IPhoto by Default opens when card reader is attached?

I would like to find out how to disable iPhoto from automatically opening when ever a memory card is inserted into the reader.

Lillanne,
You can stop this by opening Image Capture in your Applications folder. Go into its Preferences under the General tab and change the: "When a camera is connected, open:" to No Application.
Hope this helped!

  • Upgraded to LR 5, but LR 4 still opens when card reader attached.

    I have unchecked the box for "Show import dialogue when memory card is attached" in LR 4 and checked it in LR 5, but LR 4 is still opending every time when I insert a card in my card reader.  Thanks for the help!

    If you are on a Mac, launch Image capture and check that no application is set to launch when a memory card is detected.
    When Lr4 launches does Lr5 launch too?
    What happens if you deselect the option in both cases, then restart the machine?
    Next I would try deletingthe preferences for one or both versions.

  • How do i stop iPhoto from automatically opening when I connect my iPhone?

    Hi, well as the title states:
    How do i stop iPhoto from automatically opening when I connect my iPhone?
    It's getting on my nerves...
    Thanks.

    This might also be helpful:
    I wrote an AppleScript that asks me each time I connect the iPhone/camera/etc whether or not I want to open iPhoto. Usually I just hit return and it doesn't open, but once in a while I'll click Yes to open iPhoto and import videos from my phone. I just did it because it's nice to have a little reminder so I don't go for too too long without importing, but not have it slow things down each time I plug in.
    Below is the script. Paste it into AppleScript Editor, then export it as an application. Then set Image Capture to open this app when you plug in your phone. Would love to hear if it's helpful for you or if you modify it to use other criteria to automatically import only at certain times or conditions.

  • IPhoto won't open when iPod is connected. iTunes does, iPhoto has stopped.

    For a while now, when I plug in my iPod 5, iPhoto has stopped opening up, and my device doesn't show up in Image Capture. This has been occurring for several months now, and I would like to import my photos now. Help?

    Check iPhoto's General preference pane to see what app is selected to open when a camera is connected:

  • IPhoto can't import when card contains movies

    Hi all,
    I have been suffering from a weird problem for a while: once in a while iPhoto refused to import images from an SD card and hung with the color wheel spinning until the next reboot. If interested, the original thread is here:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3308591?tstart=0
    I was never really able to track down the cause of this, it disappeared when the card was reformatted in the camera. Since it happened again today, I did some systematic investigations. It turned out that not only iPhoto, but also Image Capture is affected: As soon as an SD card plugged into the Mac contains a movie, things get messed up. In iPhoto, all I get is the spinning wheel.  In Image Capture, all images taken BEFORE the movie are shown as thumbnail pictures, but the movie and later images are not. Even if the card is ejected in Finder, Image Capture still shows it, but it shows no images. This continues even when the card is plugged in again and/or Image Capture is shut down and restarted. It remains until the Mac is rebooted.
    If the card contains no movies, everything is fine. All this happens regardless from what card reader I am using (I tried two different ones) and what camera the files on the card were taken with (I tried a Casio Z-1000 recording AVI movies and a Panasonic FT-3 recording MOVs). The issue also appears regardless from the size of the movie file (I took a very short one, even smaller than a usual image file).
    It only happens on my wife's Mac (2006 MacBook Pro CD 1.83 GHz, latest Snow Leopard, latest iPhoto). The problem does NOT appear at all on my 2008 MacBook (C2D 2.4 GHz, same software).
    I can still import into iPhoto when simply copying the files to hard disk and importing from there. In contrast to what I described in the thread linked above, iPhoto now recognizes already imported images.
    Any hints how to solve this are really appreciated!
    All the best,
    Thomas.
    EDIT: This reads just like this one:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/15860473#15860473
    so at least I'm not alone with this problem.

    Phil:
    Movies rotated with Quicktime Pro import into iPhoto OK. I downloaded and tried TransformMovie and it wouldn't import. It had been changed to a .mov file. There were some differences in the video portion as indicated by QT Player, mostly in video offset. But changing it to what the QT version was didn't help. When I did a Save As in QT Player the resulting file was importable. QT Pro is worth the money and more. You can do a lot of things with it.
    EURIKA! Just change the file's extension back to .avi and it will import.
    Do you Twango?
    TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
    I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • On Windows 8, when card reader is unplugged then plugged, SCARD_E_SERVICE_STOPPED occurs

    On Windows 8, the Windows service “Smart card” automatically shuts down when all smart card readers are removed. This service starts again when a card reader is connected.
    This is the core reason for the bug described at https://bugs.openjdk.java.net/browse/JDK-8026326 when a card reader is removed, then plugged again:
    javax.smartcardio.CardException: list() failed
    at sun.security.smartcardio.PCSCTerminals.list(PCSCTerminals.java:109)
    at javax.smartcardio.CardTerminals.list(CardTerminals.java:55)
    If you have a look in PCSCTerminals.java (http://www.docjar.com/html/api/sun/security/smartcardio/PCSCTerminals.java.html)
       44   // SCARDCONTEXT, currently shared between all threads/terminals
       45   private static long contextId;
    The property contextId is statically defined once during class loading for whole JVM.
       56   contextId = SCardEstablishContext(SCARD_SCOPE_USER);
    Then, the same value of contextId is used by the method list():
       80   String[] readerNames = SCardListReaders(contextId);
    But... on Windows 8, the Windows service Smard Card stops when the OS detects that no any card reader remains connected. This service start again when at least one reader is connected. After a stop and start of this service, the value of contextId becomes valid.  The list() method should call SCardEstablishContext if SCARD_E_SERVICE_STOPPED exception occurs.
    Could Oracle apply needed changes in order to solve this bug JDK-8026326 ?
    I can provide you with smart card reader if needed...
    Best regards,
    Rodolphe.

    Small correction:
    After a stop and start of this service, the value of contextId becomes invalid.

  • IPhoto always opens when the iPhone is attached even with no new pictures..

    Is there any way to prevent this from happening?

    Yes, let it import the camera roll pictures that are on the iPhone and let it "delete originals" and then let iTunes sync photos and you will have your pics but the camera roll will be available again.
    No "new" pictures does not make any difference when you have not let iPhoto delete originals when it imports the images. iPhoto will open whenever it detects images on the camera roll.

  • Prevent iPhoto '11 from opening when iPhone is connected

    I just bought the new MacBook Air 13" with Lion and iLife '11 (used to have a MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard and iLife '09).
    Back in iPhoto '09, I used to be able to prevent the app from automatically opening every time I connected my iPhone.
    In iPhoto '11, the option is no longer there... it still shows in iTunes under the iPhone summary page, but no dice for iPhoto '11.
    Any clue on how to disable this automatic iPhoto '11 opening?
    Thanks!

    Same with Lion... You can also make this choice with Image Capture (in your Applications Folder) and in the preferences to Aperture

  • IPhoto 9.5 won't recognize USB card reader.

    I loaded Mavericks this week with iPhoto 9.5. But now iPhoto will not read a card reader and gives me a message that the card reader was ejected improperly. When I force quit iPhoto and reopen, it won't open the card reader so I can import pictures. I have tried several times to get it to read the card reader. Any ideas?
    Nevermind, I found someone else's reply about Image Capture. That worked!
    Message was edited by: Chakadog1

    iPhoto 9.5 immediately tries to "upgrade" my library using the upgrader.
    iPhoto 9.5 asks you to run the upgrader to prepare the library for 9.5. It then will update the library to its format.
    You need to do the following:
    1 - go to your Applications/Utilities folder and double click on the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1 application.
    2 - select Choose Library, navigate to your iPhoto library, select it and let the upgrader do its thing.
    3 - launch iPhoto 9.5 to open and finish the conversion of the library.

  • Is there an easy way to use MOVE when importing from card reader?

    In Lightroom 1, I would hit File -> Import From Disk which would allow me to move photos from my card reader to the hard drive.
    In Lightroom 3, the only option is the normal import dialog and in order to get the "Move" option I have to select "other source" and then scroll down the list to select the card reader in order to get the "Move" option.  It's a pain to do it every time.  (not to mention my wife will never do it and just use "copy").
    So my question is, "Is there a way to get the Move option to be available by default on my card reader?"
    It's been my workflow since 2004 to have the images deleted directly after I copy them off the memory card using Adobe software (Photoshop Album 2.0, Photoshop Elements 4, Lightroom 1.0).  I'm really hoping there is an easy way to accomplish this in Lightroom 3. Otherwise I will be pretty disappointed.

    The reason I like the move command so much is that I know when photos are on my memory cards that the are not on my computer.
    LR defaults to not importing suspected duplicates.  so if there are still files on the card, they will be grayed out. That's how you can know.
    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}

    What do you all use in your work flow to delete the pictures left on your memory cards after they are copied?
    I have a shell file that removes the files from the card and ejects the disk.  I keep it in my dock for easy access.
    Others will tell yiou, though, to format in camera. Which is a good idea! I just like to keep my cards empty and ready.

  • Need iPhoto not to open w/IPhone when I plug into sync

    I am using new 3G iphone and MacBook Pro. Whenever I plug in cable to sync, iPhone opens. This happens even though I am not syncing or using photos in master settings on iTunes.
    I checked under "Applications" in iTunes, the Preferences in iPhoto and the System Prefs ... but have not found where can you deselect having iPhoto "see" the iPhone as a camera and not open upon plugging in the iPhone to my Mac.
    Thanks

    The computer is supposed to recognize the iphone as a camera. You can set iphoto not to open when a camera is connected, but it will not open automatically for any camera.
    Depending on the version of iphoto, you can set this up in image capture or in iphoto system preferences.
