IPhoto crashes immediately on large photocast
Adding to the list of photocasting probs, when I try to photocast:
- a large album (400+ images)
- at small size setting (64 MB, or so it says)
iPhoto crashes immediately.
I have 13,000 images on a networked volume (samba share; 1 GB Ethernet) on which my iPhoto library also lives. This works well for iTunes and iPhoto, generally. Could that be a contributing factor? Is there some caching inherent in iPhoto that fails when the get request is too large and there isn't a NOS to buffer it (whereas the OS would locally)?

IPhoto crashes immediately upon launch
I was was using iPhoto to play with a bunch of pictures I just took on vacation, closed it one night, then went to open it the next day and iPhoto crashed upon launch. My libary is about 7,000 photos, and I would REALLY like to keep all of the titles, comments, and other information.
I sent a crash report to Apple. I've read around in the discussions here, but nothing seems to be working. If I hold down option while I launch and use an existing library, it crashes. If I hold down option while I luanch and create a new library everything works just fine except none of my pictures show up. The only other thing I've been able to figure out is that if I move the Library6.iPhoto file then launch iPhoto it starts up fine, but again none of my pictures show up. I assume something is wrong with this (all-important) file. Any ideas what I can do? Thanks.

PowerBook G4 Mac OS X (10.4.5)I have a similar issue and have re-imported my library - of course you lose everything you've done to the photos since day one (titles, ratings, albums and so on). In addition it appears that any photos that I've modified I now have multiple copies of - a total mess. I'm pasting my error log below...
I've been so pleased with all things Mac since my conversion in 02 - but this type of bug is something that really needs to be addressed. Come on Apple - figure this one out!

If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only...’

Iphoto Crashes immediately at launch after I did the update for photo streaming
I am a new Mac user. Have had Macbook Pro running Snowleopard originally. Upgraded to Lion as soon as Lion came out. Checks for updates weekly. Installed iLife '11 and have been using iPhoto some.
Bought new iPhone 4S for wife, Upgraded my iPhone 4 to ios 5. Wanted to use photo streaming, Noticed update on iPhoto so I downloaded. Upgraded Lion to 10.7.2
Upon first launch, iPhoto immediately crashes. Have tried all the fixes in here. Don't know how to uninstall and re-install... Deleted the p.list thing in the library. Downloaded iPhoto manager and reset all the user permissions..

I have a 2013 iMac 27" running 10.9. Many apps crash regularly, but now I have a reproducible case. Whenever I launch iPhoto, it displays a the main window with a spinner and then crashes. The crash log contains this information:

The particular exception, EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV), is part of most of my crash reports. At this point, I'm thinking I might just wipe my HD and only copy over files from a backup as I need them, but I'm wondering if anyone has ideas before I do that.Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2. -
IPhoto crashes immediately after opening
I have tried to open iPhoto for the past few days, and it seems to open properly, but then crashes and comes up with a lengthy error report that is supposedly sent to Apple. I think it goes back to when I switched from Mobile Me to iCloud last week.
Try trash the 3ivx folder from
HD/Library/Application Support
If that doesn't help, post the first 50 lines only of the crash report.

Iphoto Crashes immediately after upgrade
I just upgraded to iPhoto 9.5.1 When I try to open iPhoto now it says I need to upgrade my library to work with this new version of iPhoto. Almost instantly when I click on 'upgrade' it crashes. It crashes so fast I can't even read what pops up, but I think it said 'examining iPhone library". I'm totally at a loss. I tried opening it with Option+command to repair the database, but when I do it still says I need to upgrade my library to work with the new version of iPhoto.
Anyone have any ideas?Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter the name of the crashed application or process. For example, if iTunes crashed, you would enter "iTunes" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
Step 2
In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ User Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of crash reports. The name of each report starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report related to the process in question. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful. -
IPhoto crashes when ordering large, hardcover book! iLife 11
Can anyone help? I spent many hours creating a book as a Christmas gift and when I try to order it iphoto "quits unexpectedly" after approx. page 50. I saw another thread about deleting something in keychain, quitting all other applications and dragging plist file to desktop. None of these solutions worked! I am using iLife 11 - all software is up to date! It quits during the assembly phase.
KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE is most often related to bad data. Try the following: make a temporary, backup copy (select the library and type Command+D) and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

I get this error report when trying to open iPhoto. Bear in mind that i'm transferring iPhoto from an older MacBook Pro to a new iMac and not all of the files seem to have come across:

AlexFirst delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder and try launching iPhoto again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding the the Option key. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
That file should be located in the HD/Library/Frameworks/iLifeAQLAccess.framework/Versions/A folder. You can find it by using Find Any File which can search in areas that spotlight can't.
If the file is not there, reinstall iPhoto, apply the updaters, repair disk permissions and try again.

Hi all,
Been using iPhoto for a few months now - no complaints until just recently. Downloaded 40-50 photos from a friend's online Picasa library. Put them all in a folder and tried importing them all into my library. iPhoto crashes immediately. Tried dragging and dropping - same thing. Tried a single photo - same thing. My library has about 2,000 photos and I have 50GB of disk space left, so me no understand what the **** is going on.
Weird - I just tried adding an old photo (that I didn't get off Picasa) and it seemed to work. What's going on?!johnnydrama
Have these photos been edited using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements? This sounds like the bug that exists between the latest version of iPhoto and/or Quicktime and PS and PE.
Below is a workaround/ fix developed by Stuart Chapman

2. Locate the 'Embed Chosen Profile' AppleScript in your Library\Scripts\ColorSync folder on your Mac OS X start-up disk.
3. Make an alias of the above script (⌘L) and then move the alias to your desktop or other convenient location.
4. Make a backup copy of your iPhoto Library Folder (I just used Copy 'n' Paste from the Finder).
5. Locate the problematic photos from within your iPhoto Library's sub-folders and drag them (a folder at a time if necessary) to the 'Embed Chosen Profile' script alias on your desktop.
6. The Script should run and ask you to select a ColorSync Profile. Navigate to System\Library\ColorSync\Profiles and select the 'sRGB Profile' (this is the profile recommended by Apple).
7. The script will then embed the selected sRGB ColorSync profile into each image that was contained in the folder that you dragged onto the script icon at step 5.
You will have to run the 'Embed Chosen Profile' script against photos stored in both your Originals and Modified folders within your iPhoto Library Folder. You do not need to run the script against the photos in your Data folder (because the Data folder only contains thumbnail images).
The process wasn't too bad for me because I only have 1000 or so photos. It took about 30 minutes. Unfortunately the script doesn't process folders that contain sub-folders (which is pretty much how iPhoto organises your iPhoto Library). So you have to select the 'actual' parent folder that contains the images that you want to fix.
Once all of your images are fixed, you can restart iPhoto and see if it has resolved the problem.
If, like me, you've experienced numerous iPhoto crashes due to this issue, it's probably worth rebuilding your iPhoto Library, just in case any of the crashes have caused the library database files to become corrupted. To do this, shutdown iPhoto and then restart it again whilst holding down the CMD (⌘) and OPT (⌥) keys. Then select the option to Rebuild the iPhoto Library.
Once Apple issue a proper fix (hopefully an updated version of QuickTime), I will probably revert to my backup iPhoto Library, but for now at least, I'm back up and running!

IPhoto crashes when trying to burn CD
For reasons that I cannot explain, everytime I am trying to burn a CD with approximately 200 pictures (1/2 a CD of 700MB), iPhoto crashes immediately after the "preparing to burn" phase. It is incredibly frustrating. I have plenty of RAM available. Anyone else having this difficulty? I have the latest version of 5.*. I haven't got iphoto 6.

i was trying to backup my photos to install iphoto 6. after six successful burns (approx 4.2GBs) it started giving me the same problem. trying to burn a cd with approx 670MBs and it crashes right after the preparing disk dialog... any ideas? -
I updated from 10.8.1 to 10.8.2 and after restarting lots of apps just crash immediately upon opening, including:

etc the list goes on and on.

I get a message saying "iTunes quit unexpectantly" I will post the entire message below. I restarted the computer in safe mode, and tried to launch iTunes. It did not open. I restarted the Mac in normal function, and iTunes still didn't work.

IPhoto crashes when trying to open a large photo book
My wife has been working for days assembling a large (90+ pages) photo book. Now when we go into iPhoto and try to open up the book she's been working o, iPhoto crashes. I can open other photo books we've made, just not that one.
back up and rebuild your iPhoto library - launch iPhoto while depressing the option (alt) and command (apple) keys and use the first three options
Just tried rebuilding the thumbnails like you suggested and still no luck.
If you used the first three options you rebuilt the entire library - not just the thumbnails - did you select all three or did you select only rebuild thumbnails?

IPhoto '11 crashing while playing large video's
My iPhoto '11 is crashing while playing large video's 30 mb or more. The whole lap top (Processor 2,5 GHz Intel Core i7) crashes there after.
solutions are welcome.As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few videos into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

Iphoto crashes almost immediately after payment taken for book order
Hi
I'm trying to upload my first iphoto book. I make the payment and almost immediately iphoto crashes - it then prompts me to repair which I do and then I try again and the same happens?
I've tried safe mode as suggested elsewhere to no avail? Support is now shut is there anything else I can try?

RBoot into Safe Mode, Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode, and create a PDF file of the book as described in this Apple Document: iPhoto, Aperture: Previewing an order in iPhoto or Aperture. Proof the book for any errors, typos and others, before starting the ordering process.
If the PDF file is OK then order the book while still in Safe Mode. Keep the PDF file to compare to the printed copy when you receive it.
