IPhoto content insecure...now duplicates with weird codenames

iPhoto told me that my content was insecure and asked me to create a new folder and then started reuploading all my photos. Now I have duplicates of photos and everything has weird code-like names in the captions.
What happened and what can I do to make it go back to normal?

what version of iPhoto? What was the exact message? What exactly is happening?what do you mean by creating a new folder? Where are things being uploaded to? What is uploading them?
In short your post makes no sense - there are no messages re security in iPhoto - iPHoto does not work with folders - does not change photo names - and you never see its structure

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you got duplicate field error.
Based on the error message, you can try to use the following code sample to remove duplicate records, and check whether it works:
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepointgeneralprevious/thread/41ee04bd-91fb-4bf9-932a-bac42c56c357
Here is a similar issue, you can also use the ‘RemoveDuplicateColumn64’ provided:
    http://sharepointsurfer.wordpress.com/2012/04/27/how-to-fix-publishing-site-content-deployment-error-duplicate-first-name-column/
What’s more, as you had said, you can recreate a site with a fresh deployment job.
    Thanks & Regards,

    Hi,
I have accidentally deleted iPhoto app and now i am left with blank photos and blank events in my iphoto.
I tried eveything. Ranging from removing the pplist, installing, Iphoto Library manager but it seems to get worse.
i have the original package content
and this is how my iphoto library icon looks like.
And when i try to drop my original content package into the new iphoto, it will show an error message.
Kindly tell me what else can i do?
    im using iphoto'09

Outside chance: try recover the deleted files with an (expensive) app like File Salvage
    Other than that, no hope.

  • How can I order a calendar that I created in iPhoto 7.1.5, now incompatible with Apple Store.

How can I order a calendar that I created in iPhoto 7.1.5 which is now incompatible with the Apple Store?  I am using a mac pro 1,1 which cannot upgrade to the new version of iPhoto.

You could try to upgrade to an earlier iPhoto '11 version, since you are running Snowleopard.
iPhoto '11 should still be available as part of the boxed retail version of iLife '11.
Try to buy one at Amazon, then upgrade to iPhoto 9.2.x from the Support page:  http://support.apple.com/downloads/#iphoto%209.2

I upgraded to iOS 5 on my 3GS without any issues but now everytime I connect to iTunes the message ' iTunes was interrupted while restoring the contents of the iPhone. would you like to restore the phone again now? with the options of cancel, continue restore and delete back-up. what happens if i click delete back up?

I'm not getting the message anymore!
    What I did:
1.- Went to preferences in itunes/ Devices --> erased the corrupted backup (there were two backups)
    2.- Upgraded to iOS 5.0.1
    Done!
PS: Maybe upgrading solves the problem without erasing the corrupted backup

  • I downloaded an update for iPhoto yesterday. Now, when I try to open iPhoto...I get a gray screen with the "circling" icon in the middle but it doesn't open. All was fine before the download yesterday? Any suggestions, Thanks. Wayne K..

I download a suggested "update" from the App Store for my iPhoto yesterday. Now when I try and open my iPhoto, I get a grey screen with the rotating circle icon in the middle......that just keeps rotating. Ergo, it won't open!!! Before the "download" all was fine in Heaven & Earth....now, I'm a little peeved.
    Anyone have a suggestion?
    Thanks,
    Wayne K.
ps Have a good day, God Bless America ...............and be weary of iPhoto update downloads, very weary.

No need to be wary of iPhoto updates however it is a good idea to follow the instructions when updating. I haven't updated iPhoto from the App Store before however it should not be much different than doing a DVD update. Here are instructions on updating the library:

  • Hi, I've just downloaded Aperture 3.2 and transfered all my iPhoto Library but now when I use the Aperture program it runs at the slowest speed possible and is almost impossible to work with. It is constantly processing why is this?

Hi, I've just downloaded Aperture 3.2 and transfered all my iPhoto Library but now when I use the Aperture program it runs at the slowest speed possible and is almost impossible to work with. It is constantly processing why is this?

You can click on the text that says 'processing' in the main windows and it will open (toggle) the Activity Window, (can also be accessed via the Window menu -> Show Activity.
It will tell you what Aperture is doing with more precision and perhaps even how many photos it still needs to process. It is generally best to wait until all that processing is done before you start working with the photos (well it is best to first turn of options what you dont want to use, perhaps Faces or Previews and then let it process the new photos).

  • My iphoto library database was corrupted with one file taking over all images i purchased aperture, selected no for importing duplicates and yet it is still importing duplicates what can i do??????

my iphoto library database was corrupted with one image taking over every other image on the database
i purchased aperture and am in the process of copying my i photo library , i ticked no to importing duplicate images and yet it is still importing many duplicates including the photo which took over my old iphoto library
help how can i stop it from importing the duplicates?

my iphoto library database was corrupted with one image taking over every other image on the database
What exactly do you mean by that? Do you mean one thumbnail only was visible in the iPhoto Window? What? This is the sort of thing that's fixed easily by an iPhoto rebuild. Gives us some more information and we may be able to help with that - iPhoto version and a description of exactly what's happening will help.
i ticked no to importing duplicate images and yet it is still importing many duplicates including the photo which took over my old iphoto library
A couple of thoughts here: If the iPhoto Library is corrupted and Aperture is importing from this damaged Library well you can't expect that it will all go easily, can you?
The iPhoto Library contains two versions of edited photos. Are you sure that you're not seeing the second version?

  • How do I transfer all my iPhoto contents from my external hard drive back to my MacBookPro iPhoto?

My MacBook Pro recently had to have it's software cleared completely by a genius at the apple store. I purchased an external hard drive to save all of my documents and photos safely on so I would not lose them. I now am having difficulty reloading all of my iPhoto contents back onto my laptop from my external hard drive. Has anyone else experienced this? Will my iPhoto library go back to it's original appearance with all of the special albums I had made and the way in which I organized my photos and videos? How do I find what folders my photos were saved on my external hard drive to drag back onto my laptops iPhoto library?

iPhoto stores it's pictures in the Pictures/iPhoto Library, so if you have this backed up on a external drive, then it's a simple matter of replacing the new iPhoto Library (free of anything) with the copy of the older one on the external drive and running iPhoto.
If you have some items in the new iPhoto Library you can export them to the Desktop until the old one is replaced and then reimport them. Also another mehtod is to right click on the iPhoto Library and "Show Package Contents" inside is a folder called "Originals" which contain your files.
If you replaced the files and iPhoto doesn't open up, then reset it.
    iPhoto rebuild database:   https://support.apple.com/kb/HT2638
You might want to consider not having your movies in iPhoto, it's not designed to handle too much, in fact 10,000 pictures of mine seem to overload it.
You can keep seperate iPhoto Libraries, use the option key held at launching of iPhoto to select another iPhoto Library.

  • How do I stop iPhoto 11 from making duplicates when importing whole library from an older MAC?

I just bought a Mac Mini, and i tried to import the iphoto library from my PowerMac G5 (iPhoto 6).    It duplicates many of the photos so that there more than twice as many photos in the new machine.  I was looking at the photos and some of the duplicates are just resized photos.  I guess older versions of photos.
Is there a way to just import the latest versions of photos?
    Thanks,
    Tony

No it's not a good idea.
Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things, deleting them or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos.
Don't use copy and paste, try drag and drop.
If that still fails then rebuild the Library to the new location:
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Is there a way to migrate my iPhoto content into Lightroom 5?

I have been using iPhoto as my photo organising app since I first got my Mac, and I'm reasonably happy with the way it works. I have all my photos organised into 'Events', and it is all very satisfactory.
However I am aware that iPhoto is on it's way out with the upcoming release of Yosemite in the autumn, and so I wondered about changing over to the 3rd Party, (but highly recommended), Adobe Lightroom app.
I've paid my money for the Adobe 'Creative Cloud' subscription package, which includes full versions of both Lightroom 5 and Photoshop, but I've hit a snag when I come to migrate my photos from iPhoto 9.5.1 into Lightroom 5.5.
Does anyone know if there is a way to migrate iPhoto content -organised into Events- into Lightroom please?
I am running iPhoto under OS X 10.9.4.

iPhoto is not on the way out with the release of Yosemite. Apple have stated that it will be updated to run on Yosemite. That means that iPhoto will continue to run for another 18 months at least.  iPhoto will then be migrated into a new App, called Photos, sometime in 2015. This migration will include the seamless adapting of your iPhoto app to the new Library. Even then, iPhoto will still continue to run until you update to a version of the OS that doesn't run it at all. There has been a lot of discussion on the merits or otherwise of migrating to Lightroom. One thing is sure is that there is no rush, and it might be worth waiting to see what the new Photos app is like before making such a big decision.
You've gone from using a consumer level Photo Manager (retail cost $15) to a using two very serious professional level applications (combined retail cost about $800 - if you could still buy Photoshop at retail at all.) Even at subscription rates thats $100+ per year. Are you sure that's what you want to do? That's a heck of a learning curve for a start.
    Anyway to cases:
Lightroom has no ability at all to parse an iPhoto Library. There is no migration path at all. So you'll need to export your Events to folders in the Finder. Then import those to Lightroom.
When you export you're going to have to choose which version to export - the original or the edited versions. Or both - and have duplicates in your Lightroom library. Also, you'll need to consider what to do with metadata that you may have added in iPhoto. Along the way you'll lose the non-destructive editing feature.
    This User Tip
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4921
has details of the options in the Export dialogue.

  • Iphoto Pics Show Blank thumbnails with "!" in the shadow

My library file has pics in it and shows data taking up space but when I open IPhoto, all my thumbnails are blank. when i click on the pics, a shadowbox with an exclamation point shows up. The file was ok until I copied the entire library file to an external to transfer to a new system. All i am trying to do is pull one library to a new desktop. The original library file was nowhere to be found including in the pics however it did have content when i opened iphoto application. I went to an application of iphoto manager and it found and pulled the file but after that, all my images show up as blank.
    Bunce

That happens when iPhoto loses the file path to the original photos.Try the three fixes below in order as needed:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select all options.
2 - rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: It may take some time to create the new library if you have a lot of photos.
3 - start over with a new library and import the Originals folder from your original library as follows:
Creating a new library while preserving the Events from the original library.
Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
Open the library package like this.
Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open Photo window
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library if you have the Finder checkbox unchecked in the Events preference pane.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.
