IPhoto can't be opened

Late last night the Mac App Store offered an update to iPhoto 11.  I think the version offered was v9.1.4.  I clicked the Update button and it downloaded and installed with no problems.  I even used iPhoto briefly after the update.  About 15-30 minutes later the Mac App Store said there was an update to iPhoto and this time it listed the update as v9.1.5.  Knowing that I had just downloaded an update I opened iPhoto to check the version and it was 9.1.4.  So, I went ahead an downloaded the 9.1.5 update.  After it completed (no errors) I tried to launch iPhoto and it failed to open.  I get the following error message dialog:
iPhoto can't be opened.
Using App Store, download iPhoto again.
Ignore, Report...
Not seeing any way to reinstall iPhoto from the Mac App Store I moved the iPhoto app from the Applications folder to the Trash to uninstall it.  I then went back into the Mac App Store and was now given the ability to reinstall.  iPhoto was re-downloaded and reinstalled with no errors but it still continues to give the same error message.  Does anyone have any ideas how to remedy this problem?  I looked at the crash report and it looks like a problem with the Code Signature.
Here is the top snippet of the crash report.

To re-install iPhoto
1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
/var/db/receipts/
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store you can find it in your Purchases List.

I tried installing Iphoto it said it was downloaded successfully. I still get the error messafe, and can not open any photos of program,  any suggestions?

Does the message only refer to "a problem" or does it specify what it is?

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 10 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • IPhoto can not be open, can i get back my photo?

    Hi all,
My iPhoto is not woring, it can not be open , but no any message. It just can't and keeping loading for a longgg time.
What can i do? i have a lot of photo inside , and i don't wanna lost it.
Someone told me to take it back in the iPhoto Library Manager, but where is it ? i can't find it in my 'Picture' folder'
P.S I tried to open iphoto with another, it's work!
PLZZ help me to fix that! i can't live without it.
    Thanks a lot

Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download <a href="http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/"><b><u>iPhoto Library Manager</b></u></a> and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

You are way behind in iPhoto 11. Run Software Update.

  • Iphoto can not be open by different users on Machine, why? OSX Maverick

I photo is working very well for one user but is not possible to start for the other user on machine.

Have solved the problem myself. Upgrade was in the tools map, not in program.

  • Can no longer open iPhoto

    G'morning, all,
I've just installed iLife and updated all related applications. While I can access iPhoto via the media tool on iWeb, I can no longer open iPhoto by itself. I get a message that I should upgrade iPhoto (despite the fact that I have the most recent version) and that I should go to the iPhoto file menu >Library, and then ensure that I have read and write permissions. I have done all those things and I still can't access iPhoto.
    Any advice is welcome.
    Thanks,
    R

This sounds like a permissions issue. Download BatchMod from
    http://macchampion.com/arbysoft/
And apply it to the iPhoto Library Folder (at Home/Pictures) using the settings found here:

iPhoto can't find photo even though the thumbnail is present. Any help, there are dozens of photos in my library that won't open as iPhoto can't find them. This is probably a very common question!

With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a potential solution.  We need to know the details of your problem and situation, i.e.:
what version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
what do you see when you launch iPhoto to open your library?
what fixes have you tried before coming here?
    where is you library located?
how long has this been occuring?
did you apple any updates or upgrades just prior?
are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
    what type of Mac?
how much free space on your boot drive?
What do you see when you click on a thumbnail?

  • Why can't I open and retrieve my files from iPhoto and my address book after importing the files from my Power mac G5 to my new Mac Pro? I get a warning that says the new OS on my Pro doesn't open files from a Power Mac. Any idea how I can fix this?

For your addressbook, export the files to vCard on the PowerMac, then bring them over to your Mac Pro. For your iPhoto, copy the Users -> yourname -> Pictures folder to your Desktop on the Mac Pro, and open iPhoto on the Mac Pro holding the command and option keys.  Select the library file from that Pictures folder and open it.  It should import all the pictures into iPhoto as part of the rebuild process.  Other PowerPC to Intel migration issues are covered here: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2295

  • I updated iPhoto 9.1.3, and I can not 'to open iPhoto

I updated iPhoto 9.1.3, and I can not 'to open iPhoto (I said that I need to update the library) ... ... hours ... minutes pass and nothing happens.
Given that I'll '20gb photo and a short video, so I do not have a big library..., remained all night to update the database, but still nothing ... someone I can' help ..?

    Well that's an easy fix:
Restart your mac and try launch iPhoto again.
    If that fails:
Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for a file called ‘iPhoto’Lock.data or similar. Drag it to the Desktop. Make no other changes. Start iPhoto. Does that help?

  • IPhoto can't open library

After the latest update, iPhoto informs me the library can't be open and quit afterward, see image below. Advices are appreciated!

Your screenshots are showing, that you already installed Aperture 3.5 and iPhoto 9.5.  If updates are showing twice on the AppStore, you really do not need to do them twice. This can happen, if you own two licences of the same software. For example, if you bought a bundled version on CD or DVD, but also bought a copy from the AppStore on another mac, or it came preinstalled on another mac that you own. In that case you do not have to run the update again for each copy you own, once will suffice. You may want to hide the duplicate purchases from the "Purchased" tab, so that you do only have to deal with one copy.
