IPhoto can't locate photos
Why can't iPhoto can't find my pictures?
Because you did something wrong?
Maybe is you provided some actual information someone could help. Your current question is exactly likevhow high is up
What version of iPhoto and of the OS? Have you unchecked the iPhoto preference to "copy imported items to the iPhoto library?". What exactly is happening? What exact error messages are you getting? What has recently changed?

iPhoto can't find photo even though the thumbnail is present. Any help, there are dozens of photos in my library that won't open as iPhoto can't find them. This is probably a very common question!
With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a potential solution. We need to know the details of your problem and situation, i.e.:
what version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
what do you see when you launch iPhoto to open your library?
what fixes have you tried before coming here?
where is you library located?
how long has this been occuring?
did you apple any updates or upgrades just prior?
are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
what type of Mac?
how much free space on your boot drive?
What do you see when you click on a thumbnail?

How can I locate photos in PSE6 now that Bridge Home is discontinued?
How can I locate photos in PSE6 now that Bridge Home is discontinued? When dragging a photo from my Desktop to the PSE6 symbol in my Dock, PSE6 informs: "Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file". Thus I am compelled to open this file with hundreds of photos on my Desktop, and here it's imposssible to find it because the thumbnails are so tiny. Therefore much time is wasted in having to open them all one at a time in PSE6. I did not have this problem with my Photoshop 7.
Barbara,
Your persistence in trying to find a solution has turned out beneficial! It was in 2009, shortly after receiving my PSE6, that it informed me of Bridge Home now being discontinued. So that was what compelled me into the tedious procedure described in my original thread. Now, after having read your comment, I gave it a different try - I dragged a file with photos to the "BR". symbol in Dock, and to my surprise legible thumbnails opened in Bridge CS3 .
The message saying that Bridge Home has been discontinued is no longer there, so my thought is that PS must have added to the program in the meantime.
Thanks for your help. -
In iphotos, can you change photos to another event?
In iphotos, can you move photos to another event? I have a birthday party and a grandchild at the same weekend, and the photos as all mixed up.
Hi Jane
In my version of iPhoto (09) just open up iPhoto and select 'Photos' under LIBRARY on the left hand side. Get the two events in view, reduce the photo size to the minimum if needed. Just drag the photo from the wrong event to the correct one -
Can't locate photos imported from iPhone to iPhoto
I imported photos from iPhone to iPhoto. I can see the photos in iPhoto but I can't locate the actual files in Finder. Where are they? All the file names begin with "IMG_" but searching on that produces no results. Thanks.
Why do you want to locate the files via the Finder? With iPhoto you don't need to. See these user tips:
How to Access Files in iPhoto
Exporting From iPhoto
One never needs to access the original files via the Finder with iPhoto. That's old school, Windows, thinking.

Upgraded to iphoto 11. then iphoto could not find photos even though they are on my Hard Disk.
Whats up with this?
i manually located the photos one at a time. This is for 400 photos one at a time? this is crazy man.
it should simply go to " all my files" snd grab the photos it needs!
Help. This eats up too much time.it should simply go to " all my files" snd grab the photos it needs!
It does. You must have a damaged library. You say you upgraded to iPhoto 9 (11). What warning does iPhoto give you when you try to use it?
If you went inside the iPhoto Library package and moved photos around that will damage/corrupt the database that iPhoto uses.i t should simply go to " all my files" snd grab the photos it needs!
Explain what you're seeing and what steps you took to fix the problem. Then we can attempt to suggest an approach to fix the problem.

New to iPhoto - Can I store photos in Public folder?
I am new to iMac and iPhoto.
My wife and I both have user accounts.
Can I store my photo collection in my public folder, then have both user accounts use iPhoto to access the photos, or will this cause a problem?
Ideally, I would like us to share one album. But I do not know how iPhoto organizes, and do not know if this will cause a problem for two separate iPhoto programs on different user accounts (same computer) accessing the same photo library.
Before I start, is this OK? Or should we both just have a separate library on our own accounts?
Thanks,
-LeeBest advice: use two libraries in separate accounts and then use iPhoto Sharing to share the pics:
For iPhoto 09 (version 8.0.2) and later:
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account. In that account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Any user can drag a pic from the Shared Library to their own in the iPhoto Window.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.
Tha advantage to the above is that it's really safe, especially for new users. However...
If you want the other user to have the same access to the library as you: to be able to add, edit, organise, keyword etc.
Quit iPhoto in both accounts. Move the Library to the Users / Shared Folder
(You can also use an external HD set to ignore permissions, a Disk Image or even partition your Hard Disk.)
In each account in turn: Double click on the Library to open it. (You may be asked to repair the Library Permissions.) From that point on, this will be the default library location. Both accounts will have full access to the library, in fact, both accounts will 'own' it.
However, there is a catch with this system and it is a significant one. iPhoto is not a multi-user app., it does not have the code to negotiate two users simultaneously writing to the database, and trying will cause db corruption. So only one user at a time, and back up, back up back up.

IPhoto can't delete photos from iPhone 6
Hello Everybody.
I just wondered why my iPhoto can't delete the photos from my iPhone 6.
When i have imported the photos from the iPhone, i get the opportunity to delete photos from iPhone device, but when i press delete nothing happends on my iPhone, and all the photo's are still in the camera roll.
My mac and iPhone 6 is running the latest version of iOS and Yosemite.
iOS 8.1.3.
Please advice.
Best regards.
Thanks.Try restarting your Mac and the phone
Or give Image Capture (in your applications folder) a try - it can delete photos from your phone too

How do I direct iPhoto to the original library so I can see my photos again? Right now, it shows a blank library.

Iphoto can't import photos from iphone
Trying to import photos from my iPhone 4s like I do all the time and get this message: iPhoto cannot import your photos because there was a problem downloading an image.
What is the problem?OK got it working. Quit iphoto twice. Unplugged iphone, plugged back in and now it works. Sheesh!

IPhoto can't locate saved edited photos even though the thumbnails show up?
Hoping to find out what's the issue here!
After updating iPhoto '11 to 9.1.1 and upgrading my library, I edited some photos today only to discover that whilst the thumbnails were still there for these photos, whenever I clicked on them to enlarge the photo, I got a warning sign instead.
Please see the following screencaps:
The photo I already edited and select in order to enlarge...
...but all I get is this, now, for some reason?
What am I doing wrong? Please help, it's really frustrating!
Didn't have this issue before upgrading/updating, so....The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Often when I double click photos in iphoto, I get a message stating it can't find the photo. So I then have to re-locate the exact photo on my external hard drive for it to load up. This is v. annoying. Does any one have any ideas? Thanks
After an initial bout of laziness, I have searched the forums to find out how to do it, and low and behold - you gave someone else the advice I have just asked:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8767785
So will set up a managed library when I get home from work.
I guess I'll loose all of my books, albums, slide shows etc... A real pain, but better in the Long run.
Thanks, Matt -
Using iPhoto, pictures can be selected by various means, but it would be convenient to be able to locate them by entering the IMG number, when choosing from varible dates. Is this possible?
As a newcomer to Apple, I must say I prefer the simplicity of Windows - iPhoto does too much thinking for itself, and I find it often preempts my intentions, not always accurately. It takes a lot of learning! However, if you move, edit, remane or otherwise modify a photo obtained via the Spotlight search you will damage the iPhoto library. You can search for the file another way in iPhoto - by the search field at the bottom of the window:
The following is from one of Terence Devlin’s posts on file access for use outside of iPhoto. It’s the definitive treatise on the subject. There's no good reason to access the photos via the Finder or Spotligh.
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps. If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
For users of 10.6 and later: You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu.
Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and 10.5 Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
Other options include:
Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
Show File: a. On iPhoto 09 and earlier: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected. 3.b.
b: On iPhoto 11 and later: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected. -
IPhoto can't find photos restored after disk failure
Recently imported some old photos that were stored on my NAS.
Last week, the NAS failed and I have now installed new disks and restored a backup.
In iPhoto, my recent photos are there but the ones I imported only have the thumbnail and when I attempt to open them I get the error that it can't find the file.
All I want to know is where does iPhoto "think" these files are so I can make sure the originals are in that location. I can't seem to find the anywhere, the information about where iPhoto is looking for them...Best to start with a new library and this time use a managed library - if you use a referenced library sooner or later you will have the same problem again
Another alternative is to purchase Aperture and use it to reconnect the referenced photos - Aperture handles referenced library jsut fine and it can share the iPhoto library - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5260?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

IPhoto can't import photos from DSLR.
I have a Canon EOS 1000D.
I tried to import the photos on it. It said : "Import complete. Delete originals/Keep Originals."
After selecting one of those, it has a message saying: "Unreadable files : 748." "The files could not be imported because it's data is not valid and it lists down all my photo names.
So I went to iPhoto library under Pictures. iPhoto Library>Originals>Paramount Championship.
Paramount championship is what I named it for the events.
So I have to copy it to my desktop (Since iPhoto cannot import photos from it's library.)
And copy it back to iPhoto.
Any solutions?
Thanks in advance.Given that you're having an issue with your Camera and your phone, try - as a test - create a new Library:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
and see if they will import to that new blank library okay. If they do:
Revert to your Old Library:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
and then
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the apple and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto.
