  • IPhoto "buy book" order fails at end of upload

I have created a 20 pg hard-covered book in iPhoto which I can preview with no problems and I can create a pdf version of it (34.6MB). However, when attempting to buy the book, I get an error message with CANCEL/RETRY as my options at the very end of the upload process. I have tried the following, but still no success:
    (1) safe boot - iPhoto crashes immediately at "BUY BOOK" selection
    (2) set energy savers to off - dies at end of upload
    (3) duplicated the book and tried to purchase duplicated version - dies at end of upload
    (4) changed the theme of the book and tried to purchase it - dies at end of upload
    (5) created a simple card and purchased it with no problems (so my account is fine) and I cancelled the order thereafter
Each page of the book has 2 portrait photos with minimal text underneath. The largest photo size is 4.6MB. All photos are JPGs. I rebooted my iMac each time before trying (2)-(5) above. I am running version 9.4.3 (720.91) of iPhoto. I have turned off my TimeMachine backup too and have all other applications closed when I attempt to purchase the book. To date, I have never had a problem purchasing books (last one in Dec 2012).
    Thanks for any suggestions!

Sadly, no change after updating v10.8.5(combo). A normal boot with an attempt to "buy book" from iPhoto, gets almost to the end of the upload and then gives me the following error:
In Safe boot, I get to the beginning of the Assembly process and iPhoto crashes. Here is a portion of the problem details:
I compiled my book on Thursday evening, thinking that would be the painstaking part. Purchasing it has become too much of a time consuming adventure! I did call Apple Technical Support last evening and the service agent suggested that I check the Apple Support Community discussions, so thank you for taking a greater interest in my problem.
One other thing I found regarding problems submitting photobook orders is at the bottom of http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2516. An excerpt from this webpage is below, but I can't find the "NetServices" entry in my Keychain Access window to try this fix. Do you think this is a piece to my puzzle or simply old info as it was last modified on May 24, 2012?
Again, I was able to order a photocard (cancelled the order within 90 minute window) as a test, so I don't believe I have an account problem.
    excerpt:
If you are using iPhoto '08 or iPhoto '09 and are unable to submit your order after following the steps above, please follow these steps to reset your Keychain:
    Quit iPhoto.
From the Finder menu bar, choose Go > Utilities to access your Utilities folder (or press Shift-Command-U).
In your Utilities folder, open Keychain Access.
Find the "NetServices" entry in your Keychain Access window.
Select the "NetServices" entry and press the delete key.
Reopen iPhoto and attempt to place your order again.
You should be prompted to enter your account information if you deleted the Keychain entry successfully.
After entering your account information, you should be able to complete your order.
If you are unsuccessful with submitting your order, please contact Apple Technical Support.

  • Cannot complete iphoto Buy Book action

I have problem ordering a photobook which took me a long time to create.  When the book is created, and after clicking the "Buy Book" button, everything went smoothly, i.e. I signed in with my Apple ID, provided my credit card and shipment information, and proceeded with sending my order. When the assembly and Upload bar slowly completed, the system halted and later on the error message "An error occured uploading your Order. Click Retry to upload the failed asset again or Cancel Order to cancel your Order. What would you like to do?"
Retried, rebooted (both safe mode and normal mode), previewed and created pdf file format fine but just could not work in the last step. VERY frustrating. Any solutions anyone?

    be sure
Before ordering your book preview it using this method -http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - and save the resulting PDF for reference - the delivered book will match it.
be sure your software is up to date (9.2.3 is the latest version)
Go to your account in the Apple store (store.apple.com) and re-enter your information (this probably is not it but worth a shot) and while there check your order status to verify that nothing is in progress
Boot in safe mode and try again

  • IPhoto Buy Book Error

I have completely finished my book in iPhoto, and when I click on "Buy Book," it says ... "Your book seems to have frames on one or more pages that do not contain photos. You must either change the layout of those pages or place photos in those frames before you can proceed with this book."
I have been through the book 10 times, and I don't see any missing photos. Any thoughts on things I can try?

If you have a one photo per page layout check to make sure it's not like this one:
    These are easy to miss.

  • I'm trying to buy a book. The book is made in I-Photo and when I push buy book button it starts to process and than says--  There was a problem communcating wit the apple store   " help"

I'm trying to buy a book I made in I-photo. I have made a 20 page book in I-photo and when I push the "buy book" button it starts to process and then pops up a sign that say'es There was a problem commucating with the apple store. Please try again.   Help

Are you buying from the correct Print Products Store?  If you are using the wrong store, your AppleID may not be valid.
Is the Print Products Store set correctly in iPhoto Preferences > Advanced?  It should be set to the  same country as your billing address and delivery address, and match the settings of the Apple ID you are using.
And you are using iPhoto '09 or '11, right?  you can no longer buy books from earlier versions.
When you reenter your settings as LarryHN described, don't forget to enable Express Checkout. It is required.

  • IPhoto: solution when "buy book" generates an error.

    Hello all,
I thought I post this. Maybe this will help others who face the same problem.
I created a book in iPhoto. After clicking the "Buy Book" button, I received the message:
<i>There was a problem contacting the Apple online store. Please try again.</i>
I searched the internet and found several other people having the same problem.
Several solutions were also given like:
         1. Temporarily tun of the firewall
         2. Be sure the select, in Preferences in iPhoto under Advanced the book store that matches the country of your Apple ID
         3. Be sure to have the correct and valid credit card data entered in your Apple ID
         4. Be sure the password of your Apple ID is correct
         5. Go to iTunes, "purchase" a free App and if you are prompted to accept Apples policy, do so and try again to buy your book
         6. Apple online store may be down or to busy, try again on a different time.
However, none of these solutions worked for me.
After digging further I finally found the solution (at least for me).
If you have ever made, in System Preferences => Language and Text, under Formats any change, than "Region" will show "Customized" instead of your country. I live in the Netherlands, the default for short date is to show years in two digits. I changed this once (in the past) to show dates with four digits years.
Resetting "Region" to match the country of your Apple ID did the trick.
I was then able to order my book in iPhoto.
    Kind regards,
    emeu1

  • Buy Book doesn't work in iPhoto 6

I have completed a Photo Book. However, pressing Buy Book does nothing at all. I have bought Apple iPhoto books before without any problems. One-click ordering is enabled for my account in the Apple Store (heard this as one possible solution) and I have deleted the old iPhoto preference file in case this was corrupted. Still no luck. Any help welcomed.

In Safari 6 with Developer Tools on go to 'Develop' in the menu bar and click 'Show Error Console' or use the keyboard shortcut Option-Command-C.
I am still working on how to get that to show up using the Inspector interface.

I have rebuilt my iPhoto library and did rebot in Safe Mode.
    Still the same issue.
I also tried it on my MacBook Pro, It freezes on there too.
I can click on the blue bullet points, but not on check out. I have to do a Force Quit.
Need these books for Christmas, Please Help!!

Did the test library work as it should have?  If so then your current library is the culprit.  So make a temporary, backup copy of your library if you don't already have one (Control-click on the library and select Duplicate from the contextual menu) and  apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • IPhoto XL Book buy book quit unexpectedly in safe mode

    Hi,
After compiling all the photos for my 26 pages XL-size photo book, I have been trying to "Buy Book". But iPhoto has been crashing/ no responding during the upload process (after assembly process). I have tried to "buy book" for more than 10 times. No luck. So, I read the discussion board, people suggest that I should do it in safe mode.
So, I went into safe mode, less than 2 minutes after I clicked "Buy Book", it will pop up the error of "iPhoto quit unexpectedly". I have tried it 4 times already and don't know what to do.
Help, please.  Thank you in advance.
    Spec. :
    iPhoto'11, version 9.4.3 (720.91)
    OS X version 10.8.4

Thank you LarryHN and Old Toad.
I did try to resize it to L, but it is too small to my liking, so I did not continue.
Somehow, in my photobook, there were some foreign texts that I copied from websites. Although, it does not give me any error, but I thought, it does not hurt to delete those texts. I clicked "Buy Book", it was not responding again. But it went further than when I tried earlier.
So, what the heck, I thought, I would try to "Buy Book" again, if it does not work I will rebuild my iPhoto library db. But this time it went through, amazingly.
I personally do not think that the deleting foreign texts help in this case, it might simply be about a better internet connection.
Although, I have not checked the Safe Mode yet, and I do not know that it solves the problem of quit unexpectedly or not, but for now, my "Buy Book" mission is accomplished.
    Thanks a lot.

  • IPhoto '11 freezes when try and click "Buy Book". Cannot create order

I have spent countless hours creating a 96 page Photobook. This is for a Christmas present, so I need to order it asap.
Problem is when I click on "Buy Book", a pop-up screen comes up but it is blank and there is no text and the system freezes. I have to force quit iPhoto to get out of it. I have the same problem everytime I restart, so I cannot get into the screen to allow me to place my order.
I only just upgraded to iPhoto '11, before I upgraded I had no issues with the "Buy Book" button. I am running the latest Mac OSX on a Macbook Pro.
    Can anyone help?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Have you applied the latest update, iPhoto 9.1?
Backup the library and try the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache files that are located in the User/Library/Application Support/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding the the Option key. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
    Fix #2
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select options #1, #2 and #6.

  • IPhoto 11 won't let me buy book due to unplaced photos, but they are there!

I have created many photo books in both iPhoto and Aperture and this has not happened before.  I click on the Buy Book button and it says I have unplaced photos and takes me to a page that clearly has all the photos placed. Any suggestions?  Thanks!

You are missing one or more photos - usually on a page requireing a full page photo that is behind places photos - every page must have either a photo or a colored background - if you have any grey backgrounds thoses are problems - in several years I've never seen that error be incorrect

  • IPhoto wont let me purchase. The 'buy book' icon is not clickable.

I made an awesome calendar and album and iPhoto for Xmas which I must purchase ASAP and it wont let me purchase. The 'buy book' icon is not clickable. What do I do and how can I buy my items?

Sorry IGrebe... you'll just have to check it AGAIN!!!
I just spent ANOTHER 7 hours on this thing... in the end it was a single full-page photo that SHOULD have had a solid colored background checked IN THE "BACKGROUND" LIST, but instead it had the palm-tree grey background checked (even though that makes more sense logically to me...) and it stopped everything cold. SO WHAT I NEEDED WAS A SOLID COLOR, even though the lay-out for a single picture shows a grey background...
Let's face it, Apple has some work to do--but in the meantime, so do the users. I had a 28 page book ready a month ago and couldn't get it to work...called Apple Support but that wasn't much use... redid the whole thing with the internet suggestion to put the full-page pictures in LAST but in the end, had to wait to get back at it--redid it a third time --so in all this "quick album" took about 16 hours!! I tried all the on-line suggestions and finally it was changing everything in my full-page background pictures as suggested and checking and re-checking, changing and re-changing... bummer for IGrebe who has 40 pages... it's rather like looking for a needle in a haystack. I felt exactly the way you did... I'd presented the way I wanted it and didn't want to change it.... but I had to be willing to rethink everything, spend hours to make this "simple program" function the way it says it should, and go to bed at 5 a.m. after finally getting this rotten apple to work!
Oh, and when I found the problem, I went back and changed my other pages back to original form ONE AT A TIME to make sure I could still order the book. This works if you're like me and have already 2 or 3 copies of your book so you can use one as a reference. A good memory would solve that issue, but who remembers at 4 in the morning?
    Good luck!

  • Want to Buy Book in iPhoto 9.4.3 told 1 page had photo missing but not so. Changed page to 1 photo only

I want to buy an iphoto book but each time I click on button BUY BOOK I get the message that 1 or more pages have no photo which is not the case.  It shows me one particular page with exclamation mark and I have changed the layout to even ONE photo but still get the same message.  Tried various different layouts but still the same.  All this having upgraded my operating system and my iPhoto software.  Please can someone help.  First time user of this support commuinity.  Living in hope

Then I tried to preview the book like LN described "Assembling book" came up, blue bar finished but then nothing.
When the preview fails, your book contains a photo that cannot be processed. So it will not help to try to send it Apple, SafeMode or not.
You have to find out, which of your photos is causing the problem.  Is there a partial preview, so you can check, how far the preview proceeded, before it crashed? Is there anything suspicious in the pdf you saved? Any photo not looking like it should?
I'd try to make a duplicate of your book  (select it in the source list, then use the command "Photos > Copy".
Delete half of the photos from your book and try again to create a preview. Does that work? if not proceed with deleting photos, until you hit the bad one, that will make the preview crash.
Then replace that photo in your original book.

  • Iphoto crashes while trying to buy book

I've bought quite a few books without any problem, but now everything works fine until I click buy book, it will start assembling the book, its finshing that part...pauses for a second and then crashes.
I've tried repairing disk permissions, trashing the pref files, etc.
    Any ideas?
    thanks,
    Jeff

Look, like I said, I'm the ultimate apple fan, and I realize your most likely a paid apple troller who's income is based on toning down known apple software issues, and that is fine.
But you mentioned "There are millions of iPhoto users that are not having this problem". So is that 1 million, 10 million, 500 million(that's half a billion pal). So I think my very modest claim of many many thousands is quite modest to your mention of "millions" which could be anywhere from 1 million to almost 1 billion.
I've already reinstalled iPhoto from the disk it came on and done x, y and z. As much as I LOVE my Iphone, I've just noticed a serious lag in apples response to very very basic problems for the rest of the Mac platform, IE system performance, Ilife Apps not running properly, and on and on(many users that can't use Ichat, burn DVD's with IDVD, Imovie Issues and on and on). If tomorrow you purchased a 2008 Subaru Outback, and the horn, radio and transmission don't work, and Subaru tells you that "there are millions of other Subaru owners not having this problem" I don't think this is a valid response.
Like I said, I've been an avid mac user for 2 decades. I've for the first time noticed the apple fan base becoming disgruntled because of their basic Ilife Apps aren't functioning properly.
Here are some stats that I find completely unacceptable from apple whos says "they just work":
I have 4 macs: 1 G5 Dual 2 GHZ PowerPC G5, one powerbook G4, one Imac G5 Intel 24" and one Imac G5 Intel 20". I also own one Ipod shuffle, one Iphone, 2 appletv's and various other Ipod models.
Here is a breakdown of MY Apple computers, my girlfriends laptop, and 6 of my other friends various apple computers:
    • My 4 Macs: 2 of the 4 can't burn DVD's in IDVD due to a "multiplexing Error"
    • 1 of the 4's Iphoto can't publish any books
    • 3 of the 4 macs Ichat hasnt worked since Ichat AV came out(they get this error: iChat.app" to accept incoming network connections
    My friends Macs issues:
    • One friend who I talked into purchasing the new Imac 24" intel machine, the first thing I wanted to show her was video chatting via Ichat with our friend from another state. This is from a BRAND NEW just unboxed machine from apple.com. We fired it up, started Ichat, then went to start a chat with our out of state friend. Guess what? for over an hour we kept getting "The user did not respond" error when if fact the user did not respond. The I went to show her how cool Itunes was and she wanted to burn a music CD to play in the car on the way to work the next day, but alas we got this error: Error 4280 when trying to burn a cd. I think that is unacceptable from a BRAND NEW MACHINE purchased from apple.com.
    • 2 of my other friends macs that were purchased in December of 2007 for the sole purpose of web browsing, email and making DVD's with IDVD can no longer make DVD's due to the "multiplexing error" they get when they try it. Both have taken their Imacs to the Apple Store without any fixes.
I love my apple products as much as anyone, but with these types of problems happening on BRAND NEW MACHINES OUT OF THE BOX I can no longer recommend them to friends and family, if they are going to spend good money and have poor performance they might as well be running Vista....
