IPhoto cannot open with Yosemite

Hi guys!
I have updated my MacBook Pro on Yosemite and iPhoto cannot open. It asked for an update from Apple store, which I did. Now there are 2 icon apps of iPhoto, and none opens. I moved to trash the old one, but still the new did not respond at all.
Any advice?

I had problems with iPhoto but after cleaning out my mac with 'Clean my Mac'
I'm not surprised.  As Larry has already pointed CYM and others like it do more damage than good and are considered malware around here.  Uninstall CYM according to the developer's directions:  How to Uninstall CleanMyMac Classic ... - MacPaw.
To verify that you've removed all of the files download and run Find Any File to search for any files with "the application's' name"  and the "developer's name" in the file name.  For example for CleanMyMac you'd do two searches:
1 - Name contains "cleanmymac"
2 - Name contains "macpaw"
Any files that are found can be dragged from the search results window to the Desktop for deletion.
FAF can search areas that Spotlight can't like invisible folders, system folders and packages.
When you're done run  Disk Utility and repair disk permissions and try iPhoto again.

    What version of iPhoto?
If it's 09 or later try
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Keep getting error code 2048 when trying to open wmv files, says realplayer cannot open with the installed version of Quicktime, any suggestions?

Keep getting error code 2048 when trying to open wmv files, says realplayer cannot open with the installed version of Quicktime, any suggestions?

wmv is a Windows Media format.  I don't know why Realplayer is coming into it since that deals primarily with Real format files and maybe a few generic formats.
    You need
    Free Flip4mac QuickTime player components - http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx
After installation a new Flip4Mac pane will appear in System Preferences.  Make sure you set the boxes to ensure that it will play WMV files in Quicktime.
or play the files with VLC
VLC media player - http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ - general media player that plays just about anything.
While you're at it you might install:
Perian codecs for Quicktime - http://www.perian.org - plugins to add functionality to Quicktime for playing additional audio and video formats
Quicktime audio problems, Perian, VLC - http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=9013669 - read note about uninstalling prior DIVX support before installing Perian.
Perian doen't do WMV but it's handy to get many things to play in Quicktime.
Note, if these are protected WMV, nothing on a Mac will play those (unless you also have Windows installed).

  • How do I get iPhoto to work with Yosemite

Since I installed Yosemite operating system iPhoto will not work. It will not let me download and save photos. It keeps spinning. It is not compatible with Yosemite how can I change fix this issue

With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a solution.  We can't see your computer so we need to know the details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
what version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
what do you see in the iPhoto window when iPhoto opens?
where are you trying to download from?
    what fixes have you tried?
    where is your library located?
did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring?
are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
    what type of Mac?
how much free space on your boot drive?

  • Iphoto cannot open archive

I am running iphoto 5.0.4 (which I think is the newest version) on OS 10.3.9 (Powerbook 1.5Ghz).
When I try to start iphoto, I get a (German, so this is a rough translation) warning:
YOU CANNOT OPEN YOUR CURRENT ARCHIVE WITH THIS VERSION OF IPHOTO.
YOU HAVE CHANGED YOUR ARCHIVE WITH A NEWER VERSION OF IPHOTO. PLEASE STOP THE PROGRAM AND USE THE LATEST VERSION OF IPHOTO.
    which I think I do.
    any idea?

    Oliver:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Did you have any unusual occurrence with your Mac just before this happened or did you perform any software updates of any kind just before? Other have gotten this message for no apparent good reason also. Right now all I can suggest is that, after making a backup copy of the iPhoto Library folder as a precaution, launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. I'm hoping it will go into the rebuild mode before it gets to the place in the launch where it will give you that message. Right now I don't know if that is possible.
I think the only option that needs to be selected is the rebuild database one. Good luck.

  • IPhoto not opening after Yosemite upgrade

After upgrading to Yosemite, iPhoto now will not load.  It says: "In order to open “iPhoto.app”, you need to update to the latest version." However, when I try to bring up the app store and upgrade to the newest version of iPhoto, it will not let me. The button that would typically allow me to download the new version only says "open."  And clicking on that button doesn't do anything - literally, I click it and nothing happens.  I am using OS X 10.10.1 and it appears as though the iPhoto app (according to what is listed in the Applications folder, I cannot open the program to see if it correlates) version is 9.4.3.  Thanks in advance for your help.

  • IPhoto cannot open

On our laptop, we are running 10.6.8 and whenever I try to open iPhoto, I get the message, "You can't open your current photo library. You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto."
I believe this happened when we backed up our laptop photos and opened them on our desktop to make sure the backup worked.
How can I get iPhoto to open again so that we can upload photos and edit them again? Thanks in advance.

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • I cannot open Firefox as I get the message that Firefox failed to read configuration file. I uninstalled and reinstalled latest version and still cannot open with the same error.

Last week when the automated upgrade came I said yes and then stopped it midway as it was not a good time to reboot my laptop. Since then, when I try to open it says cannot read configuration file - even when I uninstall and reinstall - still cannot open it with the same error.

    Do a clean (re-)install:
    * Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 4.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
    * Do not remove personal data if you uninstall the current version.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere (not in the Firefox program folder) and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • Reinstalled iPhoto cannot open library

I re-installed iPhoto 11 after being told it was part damaged but now I cannot open any of my existing libraries.

Rather vague on details. Any error messages? How did you reinstall? From the App Store? From Disk? I note that the only equipment you mention is an iPad. Is this iPhoto for Mac you're taling about?

  • How do I stop iPhoto from opening with an iPhone?

I tried to do this on Yosemite but these steps don't work. Is this a bug?
    Step 1: Open iPhoto.
Step 2: In the Menu bar, go to iPhoto > Preferences…
Step 3: For the “Connecting camera opens” option, make sure to select “No application.”
Step 4: Close the Preferences window.
I want to have iPhoto not open every time I plug in my iPhone 6.

Image capture is a different application for "capturing images" - it is located in your applications folder - connect your phone and launh it and make this change while the phone is connected

  • FLV(F4V): Specific f4v file cannot open with Firefox

    Hi all,
I have a flv movie garelly kind of thing on my website, works all fine on IE v11 and Chrome v32.
However, there is one specific f4v file cannot open on Firefox v26.
Getting error says  [HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found 315ms].
There were no problem with about one year earlier version of Firefox, on Win7 x64, now I'm on Win8.1 x64.
Anyone have any idea about this?
    Any help will be appreciated.

Seems that after upgrading to 11.10, jnlp files open with firefox instead of javaws (Java Web Start).
If you right click the file on the download folder and choose "open with" you can manually select java web start.
    Ubuntu bug...
You can right click any .jnlp file and select "properties", go to "Open With" tab, mark Sun Java 6 Web Start and click "Set as Default". Should fix it. I don't know what would happen if you have the default ubuntu java instead of Sun's. Maybe this wouldn't be necessary.

  • Cannot 'open with' Lightroom

I'm using XP Pro and have a number of RAW files that are not in a Lightroom Catalogue.
I normally go straight to the file folder right click the mouse and open the RAW file by using the 'open with' command.
This does not seem to work with Lightroom, even if I try to 'choose' another program.
Am I right in thinking any photo I want to open with Lightroom must be imported into a catalogue first, or is there a way around this?
    Regards,
    Steve

    Thanks guys for your replies,
    as I suspected!
For the record, it is the 'develop' features for which I really wanted Lightroom. As a former Rawshooter Pro user I prefer these to alternatives in other software packages.
In general, I'd rather control my Libaries myself, which is why I do not use the facilities in Bridge or Elements. Glancing through this forum, many of the queries relate to what you can and cannot do by way of importing, exporting and deleting files and photos. All too constricting, in my view, if you are a long time Windows user.
I guess I shall cut and paste my files into their destination folders directly from the CF 'drive' and then import them to Lightroom for processing.
    Thanks again for the clarification,
    Steve.

  • Cannot "Open With.." in Photoshop Elements 10

I've upgraded from PE9 to PE10 and then uninstalled PE9. When using PE9 (and PE8 before it) I could right click on a photo and select "Open with - Photoshop Elements 9". Since upgrading to PE10 I am unable to do this i.e 'Photoshop Elements 10' does not appear in the "Open With.." list. I am using Win7 64Bit.

This is what I found. The basic problem is that Photoshop Elements 10 is not properly registering itself when it installs. I upgraded from v9 to v10 so that may have something to do with it. If you do what the solution suggests then it will set up the registry entries so that “Open With..” will include PE10. However if you have an automatic registry cleaning program (I have System Mechanic) then it will soon delete those registry entries as the program referenced (i.e PE10) is not registered. Having discovered this I then set System Mechanic to ignore the appropriate registry entries and thus it does not delete them. “Open With… PE10” has since worked fine.
