IPhoto crashes when importing photo-folders that contain aliases
When iLife '06 came out I decided to move my iPhoto-library to a bigger disk by simply creating a new library and re-importing my >10000 photo's. All I got was crashes.
It has taken me quite some time to find out that an alias to the TOP of my photo-folders inside one of the folders deep down in the tree was causing this.
Removing the alias 'cured' the problem...
I suggest Apple writes a fix that makes sure iPhoto does not follow these kinds of aliases, that cause some kind of endless loop...

hi, i have just got a canon 7d and often when importing photos into iphoto 11, (version 9.3.1) iphoto crashes, no matter how many times i try it fails to import, i have searched but not found the 3ivx. plug in that seems to have caused everyone the same problem and when iphoto does import my photos, every 10 photos is courupted and comes up black? i am shooting in raw (.CR2) any help or suggestions would be great thanks.
P.S. i am trying to put off updating to the latest iphoto update because i have almost 40,000 images/videos and whenever i have to update my library iphoto freaks out and i end up having to create a new library and import all photos from scratch which takes me days which i simply dont have......

IPhoto crash when importing photos
Dear all
I have met an iPhoto crash issue for a month. Before, the iphoto worked well with my iPhone 5s and I can import photos through iPhoto. However, it keeps crashing when I try to import photos from my iphone. The problem happens when iPhoto reading the photos from iphone. But the problem just remains with that iPhone. I have tried other iphone on this MBP. They all works fine. And also I have tried to use other mac. It also works fine. Just this MBP and my iphone5s have the crashing problem.
I cannot find the cache for iphoto so I cannot remove them. I also tried to turn off the bluetooth, which does not work on me.
Seeking for help! Now, my iphone has run out of memory I have to import the photos and release some memory. By the way, I have tried Image Capture, which works fine. But it is rather annoying to use it import to iPhoto. Becaus it cannot classify by date automatically><

Iphoto 9.2 crashes when importing photos
iPhoto crashes when importing all picture formats, .jpg etc. from any source. iPhoto 9.2 is same as iPhoto 11 (part if iLife)
Solution to problem is to ininstall or trash a 3rd party app called 3ivx. Look in Applicaton folder. Also look in library>application support

IPhoto crashes when downloading photos from Iphone 4S
iPhoto crashes when downloading photos from iPhone 4S.
I am running 10.6.8 with iPhoto 9.2.1 and iPhone 4S with latest iOS5.
When i try downloading the pics it stops and have to force quit.
I have tryed deleting the 3vix file as suggested on other threads but it is not present.
Any help would be appraciated!

Imovie crashes on opening and iPhoto crashes when importing
iphoto crashes when importing or duplicating and I movie crashes when opening. I've deleted plist files and rebuilt the iphoto library. recently I ran drive Genius disk shredder and wondred if I had deleted anything accidently.

IPhoto 6 crashes when importing photos from hard drive
I just installed and updated iPhoto 6. Each time I try to import to the library photos from my hard drive, whether one or many, iPhoto quits. Anybody else have this problem? Any advice?
This is my "fix" and everythings now works fine !!!
I have only tested this fix on my Mac, which is a Powerbook G4 iMac running Mac OS 10.4.8, QuickTime 7.1.3 and iPhoto 6.0.5...
1. Shutdown any running apps (esp iPhoto/Elements).

The process wasn't too bad for me, I have over 4000 or so photos. It took about 40 minutes.
Unfortunately the script doesn't process folders that contain sub-folders. So you have to select the 'actual' parent folder that contains the images that you want to fix.
Once all of your images are fixed, you can restart iPhoto and see if it has resolved the problem.
Once Apple issue a proper fix (hopefully an updated version of QuickTime), I will probably revert to my backup iPhoto Library, but for now at least, I'm back up and running! -
IPhoto crashes when importing AVI sequences from Digital Photo camera
I am attempting to use my IPhoto 601.
I have a huge collection of Photos and many AVI sequences taken with my Digital camera (Canon G5).
IPhoto crashes when I attempt to import the video sequences.
I am getting frustrated here.
Do you have suggestions?
Should I wait for IPhoto version 10 ?!?!Are you importing them into iPhoto directly from the camera? If so, you might want to use Image Capture, found in your Applications folder, to import them instead. I download to a folder on my desktop called "Holding" and then drag the images and movies I want to keep into iPhoto.

Hi all,
Been using iPhoto for a few months now - no complaints until just recently. Downloaded 40-50 photos from a friend's online Picasa library. Put them all in a folder and tried importing them all into my library. iPhoto crashes immediately. Tried dragging and dropping - same thing. Tried a single photo - same thing. My library has about 2,000 photos and I have 50GB of disk space left, so me no understand what the **** is going on.
Weird - I just tried adding an old photo (that I didn't get off Picasa) and it seemed to work. What's going on?!johnnydrama
Have these photos been edited using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements? This sounds like the bug that exists between the latest version of iPhoto and/or Quicktime and PS and PE.
Below is a workaround/ fix developed by Stuart Chapman
* Please note that I have only tested this fix on my Mac, which is a G5 iMac (ALS) running Mac OS 10.4.8, QuickTime 7.1.3 and iPhoto 6.0.5 *

If, like me, you've experienced numerous iPhoto crashes due to this issue, it's probably worth rebuilding your iPhoto Library, just in case any of the crashes have caused the library database files to become corrupted. To do this, shutdown iPhoto and then restart it again whilst holding down the CMD (⌘) and OPT (⌥) keys. Then select the option to Rebuild the iPhoto Library.
Once Apple issue a proper fix (hopefully an updated version of QuickTime), I will probably revert to my backup iPhoto Library, but for now at least, I'm back up and running!

Does anyone else this error after iPhoto crashes when importing?
I tried searching for answers on Google, Bing, Webcrawler, and even Wolfram but there is no answer for this anywhere on the web. Just got done installing my new hard drive. I made sure to backup EVERYTHING and I even made a zip copy of my iphoto library.
On my initial first launch of iPhoto, I try to import my library and iPhoto crashes after about 3 seconds. In the error report window that comes up, it lists this as the reason why it was terminated:
'[<NSCFDictionary 0x1f0ad190> valueForUndefinedKey:]: this class is not key value coding-compliant for the key 1140.'
Does anyone know if this is a simple code fix or how to solve errors like these? Remember, this is fresh install of OS X on a new SSD hard drive. All of my Adobe apps are running great with no hassles. The only apps that are giving me trouble are iPhoto and Aperture.
Even worse is that now Aperture is stalling every time I try to export a version of a photo that I retouched. I'm thinking it probably has something to do with why iPhoto constantly crashed when importing.

Iphoto crashes when importing or exporting
I try to solve this for a longtime on the is Mac. Nothing works, reinstall of iphoto 08 from backup, disc, creating new library etc. iphoto still crashes when importing or exporting images. edit etc works fine for images already imported. iphoto also crashes when trying to rebuild library with iphoto manager. is always a Data Related issue.
Can you create a new empty library: Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
If so, try and import a few pics to this new Library and see if you can avoid crashes.

Iphoto 6.0.5 crashes when importing photos.
This is very annoying, every time I try to import photos either from CD/DVD, or files stored in the HD iphoto crashes. When I import directly from the camera it is usually ok.
Have anyone seen this problem before?

JoseIt could be the color profile bug. Photos without a color profile cause iPhoto to crash. It began with the iPhoto 6.0.5 and QuickTime 7.1.3 updates and affects only Power PC Macs.
Old Toad has written an Automator app. to embed the sRGB profile to photos, which will stop the crashing. Go to Toad's Cellar http://homepage.mac.com/WebObjects/FileSharing.woa/wa/default?user=toad.hall&tem platefn=FileSharing7.html&xmlfn=TKDocument.7.xml&sitefn=RootSite.xml&aff=consume r&cty=US&lang=en#
and download his "Embed sRGB Profile.zip. Unzip it, select the photos that cause the crash and drop them onto the app. Then see if those photos will import correctly. -
Iphoto crashes when importing pevious systems iphoto pics
I restored my system on the same computer without deleting personal libraries. Now when I try to import my previous Iphoto library Iphoto crashes everytime. Also when I open I photo it say so many pictures have been found do you want to import so I say yes and the same thin happens it will start and then crash.

Take one of the photos that crashes iPhoto and drop it on the Applescript application, Embed sRGB Profile-Applescript, that you can download from Toad's Cellar. If it imports OK then you're faced with files that do not have a color profile embedded. Also make sure you're running iPhoto 6.0.6 and Quicktime 7.1.6.
If that's the case you can drop a folder of photos onto the application and it will embed the profile into all contained files. It takes about 4 seconds per file so can take a while as it's doing its thing. The good news is that the process is lossless, i.e. does not do an additional jpg compression on the file during the process.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. IMovie Crashing when importing photo with Ken Burns Effect
iMovie is crashing all the time when I am trying to import a photo with Ken burns effect using media browser and hitting "apply". Is this a known problem ? If I dont apply Ken Buruns effect then it imports it fine.
I am trying to put Photo at the begining of my project ( and then put title on that photo). If I have any clip in the begining and then try importing photo with ken burn's effect then it is not crashing, but it still does not import it. I click "apply" and it does soemthing , I can see the clip in timeline for a sec and then it disappears. So either way, cant use any photos anywhere with Ken Burn's effect. Whats going on?
I have more than enough space available on my HDD and I do not think there is any conflicting QT plugins I have ( It's all default Install). This is so consistent that it seems like a Bug but can't find this exact case mentioned anywhere in discussions.

I have two guesses here:
o The Ken Burns code of iMovie has a problem with partitions
o The Ken Burns code of iMovie has a problem with access rights
I've never seen a Ken Burns problem with partitions (I've used multiple partitions for years with no problems). I suspect that's not the cause.
But I think you've hit the nail on the head that iMovie may have a problem with permissions/access rights. I don't know exactly what the problem is — or whether it's caused by iMovie or OSX — but there is behavior that suggests something isn't right.
I suspect the issue, whatever it is, causes a failure to save the rendered Ken Burns clip inside the project package. The red bar runs, but the rendered clip isn't saved to disk. My guess is OSX refuses to allow iMovie to save the file for OSX doesn't believe YOU have permission.
One would think that using the Finder to set the permissions of the project package would solve the problem, but it doesn't seem to.
There are two possible solutions:
1. Set the partition to ignore permissions. In the Finder, click on the partition and Get Info. Turn ON the checkbox "Ignore permissions on this volume";
2. Use Disk Utility to reformat (erase) the partition. Somehow that seems to fix the problem.
Here's some history which may suggest another solution: In an earlier version of iMovie a similar problem occurred, where iMovie would refuse to open a project. It had somehow decided you didn't have permission to edit the project.
The only solution was to use the Finder to create a new set of project folders — a folder and all the folders it normally contains — then Option-drag the FILES of the original project folder to the appropriate folders. (Option-dragging COPIED the files instead of moving them.) The new project folder would now open normally.
If you are adept at working with packages, you might try creating your own package (which contains all the normal folders) then Option-drag the files of the problem project to your package.
Once I saw an error -52 announcement, but it was not reproducible.
Error -52 is a "Get file position error", which (may) suggest a disk directory error. That may be a disk issue unrelated to iMovie. You might want to consider using Disk Utility to Verify/Repair that partition.
I have a separate partition for the movies and made a
link from my home account to the directory with the
movies on that partition. iMovie works correctly
except for the Ken Burns photo rendering.
I'm never sure whether creating such a link is a good idea or not, especially for the iLife apps. Some apps don't resolve the alias as they should, which creates other problems. A "Movies" alias sends iDVD a million miles beyond Jupiter, for example, where the iDVD project joins the space dust.
For iMovie projects saved on partitions and external drives, I just save them inside a "iMovie 6 Projects" folder on that drive. (Every new version of iMovie gets a new folder.) For convenience, I may create aliases to help navigate there, but do nothing else. Everything just works.
If you figure out something new, please say.

Backup the library and try the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache files that are located in the User/Library/Application Support/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding the the Option key. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
Fix #2
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select options #1, #2 and #6.

My text has jagged edges after I render in FCP 4.5. This also happens when I import files from After Effects and Live Type. I recently lost all of my sequence and render settings, so my thinking is that it's one of those settings. Any ideas?
