IPhoto changes templates

When trying to create a photobook in iPhoto 08, I have a problem with automatically changing themes. When I try to create a page with six pictures for example sometimes the page puts the large picture on the right side, sometimes on the left side. I am really confused and cant find a way to influence it.
Best greetings and thank you very much

Jeanpuiz07:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. What theme are you using when trying to apply the 6 photo layout?
Just determined it was the Picture Book theme. And I found that depending on what order you add photos to it and which are portrait oriented the larger portrait frame can be either at the left of right of the page. There's no exact formula that I've been able to determine as to how to add the photos to get the larger portrait frame on one side or the other. I just had to do some moving around of the photos putting the one portrait image in different frames before I could get it to move to the right.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Changing template to previously created pages

I couldn't find a way to apply a different template to a page that I created previously. Am I missing something?

Well, as iWeb behaves just as the other iApps do and template changes are permissible in those apps, I think it only reasonable that it be an option within iWeb. I am not pulling out my hair here or anything (web designer myself), but after installing iLife and finding that the only 1-click way (sans file export, copy to iDisk, import to Homepage, etc.) to publish my personal photos from within iPhoto is via iWeb, the fact that I can now not change templates on the fly as I was able to do in Homepage is quite disappointing.
While I understand the technical difficulties inherent in such a feature, it would be possible given that user modifications are not specifically outside of the theme. If, for instance, I inserted a bright neon button shape - it would be handy if iWeb said, "Hey! You can totally do this but be warned that if you do, this button is outside your current template spec and therefore future template changes will not apply to this object". I can dream...

When they un-upgrade iPhoto email templates? Along with Apple Maps, another software I won't use anymore.

You can go back by restoreing your backup of the iPhoto library from the previous version a installing the previous version for its original source
Of course I use iPhoto - and I have not idea what
Do you use iPhoto? What version are you using and have you sent photos using it from the iPhoto and used the older templates?
    means
one last time if you want help you have to start by being percise and shaing information - for example "older version" is of no help since there are 40 or 50 older versions
    again
Sorry but if you have a question then you need to provide information  - what are you talking about? What version of iPhoto and what OS version do you have? What upgrade are you talking about? what e-mail client are you using?

  • IPhoto changes my dpi while editing - what to do?

    Hello!
I have iPhoto 6 and have taken over 500 pictures for a wedding. Now they want to print bigger photos (A4) from my photos. All of a sudden we notice that all of the photos that I have taken with my Nikon D70, that are vertical have the dpi 70 instead of 300 needed for good quality print. Some of these pictures I have cropped but not all. I also have not turned all of them around. Most of them where taken the "right way" already with my camera. What I have done is that I have edited the colour or exposure in iPhoto. So why has iPhoto changed the dpi and why does it not ever notify me about this? Is there some way in how to prevent this from happening? Or change the dpi later in iPhoto? I can't possibly start re-editing each vertical photo in Photoshop, that is absurd! How can I prevent this from happening again?
    Thank you for your help!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. The resolution has not been changed. It's the pixel dimension of the image that is the more important factor. If you take a 1600 x 1200 image at 72 dpi it will give you a 22" x 16.6" print. But if you take that same file and print at 300 dpi you'll get a 5.3 x 4" print.
iPhoto just reports the resolution at 72 dpi which, if printed at that resolution would give you a very large print. If you select a print size iPhoto will squeeze the available pixels into those dimensions. The smaller the print size the larger the resolution will be.
In rotating the files a new jpg file is created and when it's saved there will be some jpg compression applied. The original file is left intact and can be recovered by selecting the photo and using the Photo->Revert to Original menu option.
The bottom line is: as long as the number of pixels do not change (or by very much) the inherent resolution of the file is not changed.

  • IPhoto changes the original creation date to 12/31/1969

Hi folks, this is a problem I have been trying to resolve for a very long time.
I have a large collection of pictures that I took with a Palm Zire 71 and Zire 72 going back to 2003. Every time I import the files with iPhoto (File > Import to Library), iPhoto changes the original creation dates of the jpgs to 12/31/1969. I have tried many different things... most recently I burned the files to a CD, confirmed that the original creation dates were still in tact, and tried importing with iPhoto right from the CD. I got the same result... all photos with the date 12/31/1969. All photos completely disorganized because of Palm's less than great file naming structure. I need to keep the creation dates intact for the iPhoto books I want to make with them, so changing the file names won't work as a solution. Even changing the files names to the creation dates plus a counter would be very difficult because it is over 1500 pictures. Does anyone else know of this problem and perhaps have a solution for it? Thanks!

Thank you for the suggestion TD. But the Batch doesn't help in this case because so many of the photos were created on different days. I would still have to manually go into each of the creation dates and change them back to the original.
That's just not feasible for 1500 files. iPhoto shouldn't be stripping the files of the creation dates at import to begin with. I'm hoping to find a way to get the import process to work properly for these files. The weird thing is that iPhoto doesn't seem to do this to files create on a more typical point and shoot camera,
but only on these Palm files.

Using pages; How do you save work in  a template without changing template?

When you open a template it is a copy of the template you get. You can write, add, delete or change what ever you like. It will not change anything in the template. When you save you have a document, not the template.

Did anyone find a good way to sort the shared albums better, so that the ones you share with can better find their way around.
You can arrange them manually in an album, select all and use the Photos ➙ Batch Change ➙ Date to menu option and check the box to add a set interval between photos. That will let the photos be sorted by date and be in the order you want:

  • How do I change template designs once a form has been created using another template design?

How do I change template designs once a form has been created using another template design?

I talked to a service Representative and he told me there isn't a function to change a form using one template to a different template. For example, I used template for "Accommodation registration" and wanted to change it to "admissions application." I was hoping I could just select a "Change template" rather than having to copy/paste everything to the new template. But that's what i had to do. Maybe the next version of this software will make it easier to change design templates.

  • IPhoto changes slideshow when exported

I am having significant problems with iPhoto changing the slideshow when I export it to iDVD or even Quicktime. This is so frustrating! All I can attribute this to, is one of the updates. I have used this to do DVD's for weddings, graduations, birthdays, anniversaries, etc. with no problem, then somewhere along the line, it began changing the timing. All my hard work to synchronize the exact picture with the music - GONE!
Please help, as I have lots of these to do on a tight turnaround time. I adore my Mac & really need for this to work like it used to!
    Power Mac G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    The audio syncing has been a problem with iPhoto 6 for a while now. There is a couple of ways you can do what you want;
1 - create the slideshow in iPhoto without music and share to iDVD.
2 - when the import into iDVD is complete, close iDVD without saving and look for your movie in the Movies folder. This produces the larger size movie than just exporting to Quicktime does.
3 - open the movie in iMovie and add your tracks. You have considerably more control in fade ins and outs, cutting out the dead time at the end of a track, etc.
4 - save the iMovie project.
5 - open iDVD, select your theme.
6 - drag the iMovie project file into the iDVD menu window, avoiding any drop zones. This avoids additional encoding by iMovie so the only encoding done is by iDVD when you go to save as a disk image or burn directly to disk.
Are you using the KB effect in your slideshow? If not, you can get, IMO, better image quality slideshows by creating the show entirely in iDVD from the imported stills. By selecting the option to scale photos to the TV Safe Area you won't lose any of the picture to the TV overscan phenomenon that affects all QT files used in iDVD. This method also allows you to add titles/sub titles to selected slides or add a text slide as a title. The scale to audio in iDVD is very precise.

  • Does iPhoto change a RAW file upon import or export?

Hi! New Mac user here. Trying to get my workflows and backups going.
I created an iPhoto library from multiple sources: migration from PC, folders from backup HD, new photos from iPhone and camera memory card.
So I have one consolidated library that is almost 300Gb but I want to go through and remove and archive many of these, leaving only a much smaller working library with the archive copies of some originals stored somewhere else.  These archive copies will not be referenced files, my plan is to export them from iPhoto, back them up to an external HD, and then delete them from the iPhoto library. If I ever decided to look at them again, I would import them from the archive HD.
Ideally, I should have imported all the files to my iMac desktop and then imported only what I wanted into iPhoto, but because everything is now consolidated (and the photos from the iPhone and camera memory card are erased), I don't want to wipe out my iPhoto library and start over. So I'm starting with this huge managed library and want to export a good part of it to what I will call "the archive" to cull it down.
My questions: Upon import, did iPhoto change the RAW master files, or will those be the same when I export them (assuming I made no edits)? Did iPhoto change the JPEGs or will those also be the same when I export them?
How do I export the files I want to save to the archive before deleting them from the iPhoto library?
Alternatively, I think I will use Aperture going forward for editing.  Should I use that instead for trying to export these files?
Thank you for any assistance you can provide.
    LCA
iMac 4 GB, 2.7 GHz, Intel Core i5
    OS X 10.7.4
    iPhoto 9.3.1
    Aperture 3.3.1

File -> Export and in the resulting dialogue set the Kind to Original
That will export a byte by byte copy of the file you imported, unchanged in any way.
Can I suggest another way of working. Why not have two Libraries? An archive and a working one?
The principle advantage is that you won't have to import pics to review them again later, just open the other library.
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
Now you have two full versions of the Library.
    3. On the Internal library, trash the Events you don't want there
Now you have a full copy of the Library on the External and a smaller subset on the Internal
    Some Notes:
As a general rule: when deleting photos do them in batches of about 100 at a time. iPhoto can baulk at trashing large numbers at one go.
You can choose which Library to open: Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
You can keep the Library on the external updated with new imports using iPhoto Library Manager

  • Want to change template for an application

I made my first test application on oracle's provided platform.
I chose the template with No tabs. Now I realize I need the tabs. I dont find a way to change the template assigned to an application.
Is it really allowed or not ??
    regards,
    raghav..

    Raghav,
If you just want to change template for that particular page, go to edit page and in the Display Attributes select the template that you want, by default its Application level default. For changing the application default template go to Home>Application Builder>Application #>Shared Components>Themes>Create/Edit Theme and there you can change the default values.
    Thanks,

  • Dynamicly change templates

    Hi all,
Two questions! hope both wil be answered.
    1)
Does someone know if it's possible to change template based on what system is calling the application.
I have to build a desktop and a Handheld application.
When the app is called using an IE shortcut I want to use template X ( horizontal look).
When the app is called using our vpnportal I want to use template Y( vertical look)
    2)
Is it possible to send a request in the IE shortcut when starting the app?
    Hugo

    Hello,
You can't change the page template, but you can change its CSS, making it fit to the media you are using. You can read more about it in here - http://www.w3schools.com/css/css_mediatypes.asp
The answer to your second question is also positive. You can use the f?p syntax. Read more about that in here - http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B31036_01/doc/appdev.22/b28550/concept.htm#BEIFCDGF
    Hope this helps,

  • Changing template after page has been created

    Hey,
Does anyone if this can be done?
I created three pages as Welcome, Casting and Contact Us and I want to merge those pages under a different template so is it possible without having to totally re-create the website?
    Later,
    Chris

Sorry, you can't change templates under a page that is already created.
My advice would be to add three new pages -- Welcome, Casting and Contact Us -- using the new templates you want, then copy and paste your text from the original three pages before deleting them.
Of course, you still may need to change the typeface to match the typeface on the new template. But who knows, maybe the old typeface on the new template may look fine. Depends on which templates you are using.
If you don't have much copy on your site, it may be simpler just to start over.

  • Iphoto - when exporting photos with their titles,iPhoto changes the manual sequence that I have given and imposes an alphabetical sequence

    Mac mini
Processor  2.5 GHz Intel Core i5
    Memory  8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics  Intel HD Graphics 4000 768 MB
    Software  OS X 10.8.5 (12F45)
When exporting a group photos with their individual titles, iPhoto changes the manual sequence that I have given and imposes its own sequence (which seems to be alphabetical).  The export dialogue box allows me to use my titles or to impose a numerical sequence.
How can I keep my titles and the sequencing that I had carefully worked out?

What you are missing is that files have no order - you view them using a program and that program creates the order
When viewing in an iPhoto album you can sort manually and iPhoto will display the photos as you sorted them - but when you move to a different program (the finder for example) you have a totally different set of sorts available - for example in the finder the same set of files can be viewed in alpha order, in size order, in date modified order, etc - none of those are inherent in the file but are sorts set under the view menu
So to meet your requirements you must export with file attributes that allow the finder view options to present your desired view - which is what volunteers here have tried to help with - even though it really does not involve IPhoto in any way

  • Bring far better iPhoto book-templates back!

Please migrate the iPhoto Book templates to Photos.
Photos is better in a lot of aspects but for us none of the offered book templates gets close to "Old World Travel" or "Asian Travel" etc.
They had a far better variety of pages by default, being able to take more photos at the time and needed far less editing.
The poor Photo books just show e.g. 80 pages of always the same boring page layout. Then the message "can only import 80 photos". In iPhoto I added 220 photos and got a nice varying layout. Boom.
If this (rather easy-to-do thing) is not happening, I guess you lost us as customers!

There are other online book providers that may have a more flexible layout that would suit your needs. Here are some of them:
    Sites for Ordering Bound Books
    Ofoto
    Shutterfly
    SharedInk
    ImageStation
    PhotoWorks
    Viovo
    Blurb
Blurb has an application that you can download and build the book locally before uploading.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.
