Iphoto closed unexpectedly and lost all work

Hi,
My wife and I have spent the last 4 hours putting together a photobook and were about to complete it when an error message came up saying that iphoto had closed unexpectedly. I re-opened it and the book still exists but without 80% of the work we had done.
At the time of the message we were reverting an edited photo to the original.
Can anyone help? We desperately want to get this book done as a christmas present and don't have the time to start it again.
Cheers

Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
The information for the book was contained in the Library6.iPhoto file, which is the main database file for your library. That file is normally updated and saved as you use iPhoto and when you Quit. When iPhoto crashed it may have damaged that file, or at least prevented iPhoto from saving your last work on the book. Unfortunately, unless you made a copy of that file as you were working, the changes you had made on the book are gone.
To prevent this loss in the future, Old Toad has created an automator workflow application so that you can quickly and conveniently save a duplicate database file while you are using iPhoto. Read his Tip and follow the links to Toad's Cellar in this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5725730

My iPhoto closed unexpectedly and now it says "Rebuilding the iPhoto Library database". What is going on and are my photos still going to be there?

With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a solution.  We can't see your computer so we need to know the details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
what version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
what were you doing when iPhoto closed unexpectedly?
how big is your library, i.e. how many photos?
how long has the rebuilding been going on?
do you have a recent backup of the library made just prior to this occurring?
    where is your library located?
did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring?
are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
    what type of Mac?
how much free space on your boot drive?

  • Iphoto quit unexpectedly and lost my recent uploaded photos

Iphoto quit unexpectedly when I had just uploded some photos. When I openend Iphoto again, all of my recent uploaded photos were missing.
I have the Iphoto '11 version 9.4.1 and the operating system of my macbook pro is os x mountain lion version 10.8.2.
Is it possible I can recover my photos?

Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Updated to iPhoto 9.6 and lost all of my photos

Hello, I just updated to iPhoto at its prompting and lost my iPhoto library. I am trying to restore it from TimeMachine, but the finder has been saying it is "preparing to copy Pictures" for several minutes with no progress. Help! I've seen other users with this issue, it is insane that this happened, reminds me of windows updates from the 90s.

I am trying to restore it from TimeMachine, but the finder has been saying it is "preparing to copy Pictures" for several minutes with no progress.
How are you restoring from Time Machine? Don't use the Finder to copy, that will not work.
Enter Time Machine with your Pictures folder selected.  See this Help text:

  • IPhoto has crashed and lost all my photos

I imported about 80 new photos earlier today and all was well. Later on I went to have a look at some of the new photos and iPhoto "unexpectedly quit". When it reopened I got a message saying "welcome to iPhoto" etc etc, basically it is as if it's reinstalled, but all my photos have vanished.
I've had a look on my HD and the photos are all there and open perfectly well in Preview, but if I try to import them into iPhoto I get a message telling me they couldn't be imported because they may be an unrecognised file type (they're all normal jpgs) or they may not contain valid data (but other apps can read them).
    Help!! Anyone have any ideas?

    Fegster
iPhoto won't import from the iPhoto Library Folder - a sensible precaution against duplication.
As you're database is corrupted your choices are limited. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library Folder allowing it to overwrite the damaged file. If not, then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same film rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library Folder to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library Folder on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual rolls to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library Folder on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • HT1338 Iphoto closed unexpectedly?  Won't import photos

Iphoto Closed unexpectedly and will not import photos.  Any Help

iPhoto 9.5 immediately tries to "upgrade" my library using the upgrader.
iPhoto 9.5 asks you to run the upgrader to prepare the library for 9.5. It then will update the library to its format.
You need to do the following:
1 - go to your Applications/Utilities folder and double click on the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1 application.
2 - select Choose Library, navigate to your iPhoto library, select it and let the upgrader do its thing.
3 - launch iPhoto 9.5 to open and finish the conversion of the library.

so i have some open work from the night before on my computer and left it on, closed the top, the computer restarted it's self and lost all the work to what was added.....where can i find it....was it auto saved?

If the application supported auto-save, yes, if not, then no.
If you were creating a mail message, it might be in the drafts folder of the e-mail program.
What evidence do you have the computer restarted itself?    Did the Apple logo come up?

  • Iphoto quit unexpectedly and I lost all the pictures I downloaded

Iphoto quit unexpectedly and I lost all of the pictures I had downloaded and one I edited.
    They were all gone
I had just did the major update that morning
Has anyone else been experiencing problems like this?

Remember: we cannot see your machine. There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 8 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS.  So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Basic things like :
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For instance: 'iPhoto won't export' is best explained by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • I updated iPhoto 4 with iPhoto 5 and lost all my photos!

I updated iPhoto 4 with iPhoto 5 and lost all my FRICKIN photos! Anyone else have this problem? If I do a search for img_ I do get about 3800 photos, so they do still seem to exist in various locations with multiple duplicates and/or photos that are different but have the same name. I know if I try moving them all to one location I'll get the message "Do you want to replace?" many many times. Any suggestions?

    Allan:
It did not work on my SL Mac Mini and I am sure you will have the same results.
I need to find a quick and easy download PPC application for someone on this forum who is having problems in Snow Leopard and I want to rule out that it is PPC that is the problem.  I had suggested he download Appleworks for this purpose; ooooops!
Can you think of a quick and dirty PPC app to download?
    Yes, he has Rosetta installed...
I am almost positive that the problem is that his game was released in 2003 when OS X was 10.2.x and it just will NOT function in Snow Leopard without some patch or upgrade.
I am getting my hands on a copy of this game tomorrow, so I will go down that path for him, too!

    Hi Diovizor,
Make sure that you do not use [http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Clear%20Recent%20History Clear Recent History] to clear the 'Browsing History' when you close Firefox.
Also please make sure that you not run Firefox in (permanent) Private Browsing mode.
You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Preferences > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
To see all History and Cookie settings, choose: Preferences > Privacy > History: Firefox will: Use custome settings for history. Uncheck "Always use permanent Private Browsing mode"
    Hope that helps!

  • Iphoto closing unexpectedly when "loading photo"-- please help

When I click to open iphoto, the application itself begins to load, but in the process of "loading photos" it freezes, shuts itself down, and then a message appears stating that iphoto closed unexpectedly giving me options to report, relaunch, and ignore.
I have removed all my photos to an external hard drive, guessing that I might have too any images. However the problem persists.
Any suggestion??? Iphoto is one my most used applications and i really miss it working. I appreciate any help!

I'm sorry to tell you that your problems aren't over.
but creating a new user did!
This is not a solution, but a test. As I said above:
see if the problem is repeated there. If it is, then a re-install of the app might be indicated. If it's not, then it's likely the app is okay and the problem is something in the main account.
So now we really need to find out what's causing the problem in the main account.
But that's just another problem because of this:
I moved all the jpeg files out of the iphoto library folder onto an external hard drive and then deleted the pictures out of the library folder.
Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos.
You've wrecked your library. Do you want to fix it and iPhoto in the main account? Post back if you do.

  • Help!!! accidently saved my psd file and lost all my design

    hello forumers
i  accidently saved my psd file and lost all my design is there a way to get it back?!??!?!pls helppppp...
ps:i didnt delete it,i just clicked on save as wihtt he same name, but i dindt notice the design was missing, until i opened up the psd file again.
    thank you.

This is a Mac Photoshop forum, so it was a reasonable assumption. If you closed the file you are hooped unless you can access a backup.
Too late for this job, but you might want to install Dropbox. You get 2 GB of space for free on Dropbox’s servers, and any files saved in your My Dropbox (I think that’s what it’s called on Windows) folder are copied to Dropbox’s servers. The big deal is that you can share any files or folders with other users or other computers, so you could have the same folder on your work and home PCs and files saved on one are automatically updated and available on the other. The other big deal is that Dropbox keep old versions of files. I keep all working jobs in Dropbox and remove them only when complete and ready for archive. It is a huge bacon saver.

If you sign up using the above link I get a tiny increase in my allotted storage.
