IPhoto crashes upon connecting the camera.

Since the application works when no camera is connected, I am inclined to think that the problem has to do with the preferences or the iPhoto library. Some days ago I deleted what I thought to be extra copies of my pictures when they were actually part of the iPhoto library that is automatically generated when pictures are uploaded. I believe I messed up with the paths that the application uses and now I don’t know if I can restore the original settings. Can that be done?

Assuming you did this using the finder then you broke the cardinal rule of iPhoto (and all database programs). NEVER make any changes of any sort to the structure or content of the database using any other program (like the finder or PhotoShop, etc).
If that us what you did your choices are to undo what you did and put the iPhoto library back exactly like it was, or restore your backup from before you corrupted your library or start over with a new library and import your original photos

If neither iPhoto not IC can seethe card it might suggest an issue with the card or the ports on the camera/mac.
Try reformat the card, change the ports and/or use a USB Card Reader.

    Hi there,
If you purchased FaceTime from the Mac App Store, the first thing that I would recommend is removing and reinstalling the application. Take a look at the articles below for more information.

  • I have an Air running Mountain Lion. I also have a digital point-and-shoot camera, but have never downloaded any images from the camera to this Air. If I connect the camera to the Air, what might I expect? Will connecting the camera to the Air by a cable

I have an 11" Air with lots of remaining capacity running Mountain Lion. I also have a digital point-and-shoot camera. I have never downloaded images from the camera to this Air. However, if I just connect the camera to the Air's USB port, with the camera's available cable, and the Air is open, will a program like ImageCapture or iPhoto, auomatically come up, and I can begin to download wanted images? Or, will this sort of connection delete or fry everything on the Air? Do I need any other software on board? Will current Apple onboard programs allow me to download images from my camera and not destroy everything else?

    Answered. Thanks.

  • IPhoto does not see the camera

iPhoto does not see the camera, although it worked really well for two years. Computer has been regularly updated. Please help, thank You.

Image Capture doesn't see the camera. I have tried with two different Sony cameras, that I have been using for a long time on this computer. It is iMac 27''. Both of these cameras work normaly in MacBook Air, that means that the problem is not in the camera, or the cards. Those are the things I have tried so far. Only difference I created on the computer is that I have, two or three days ago, installed external hard drive WD My Book Studio which is connected to the computer by FireWire 800.

  • Using an external hard drive to connect the camera to the Mac Book Pro

I am about three weeks away from a 9 to 4 pin firewire cable. In the meantime, I am logging and capturing from my Canon AX HI through my external hard drive. I am not super amazed at the quality of the image, it's noisy.
I am using HDV tapes, and I don't beleive the lighting should be causing the issue.
Does anyone know if using the external hard drive to connect the camera to my Mac Book Pro is compromising the quality of the image? Can I expect a beautiful strong image on a lap top?
    Thanks for any help.

There is ZERO quality loss when you capture via firewire. It is a digital transfer of files...that's it. The issue you have is that you are trying to judge the quality of your image based on what you see with your computer monitors, and that is simply the LAST thing you should be doing.
And since this is HDV, the only way to monitor that is with an HD card or I/O device, and an HD monitor or TV. Like the Matrox MXO2 mini or AJA I/O Express mini and HDTV.

  • How do i get video from my sony hx100 digital camera to my mac? after connecting the camera via the supplied usb cable, iMovie shows icons for 5 videos, but none will load.

i've connected the camera to the mac using the supplied usb cable. imovie shows 5 icons for videos but all of them have the red circle with slash through them and the box to import them is grayed out.

Get a nice Sony miniDV camcorder. It is not too expensive; it is small and easy to carry around to shoot your video. Most importantly, it will be instantly compatible with iMovie. You don't have to install any software, just connect it via FireWire (Sony calls this iLink) and you are good to go!
I have had several Sonys and love them. You don't need one with fancy editing capabilities because you will edit your movies in iMovie. Just be sure that it has AV In and Out so you can import and export back to the camcorder.
My current version is the small DCR HC-26. There are newer versions of that HC-30something and 40something. Look at the specs on Sony's website
Some of them require the use of a dock to import and export. I am not really fond of that feature. I like just connecting directly to the camera.

  • Iphoto crashes so tried the Alt start with new library and that worked. So now what? How to I get back to my pictures.

Iphoto crashes so tried the Alt start with new library and that worked. So now what? How to I get back to my pictures.

That shows you that iPhoto is working correctly and whatever issue you are having is based in your original library.
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • HT4101 What if I connect the camera adaptor and it says there is not enough power to support it? (fully charged iPad)

What if when I connect the camera adaptor attachment and a message appears that there is not enough power? My iPad is fully charged and I was only downloading three pictures. ???

This might help ya out -> iPad: Using iPad Camera Connector with unsupported USB devices
If you encounter an issue trying to connect a digital camera through an unsupported USB device, try the following steps:
Disconnect the iPad Camera Connector from iPad.
Disconnect any USB device connected to the iPad Camera Connector.
    Restart iPad.
Reconnect the iPad Camera Connector and then connect your digital camera directly to the iPad Camera Connector.
You may need to connect certain cameras, USB Audio, or MIDI devices to a powered USB hub for the iPad Camera Connector to detect them. Find more information on using the iPad Camera Connection Kit.
Note: If you encounter an issue using a USB audio or MIDI device, contact the manufacturer to confirm that the device is compatible with the iPad Camera Connector.
What type of camera do you have connected to the adapter?

  • HT202037 Connect the camera to I pad

When i connect the camera (Samsung DV300F) I get a massage saying "The attached accessory uses too much power" And I can not proceed

You may need a powered USB hub to connect that camera with the Lightning USB camera adapter.
However, why not use the samsung App for your camera which can do this via WiFi.

  • Iphoto crashes  upon importing pictures

I was importing pictures and the iphoto crashed all my events are not showing i have a spinning wheel that is white while iphoto is open. My version of iphoto 11 is 9.4.3.  i have the new version of Maverick but when iphoto crasged i did not have newer version.
I have tried restarting  as well as command and option key held down while opening iphot to try and rebuild and repair but nothing happens to try and have my photos comes back it only prompts to connect camera or drag photos into iphot etc.
    please help
    thank you

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • IPhoto crashed and deleted the newest events?

    Hi,
yesterday iPhoto quit unexpectedly and when I reopened it, several events were suddenly empty. I have no idea where the photos and videos are now... Some of them were still in 'Photos' and some still in 'last 12 months' but most of them are gone. I lost all the photos I had imported that day and some of the day before. I hadn't been able to quit iPhoto for a few days. It kept telling me that it was still importing all though no device was connected and that it cannot quit until import is finished. Also every time I activate iPhoto while it is open but in the background, it automatically switches to 'last import'. It has been doing that for a while, probably a couple of months.
I really want those photos back. Please tell me if there is something I can do to recover them. Thank You!
    I am using iPhoto 9.4.3

    Start with:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Re images that are in "Photos" or "Last 12 Months"
If the Photos are under 'Last Import' or 'Last N Months' then they are in the Library somewhere, just not where you are expecting them to be. We know this as both Last Import and 'Last N Months' are not places, just listings of elements in the the Library.
The two most common reasons that they can't be found is either an incorrect date on the camera or the Sorting (View Menu -> Sort Photos - or Sort Events, as appropriate) has changed.
Quick route to find them: Right-click on one of the images in Last Import and select 'Show Event'. This will bring you to the image in the Library.
And as for the switching to 'Last Import':
Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for a Folder called 'Auto Import' Remove anything in it.
Make no other changes. Start iPhoto. Does that help?
    Regards

  • Elements 9 Downloader Crashes on connection to camera

I have Elements 9, when I try to download files from my camera the downloader crashes. It recognizes the camera but crashes when tying to connect. It worked about a week ago but will not work anymore. Any ideas how I can fix this?

I am not very sure of this problem but want to know if you tried card-reader instead of camera. At least you would be able to continue with your work. Which Camera do you have and whih mode is used to connect?

  • IPhoto crashes when emptying the Trash and then quitting iPhoto

When I empty the iPhoto trash and then quit iPhoto, it crashes every time. When I reopen it the trash is again full.
Also, the items in the trash are blank squares.
    Any ideas?

    Ronniebel:
Have you tried the usual maintenance procedures? Repair disk permissions, repair the disk with Disk Utility while booted into the system installation disk that came with you Mac, run Tiger Cache Cleaner's medium cleaning routine or OnyX to clean out the various user caches and the cron maintenance scripts.
Also download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, substituting your account name for mine. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field.
Another possibility is to run iPhoto Library Manager and use its File->Rebuild Library menu option to rebuild the library.
Next, move the iPhoto Library folder to the Shared folder and set the access so other users can read and write. Then log into another account on you Mac, fire up iPhoto with the Option key depressed and locate and open the library in the Shared folder. See if you can delete the trash there and operate normally. If you can then it's something to do with your other account. If you can't then it's the library itself.
    Good luck.
