  • Sony NEW RX10 & iPhoto Cant open RAW files

Hey Guys, I know that not ALL RAW files are equal! I just picked up a NEW SONY RX10 and its shooting RAW files in Sony's ARW format.. I see that the NEW a7's are updated in OSX updates, Im assuming that the a7's and the New RX10 are the same ARW format, but I cant open these files in Preview and Iphoto wont see them either! Im using OSX 10.8.5 (ML) and Iphoto 11 (9.4.3) (720.91) Is anyone else having this issue with a RX10 or newer Sony camera with ARW files... Please reply! I really would like to shoot in RAW and use iPhoto to edit! I guess not ALL SONY .ARW are equal????

Im assuming that the a7's and the New RX10 are the same ARW format,
There you go - that is an incorrect assumption (as most assumptions are - as you know when you assume you make an ***ume out of ***ume & assume) - every RAW format for every camera is different and requires specific support for tha tcamera - notice in the support list that many different cameras in the same family are listed seperatly
Usually Apple releases Sony RAW support pretty quickly since Sony is a major manfactuer of consumer and professional cameras
Tell Apple - iPhoto menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback
The Sony software that came with the camera may help (although my experiance is that Sony has poor to non-existance support for Macs) and possible the Adobe RAW converter can help until Apple releases the required update
And it is very possible that the update will only apply to Mavericks and iPhoto 9.5.x so it is possible that you will have to upgrade your OS and iPhoto (both free) - when you do be sure to backup first
The current Mavericks list is at http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5955

  • Cant open Iphoto, Cant open Iphoto

Your photo library is either in use by another application or has become unreadable, this is the message I get when I open my Iphoto, does anyone know what happen? Thanks

What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Video files in Iphoto cant open

My video files in iphoto can't be open. And when i checked it in my iphoto library it was change to MVI_Jpeg. How do i resolve this issue as i did not change anything. It was working fine and all of a sudden it appears in Jpeg.

There is no native support of iPhoto video files in Front Row at this time. You need to either add them to iTunes or your Movies folder.
You can add them to iTunes by turning off copying in iTunes and dragging the videos into iTunes.

How old is your Mac? If it's very recent you need to update via the App Store
If you purchased at the App Store you need to update via the App Store
Otherwise you update via Softare Update
If you have moved iPhoto from the default location (i.e. into a Folder) then the updater won't find it. Move it back.
If you have renamed iPhoto, the updater won't find it. Change it back.

Apple keeps books for a short time (used to be 40 days. I've not seen a recent time frame)
    What version did you have?
Books do nor exist except in the iPhoto database so you can not "find" a book vista TM. You restore a previous library (be sure NOT to overwrite your current library) and switch to it

  • I cant open my current photo library using this version of iphoto 09

This is the error I get when I click on upgrade after I installed Iphoto 09
"You cant open your current photo library using this version of iphots, You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto.
Someone please help... I have a lot of photos and now I cant access them!!!
Someone said to open the application while holding down command + option and select the last option, but that did not work.

Try downloading the latest version of iPhoto Library Manager and rebuilding. It create a new copy of the library which drops stuff like slideshows but if you can't get it to work I would try iphoto library manger.

  • My iphoto wont open since i updated my mac, please help? it says i need to install an iphoto library upgrader which I have installed but still cant see my photos.

my iphoto wont open since i updated my mac, please help? it says i need to install an iphoto library upgrader which I have installed but still cant see my photos.

What version of iPhoto are you using? 9.6 is the current version.
    Do a backup.
    Quit the application.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.iPhoto.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Restart, open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.
Thanks to leonie for some information contained in this.

  • I have iphoto 9.6 and i cant open my iphoto library. I got this message

Your photo library is either in use by another application or has become unreadable :
Shut down and restart your computer, and then open iPhoto again. If the problem persists, try rebuilding your photo library. To do this, quit iPhoto, and then reopen it while keeping the Option and Command keys pressed. You can also try restoring your photo library from a backup.
i cant open my iphoto to check what option to pick.
the options i have are :
repair permissions: Examines your library for permission problems and repairs them. This requires Administrator access.
rebuild thumbnails: Regenerates the thumbnail files from the original images. This should be used when photos are not being displayed correctly in the photo grid.
repair database: Checks for inconsistencies in your library and repairs them. Adds photos that are stored in the library but missing from the database.
rebuild database:Examines and rebuilds your library. This should be used only when the above options do not address library problems.
it also needs me to upgrade my photo library.(which i cant do because of the message)
    What should i do .

Backup your iPhoto library and Follow the suggestions in order
1 - Shut down and restart your computer,
2 - and (if #1 does not fix it) then open iPhoto again. If the problem persists, try rebuilding your photo library. --  which is clearly option 4 -
rebuild database:Examines and rebuilds your library. This should be used only when the above options do not address library problems.

  • Upgraded to Yosemite and cant open iPhoto!  Saw an update for app but it won't let me; says not available for this AppleID because it was bought by a diff user or item was refunded.   Not so. What now?

UPgraded to Yosemite and now I cant open iPhoto.  App says it needs to be updated but yet I cant udate cause it says update not available for this ID cause it was bought by another user (I only have 1 Apple Id) or item was refunded or cancelled.  ANY IDEAS?  Thnx!

Perform the following, stopping with the first one which works:
    1. Open the Mac App Store's Purchases tab. If you're prompted to accept it and the other iLife/iWork applications into your Apple ID, do so.
    2. Move them out of the Applications folder(they may need to be put into the Trash temporarily), and then see if you can download them for free from their individual product pages. If you're asked to buy them, see #3.
    3. Click here, contact Apple, and wait for a response.
    4. Buy them.

  • I cant open iphoto as it say it may be damaged or incomplete, what do i do?

how do i fix my iphoto i cant open it as it says it maybe damaged or incomplete.

    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store you can find it in your Purchases List.
