IPhoto crashes when connected to iPhone

I am trying to connect my iPhone to my computer to move photos and videos onto the computer. I am using iPhoto to do that. I have downloaded all the latest updates. iPhoto is crashing everytime. Now I cannot reboot my iMac.

I have the same problem. I have tried the following to no avail:
Rebuilding the iPhoto library
Reparing iPhoto library permissions
Searching for the 3ivx folder as mentioned in another thread, but it isn't there.
Booting in safe mode -> launching iPhoto -> force quitting -> rebooting (I saw this suggested somewhere on the net)
I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 from a recent and rather clean install; iPhoto 9.2.3; and have a brand new iPhone 4S running iOS 5.1.1. In fact, this was my very first attempt at importing photos from the iPhone.

  • IPhoto crashes when connecting to iPhone 4

This issue appears to have been around for a while, and I read several answers none of which worked for me.
Suddenly, as soon as I connect my iPhone 4 to iPhoto as I've done many times up until today, iPhoto "quits unexpectedly"...
I don't seem to have a 3vix folder in my Apple Support Library, so no solution there. Help PLEASE!

  • Itunes crashes when connecting iphone

Hi all, I have an iPhone 5 running ios 7.0.2 and iTunes lastest version installed on Windows 8. The problem is, every time I try to connect my iPhone to my computer, iTunes crashes. This started occuring recently (since I upgraded iTunes to the latest version). So is it possible to get some help to fix it ?

  • IPhoto crashes when NAS is connected

I have a quite new MacBook Pro with OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.2.
I experienced some problems with iPhoto since I work with a NAS (Synology 112j with one HDD/Western Digital).
Every time the NAS is connected to the network and the WiFi is on, iPhoto crashes when trying to start a slide show or build a new slide show. When the NAS is shutdown or I cut the WiFi, iPhoto works without any problems.
The iPhoto library is NOT exported to the NAS, it's still on my MacBook-HDD. The library is managed!
I tried to build up new libraries several times, but the problems occurs again and again.
I had a discussion in the iPhoto section of the community, but we couldn't get the problem fixed.
Now I try it here in the OS forum.
Maybe somebody experienced the same problem and got it fixed.
    I would appreciate any help.

Back up all data. Don't continue unless you're sure you can restore from a backup, even if you're unable to log in.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click the following line to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -Rh $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Step 1 should give you usable permissions in your home folder. This step will restore special attributes set by OS X on some user folders to protect them from unintended deletion or renaming. You can skip this step if you don't consider that protection to be necessary, and if everything is working as expected after step 1.
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not  going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

There are multiple reasons that lead to issue. You should read the troubleshooting guide to get the right solution to solve the issue: iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch not recognized in iTunes for Windows - Apple Support

  • Iphoto crashes on import from iPhone 4s

Seen a thread or two on this but still can't find a solution.  I've tried all the rebuilding etc and even a new library, still iphoto crashes when I try to iimport photos from my iphone 4s.  I am on a brand new 27" imac with Lion.

I think I got it figured out, thanks!  I just deleted the quicktime folder in the application support and so far so good.

Okay, that means with the latest iOS software, it requires the latest version of iTunes on the computer. Which computer OS platform are you using. Now you are saying that after downloading the latest version of iTunes that your iPhone is not being recognized by iTunes? Completely different thing, and the iTunes on the iPhone has nothing to do with that anyway. The iTunes on the iPhone is just for purchases.
If you are having trouble with the iPhone being recognized by iTunes, use the appropriate link for your computer OS for assistance.

  • ITunes crashing when connecting to the store on Windows 8.1

    Hello,
I had iTunes crashing when connecting to the iTunes Store with an Apple ID. I tried unsucessfully all the solutions posted on the many threads of people having the same issue. So I decided to reinstall Windows. A clean Windows 8.1 install from the Microsoft DVD. And guess what, it is still crashing! How can this even be possible?
    The problem:
    - iTunes crashes when connecting to the store with an Apple ID. It connects, briefly freezes, then crashes.
    - I can access the store without an Apple ID without crashes. But it crashes as soon as I connect with an Apple ID.
    The system:
    - A clean, fully updated, Windows 8.1 Pro w/ WMC install from the Microsoft DVD.
    - Applications I installed, along with iTunes: Adobe Reader, Google Chrome, Skype, Office 2013. Nothing else. No crapware. No nothing. These are fairly common applications that shouldn't conflict with iTunes.
    - Antivirus is the built-in Windows Defender.
    - Firewall is the built-in Windows Firewall.
    - Intel HD Graphics 3000 on an Acer V3-571-6486
    - I have not moved Apple's folder from Romaing and Local AppData of the old systems... So it's a clean iTunes profile.
    - I can sucessfully sign-in to the iTunes Store with this account on another computer
    - I have tried with multiple accounts on this computer, all crashing
There are tons of threads about this. I tried all the solutions posted, including:
    - Adding "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support" to the PATH environment variable
    - Copying QTMovieWin.dll from "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support" to "C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes"
    - Moving QTMovieWin.dll from "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support" to "C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes"
    - Updating the graphics card to the latest available driver from Intel's website (9.17.10.3517, 2014-10-04)
    - Downgrade the graphics driver (9.17.10.3347, 2014-01-29)
    - Use the graphic's driver from Acer's website.
    - Use Microsoft's Basic VGA Driver
    - Disable the Graphic's Adapter entirely
    - Have tried to monitor the process with ProcMon, looking for a hint like a missing file or registry entry, but have not found anything helpful.
These solutions seem to have worked for almost everyone, but not me. The crash details in the Windows Application log are useless. Faulty module name is 'unknown'.
I am out of solutions. Is there anything left to do? Can anyone out Apple debug the dump file or something? Is there any way to contact Apple about this issue?
    Many thanks.

    Hey zoyashahab,
Ok, so it sounds like there are two issues here we want to address, the first being the iTunes Store connection issue and the second being iTunes not recognizing your iOS devices.
First, I'd start with troubleshooting the recognition by following the steps in here:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538
If after getting that running again, you still can't connect to the iTunes Store, then I'd go through the troubleshooting steps in here:
Can't connect to the iTunes Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1368
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities!
    Best,
    Delgadoh

    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. What were you doing when the problem arose?
    - Did it ever work properly?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
Anything else you can think of that might allow someone else to understand your issue.

  • IPhoto crashes when I name specific faces

iPhoto crashes when I attempt to name specific faces. It will always, for example, crash as soon as I try to enter the name of my son. However, for other people it will quite happily allow me to name the face.
I've set up a new library and a new user, but the behaviour was not replicated with either.
I've tried repairing and rebuilding the library using iPhoto, but this did not fix the problem.
I have tried rebuilding using iPhoto Library Manager, which I've seen many people suggest on here. While this fixed the problem (in that iPhoto didn't crash) the faces were no longer in the right location and it appears as if the face matching was to the wrong photo. Even trying to rescan for faces didn't correct it.
Are there any other potential solutions?

  • IPhoto crashes when I edit with Photoshop!

Whenever I edit an iPhoto photo using Photoshop, iPhoto crashes when I try to import it back into iPhoto. This happens whether I export the photo, Photoshop it, and re-import it, or whether I use iPhoto Preferences to select Photoshop as my editor. I can import other photos into iPhoto, just not photos that have been edited with Photoshop. Help would be much appreciated!

Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • IPhoto crashes when I try to Export

I had a message pop up yesterday that wanted to update iPhoto. After the update iPhoto crashed when ever I tried to export a photo. I even tried to restart and it still crashed. What do I do next?

Trash the HP Plug in from /Library/Application Support/iPhoto
There are two libraries where this plugin might be
    HD/ Library/Application Support/iPhoto
    and
    HD/Users/Your Name / Library/Application Support/iPhoto
(On 10.7 or later: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library)
as well as within the Application package
    /Applications/iPhoto.app/Contents/

  • Iphoto crashing when trying to print

when I select a photo, and go to page setup, the paper size just says 'item1' rather than the usual selection. if I try to change anything and click ok, iphoto crashes.
when I go to print, it hangs.
It seems that the app has lost something to do with the printer settings, but my printer works fine in other apps such as pages, where all the page setup details are in order.
    any idea what to do?
    thanks
    Gwyn

    Gwyn:
    Try the following:
1 - run Disk Utility and repair disk permissons.
2 - delete the print driver for you printer and then reinstall it with Printer Setup Utility.
3 - download and run the 10.4.7 COMBO updater followed by a repair of disk permissions again.
    Do you Twango?
