IPhoto/corrupted files/restore from remote?

HELP! iPhoto has decided overnight that some of my photos are corrupt. is there ANY way to restore them--maybe from the synced off-site iDisk? It seems to be random as to which are corrupted, and it changes from opening to opening. The thumbnails are there, clearly visible. Double clicking does nothing, dumping the plist does nothing.
Please help!
Thanks!

ladyirol's right about the iDisk. I forgot about that. I've not used that capability so don't know if you can bring back from you iDisk but that would be way to go. If the iPhoto Library folder can be brought down intact and placed on your desktop to compare between it and your current library that would allow you to make see which new files in your current library that are OK you want to save to import into the backup library. You can use iPhoto Library Manager to copy photos, rolls and or albums between two libraries. The free version will only copy 20 at a time.

  • Block corruption - cant restore from backup

    Hi,
we have development database 11.2.0.1. There was problem with storage, and as a result there are two corrupted blocks in data files.

I have set up the backup using Enterprise Manager - Schedule Backup.
What I need to know is how to avoid taking backup with corrupted blocks in future. I need such backup to fail.
Thank you for advices and regards.

  • IPhone 6 iOS 8.1 - Photos blank / preview corrupt after restore from backup

    Hello,
I just restored from a recent backup of an iPhone 5s @iOS 8.1 (from today) to a new iPhone 6, also on iOS 8.1.
Everything else is ok, except the photo library. Only those images that have been edited within in iPhone 5s stock photos app over the last few months do not show up in the iPhone 6 library. The total number of images, videos etc shows up as exactly the same on both devices.
In thumbnail view, they're just white boxes. When I click on the white thumbnail, I can see the intended image for less than a second before it turns into a blank white image again. Interestingly, if I try and revert the image to its original version (as clicked by the iPhone 5s, before it was edited in-app), the image becomes viewable again.
I could do this if it were just a few images, but there are far too many of these scattered around in my photo library for this approach to be convenient.
I have tried restoring from the same back up again, no luck. I even deleted the backup from iTunes, made a fresh back up of the iPhone 5s and tried restoring to the iPhone 6 - no luck.
Is there anyway to force rebuild the photo library? Will that help?
Or should I delete all data and settings from the iPhone 6 and start over again ?
    Any clues?

OK I was able to fix the issue.
Just in case this helps anyone:
I used iExplorer and navigated to the "PhotoData" folder. I backed up and then deleted the following data files form this folder:
    1) com.apple.photos.caches_metadata.plist
    2) PhotosAux.sqlite
    3) Photos.sqlite
Then I quit the Photos App, hard reset the iPhone and reopened the Photos App. It took a while to rebuild the photo library, but everything seems to be back to normal now.

  • Iphoto corrupting files

    Hi,
I have a fairly large library of about 10,100 photo's. First off I wonder if this is a problem, can iphoto handle such a load. Secondly I have been discovering random photo's that will no longer open, the ball spins indefinately on a white screen. When I go the jpg itself in the library it won't open as well, it says, "may be a corrupt file." Photoshop will not open these files either. I pulled out my backup library which I'd saved on a separate firewire drive a few months ago and these same photo's are not corrupt and work fine when I replace the corrupt ones. Has anyone experienced this or know how the files may have been corrupted?
    Thanks
    G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   2GB Ram

I too have trouble with Iphoto files going corrupt. I don't know why. I will be working and all at once some or all the phot go blank. I just have a series of outlined blank boxes. I have renamed the Ilibrary foler and created new ones and I still get the problem. I've this happen about 4 times. I am extremely frustrated. I'm getting afraid to do new projects for fear of putting all the time in and then not be able to run IMovie or IDVD because Iphot is messed up. Does anyone know why this corruption is happening? It seems like there are a lot of other people out there having similar problems. I use my Mac mostly for photo projects. Although a loyal fan of macs for years I about to the point I want to give up on it. Sorry about the venting but I'm reallyyyyyyyyyy frustrated.

  • Can't unlock files restored from TM backup

i just restore my entire my documents folder which i had on an old hdd to the new ssd lion installition, now every file is locked. when i try and  unlock it, it says the file cannot be unlocked and can only be duplicated!
    help!
    Neerav

You can't restore a backup using Setup Assistant or Migration Assistant to a system running an older version of the Mac OS than the one that was backed up. If you have a local (not network) Time Machine backup, boot from it by holding down the option key at startup and selecting "Recovery HD" as the startup volume. Erase the drive and install Lion, then boot into Setup Assistant and restore from the last TM snapshot.

  • I'd like to file restore from my ipod

Hi guys, I'm desperate for some help.
I lost my hard drive with all my music + video clips due to a heads failure.
My ipod classic has 9724 songs on it, which I would like to restore. (My itunes shows having 9950 in the library.)
My itunes sees my ipod, but of course cannot see the original folders and files. (They're dead.)
I would like to copy all files off my ipod onto a new external hard drive.
My windows explorer can (sometimes) see my ipod classic as a drive. When I browse through the ipod_control directory, I can see music, which has 50 folders: F00 through to F49.
When I browse these folders I can see files. Many many files. They amount to 111GB of data.
When I try to copy these files manually, I get "Cannot copy ICYI: The parameter is incorrect" - ICYI being a filename.
Searching google tells me that, most likely, that filename has an illegal character. I cannot see that to be true.
Every file on my music folder has this problem but all the games folders, etc, copied fine. (Figures...)
    What would you do?
Can I do this with a simple program?
    Can I do this manually?
If no to the above, can I do this with a paid service, eg icloud or something ?
    Help is appreciated.

That sounds like a failed disc read. This is probably too long for you too but see Corrupt iPod classic,
The SyncToy backup tool I suggest in the first link is handy for reading data from "troubled" drives. Unlike Windows Explorer it moves on to the next item after a read error. Multiple passes may recover most of the data.

  • IPhoto empty after restore from time machine

HELP!!!!!!!!!!  I've lost 30GB of photos!!!
Let me explain... i recently deleted some photos i didnt want to, so knowing i have backed up all my photos on time machine, i thought i would just resotre them.  Knowing i cannot restore individual photos since upgrading to Lion, i set about resotring my whole library.  I know this worked as it said it was transferring 30Gb of data.  However, once it was completed and i loaded iphoto up, i was met with lots of empty squares where the thumbnails should be.  upon maximising the photo, i am met with a black screen with a triangular exclamation mark.  This made me think the whole photo library had been lost...
However, if i select an individual photo and click 'File> Reveal in finder> Original file', the file is still there.  I can open it in preview, so the 30 GB that was moved, hasnt been lost.  That makes me think that its a case of the file extensions, or the link between iphoto and the files being wrong.  Does anyone know how i go about fixing this problem.  I dont particually want to have to import nearly 6000 photos back into the library when the time machine should have done all this for me?
    Like i say HELP!!!!!

    Try this:
Start over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
    1. Open the current library package like this.
    2. Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
    3. Drag the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.
Check to see if the new library contains ALL of your photos or just the same ones in your current library.  If it's all, then you can continue using the new library and remove the old one.

  • Should I rebuild the iPhoto library or restore from backup?

When I start iPhoto I get this message:
"Your iPhoto library is either in use by another application or has become unreadable"
Shut down and restart your computer, and then open iPhoto again. If the problem persists, try rebuilding your iPhoto library. To do this, quit iPhoto, and then reopen it while keeping the Option and Command keys pressed. You can also try restoring your photo library from a backup.
What do I do?  Which is best?
    Robert

If the restart did not solve it, rebuild the library, but make a backup (don't overwrite any backup, that you have).
See Terence Devlin's post on how to rebuild here:
Your photo library is either in use by another application or has become unreadable https://discussions.apple.com/message/16810380#16810380

Is the OTN file corrupt ? or is the download corrupting the file ?

    - Server name

    - Browser + Version IE 5.5

    - Error Msg

Thank you, Ideato' for taking an interest in this issue.
What you say cannot be because this is a package for Corporate use with drivers for an entire series of printers. They surely know that an IT department would store the files on some file server. I can understand why FF has all of its Open options greyed out. It intelligently senses that the file is missing, and it is not too difficult to program.
    Thanks again.

  • Where does song files restored from recycle bin go?

I'm a newbie with iTunes. In error, I deleted a dozen songs while cleaning up duplicates. I found them in the Recyle Bin, and as I'm accustomed, "Restored" each individually. However, none of the songs appeared in the My Music/iTunes/iTunes Music folder. Does anyone know where I may find the files, or should I have used another method to restore the songs to my library? Thanks for the help.

The Restore function in Windows puts the file back to where it was before it was deleted. If you want to know where that will be before you restore it, look in the Recycle Bin at the column "Original Location." (If the "Original Location" is not visible, go to View > Choose Details and check its box).
If you don't want that, you can just drag the icon from the Recycle Bin to wherever you want it, instead of using Restore.
Also note that putting a file back into the iTunes folder does not automatically re-add it to your iTunes library. You need to use the iTunes command File > Add File (or Folder) to Library.

  • Can not sort the files in JFileChooser if the files are from remote machine

    Hi All,
Let me set the context of the question.
I have extended the JFileChooser to support the listing/view of files.dirs etc of remote location through CORBA.To achieve that i have customized
my FileSystemView to support it. In general ,the current JFileChooser sorts the file when we have details view .My question is related to this. The default
JFileChooser has the support for sorting but when i customized the FileSystemView, the sorting functionality is no more exist.I tried with TableRowSorter as well but
the sorting can be achieved in View only, the model still remains same as initial.
Any pointer towards this will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks

Can anyone help me out to solve this problem or any suggestion regarding this ?

  • ICal files - restoring from backup

Can anyone please tell me which iCal files I need to copy across from my 10.5.1 Time Machine backup to my newly installed 10.5.2 system? I have found the Calendars folder but it contains some confusing filenames including two calendar sub-folders, a cache file and a cache-1 file. I don't want to mess up my new installation but just need to grab about 100 events (on dates which I can't remember) including friends and family birthdays! TIA.
    Simon

Thanks Kappy but are you sure? I don't have an iCal folder in either 10.5.1 or 10.5.2.
In 10.5.2 I can find the following:
    Home/Library/Calendars/451DDA40-4B90-493E-AD00-0DE46B267BBA.calendar/info.plist
    Home/Library/Calendars/451DDA40-4B90-493E-AD00-0DE46B267BBA.calendar/Events/(ics event files)

    System/Library/Frameworks/CalendarStore.Framework/Versions/A/Resources/iCalExter nalSyncConduit.plist
    System/Library/Frameworks/CalendarStore.Framework/(many more files and folders)
In 10.5.1, it's similar but the two Cache files marked above aren't there (or are invisible).
Bit of a maze to be sure and way beyond my comprehension... Unfortunately I'm forced to do it this way as I had to erase my internal 10.5.1 disk yesterday as I couldn't boot up...
