  You can select any paper size you'd like:
If you select a large paper size you can print multiple 3x3 photos on the same page:

  • IPhoto doesn't recognize all Photo Stream albums.

When I take a photo with my iPhone, the photo goes to my photo stream.  I then send it to my TV Photo Stream album.  The TV Photo Stream album is displayed on my Apple TV.  My issue comes when I sync my iPhone with iPhoto.  iPhoto doesn't display all my photo stream albums, i.e."TV Photo Stream"  How do I get iPhoto to display all of my photo Stream albums?  I only use one account, so I know that I am signed in under the right ID.  I am not sure were to post this inquire, should it go to Photo Stream or iPhoto?  I am not sure what App has the issue, or is it just me?  Thank you,

    iPhoto: 9.5.1 (902.17)
    MacOS X version 10.9.4
Upon opening iPhoto, it asks me what photo library I want to use. At the left hand bottom there is a box saying (translated by me from Norwegian):
"iPhoto cannot start without a photo library. Select a library from the list, find another library on the machine, or create a new library to import files into. The library you chose now, will be used automatically next time you open iPhoto."
Then there is a box with no libraries listed, and underneath I've got the options of creating a new library or simply clicking "other library".
First time this happened I created a new library and thus there are 2 libraries: iPhoto-library and iPhoto-library_2 to chose from when clicking "Other library" There is also a non-selectable (grey) "Photo Booth-library" in the same list, which is in the path user/Photos/iPhoto-library or .../iPhoto-library2. But when clicking either of these the "open" button just keeps flashing indefinitely. Upon trying to open iPhoto-library or iPhoto-library_2 from Finder, it just opens iPhoto and prompting me to chose library like before...
The only thing that I changed (I think) is that I installed PSE 12.
