Iphoto can't read camera card

memory card from my camera can't be read in other words i can't download my pictures onto my macbook pro

Keith,
Thanks for your reply. After going to their website http://www.vupointsolutions.com (which I didn't find earlier because Google searches inundate you with sellers rather than OEM links), I found some more clues. The FAQ for this particular camera states no drivers are needed for Windows XP and 2000. This is typically true for standard USB devices like memory card readers and hard drives and those usually also work on a Mac so I'm getting more confident that it will work.
But, there was another odd entry in the FAQ that kind of turns me off. It states that its normal for the camera to drain the batteries dead even when its not being used. It has internal SDRAM to keep alive. If the batteries die, you lose any photos stored in the internal memory and they recommend using an SD card.
For a few dollars more (approx $112), I'm leaning towards the Nikon Coolpix L10 or Canon A460. I can use it myself when I don't want to lug the Canon Digital Rebel around.

What Mac OS are you running (from "About this Mac" in your Apple menu).
Codecs are usually required for viewing videos and should not affect whether the USB drive mounts. Can you tell us what kind of file your are trying to run from the USB drive? The pre-2006 iMacs this forum covers are no longer supported by most modern codecs

  • Not reading camera card

I put my camera card in my macbook and it isn't even showing up on the desktop.  My friend with me has the same computer and hers opened it and registered it right away.

Remove it and reinsert it is what I do and it will usually pop up. If not go into disk utility and see if anything pops up and whether you can mount it or not.

  • Iphoto can't read scanned photos

New mac user. trying to create a slideshow and add a few songs. first I can't seem to see scanned images in iphoto. I copied the scanned images to the library but the photos do not show up. When I try to copy them I get an error message that the files can' be read /Users/qfamily1/Pictures/iPhoto Library/First date.jpg is the format.
Second, What is the easiest way to create a slideshow? I am trying to put one together with background music. I did figure out how to create one with the default settings but it seems to only want to let me pay one sone during the show and loop it. any suggestions?

    thehumann:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. What system version are you running?
The quickest and easiest way to create a slideshow is to build it entirely within iDVD. IMO this gives you the best image quality when played on a TV set and allows you to add titles/subtitles to selected slides. The downside if your a fan of the Ken Burns effect is no KB effect.
In iPhoto put the photos in an album and in the order your want. Open iDVD, select your theme and click on the "+" button at the bottom to create a slideshow. Double click on the slideshow to get into the slideshow itself. There, go to the Media/Photos pane, select the album and drag it to the window on the left. That's it. You can select your transition, iTunes playlist containing your preselected songs.
When you have the iDVD project as you'd like it, use the File->Save as Disk Image menu option to create a disk image. Now you can open that disk image and play it with DVD Player to "proof" the project before committing to disk. When you're satisfied with the project burn it with Disk Utility using the slowest speed possible, 2X if possible. That will ensure the best burn and most compatibility with the many set top DVD players out there.
You might notice a slight pause at slide 99 and 198 (if you have that many) as the DVD standard only allows 99 chapters (each slide is a chapter) and iDVD starts the numbering over a 1 at those points. If you use quality DVDs and burn at the slowest speed that pause will not be that noticeable. But with poorer media and faster burn speeds some players will stall at #99.
Also I like to put a blank slide at the beginning and end of the slideshow for a better entry and finish.
    Good luck.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Iphoto can't read my files

    Hi:
A friend transferred photos from a zip file to my computer. I can open them and see them, but I can't transfer them to iPhoto. I get an error message "unreadable files--may be unrecognized file typr or may not contain valid data"
Help. Can I convert files so my Mac can read them?

Hi, Emma. If your files are any kind of digital image file known to man or woman, GraphicConverter — the Swiss Army Knife of image-processing applications — will probably open them and enable you to re-save them in a format that iPhoto can handle. If GraphicConverter can't open them, they are almost certainly corrupt.
GraphicConverter is one of the world's truly outstanding software values, providing Photoshop power at a lunch-money price.

My MacBook Pro can't read the SDHC cards. What should I do???
    Please help me.....

    Hi
Can you notice yellow exclamation mark in device manager?
Normally the Satellite L40 can read SDHC cards up to 8GB so my question is have you tried different brands of SDHC cards?
I have good experience with Kingston and SanDisk cards.
Furthermore you should check the Toshiba website for an update of the card reader:

Last but not least have you installed all Service Packs and Updates for Windows?

  • IPhoto can't read disk

    Hi,
I'm using iPhoto '08 7.1.3 with a Sony DSC-H2 digital camera and a Digital Concepts MemoryStick card reader.
All was working fine until my imac wouldn't recognize my memorystick (received message that the "disk you inserted was not readable by this computer"). When i was in iPhoto it wouldn't register at all, i only was even able to get that message by pulling the memorystick out of the card reader and reinserting it.
after some experimenting, i got it to work by plugging the memorystick card reader directly into the port at the back of the imac instead of using a cable to connect the memorystick card reader to the imac. no problems for several months.
today, i received the same message. i could see the pictures just fine on my camera. finally i put the memorystick back in the camera and hten used the cable to connect the camera directly to the imac (therfore not using the card reader at all), and was able to import the pictures that way.
do you have any ideas what is causing this problem? if my card is "going bad" then why can i use it in my camera? could it be the card reader? i am out of ideas for future fixes and now feel it is going to not work in the future. i am happy to buy new card reader or memory stick but don't want to waste money either if it is something in the iphoto software someone may be familiar with.
    thanks!
    Jen

My best guess is the card reader from what you have described
Once you import the photos you may want to try using the camera to format your MS just to be sure that it is not a MS format problem
BTW - I just found a SanDisk Memory Stick USB reader at Radio Shack for $9.95 - small, compact (fits in my spare battery pocket with my spare batteries in my Sony Camera bag

  • IPhoto can't import when card contains movies

    Hi all,
I have been suffering from a weird problem for a while: once in a while iPhoto refused to import images from an SD card and hung with the color wheel spinning until the next reboot. If interested, the original thread is here:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3308591?tstart=0
I was never really able to track down the cause of this, it disappeared when the card was reformatted in the camera. Since it happened again today, I did some systematic investigations. It turned out that not only iPhoto, but also Image Capture is affected: As soon as an SD card plugged into the Mac contains a movie, things get messed up. In iPhoto, all I get is the spinning wheel.  In Image Capture, all images taken BEFORE the movie are shown as thumbnail pictures, but the movie and later images are not. Even if the card is ejected in Finder, Image Capture still shows it, but it shows no images. This continues even when the card is plugged in again and/or Image Capture is shut down and restarted. It remains until the Mac is rebooted.
If the card contains no movies, everything is fine. All this happens regardless from what card reader I am using (I tried two different ones) and what camera the files on the card were taken with (I tried a Casio Z-1000 recording AVI movies and a Panasonic FT-3 recording MOVs). The issue also appears regardless from the size of the movie file (I took a very short one, even smaller than a usual image file).
It only happens on my wife's Mac (2006 MacBook Pro CD 1.83 GHz, latest Snow Leopard, latest iPhoto). The problem does NOT appear at all on my 2008 MacBook (C2D 2.4 GHz, same software).
I can still import into iPhoto when simply copying the files to hard disk and importing from there. In contrast to what I described in the thread linked above, iPhoto now recognizes already imported images.
Any hints how to solve this are really appreciated!
    All the best,
    Thomas.
EDIT: This reads just like this one:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/15860473#15860473
so at least I'm not alone with this problem.

    Phil:
Movies rotated with Quicktime Pro import into iPhoto OK. I downloaded and tried TransformMovie and it wouldn't import. It had been changed to a .mov file. There were some differences in the video portion as indicated by QT Player, mostly in video offset. But changing it to what the QT version was didn't help. When I did a Save As in QT Player the resulting file was importable. QT Pro is worth the money and more. You can do a lot of things with it.
EURIKA! Just change the file's extension back to .avi and it will import.
    Do you Twango?

  • Can't read CF card reader

My iMac won't read my CF Card Reader.  Help!!

    Hi DDK,
Can you be a little specific on how you are connecting a CF card reader to your iMac? Are you connecting straight to your camera, or through an external device?
If you are connected to your camera, check to see if the camera is switched ON.
My immediate suggestion, without knowing further information, is to remove the cord from the USB slot on your iMAC and re-connect.

  • OS X can't read SD card/kernel panic, windows XP or Vista

I'm using my friend's camera. It comes with an SD card. I tried to upload the photos to my macbook but every time i hook it up, i instantaneously get a kernel panic. On my brother's macbook, nothing happens. Literally nothing. He doesn't get a kernel panic, but it doesn't even mount.
On my dad's laptop, which is a PC, everything's ok. It shows up without problems.
    What gives??

I don't have the camera with me right now but first of all, I really doubt manufacturers of cameras also make the SD disks. Second of all, and I'm less sure about this, this seems to be a problem with my laptop and OS X, not the disk itself.

If you're talking about the native BPAV files, you need Sony software (like XDCAM Browser) to convert to XDCAM .mov before importing to FCP X.

  • Can't read cift card numbers

the numbers are illegible.  How can it be redeemed?

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Where, exactly, did you format the card? If it was not in the BB, then you must do so in the BB...the format within the BB not only formats the card but also creates the necessary directory structure for the storage of various things, and that structure is needed in order for the card to be properly used in the BB.

  • Can't open iPhoto (can't read/write)

    Hi all,
I had a hard drive meltdown on Sunday and the drive had to be replaced. iPhoto 7.1.2 was installed on my machine at that time (I've been using iPhoto for, oh, at least three years now) and then I got on a plane to Israel which is where I am for the next 2 months (no Apple stores in the whole country!)
I can't open iPhoto. When I click on the icon, nothing happens. I went to iPhoto info (by opening up Applications in the three-tiered view and clicking on "more info") and I see that the setting is set as: "Ownership and Permissions" and then "you can: [read/write]" is greyed-out.
More details: beneath that, it says: "Owner: [system]" (the name "system" is also greyed-out) and there's a little padlock icon next to that.
Can anyone here help me figure out how to get iPhoto to launch? The file is 174.2 MB, so clearly the program exists on my machine; I just can't get it to open. Thanks!
